We were going to a concert at The Green Guitar folk series just across the railroad tracks and Ubered here to have some pre-show drinks. The place was fairly crowded and noisy at 6pm on a Saturday. The drinks were priced well and our waitress was awesome. We ordered a side of fries to get some food in our belly and we certainly won't make that mistake again - processed mashed potatoes formed into fat spiral shapes are not French Fries!!! My only complaint. After the concert we crossed back over the tracks and paid $5 cover charge for more drinks and to listen to Dating Sarah - fantastic cover band that had the place rocking at 10pm. We stayed for 2 sets and had a great time. I really liked the old school dive bar vibe in an old building that seemed out of place for Johnson County's upper middle class suburban aesthetic. A repeat return for all my future Green Guitar events and maybe some pizza next time - and for the love of god Jerry, get a new french fry distributor. read more

This is one of my favorite places in KC. It's been around forever and one of the best music venues around. The jam night (Wednesdays, I think) are the best! It's a great place to bring people from out of town to truly get a taste of local KC. This is certainly not a chain restaurant. Jerry's Bait Shop is an awesome hole-in-the-wall tucked away in a quiet area of Lenexa. While it may be tiny, it really packs a punch. Each time I've been there, I've had more fun than the last. The live music is fantastic and no one is shy to get on the dance floor. People are friendly and it is easy to mingle. And the place draws a reliably good crowd - by 9 PM, the place is hopping. The drink prices are exactly what you'd want them to be, and they have a limited food menu that primarily consists of pizza and calzones. I highly recommend "The Bones" - for $9.99, you get a huge plate of what are essentially "stuffed crusts" - yummy dough around mozzarella cheese. It is delicious. Jerry's Bait Shop is a quintessential neighborhood bar that is all about having a good time. Live music ties everything together. Wednesday is jam night. Thursday is country jam night. Fridays and Saturdays are all about the area's best cover bands. The venue touts a lunch buffet from 11:30am to 2pm Monday through Friday. It's a good option if you're in the area. If you're not dining during lunch then the menu features pizzas among a bar food focused menu. (Small note: I was in around 7:45pm and was told the kitchen was closed. So, maybe there's something I'm missing. I mean, my fellow Elite Yelpers all seem to love this place, and I respect their opinion. However, during a recent visit for lunch last Friday, I found myself struggling to give Jerry's even 2 stars. The joint has a certain dive bar charm, situated right on the strip in Old Town Lenexa, with a menu that offers the typical bar food fare and then some. The pizza buffet seemed to be pretty popular, but with several large groups of particularly hungry looking dudes ahead of us, we knew pizza wouldn't be in our immediate future as they were already struggling to keep it stocked. So, let's talk about the service. The bartender, who was also working the floor, was friendly and doing her best to keep things flowing, but she just couldn't keep up with the groups of 6 and more that kept showing up ready to eat. Soon, there was a good size crowd, making her swamped and overwhelmed. Understanding she was in over her head, we tried to order simple - the BLT and Hot Italian Beef sandwich, but those proved to be too much, taking almost forty minutes to arrive. Refills on our drinks? Yeah, never happened. So, what about the food? The BLT was nothing special and came with a side of instant regret. I know that seems harsh, BLTs aren't that hard to mess up, but Jerry found a way. Billed as "a house favorite, triple decker sandwich on Texas Toast, piled with bacon, lettuce, tomato and cheddar cheese," it didn't seem like I could go wrong with this pick. I'll just say it was a little underwhelming, with just four pieces of bacon and one piece of lettuce between each slice of bread. They did good on the tomato slices, so there's that, but it wasn't enough. Don't even get me started about the unmelted shredded cheese thrown on top like it was some sort of distant Taco Tuesday cousin. If bar BLTs are your thing, check out Maloney's or The Peanut who both seem to consistently get it right! The Hot Italian Beef was more like a lukewarm, over cooked roast beef sandwich. It wasn't even picture worthy. I'm not trying to be mean, but you can visit Arby's and get their French Dip sandwich, which is cheaper and tastier. I don't mind waiting for my food, especially in good company, but the longer I wait, the better I expect the food to be. I may not get the appeal of Jerry's, but one thing I do know for sure, I won't be missing it anytime soon! read more

1st timers here and not knowing what to expect with a name like Jerry's bait shop for a bar/restaurant! What we found was a friendly place with customers having a good time eating and drinking. Nothing fancy here, more like a fun dive! Loved the original old building with great original wood floors and the sounds and feel of the train that went right by a couple of times!! We had the thin crust pizza, The Kahuna, and it was delicious! Lots of toppings with just the right amount of sauce and cheese so as not to take away from all those flavors. To make it even better, the pizzas were half price! We had good service, good food and a good time. Cramped inside, but that's to be expected with a live band there and it actually didnt drive me insane like most places would. After some day drinking and an evening BBQ, I got my Jerry's Bait Shop cherry popped when some friends headed out for a night of boozing and dancing. This place is in a cool little section of Lenexa, right by some train tracks. The setup is simple, a long bar, some seating, and a small stage area. They have a large open air back alley that you don't see much of anymore outside of college towns. From what I'm told, they have live music nearly every night. The night I was there, it was "Brothers Green". Pretty awesome band actually, I'd check them out if you like jazz, blues, reggae, and hip hop. Service was fast, drinks were flowing, and people were dancing. Highly recommended for your dive bar fix in JoCo topped off with good people watching. read more

Jerry's is a hole-in-the-wall, with the type of decor you'd expect from someplace that describes itself as a "bait shop." The bar is also fairly small, but that adds to its charm. When you're at Jerry's, you definitely feel like one of the gang, and that makes for a great time. Last time I was there, we befriended a guy named "Rick," Turns out his name wasn't really Rick, my friend, already in a couple of drinks, mistook him for another guy named Rick. (For the record, turns out that other guy also isn't named Rick, but apparently his name only "sounds like Rick.") Anyway, Rick was great, providing us some laughs. And that's what Jerry's in general is like; you meet new people, hang out, and have an awesome time. They also have live music there and a small dance floor. (I'm guessing it is a dance floor; maybe we were just being rude to the people sitting at the tables.) Because the place is so small, you can interact with the band. We interacted by grabbing the band's unused cowbell and clanging along. It was all cool at Jerry's. All in all, awesome experience. Jerry's is one of the few things worth crossing the state line for. (P.S. Skip the Lee's Summit location. Although the bar is bigger, the crowd is different and kinda weird.) read more

There are dive bars and dance bars. And when you've been drinking, some dive bars straddle the line. Jerry's has the type of atmosphere that really sells me. When I feel a need to get together with my friends, the first idea that comes up is Thursday night with Jayson Kayne. Several beers in, the bar is the "horny section" during sweet caroline, and coming in too early for John Mellencamp's Jack And Diane. Every time. Never fails somehow. If you're looking for food, they really do have some great pizza, and have a regular lunch buffet that I've never been to, but my barmates relate is truly good. read more

This place is freakin' light years ahead of the Lee's Summit location, I can tell you that much! This is a pretty neat place to chill out. I have never been there for any music, but I'm sure it's even better then. However, I hate crowds...I mean, I really really HATE crowds...so odds are I'd avoid a busy music night unless I really, really, really wanted to see the band. The drinks here are poured up quickly and pretty strong, even on specials, but their liquor selection isn't the greatest. The beer is cold, and the selection is average - all your basics, and even some not-so-basics, such as Hoegaarden (in bottle only, though). It appears that beer and well drinks keep them afloat. The service isn't overly friendly, but it isn't rude either. It's fine. This place is definitely one that thrives on its regulars, but they tend to be pretty nice. If it were closer, I would come here a lot more often...however, considering the fact that they pour their drinks pretty liberally, this 22 block drive from my house means I usually have to space my drinks out over a long time period, and that doesn't work for me most times. I guess I wouldn't call this place a dive bar in the true sense, so it intrigues me that the word has been thrown around on here. I love dive bars, and this just isn't one to me. Went here to listen to some live music with my boyfriend and mom. We were lucky enough to find seating -- it filled up pretty quickly once the band started. We ordered some loaded nachos and a few drinks throughout our visit. Service was average -- felt quick at times and slow during others. However, it seemed the waitress may have been the only person serving everyone (not a huge place, but still!). Might be back if I'm craving a laid-back place with live music. read more

What a disaster on a Thursday night, ordered 4 calzones for 4 people. Each calzone came out to the table 20 to 30 minutes apart so everyone ate separately with the 4th one coming out that wasn't the correct one ordered, told keep it, we won't charge you for that. There are a few key points that keep my review from being higher than a 3 star mark for Jerry's. I love the drink choices, the live music, and the location. They also have pretty good fries, tasty pizza, and spinach dip that's not half bad (even if the portion is small). BUT, there is very limited seating, and more than a few times, my date and I have had to eat at the bar (standing) because tables were taken up by ONE person where there should be 4-5. Service can be slow, because they don't staff heavily on their busy nights, and it's so hard to see or get through the crowd that the wait staff may or may not get to you when you need them. That being said, their hourly pizza special is fantastic on Thursdays. ($7 for a pizza at 7:00, $8 for one at 8:00, etc.) The pizza is almost greek in style, with a thin rolled crust, mild sauce and large toppings. This is a great place to go and see a live local band and get a drink. It is NOT the best place to take a date if you actually want to talk to them. read more

I wanted to like Jerry's, I really did. I had been there once before long, long ago during the day for food and it had been decent enough. And I really want to support local music venues, but... Ordered myself a drink. The menu says "UV & Monster $3.50". Several signs all over the place say the same thing. It's been a long day, I could use a pick-me-up so I order one at the bar. "Do you want that as a bomb or a drink?" "Drink, please". Get drink, open tab, sit down. First one is a little weak, so when a waitress makes a pass after that one is empty (and it sits empty for quite a while), I ask for a double of it. I figure, worst case scenario, it'll be 2 of those, so $7.00. Then I get the tab, with 1 at $7.50 and one at $11.75. WTH? I ask the waitress about it, pointing to the menu I had ordered from. She says something about my having ordered a double, to which I explain I had one single and one double, and that doesn't explain why one of them was almost 12 bucks. She scampers away with my check to ask the bartender, who comes back out 10 minutes later, tells me that that $3.50 price is only for bombs, yeah, sorry the menu isn't very clear about that, sets my as-is tab back down, and walks off. Umm, ok. So, four stars for decent food and hosting music (although it's an awfully small venue, so you should really like your fellow fans). Zero stars for weak drinks and crappy customer service. You get 2 to average it out. I'll go see my bands elsewhere, which is a shame since most of the other venues are across the city. read more

I was disappointed - the reviews looked good and the atmosphere was great. The place was a little cold, but I'm sure it's hard keeping a business warm in the cold weather. The Bartender/waitress was really nice. The food took for ever to come out - I had a buy one/get one but should have been clear when ordering that I didn't need for them both to be ready at the same time. My burger was a disappointment initially - I got a rodeo type that was supposed to have BBQ sauce and an onion ring. It took a little longer than I would have like to get the bartender's attention, and she offered to get me a new burger -I told her that I just wanted the BBQ sauce after she told me she didn't know why it still stated an onion ring since they didn't have them - but the only reason I am giving that 3rd star how absolutely delicious the burger was. It really was fantastic - it was this really big squarish piece of meat - but the taste, the taste was amazing. The pizza was a disappointment as were the fries, but that burger - I honestly will be back just to experience that again. read more

I have been debating between two and three stars, but have decided on 2 stars for one very big reason: Cleanliness. I am a big fan of the dive bar, but by no means is that an excuse to slack on cleanliness. Menus and drink specials cards are always sticky, and your lucky if the table has had a good wipe down all day. The food, however, is really good. My favorite is the Philly, and the pizza is pretty good as well. Also, the staff is always really friendly. It's my local bar, and I will be back, and if they could just keep the place a little cleaner, I would happily give it a higher rating. read more

I came here for happy hour with a group of coworkers. I didn't pick the place and had never heard of it before, but it looked like it was in a cool spot in Old Town Lenexa. The inside does have a somewhat bait shop theme. It's a pretty small bar, and they have a fairly small selection of beers, most of which are domestic. They did offer a full menu, and I ended up splitting a plate of "Bones" with one of my coworkers. Bones are basically a calzone that has been formed into a ring, and it comes with marinara and ranch dipping sauce. Overall, a decent bar, but nothing really stood out to me as different or outstanding. read more

On occasion I like to stop here for the lunch pizza buffet, which seems to be one of the few left around. Anyway, it costs $7 for all the buffet, drinks included. If anyone is familiar with Pyramid Pizza, this is the same deal: thinnish pizza with a fat twisted crust "heel", and honey on the side (I skip that personally). Overall the pizza is decent, and there is usually a nice variety. Sometimes they seem to have a little trouble keeping the buffet stocked with the old standbys such as pepperoni, cheese, sausage, etc, but give it a few minutes and they'll bring out a stack of pies. read more
