Dr. Ellis is the best. I started seeing her when I lived in San Francisco and did not even have a car. I would take BART and a bus just to see her because she was my one skincare splurge of the year. That should say everything. Now I live in Oakland and it is a much easier 30 minute drive, and she is still the only person I trust with my skin and injections. She is incredibly safety first, extremely thoughtful, and always takes time to educate me so I understand exactly what we are doing and why. I never feel oversold or pushed into anything. Dr. Potozkin has performed MOH's surgeries on two places for me. Both times he achieved safe margins--and both times with great artistry! For example, a year after the second surgery, he has fully restored the surface and symmetry in a difficult, curved area. He is a great choice for other reasons. As someone who does not like to use oral medicine, she offered topical treatments that yielded great results. I had my initial cosmetic dermatology consultation with Dr. Ellis which was booked more than 6 months in advance due to how busy their clinic is. I was so looking forward to this appointment since I use Dr. Ellis's Prequel skincare line and watch her YouTube videos. I thought the appointment itself was good, and I left the visit with a 3 month treatment plan. It went downhill from there. After I left, I realized I didn't have a follow-up appointment scheduled so I called the office to ask about this. I received a message on the patient portal in response stating that if my skin condition didn't improve, I should see Dr. Wall instead since I am Asian and Dr. Wall, also an Asian woman, is the clinic's "Asian skin specialist." In order to see her though, I would have to pay another $250 new patient consultation fee. I was not given an option to follow-up with Dr. Ellis. It felt like - sorry, you're not white, so you can see someone else. During my initial appointment, I was advised to consider the Clear and Brilliant or PicoWay laser treatment. I went ahead and tried to book this, knowing that the consultation fee that I already paid could be applied to the cost of the treatment. I called to schedule the Clear and Brilliant (they were booked out the next 4 months) and received an appointment confirmation through the patient portal which indicated a provider who I was not familiar with. It turns out this was the nurse who works with Dr. Ellis. I expressed reservations about a laser treatment with a nurse who I have never met, who is not even listed on their website under staff member, and who was initially touted by the front desk staff as having "many years of experience" which upon further clarification ended up being "maybe 2 years." I requested laser treatment by a dermatologist, after all, I thought that was the whole point for going to a dermatology clinic as opposed to any other medispa. Also, $650 for a single treatment is not a small amount of money. I was told that the dermatologists don't perform such a "basic" laser treatment and they didn't think it would matter anyway since it probably wouldn't do me much good (or harm). When I asked for the other laser treatment that had been recommended to me, PicoWay, I was told that it's no longer recommended. By the way, the PicoWay is performed by the dermatologists and the price I was quoted was actually cheaper for the PicoWay compared to the Clear and Brilliant. Apparently, Dr. Wall is able to do all of the laser treatments, but since I did not see her for my initial consultation, I could not request her to do my laser treatments unless I pay another $250 consultation fee for a "second opinion." Had I known that the dermatologist I would be seeing would not actually be the one doing the treatment, I probably wouldn't haven't booked the initial consultation with her or this clinic. This was not transparent at all during the booking process. When I mentioned this to the front desk staff, they basically said, too bad. In retrospect, I remember the process of getting an initial consultation was quite a hassle since they don't respond to your email/website request for an appointment and when you call, there's no information given except the date of the next available appointment with X, Y or Z person. I ended up canceling any treatments after this whole ordeal. I was surprised by the lack of transparency from the front desk staff, the breakdown of communication between the staff and clinicians which is then relayed as misinformation to patients, and the seeming unwillingness to follow-up with patient treatment plans or turfing patients to another provider. Overall, my first time seeing a dermatologist was quite disappointing, but now I know better. read more

I have called Dr. Potozkin' office a week ago and scheduled an appointment with Dr. Potozkin for a medical condition on may skin... assuming I will see a medical doctor / dermatologist. When I visited the office hoping to see Dr. himself another doctor examined me. Assuming this would be another dermatologist, I didn't complaint. However after the visit I reviewed the bio of the person who examined me ... feeling something is not right... I was shocked... rather than a dermatologist they handed me over a nurse practitioner who studied Art ... what a bad surprise.... I wanted to see a dermatologist and scheduled the appointment as such.. but that didn't happen..... when I called their office asking for an explanation they were very very rude as patient I cannot trust them anymore !!! read more

He was the doctor who was able to figure out that I had skin psoriasis and knew how to treat it, and tell me how to care of it. Now, he is offering skin care. I feel confident to go to him and know that I am being well taken care of at his office. His staff is very efficient and they seem to run on time. I appreciate a medical office that runs on time. 2 - I had a scheduled 6 mons Ultheraphy appt and did not meet with Juli. I was told she was running late and therefore met with assistant nurse. I was not happy to meet with her as she was very vague in discussing my results. I said if Juli was 15 mins late, I would wait but the nurse could not give me a definitive answer. I was very disappointed and asked the nurse to have Juli call me to go over my results and yet still waiting for a call. My appt was on Thur 9/5/2024 at 9am and still waiting. It's funny - I rec'd a reminder text indicating no makeup to ensure an ACCURATE evaluation AND that if you missed or cancel after 24h I would be charged a $95 fee. read more

I have to agree with M.T.'s review - Dr. Potozkin was condescending, rude and dismissive. And he was so rushed. It was incredible how quickly he entered and exited the room, literally in mid-sentence. This is a very busy office. He appears to allocate about 1-4 minutes for each procedure, so if you have questions or need something done that requires some care, I would look elsewhere. Dr. Potozkin is not the type of doctor that patiently answers questions. He was so rushed in doing my procedure (left the room 2x during) that he failed to fully address the issue, and I had to come back when I got home and noticed. Just 5 seconds looking in the mirror before a bandage was applied and I could have pointed out that he forgot to finish. I was booked 3 weeks out for a followup to fix his mistake.
