A great local hardware store with the best Big Green Egg selection in the area. I have been to quite a few hardware stores in the Minneapolis area in search of Big Green Egg accessories and Jerry's consistently has those difficult to find items. Although, I primarily go here for my grill accessories they are a full service hardware store where they also,do small engine repair. I can't speak to experiences reported by others. I'm basing this review on three specific encounters with the staff at this store. In all cases, I found them knowledgeable, dedicated and ultimately highly effective. The first time I walked in needing help was last spring. An outdoor faucet had begun to leak. I shut off the water supply and took out the handle hoping to replace just the washer. In trying to remove the washer, I managed to strip the soft brass center screw making it impossible to proceed. I went to a big box home store a purchased a replacement faucet. Overkill when all that was needed was a washer but I didn't think I had a choice. As it happened, the replacement didn't fit. I returned it and did what I should have done in the first place, took the faucet core to Jerry's. An experienced hand took a look and within minutes had extracted the stripped screw, found the proper washer replacement and installed it with a new screw. Total cost was $1.29. No charge for his time. I went home, reattached the handle and voila! No leak. The second trip involved the handle on my front door. After twenty years of reliable service, an internal part had broken off and was lodged inside as to make it impossible to unlock. I took the latch core out and saw the issue. Once again, I bought a replacement handle at the same big box home store only to realize once I got home that the new key wouldn't match the dead bolt. You'd think by now I would have learned my lesson and avoided the trip to Home Behemoth but no, I'm apparently a slow learner. I returned the door handle and took the broken mechanism to Jerry's. Another hardware veteran quickly located just exactly the replacement part needed that, when installed would mean I could continue to use the same key. Back home, I followed the steps that the fellow at Jerry's had patiently reviewed with me and, success! Finally, I needed a Cotter Pin (spring type). Yep, first went to Home Behemoth. Doh! First two people pointed vaguely toward hardware. Third person produced a box of Cotter Pins when I only needed one. Back to Jerry's. I was asked where will it be used (inside or outside), what type I needed (traditional, spring type, hammer lock, etc.), and the size. Based on my answers he pulled out a bin, extracted a single pin that perfectly met my requirements and I walked out only $1.79 lighter. Now, for most things hardware related I just go to Jerry's first and skip the big box headache. read more

I've been a home-owner now for a few years (and NO we are not finished "fixing it up")...I must admit I had NO IDEA what I was getting into when I made this "responsible investment". If I were handier (or richer) maybe I wouldn't have the perpetual headache that comes with ownership. You know what I mean, grandiose ideas on how stripping wallpaper, remodeling a kitchen, fixing grout etc. couldn't be all that hard? Well, what I've learned is that I have remodeler ADD. I get terribly bored with a project about 1/3 of the way through. I attribute this to a lack of "detail skills", like paint prep work. I married my mirror in this category, btw. But let me tell you, if it weren't for Jerry's, my home would have gone to hell more quickly than it takes us to mow our yard (about 2 weeks on average). At Jerry's, they walk you through all your potential/current disasters. They are both supportive and helpful during emergencies, like when your husband suddenly feels his skillset is on par with a licensed plumber and (surprise) it's not. The size of the store and the helpful staff make it a better choice than Home Depot when you want to get in and out or actually need help finding something. I was looking for a few specific pieces of hardware that were small and inexpensive but they took the time to help me find them and offer suggestions. They have a great selection for such a small space. read more

All the selection of a home depot but with tons of helpful, friendly service. They practically attack you as soon as you come in the door to see how they can help you! This can really save a person a ton of time and get you on your way to that weekend project. They are also very helpful with advice if you are someone (like me) that needs it. read more

It kills me to do this, but I have to give Jerry's 2 stars. I've been a customer of theirs for a few years and have always enjoyed shopping this local hardware store vs. a big box retailer. It has that small town feel that you just do not get anywhere else. I brought my lawnmower in for a tune up, which they quoted me about $80. I ended up paying $120, got it home, and it only worked for 5 minutes before not restarting. I had to rent a truck to get it to and from the shop, so at this point I am at my limit. I planned on buying a new mower this Fall, which I will do sooner, but because of this experience it certainly will not be from Jerry's. I cant imagine relying on them for support of a product if they unable to complete a simple tune up. I am more bummed than anything. read more

Just got back from Jerry's off of Louisiana and wanted to share my experience. The remote control/key for my Lexus broke the other day so I ordered a new blank and decided to upgrade to a flip key from Amazon. All I need to do is transfer the electronics from the old key to the new one and find a place to cut the new one. I've seen Jerry's advertise that they can cut high security keys so I went there first. I walked in and went to the back service desk where they cut keys and explained what I wanted to do. The man responded "yeah, we can cut Lexus keys but not THAT one". Oh really? I'm looking at my key wondering what's wrong with it. He says "we only cut our keys. We won't cut yours." Ok. So I asked if they had Lexus flip keys. Nope. Just the regular ones (like the one that broke). I said, "Ok. So how much is the one you have?" My thought was maybe I could just pay for a $5 blank he has and get him to cut mine instead. "$79.99" Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Right! That's the only way he'd do it. I had to pay him 80 bucks for a stupid cut job on a key I already have. So I left and called around. Now I'm going to a locksmith on Excelsior. He said he'd be happy to cut my key for $20. SOLD! The lesson is: don't get keys cut at Jerry's unless you want to get ripped off. read more

I am not much into hardware stuff, but I was seriously impressed with this place. While I do not know if they have all the right stuff at the right prices, the people who work here are amazing. All I needed was to make a copy of a key, and I had a couple of questions about a shower head. Boy, these people know their stuff and they can make you a key in under a minute. Everyone was very friendly, knowledgeable and I felt that my business was valued here. Maybe one day when I do get my dream house, I shall come here for all of my do it yourself projects around the house!! read more

Let me start out by welcoming Jerry's to their new neighborhood. I was a patron of the Miracle Mile location and was saddened that MM let them go, but was thrilled when I heard they were moving a few blocks away from my house. I hope their new landlord goes out of their way to keep them happy. Selection and service are the hallmarks of a good hardware store and Jerry's excels in both categories. The store is well lit and not so large (ie. like HD) that you can't find anything. My one suggestion would be that they redo the aisle signs that hang overhead, as the white lettering on light gray background is difficult to read, maybe black on gray would be better. I've never gone in to Jerry's and not be asked if I needed help to find what I needed, but at the same time I have been left to explore the new store and not been rushed, just the way I like it. I'm so happy Jerry's is in the hood! read more

I am one of the few that are excited about the move to the old Almsteads location on Cedar Lake and Louisiana. These guys are the best, forget about the big box retailers. Seriously - someone will answer your questions and they have all kinds of things I can't find at Homer D. Poe even if they do have it...things like fasteners....try finding a 8/32nd in half inch at a big box...how about a bronze bushing...Come on people they have BUSHINGS!!!. I think I know why they call that strip mall miracle mile...cause of all the sheet they stuffed in that old hardware store. read more

First let me say that I am not handy. I don't take on home repair projects and I don't build things in general. However...I really like hardware stores. I always have. I love the aisle of little drawers that hold all the various types of nails and screws. I love the racks of oddly-shaped pipes and duct work. I love the old guys that work there who have helped enough women that they are not the condescending jerks you might expect them to be. Jerry's is just this place. Not very large, but big enough to service your lawn mower, pick up some weather stripping, have a replacement for your washing machine's wigwag, offer advice about your slow shower drain and hand you a box of pop corn while you shop. read more

Don't know much about the store as a whole. But I wouldn't recommend their repair shop. I brought my craftsman snow thrower in for what I found to be a busted sheer bolt. The guy at the counter fixed it right there (3 min) and said he'd charge me 37 cents. He then took a look at the blower and said I needed to clean up or replace the scraper bar. I asked to leave it there for that repair. So we decided to add a couple extra repairs/services since I was gonna leave it. They were supposed to fix the scraper bar, the pull rope, and change the oil. I left after paying a $40 deposit.... When I picked it up they charged me another $40 and change. They ended up only fixing the rope and changing the oil. but there was no one there to complain to. Fast forward 4 days and they call me to tell me to pick up my snow thrower. When I informed the gentleman that I had already picked it up he claimed that there wasn't a record of me paying (the $80 plus charge on my bank statements says otherwise). I told him that I already paid and told him that I was disappointed in the fact that they forgot about the main reason I left it. I asked why I was charged so much for a couple of small things and he said he had to call me back. He called back saying that they extra charge came from the repairman having to drill out the sheer bolt. I told him that the sheer bolt was fixed in front of me without the use of a drill. He then started to backtrack about not being able to remember every machine that they work on. I'm pretty sure I got screwed here and I still need repairs on my blower. read more

We had a great experience today. After recently moving to the area, we wanted to buy a snow blower before the next big storm. Menards and Home Depot didn't have what we needed so we went to Jerry's. 2 awesome associates helped us figure out how to use the Toro snow blower, told us which local gas station to get the right gas and when we realized it wouldn't fit into the SUV, the associate offered to drop it off at our house within a half hour! Top notch customer service! So friendly and not pushy at all. I've also been there a few other times to pick up a few random things. They always gave me great recommendations and a few times showed me lower cost options that worked great! One time I worked with a younger kid that tried his best but could tell I was in trouble from the beginning. Keep in mind, it was a complicated plumbing issue for a young kid and I should have asked for a second opinion and had to return the stuff in the end. I didn't know what I was talking about but the Menards people happened to get it right. No biggie!! He was trying his best. read more

Rented a sod cutter. Worked fine but rated the store a 2 because while they have tons of staff and they'll all say hi to you, they won't lift a finger to help. Instead they pass the buck on to the next guy and the next guy passes it on to the next guy. Example: three guys at the front desk grumbled about the guys at the service desk having nothing to do but they couldn't be bothered to help me carry a heavy ass bulky sod cutter to the back of the store when I'm obviously struggling after a day of cutting sod in my garden and was covered with dirt and scratches from bushes to prove it. read more

Thank god for Jerry's Do It Best. There's always someone there to help answer your questions. Unlike Home Depot where you have to hunt someone down and even then they respond with a glazed eye and slack jaw. Home Depot makes my brain explode. Jerry's also has random stuff like Science Diet food for dogs and cats, but whenever Im in a bind I automatically go to Jerry's to fix it. read more

If I could give this place a zero stars I would! Do not go there I am warning y'all! I just left this place with a lightbulb that needed to be replaced the only bulb I had mind you! And the clerk broke that bulb apologizes I am sorry it was an accident! I spoke with the manager that said the same thing What are you kidding an 8.00 bulb and he breaks the only thing I have to try to get another one! Never once offered to replace it for free since they broke it .. I hope they go out of business... No one breaks bulbs by accident and does nothing for the customer! Can you imagine what they would do with your stuff??? And he wanted me to buy the new one from them... I laughed myself out the door on my way to Home Depot! Who is this "Jerry" and how is he able to run such a terrific hardware store? I'll be honest, I have never actually gone in asking for "Jerry" himself so he could be there like some maniacal puppetmaster pulling the strings of his workers but I digress. Been going here for 4 years now, I have started to seek out "Pedro" as my trusted advisor when I'm there (everyone is really helpful) and he has helped me with everything from installing a new drain in my sink to dealing with my gutters and downspouts (he even has patiently looked at pictures I have taken on my digital camera in an effort to communicate my problems - he nodded mostly as I babbled and was able to get at what I needed even if I did sound like an idiot.) 9 times out of 10 I walk out of there with everything right, that 1 out of 10 when something doesn't work I am able to return whatever I bought even if I opened the package and clearly tried to put the square peg in a round hole. This place feels 'your local hardware store' (so cliche) from the old timers shuffling around the aisles to the pimply-faced high school kids running the cash registers. First, I have to say, I just LOVE hardware stores! For as long as I can remember, there has just been a lure that I can't resist. Whether it's an itty bitty corner store, or a big box chain, it seems there are endless aisles of odds and ends that never cease to pique my curiosity and at the same time satiate my need for a multi sensory experience. I mean where else can you play with bins of nuts and bolts, grab your zillionth flashlight, and a pick up quick snack? Anyway, it had been a long day, and I was at the end of my errands, with a crabby baby...or should I say I crabby mommy...and needed a few of the 'odds' for my daughter's science labs and was dreading having to hunt through aisles and aisles of merchandise just to find the obscure assortment of things we needed. So, I pulled out my phone, opened my yelp app, and searched nearby and ended up at Jerry's. I walked in the door, was greeted by the cashier, then asked by another employee if he could help me find something, so, I rattled off the list, and he took us around aisle by aisle, showed us our options, and found every last thing we needed! It was awesome! As much as I love hardware stores, I was more than glad for the helpful staff and quick trip. read more
