After a long weekend of hosting and attending CIAA events, a group of us decided to try Creole Soul Kitchen and Bar, a Black-owned restaurant, and it did not disappoint. The space is small but cozy, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We were greeted by a friendly hostess, and one of the owners even stopped by to help serve and check on us. Our waitress, T, was very kind and attentive. We started with cocktails and shared appetizers including the fried green tomatoes, lemon pepper Bayou wings, Brussels sprouts, and shrimp and crab dip--everything was delicious and well-plated. For entrées, our table had the spicy chicken voodoo pasta with shrimp, Mamie's shrimp and grits, CSR's chicken and sweet potato waffle, seafood mac & cheese, and I had the ultimate seafood gumbo. Every dish was flavorful and satisfying. The owners were welcoming and took time to share the story behind the restaurant, which made the experience even better. I recently visited Creole Soul Kitchen and Bar and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. I ordered the blackened catfish over rice, and when I began eating, I noticed the fish was undercooked and partially raw in the center. This is extremely concerning from both a quality and food safety standpoint. I understand mistakes can happen in a busy kitchen, but serving raw fish when it is supposed to be fully cooked is unacceptable and could potentially make someone seriously ill. I hope management takes food preparation and temperature checks more seriously moving forward because no customer should have to worry about food safety while dining out. The atmosphere was nice, but the food experience definitely needs improvement. read more

My work team booked Creole Soul Kitchen & Bar to celebrate my birthday and another coworker's sobriety anniversary. The food was highly recommended by another employee. I was excited and studied the menu all week because I like to anticipate my meal and everything looked so good. We had some issues at work and two employees tried to call to change the time or cancel the reservation 48 hours before the date, but said they weren't able to complete this action due to not being able to get anyone at the location on the phone to confirm the change. We decided to still go and celebrate! Two of the members of the group arrived at the time of the reservation and the other members each came separately until the full party was there. We were informed that 85% of the party must be present before seating and since we weren't the $40 credit (reservation fee) toward the bill would be forfeited. It was lunch time, so we no one was there but our group. I understand the policy and the team was willing to eat the credit in order to have the lunch after inquiring if it could be waived. The problem is the level of customer service going back and forth with the hostess, bartender and then the manager that I witnessed. Once the policy was explained, there does not need to be a long conversation. By this time I was hangry! We decided to go to another restaurant. When paying for a meal, I want to be welcomed, not feel stressed. If I was the manager, I would not let a group of this size walk out of my restaurant. Not going to lie I was a bit disappointed in this restaurant. The service was great our server was super attentive and helpful. What turned us off was they have a bar with no alcohol, the food was either under cooked or no real flavor, and there wasn't that many items on the menu. I understand they are new but I feel like first impressions mean everything. The restaurant was cute place and I liked the decor. read more

For appetizers we order, fried green tomatoes topped with shrimp and Brussels Sprouts with candied sweet potatoes and maple syrupand Bayou Wings. We had the Ultimate Seafood Gumbo and the Seafood Mac's and Cheese. Both terrific dishes. We had a chance to speak with the Chef and wish her a Happy Mothers Day. My niece took me here for lunch and it was amazing!! First of all our server was fantastic! She gave us some great recommendations, was very welcoming, and checked on us often. Everything we tried was an excellent choice! The crispy maple sweet potatoes and brussel sprouts are absolutely delicious!! We also had the Maryland Shrimp and Crab dip which was also a hit. I got the chicken and sweet potato waffles and my niece got the spicy chicken voodoo pasta as our entrees. The space is nice and clean and there is a laid back vibe. The only downside for me is it is street parking and you have to pay to park. However, I can't wait to return to try other menu items. It is a hidden gem:) read more

I visited this restaurant last night and was extremely disappointed. The food was so bad it wasn't even worth taking pictures. I ordered the seafood gumbo and didn't see a single piece of okra. The chicken in it tasted old, and the rice was hard and dry. The dirty rice had an unpleasant aftertaste that completely overpowered the dish. Rather than complain, we paid and gave the food to a homeless person, but the quality was unacceptable. The kitchen seriously needs improvement--possibly a new chef. Unfortunately, the atmosphere didn't help either. The overall vibe felt ghetto with patrons eating sunflower seeds at the bar and others playing cards at their table. Along with the bar tender handling drinks, and money with these extremely long nails. Seating was also very tight and uncomfortable. Overall, this was a very poor dining experience, and I wouldn't recommend it. read more

The portions were shocking because it is hard to find dine-in restaurants these days that serve full-size hearty portions of the food for the prices charged. This spot, gives you quite a bit more than enough. Entree items were very well seasoned, not over salted, nothing was bland, plate staging was nice, the wait staff very very pleasant and attentive. truly the worst service I've ever experienced. when i walked in I wasn't greeted, a server hollered from across the restaurant then proceeded to set me at a table with a broken chair. got a water than was never refilled the hour and a half I was there. i was 1 of 2 tables there, ordered 2 appetizers that took 30 minutes to come out. I ordered the shrimp and crab dip, it came out with 75% of the dip being cheese melted on top. for the price that's ridiculous. an hour after our food came out the server still hadn't come to check on us. after making several attempts to get any server's attention I finally walked up to the bar to pay. 1/10 experience. read more
