Proper has been on my radar since Papi's and my family and I came here for Mother's day. We had a reservation so we were seated right away. Service was great. It was busy but I thought for sure it would be alot busier because it was Mother's day but service was not impacted. Our server was consistently checking on us to see if we needed anything. The drinks were decently priced and well mixed. I had a blackerry margarita (it was listed on the menu as a pomegranate margarita but they were out of pomegranate syrup so the offered blackberry instead) and it was delicious. The food came quickly after ordering. We ordered crab eggrolls for the table (soooo good!) and I had the lamb chops which came with 2 sides. The lamb chops were disrespectfully good! They were cooked perfectly and tossed in a honey jerk glaze... heavenly! The mac and cheese was great and so were the Brussel sprouts. I tasted my Mother's salmon pasta and that was also good. My cousin offered one of her wings from her chicken and waffles and the chicken was perfectly seasoned and crispy. Everything was a 10/10. I will absolutely be back. read more

The salmon bites were dry; the crab cake egg rolls just tasted like dough, bits of crab, and honey mustard; and the brussel sprouts were so hard they were unpalatable. I liked the lamb chops and red snapper but even then, nothing was seasoned as much as it should have been. Well well well... I thought I was visiting Papi's -- big NOPE! I was in town for a staycation and always down for good eats. This spot has been on my radar for a while, so I figured it was time to see what the hype was about. We were so unsure we even asked our waitress, but after doing our own homework... let me be clear: this is NOT Papi's Cuisine. It's important to share that so you don't get fooled like I did. Now let's get into this food review: Overall, it's a great place -- cool décor, good music, and surprisingly quiet for a Sunday evening (especially with the Ravens playing at home). We had reservations and were seated immediately. To start, we ordered the crabcake egg rolls: 3/5 stars. The wrapper had a strange taste to me, or it was just too heavily breaded. But they did not miss on the crab -- plenty of it. For entrées, we had the braised honey jerk lamb chops with mac & cheese and kale, and the honey-glazed stuffed salmon with the same sides. I'd give both dishes 3.8/5, but those greens... OMG. Super salty. Like salt salt salt. We ended up draining them and taking the rest home. Our server was good -- friendly -- but she could've been a bit more attentive. Now the beverages... whew. Hennessy Island: 4/5 (the boo loved it; too sweet for me). I went with my old faithful, Tito's and cranberry, and after a few sips I had to ask what brand of cranberry juice they were using... because that cranberry juice was HORRIBLE! One of the WORST restaurant experiences I have ever had in my life. They were under prepared on MULTIPLE menu items such as burgers, passion fruit and fish. They didn't have soap in the men's bathroom and when notified the said "well what do you want us to do about it...". Also to add their was hair in one of our dishes and they had the audacity to still put in on the bill... The service was absolutely horrible. The waitress expected us to yell at her across the table to place our orders. She never even ask me what I would like to drink. I ordered my drink minutes later just for them to be out on the passions fruit. In conclusion I will NEVER return to an establishment that can't even provide soap for the bathroom. If guest can wash their hands nether can the staff. In all I will never recommend such a disgraceful restaurant to anyone in the Baltimore area. read more

I had a good time here just needed to grab dinner before the Summer Walker concert. I didn't do much research other than how far it was from our hotel. From the pics it looked like a worthy and luxurious restaurant. The bar is small and they do offer happy hour but we just went straight to dine in, plenty of seating. They were playing good jams. The kitchen is open which I think is a cool feature to see how they operate. This was my first time drinking again, so I got the lemon drop and my date got the dragon fruit or passionfruit margarita. They did not have oxtails or lobster available at the time, I definitely wanted to try their seafood pasta something heavy and light since I was drinking for the night. I ended up with the salmon creamy pasta. It came with bacon, I could have did without it. I also ordered the Brussels sprouts, really good with the sauce and steamed just right. My date got the lamb chops and they were okay. I did not like the mash potatoes at all. I definitely recommend if you are in the area, I'm glad I had a good time. read more

Me and the crew decided to check out the happy hour on a Tuesday. Well, it's almost Christmas so we decided to also do our gift exchange. Upon entering there was no one at the hostess stand. When someone did approach me a young lady hollered from the bar to the left of the stand that other person doesn't speak English and how can she help me. She led me to the table where my friends were. There was only one other table of patrons seated right beside us. The happy hour menu seemed promising. Assumed to be smaller versions of regular menu items. Well, let's start with the good...crab cake eggrolls were tasty, small and just average crab meat. Now the salmon bites..... on the menu they said fried however what we received was skin on filets, chopped up and swimming in syrupy super sweet honey sauce. The wings that my friends got appeared to be decent. But the lambchop, you got one lollipop on a plate with sauce. I think they could add a spoon of rice or maybe mashed potatoes for some substance. I asked for coffee, it is a restaurant right? They serve no hot beverages. Asked for ginger ale they only had ginger beer. Don't get the Hennessy Island my friends said it was straight liquor and not good. I asked for brussel sprouts which were on the menu but they didn't have any. They didn't have espresso martinis which was an immediate issue for my other friend. Oh and they have a bottomless cocktail for $30 on happy hour but you can only get that if you purchase $40 worth of food. The place looks like an old hotel and doesn't give fine dining at all in my opinion. I can at least say I've been but doubt I'll be back unless there is some improvement. read more

While on another overnighter in B'more, we decided to dine at Proper Cuisine before the big party. This place was on my bookmarks when it was "Prim and Proper", but they've re-branded after a short time, realizing strict dining rules would probably hurt business, so no more "Prim" and now no dress code. We still left the sneakers at home and kept it sexy..LOL! Proper Cuisine is small but beautiful. With a museum type feel, you pass the separate bar area before entering the formal dining room. Again, I was a little surprised at the size, so you BETTER make reservations or else! The menu was excellent and the food was even better except the Crab Rice.. They need to go traditional on that and scrap the current recipe! My girl ordered the crab cake and gave it the highest compliment, saying it was just as good as "Jerry's". If you're from PG County, you know that Jerry's is the best crab cake in the world..LOLOL!! My honey jerk lamb chops were delicious. She's not a spicy fan but I am and those things were BOMB!! Proper offers different flavored charbroiled oysters, so we tried an order of both and again, 10 stars! So Proper did not "properly" staff the restaurant (pun intended) the evening we dined. There was only one server the majority of our visit, but he was super friendly and super attentive given the lack of help. I'm not sure what the other folks are complaining about, but this is my kind of place. Just change the crab rice and give me one more server and we're good.. Lol! read more

From Prim and Proper to Proper Cuisine, we ended up here for dinner on a staycation in Baltimore. I talked up Papi Cuisine (the original BMore staple) so my significant other found this place and made it our date night spot. I didn't even know this place existed. We walked into a somewhat empty restaurant. As the night grew, it became filled with women. It was just me and my honey and one other couple. Single men, this might be a place to come! The girls are showing up and showing out. I immediately notice there is just one waiter when we walked in. I must admit he was making it happen until 8ish when the restaurant got too busy! They definitely need more hands on deck. Let's get into it! The restaurant is beautiful. Hidden in a niche of the building you would easily pass if not looking specifically for it. The ambiance is modern class. The food was delicious and enough to make me return and try again. The service though was extremely lacking. Perhaps some people called out but there was one waitress despite others being there. The one waitress was neither attentive or helpful. She was always nice and polite but I came because of a special I received via text and it was never fully explained. Not a fan. Needs better signage out front. It looks like a barely renovated old apartment building. Parking was terrible and there's no valet. We decided to park in the hotel/public parking lot about a block or so away, cost was $26+. Waitress never introduced herself. Half of the menu wasn't available- no chicken breast, no spinach, no lettuce/salad, no snapper, no mashed potatoes, no broccolini. Food was so so. Not good and not bad but def nothing to write home about. Space is very small, don't be fooled by the pictures. And tables are very close to one another. I didn't care for the placement of the kitchen, it's no privacy and very little space in between the tables and food prep. Music was way too loud. Waitress kept messing up the order and they must of had a glitch or something because they kept bringing two of everything to our table. Finally the check came and it's all digital which is fine but they had a couple incorrect items (remember the double food items that kept coming out). The manager must have felt bad for us and offered complimentary desserts and a round of drinks - def appreciated it!!! All in all, no I would not come back. Prim & Proper has ambiance down pat! I felt like it was giving modern speakeasy vibes. Plus, I was super intrigued by the balloon head art. There were a number of these pieces and I would return just to analyze them further. I was with a party of 6, and only 1 out of the party had eaten at this venue before. So of course there were a lot of questions for and interactions with the waiter. I'd say the waiter was made for the job, as he was super charming and put everyone at ease with his knowledge of the food and drinks offered at P&P. He was also very attentive to us throughout the course of the meal. Unfortunately, I was just a stand in for someone at this particular dinner and had eaten beforehand, so I didn't order any appetizers or entrees (though the rest of the group's food looked delish when it arrived). I did order a salad with jumbo lump crab. The presentation was amazing, but I found the salad dressing too sweet, and my first bite of the crab featured 3 pieces of shell, causing me to eat around the crab to finish the salad. I am interested in returning to try some of the apps and entrees others in my group ordered though, I won't let the salad deter me. P&P doesn't split checks, FYI, so make sure to bring cash if you're dining in a group. read more

This is a hard one. I was attracted to Prim & Proper by the name alone (kudos to Marketing), and when I learned that the owner of BLK Swan -- also in Baltimore -- had a hand in this establishment, I was onboard. Prim & Proper isn't bad by any means, but it's a new restaurant attempting to gain footing in a very saturated market in Baltimore. Before my reservation, I sat at the bar where I had a Dirty Martini. After I finished my drink, I was taken to the main dining room. Prim & Proper's decor is very nice -- it lives up to its name. If I had to change anything, it would be the seating arrangement. I thought there were too many seats; it felt a bit cramped. Food & Drinks: Well, both were just okay. I tried the deviled eggs adorned with caviar and fried oysters, lobster ravioli, and their jerk chicken. The deviled eggs were good -- hard to mess that up. The lobster ravioli was a dud. The filling was not good. Where was the lobster at exactly? The ravioli itself was a little hard. Severely underwhelming. The jerk chicken was ok and pricey! Dirty Martini - I have never been served a dirty martini with unpitted olives. Enter Prim & Proper. Definitely not a good idea. It isn't the most pleasant experience to remove olive pits from your mouth while you're trying to dine, to be prim and proper (pun intended), and converse. Ditch the olives with pits! This month I intentionally chose to circulate the black dollar and support black businesses. This particular restaurant caught my attention. The excitement was real when I initially heard of the collaboration between two very known restaurant owners. Papi cuisine and Blk swan!! Of course I was Under the assumption it's going to be a hit! Welp!!! 2/5 The ambience is absolutely stunning and very beautifully done. The waiters were well dressed and definitely fit the prim & proper aesthetic. The piano in the walkway was a very nice touch. Stunning portraits of very popular late African American musicians and artists such as Tupac, DMX and ODB etc. Complete Random thought: For all my NY natives DMX was born in Baltimore!! My party of Four was seated right away. As soon as we sat down the waiter explained all the food items that were sold out. Welp**. This particular waiter forgot to bring food items, very unorganized and didn't check on us as often as he should've. My party ordered the following: -jumbo shrimp and black rice (Jumbo where? the shrimp was served on a mountain of undercooked rice with mushy medium sized shrimp) I'm assuming perhaps the kitchen ran out of the jumbo pawns? -lobster ravioli- My party enjoyed this appetizer -crab croquettes (stop! Just stop all filler) this appetizer reminded me of hush puppies. -Tomahawk steak served with broccolini and au gratin potatoes. The server gave my broccolini to the other couple in my party. Unfortunately I can't rate this. -rib eye (very flavorful) The cocktails require extreme improvement. Very weak! No sweet options for women such as myself who prefer a sweet cocktail. According to the waiter sweet cocktails is something they don't offer. Ultimately I left extremely disappointed. I don't see myself returning to this restaurant. I called Prim & Proper to inquire if they could print personalized menus, and was told they could not not. I was hoping to have commemorative menus for my birthday dinner. Upon arrival, I used the valet parking ($15). You're met with a beautiful piano in the grand foyer. As you approach the reception desk, there's a bar to the left, and the main dining area to the right. The bar was busy, but the main dining area wasn't crowded. Upon request, we were allowed to dine in the private dining room that seats twelve people, even though we were a party of two. They were very accommodating. AESTHETICS: 5/5 Aesthetically, it is a beautiful space decorated with French bistro tiles. The servers were clad in striking yellow/mustard hued jackets. The artwork on the walls were interesting; lots of floating heads. The tables in the main dining room were situated very close together. Note: On the website, there is a dress code specified. However, I noticed two tables with athletic wear (i.e., hoodies and sneakers). SERVICE: 4.5/5 It took a while to put our order in. Upon inquiry, we learned there were only two servers working. We had Forest as our server. He was animated and cheerful. He was also thoughtful in ways that provided an elevated experience. When my friend stepped away to use the restroom, he nicely folded her napkin. He also brought two complimentary glasses of champagne for my birthday toast. He's a gem. THE FOOD: 4.5/5 We ordered a lot of food! First thing, they do not serve ANY bread (Hint! Hint!). That was a shocker. For appetizers we ordered two of the crab croquettes and the deviled eggs. The crab croquettes were so delicious, we ordered a second one. The deviled eggs were okay. I wouldn't reorder them, but they're worth trying. For the entrees, we had the lamb, and braised oxtails served with a side of sweet potato puree. It was quite tasty. It didn't have the gamey taste lamb often carries. The oxtails were huge! Three large, fall of the bones, perfectly seasoned oxtails. The accompanied bean paste was a bit salty and there was too much sauce/gravy since there was no starch with the entree. Perhaps consider offering a side of coconut basmati rice to sop up the sauce (Hint! Hint!) We shared the bread pudding for dessert. The portions were sizable. Everything seems to be a la carte. THE DRINKS: 3/5 I initially ordered the French Martini and didn't like it. It tasted medicinal. My friend didn't like her drink either and sent hers back. We both subsequently ordered the Lemon Drop and it was perfectly crafted. The specialty cocktails on the menu need tweaking to find the right balance of palette pleasing flavors. VERDICT: The food was excellent, the drinks needed improvement, and the service was great once we got started. I would return, but with tempered expectations as they workout operational challenges. Prim and Proper is now Proper Cuisine! I went with my gal pals. We appreciate the valet parking! It was complimentary and the best part for me. It took almost 2 hours to get here due to traffic. When we enter, the host was very nice! He was also our waiter. Upon entrance it was pretty empty. We were told to scan the QR code to look at the menu. However, it wasn't working. If you have a T-mobile phone you are fine but all other carriers don't work in the restaurant. You have to go to the door to bring it up or save the menu on your phone prior to going. We finally choose foods to order. I had the strawberry lemonade, garlic butter shrimp toast and the crab balls. The crab balls were pretty good. There were some shells and cartilage. The shrimp toast was a no for me. It had an interesting flavor that I couldn't quite place. It was a sliced, toasted baguette. I imagined buttered or olive oil base on the bread with garlic and salt. Then, add the sauce and shrimp to the side. Anyway, I then ordered the Branzino with crab fried rice and asparagus. The Branzino was baked nicely (no bones) with a sauce that had onions, peppers and carrots. The crab fried rice was not good. It was like wild rice turned black with crab in it. I would have liked a fluffier, flavorful crab fried rice. Friend 1: Branzino with crab fried rice and broccolini- Did not enjoy the rice or broccolini but liked the Branzino. Friend 2: Lamb chops with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach-- lamb chops were good, the mashed potatoes had no taste and the creamed spinach was spinach with little glob of melted cheese on top. Did not enjoy. The drinks were good, my friends loved the flavored lemon drops. I think the best one was the peach lemon drop. The space is pretty nice. There is a piano and chandelier set up outside the restaurant. The music was really good. The individual chairs throughout the restaurant are too small. The choice of silverware was cute. There was no bottled water as an option. The menu is small with focused items. I will not be back but try it out and let me know! read more

I went here for happy hour. It's located on an easy street (easy to find parking during the week). I got the sliders with no bun and the kale salad. The salad was delicious and the burgers were freshly made, no filler... pretty good to me. The place has very beautiful decor... I loved the exquisite art and old luxury concept. The service from everyone but the bartender was excellent. Isn't that a bit odd? The valet, the hosts, the staff... everyone but the man serving us at the bar! He was short with us, offered little to no input or help with making decisions, was inattentive, and almost attitudinal if we asked for modifications to drinks. Unfortunately, stuff like that can really, negatively impact your experience and desire to return. Tbh, I would return just to look at the beautiful artwork and to sit in the presence of such beautiful pieces. So, fortunately, his lackluster service didn't sway me, but it could and has with other venues. I'll be back! read more

Newly opened black-owned restaurant. In their third week. Beautiful decor inside and out. Very bright, lots of artwork and charming. The servers all wear a uniform: dark trousers and a yellow jacket. Nice touch. The dining room was a bit too crowded for my liking. Too many tables. I would've preferred a little more space in between. I wasn't a fan of the hard chairs and very bright lighting in the dining area. Wouldn't be a restaurant I would recommend for intimate dining with your person or group. Service was very prompt. I felt a little rushed, but the servers seemed very happy and well versed on the menu. It may been a nice touch for the server to welcome me to their new restaurant. Menu. Very nice menu format. However, the menu was way too large compared to the size of the table. The drink menu was separate, but my recommendation would've been to have the food and drink menu together since the drink menu is not that extensive. Food. I must say for a new restaurant in this area, it was grossly overpriced at each category within the menu. My jerk chicken dish was over $40! It was full of good flavours, and accompanied by 3-4 small crepes that they recommended you fold over the chicken. Very similar to what other cultures do with roti or naan bread. I've had better jerk chicken just minutes away in the area for a lot less! However, it's not fair to compare and contrast pricing because the overall experience has to be factored in. And with that in mind, I conclude that the food pricing for the main dishes were $10-$20 overpriced. Drinks. Nice cocktail menu. Nice options. I ordered the Henny espresso martini. It was okay at best. Too much cream on top compared to the amount of liqueur, and did not fill the glass. I also ordered their version on a Moscow Mule (made with Mezcal tequila). This was made very well and tasted lovely. Dessert. No dessert menu. The server rattled off about 4-5 items. None of which were appealing, probably because he spoke too fast with no passion or conviction. Missed opportunity here to sell the desserts. No mention of after dinner drinks to round off. The check was paid electronically through a QR code. I would've preferred not to do this. It took away the personal service element. A 20% "service charge" was automatically added to the check. It would've been appropriate to let me know. I often feel service or tip fees have to be earned. When it is added up front, I question the desire they have to do a great job. I conclude to say, Prim and Proper is a beautiful restaurant, aesthetically. They are very new, and I'm sure they are still working through kinks, etc. I will give them that. The staff were all very nice. They offer valet parking, which is a nice touch, but there's plenty parking close by also. The food was just okay in my experience. Nothing to be impressed by, however, the presentation was very good. Food pricing was way too high on all levels and circumstances, as noted. I'm not sure if I would come back anytime soon, but I felt good knowing I was supporting a black-owned restaurant. I will always support my people. I am a little concerned that Prim and Proper may not be able to sustain a healthy and vibrant business long term based on my experience. I want the best for them moving forward. Prim & Proper is a collab of two black-owned restaurants I've enjoyed- Black Swan and Papi Cuisine. The Black Swan influence was felt (similar ambiance) but on a more elegant scale. From the accent and chandelier lighting, to the heavy gold tableware and the beautiful amber color waitstaff jackets, the touches of luxury adorned the intimate restaurant. Our waiters were personable and attentive. The dishes were portioned appropriately and plated beautifully. My husband ordered the oxtail and said it was amazing!! We opted for the lobster ravioli and braised pork belly apps, New York strip and oxtail for our meal with creamed spinach and duck fat fries (yum!) and creme brûlée for dessert. The strip was cooked to my preferred medium doneness but could have used more seasoning. The duck fat fries stole the show. The creme brûlée was just ok. The spinach was over salted. My husband enjoyed an smoky old fashioned (the proper) and a henny espresso martini. We were able to sit back and chat with our friends for over 3 hours without being rushed which is a rarity. The seating was tight. That's probably my only complaint. Overall, it was an enjoyable evening. I'm not sure I would return for dinner but definitely for happy hour. read more

After seeing beautiful pictures online of Prim and Proper's soft opening I couldn't wait to try it. My friends made a Friday night reservation on the second night this place was open. Risky, but I was free. Our agreed opinion "was nothing was bad". That sounds worse than it is. The second night a restaurant is open is tough. You often leave thinking you will come back when they work out the kinks. But Prim and Proper was doing pretty good night two. The only thing was they were out of a few items and I had the bad luck of ordering 3 of them. We had 6:45 reservation and we're taken care of very well by all the staff. The host was great and even took an IG worthy picture of us as we left. Service was good and everyone was very attentive. A singer was setting up as we were leaving. I would have loved to stay to hear but we needed to let other people eat. Now for food and drink. I love old fashioneds and get them wherever I go. Prim and Proper had 4 on the cocktail menu. Sadly my first two picks weren't available, but my honey old fashioned was pretty great. For appetizers we had deviled eggs, lobster ravioli and foie gras. I have no review for the eggs. We are the foie gras before the camera could but it was good. The lobster ravioli has a wonderful sauce and was really stuffed with lobster. The ravioli was a little thick, but Day 2. Our entries are pictured below and were all good. My friend had the shrimp dish and I had a bite. I can see myself getting that next time I come. We passed on dessert and it was good to see the place filling up. read more

I really enjoyed the intimate and classy decor.. The piano was a nice touch and the tea cups and tea kettles at the counter were really pretty. I loveddd the chandeliers. The music vibes were a nice touch. Our waiter Rashad was very attentive and quick. We had the deviled eggs which I thought were really tasty but a little salty for my liking ( the caviar one was my fav ) we had the salmon bites which were delicious! And the wings were cooked to perfection. We ordered mac & cheese, sweet chili salmon, honey jerk lamblamb chops, oxtail and jerk chicken pasta -the portion sizes were really great. The reviews aren't valid, I took a leap of faith. The restaurant is intimate and gorgeous. It's not an overwhelming scenery and the hostess is absolutely amazing. My hostess and waiter was Rashad, he was attentive and had great recommendations. I went for a solo birthday dinner, I was seated immediately and food came out within 7 min. I ordered the Snapper with seafood fried rice and cream of spinach. It was absolutely amazing. I asked Rashad for something spicy but not overwhelming for the snapper and he delivered. Went here midweek on a Wednesday to celebrate a friends birthday. While waiting for the birthday girl to arrive, I partook in the Happy Hour specials and ordered the Pineapple Express with some truffle fries. The fries were just regular...straight cut, supposed to have truffle oil season but I wasn't visible and I barely tasted it. The drink was lovely though' made well, sufficient amount of alcohol. For dinner I ordered the Fried Lobster Tail and wanted the broccolini, my Bestie ordered the Jerk Chicken Pasta and she too wanted the broccolini. They were out of the broccolini and we were bummed as we both really wanted to try that. According to the Bestie, her pasta was flavorful, she added on the crab fried rice and when it came out it was PURPLE. We were thinking brown rice but our waiter corrected us and said no, it's really purple rice. I tried it and it didn't give what I was hoping it gave, slightly mushy but no real flavor. My lobster tail seasoning was a tad bit spicy and I added on mac & cheese when told about the unavailable broccolini. I'm not a fan of overly oily mac & cheese, presentation was decent but the oil was very pervasive. I also wanted them to bring out a piece of cake for her birthday but they did not have any cake to offer. Out of the 5 menus offered via QR code they're actually was not a dessert menu offered... Love the decor, interesting art pieces by an artist named Balloon Kid (I was told). To start off the music was super loud. The food wasn't what I expected. I ordered gumbo and it did not have all the ingredients that were specified with the plate. More like chicken and rice. Stop right now! Don't waste your money! I went to a birthday dinner with eight people, and no one was satisfied with their food. The drinks were also awful. The macaroni and cheese was very watery, the spinach was not cooked, the salmon was very dry, the deviled eggs were very salty, the rice for the oxtail was very mushy, the oysters taste expired, lamb chops were so spicy no one was able to eat them, their nose literally began to run due to the spice. I love supporting black businesses However, I am going to give this restaurant a two out of 10. The two points is only for the ambience because that is beautiful. Also, they do not offer valet parking and it was very hard to find the building. Sidenote, they also have a rule. If you do not like your food, you cannot send it back, which is ridiculous to me because the goal at a restaurant is to make sure your customers are satisfied so they can return. My experience here was soso, the food was good for the most part. It was decent, but nothing was the best I ever had, which is what I'd expect at those prices. The drinks are really good, and I did like the service from the bar tender specifically, he was so nice. They make absolutely no modifications, like not even a sugar rim. Also don't split checks, and parking is not easy in that area. It's $15 to valet. I'd potentially go back if someone really wanted to, but it wouldn't be my first choice. We went here for a pre- Mothers Day dinner. It was nice. We were late for our reservation but they were able to seat us anyway. We ordered drinks and the ceviche. I have never had ceviche before but clearly I've been missing out. It was delicious. The drinks were good too. I ordered the bronzino and my friend ordered the oxtails. Both dishes were very tasty. My friend said the oxtails were the best he's tasted in a long time. The lobster mac and cheese was so good. And we ordered the bread pudding, as well as the peach cobbler. Both could've been better with a side of ice cream but the bread pudding was so damn good. The service was decent but at times a little slow. While it was a nice dining experience, I wouldn't consider this an upscale restaurant. Their menu is a la carte which I don't really think it should be but all was well. And you do have to pay for valet which is $15 which is needed since there really isn't parking in that area. But if you're looking for a nice place to enjoy a good meal I would recommend this as an option. read more

I've enjoyed BLK Swan and I've also enjoyed Papis Cuisine. So when I heard the two were joining forces to give us Prim & Proper I had to be there. I made reservations for two for a Saturday evening. We ended up with 9 o'clock slot because the slots were going as I tried to make the reservation. Upon arrival, there is a valet available. We had to wait a few mins because he was getting another customers car. There was no signage about price but there is a $15 charge for valet. When you walk in there is beautiful artwork hanging all around, an elegant chandelier and a piano for a nice photo op. We checked in with the host and was seated promptly. Rashad was our server and he was phenomenal. He filled us in on the menu, gave us time to make our selections and checked on us periodically. Live music was featured, with a singer performing. The seating was very similar to BLK Swan. You're really close to the next table. Now on to the food. For appetizers we went with snapper ceviche and deviled eggs. The ceviche was too citrusy and the deviled eggs were just right. For my entree I went with the Jumbo shrimp with crab fried black rice. I did not enjoy my entree at all. The rice was not cooked well and the way they do the shrimp you get 2 or 3 pieces. They add shrimp tails to it that make it appear like more. Aesthetically the dish is winning but actually digging in to it I've had way better. My friend had ordered the fried chicken with hot honey and I was able to taste it. There's room for improvement with that dish too. The star of the show for me was the cocktails. I usually don't drink because I never like the taste. But they are on to something with the UN DEUX TROIS cocktail. It was so tasty I had two. Then for dessert we had the Cremé brûlée. It was okay. Some fresh fruit would have really elevated the dessert. When everything was said and done we paid $278 for two entrees, two appetizers, four drinks and a dessert. That price also includes automatic gratuity of 20%. My friend sent one of her drinks back because she didn't like it and we were still charged for it. For the money that was spent I wanted to love my food and that wasn't the case. I'm hoping with some menu revising and time things will be better. I'll probably wait a year before dining in again but I'm not opposed to the bar for that cocktail I had. read more

Hats off to Prim & Proper! All I'll say is Black Excellence!!!! That's the vibe given from the ambiance, the service, and the food. Started off at the bar. They have a wide selection of specialty cocktails and wine. I often worry about specialty cocktails, because they tend not to be as special as they claim. These drinks were what I'd call specialty. Watching the bartender, you can see the attention to detail with all ingredients and the overall composition of the drink. My go-to for the night was the Champagne Side Car. Our bartender was extremely friendly and appeared to be holding down the bar all by himself that night. He didn't miss a beat. Our group moved into the dining room which is absolutely stunning. Beautifully decorated with amazing art work. Our server was at our table within minutes grabbing orders. We started off with the Snapper Ceviche and the Lobster Ravioli. Both were a win. If you're contemplating the Ceviche, think no more. It's delish!!! Couldn't stop eating it. As for the entrees, our table ordered the Branzino, Jumbo Shrimp, Jerk Chicken, and the Prim and Proper Burger. Once again, everything was amazing. I ordered the Jerk chicken which was fire. Felt like I was eating jerk chicken off the grill in Jamaica. I was intrigued when the waiter explained how it's meant to be eaten. It's an experience. Make sure to place the meat in the crepe, add one of the Fresno peppers and a piece of the mint, then dip it in the jerk sauce. It's a must. I was blown away by the flavor explosion of this combination. Well done chef!!! We ended the night engaging in conversation with the Chef while enjoying our Espresso Martinis. The Chef's vision and creative food concepts were very exciting to hear. I'm looking forward to future dining experiences at Prim & Proper!! read more

I came before and wanted to come back to give this restaurant another chance as the management and organization behind my last experience was good despite my first experience.. Ambiance as always - beautiful. Great for pictures and content. The service was great! Food came out in a timely manner. The salad.. 10/10. We also had a caesar salad, mac & cheese, lobster ravioli, and more but as you can see we ate it too quickly to take pictures. I will say it was super empty when I went but I have high hopes that even with a full house I will have the same better experience next time as I had this time I went! We went for my wife's birthday last Sunday. She was so excited to dress up and experience the new restaurant. Like majority of the posts stated, the ambiance was breathtaking; however that's where it stopped. Tabling- As an upscale restaurant, there's no way I should be using ONE fork for my salad and main dish. You should be seated with the full spread of utensils Food- My wife got the duck and I got the pasta dish... Underwhelming to say the least, noodles were hard and duck was too salty. We left disappointed and won't be returning; we spent well over $200 to leave dissatisfied and wanting a good meal. read more

Ok, so I wanted to try this restaurant out since it has been opened. The food was great. I had the oxtails which fell off the bone. Omg it was so good. My date had the Bronzino with capers and was excellent seasoned very well. The service was excellent. Our waiter, Forrest gave us complimentary champagne for our date night and service was excellent. All the waiting staff were wearing gold jackets and black pants. The ambiance was nice. They had some nice artwork and a who's who in black excellence photographs in the bar. We got a chance to meet one of the owners and compliment him on how much we appreciate the great atmosphere and dining. They also have valet parking for $15 tip not included.
