Jerry's Place - The best seafood EVER! - Seafood Near Me - Prince Frederick, Maryland

I'm so tired of big-box stores and chain restaurants. Jerry's Place is the perfect antidote if you feel like that also. I write today to rave about the fried oysters; they are locally sourced at nearby Broome's Island, and fried with a VERY light coating. I note that because I have had oysters at other southern MD eateries, and the breading almost overwhelms the bivalve. My bib lettuce salad was also locally sourced from southern Calvert County. My french fries were birthed from an Idaho potato an hour or so before dinnertime. Not on the menu but available if you ask ~ oyster shooters ! Things to know before you go: - it's a small venue, only 52 seats - parking can be a challenge - they don't take reservations, but if you have a large group they absolutely will try to work with you if you call ahead The only teeny, tiny "negative" is a very limited beer and wine list ... with no local/regional offerings. Jerry's Place is only 33 miles from Beltway exit 11/MD Rt. 4. It is absolutely worth the trip from ANYWHERE in the metro-DC area !! read more

I want to adopt Jerry as my grandfather. My girlfriend and I were in town for a wedding and stopped by Jerry's place for lunch on a Saturday and were welcomed like family. Jerry has incredible energy and the food was top notch. If we told Jerry we had never had an item on the menu he immediately demanded the kitchen staff bring us a sample to try. Crab cakes are delicious! Love that they brought us a sample of the fried haddock (really good), stewed tomatoes (good), and the onion rings (some of the best I've ever had) before we ordered. The BEST crab cakes I have ever had. The crab meat was plentiful and nice, big chunks. The kale is amazing. The stewed tomatoes are pretty good, but a little too sweet. I have never dined in as we always get our meals to go. I have never tried anything else on the menu besides the crab cakes because I typically go here when I am craving crab. The perfect seafood joint. The kale is the second best vegetable I've ever eaten (the first slot will probably always be held by Rasika's fried spinach). My crab cake was everything you want in a crabcake-- packed with lump crab, lightly seasoned and no filler. My husband's rare tuna was the freshest I've ever tasted. And both of my children ate every single bite of their haddock bites. The banana cream pie tasted like someone's grandma spent hours making it. The service is the best I've ever had and we went on Mother's Day, one of the busiest days of the year. A waiter introduced himself to my children, as he brought everyone some nibbles to munch on while we waited outside of the restaurant. By the time we left, most of the staff had spoken to my children by name! My daughter even said to me "they must really like us here!" (They are well-behaved 3 year olds, most waiters look at them with tolerance at best.) Seriously, this was one of the most enjoyable family meals I've ever had. My friend and I ate lunch here and I agree with other reviews. The prices are far too expensive for the food and portions. I had the soft shell entree and while it was good, certainly not worth the price. The kale was ok but the stewed tomatoes were so sweet they were almost inedible. My friend had the lobster, and it came in three small slices fried on wooden skewers! Of course he was not told it would be served this way, and assumed it would be broiled. He would not send them back and ate as much as he could. The two entrees with iced tea for both and one coffee totaled $120 with tip. Definitely not worth coming back for. read more

I must be in the twilight zone - after hearing all the ranting and raving about this place we had to try it. It was ok, but not impressed. We have eaten in and carried out - both experiences the same - way overpriced, average seafood and. not much of it. Have been to a lot of seafood restaurants and am well experienced at cooking seafood properly. This seafood was the same as the average seafood chain just way more expensive and less food. What hurt the rating the most is the price to amount of food ratio. You can get the same type of food at a different establishment for a lot less money. My brother recommended Jerry's Place when we were taking our annual week in North Beach, so we met him and his friend there. As other reviewers mention, Jerry welcomes you like a long-lost relative, and immediate had a softshell crab brought to me -- I ended up ordering the combo, crab cake and softshells, and it was terrific. The crab cake was described by Jerry as lump crab meat and Helman's mayo, nothing else, and that was perfect. The softshell is something: they clean out the green tomalley and other stuff, leaving mostly meat, and it was fantastic. The stewed tomatoes are sweet, which I found excellent, but I can see that some diners might not prefer it. I ended up finishing my wife's haddock, which was also outstanding, and my brother's stuffed shrimp were so large that, despite his healthy appetite, he took half of it home. His friend had the haddock also, the second time for her, and she loved it as much the second time. Most of the negative comments I'm read here focus on the price, but I found that, for a seafood restaurant of that quality, the prices were reasonable. I paid nearly $50 for a crab cake at Stoney's in the Solomons and my crab cake and softshell combo a Jerry's was as good or better and less expensive. People: seafood is not cheap, so don't expect filet-o-fish sandwich prices. Jerry's will be a regular stop for us when we're back in the area. read more

Excellent food and service. Really the best crab cake I've ever had. All crab meat no filler. I ordered the 6oz crab cake dinner which comes with two sides. I had the lettuce wedge and baked potato, both good. My 1 year old was with us and not even a minute after we sat down they brought out cinnamon applesauce for her and warm bread for the table. Someone else in our group ordered the soft shell crab dinner and said it was delicious (it came with two sides as well). In addition to the great food the restaurant was clean and the service was great. I spotted a staff member wiping off all the menus as they were returned to the front desk, something I definitely haven't seen other places but really appreciate. Also the high chair provided for my baby was sparkling clean. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and professional. Jerry came to our table to greet us and sent over shrimp and haddock samples. These special touches are a rare find these days but add to a great experience. First off, I can't even begin to explain how great this place is. It's walk-in style, and we were served some amazing fried haddock and beverages while we waited (est 30 mins). The staff keep everyone updated, when the tables are almost ready. I loved the simplicity of the menu and the way the server introduced the specials. There is also a nice selection of wine. We ordered softshell crabs on a stick and the crab dip. These apps came out quick and were beyond tasty. The service is unprecedented from any I've experienced around these parts. The owner, Jerry personally walks around and warmly engages everyone; he is very personable. Jerry gave us a few surprise dishes to taste between courses. He even threw in a complimentary shot of Van Gogh espresso vodka w/ the dessert & coffee. Greatest customer service possible. Best seafood I've had in Maryland and maybe even the east coast. Not a single bad choice on the menu. Be prepared to pay a little more but it is well worth it. I found this place based on Yelp reviews, prior to meeting locals but Jerry's was recommended by a person I interviewed with. I ended up eating there for lunch and dinner. Crab cake is a must have, so are the soft shell crab and fried oysters. I ordered the latter two as a sandwich but asked them to hold the bread, I wish I said hold the chips as well, I was full to the brim by the time I was done with the seafood.
