Craving BBQ? Backwoodz is your place! The brisket with the fat cap on is AMAZING! So flavorful!…read moreCame in super hungry after a long travel day, and that first bite was heavenly. No sauce needed! Another standout was the cucumber & tomato salad which had just the right amount of vinegar. The green beans and the cabbage were tasty, but just a tad too salty for me. I can't fault them, as I rarely use salt, it's likely my palette that is off. The pulled pork was excellent, but needed sauce. Alas I cannot have sweet sauces. I then got the idea to combine the pork with the cabbage and found it similar to the experience of eating luau pork with poi. Better together! I added the leftover vinegar dressing from the C&T salad to the green beans and found that also was a hit. The desserts were very tempting, but I opted instead to order enough brisket and pulled pork for the weekend. It's proven to be very filling!! I also can't say enough about the staff. So genuinely welcoming, helpful, friendly, and clearly proud of their product (as they should be!). Put a smile on my face and will look forward to returning on future trips to Richmond!

Business was steady, but not full or overcrowded in the least. It's very close to the airport, easy access with plenty of free parking in the large lot out in front of the strip mall. Barbecue tasted good and they actually have fried okra . You don't find that everywhere. No issues with the additional side menu items. The portion of the barbecue and the side was quite small. Because it smelled so good when I walked in I went ahead and ordered a dinner portion and it turns out that's the same exact size as a lunch portion despite being more expensive. Service was slow. I don't mind waiting a few minutes for good barbecue, but it took longer than it should have. And, I was about halfway done with the meal before the soft drinks came out. Seems like they also do catering, which probably wouldn't have the slow service problem. I might try them again if I'm in that area as I don't think there's any BBQ close by the airport. Maybe I just hit it on a day when staff called out sick or something.

Not much flavor. Kids chicken strips were a chicken patty that was overcooked and cut up. Also came out lukewarm at best. The Rueben was soggy and had about three slices of meat on it. Very little sauce on the sandwich no and was charged for extra when I asked for more. Added the Parmesan truffle fries which were powered Parmesan with some truffle oil sprinkled on top. Again all lukewarm. The Timberwolf burger had maybe two jalapeño's on it and the onions were burnt. The regular burgers and kids are the same size. Housemade pickles were soggy and the cucumber skins were tough. The quality of food from when we had eaten here a couple years ago was subpar in comparison. If you are going to charge for upscale items then they need to be upscale in the quality of what you are serving. Will not be back.

Stopped by for lunch today since I have been kind of disappointed with my old sandwich place. This…read moreis definitely going to be my new go-to lunch spot. The parking situation is surprisingly easy for a downtown area, there were so many parking spots back behind the building. The vibe here is very peaceful and pleasant. There are tons of well-maintained live plants, plenty of colorful tapestries, a beachy blue and sandy brown color scheme, and a ton of fairy lights and fake plants decorating the walls. It is exactly how my house looks, and I love it. The food is amazing. We opted for a smash burger with bacon, a cheesesteak, a turkey bacon pesto sub, and a basket of fries to share. Everything was so ridiculously good. The bacon was thick and so crisp, which is exactly how I like it and it added so much texture to everything. The subs are thiccc and so good. They do not skimp on the meat here. The burger was awesome and definitely add bacon if you order it. The fries are perfect! They are slightly thicker than shoestring, and so crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The basket was the perfect size to split between three hungry adults. The service was great, everyone was friendly, the food came out really fast, and refills were brought pretty promptly. I will DEFINITELY be back again and again, this place is awesome.

The sandwich's are great. Our table got the cheesesteak, the turkey bacon pesto, the Italian and the roast beef. The cheesesteak was great- it was pretty cheesy, if I was ordering for myself I would ask for slightly less cheese but really it was perfect and piping hot. Everything else was also good as well. It's a little pricey but it was good. I wish the sandwiches/subs did include a side for the price. We will be back. Side note-Everclear was playing when we sat down so extra points for good jams.

I stopped by today and tried their Italian Grinder on house-made focaccia and it was absolutely incredible. The focaccia alone is worth the trip: golden, chewy, and just the right amount of crisp on the edges. But the real star? The layers of perfectly sliced Italian meats, sharp provolone, crunchy lettuce, and fresh banana peppers (added) that gave every bite a hit of tang and spice. It's a sandwich that feels both thoughtfully crafted and wildly indulgent. Even better, Polpetti is family-owned and operated, and you can taste the pride in every bite. The owner makes everything in-house from the focaccia to the pasta salad and it shows. The pasta salad was the perfect side: fresh and balanced with the right amount of crunch from the peppers. The vibe is warm, welcoming, and personal, just like the food. This spot is a must-visit for sandwich lovers. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu and support this local gem! UPDATE: They now have a coffee menu, take & bake options and gelato!

It can get a little pricy, especially when you want to try all of the things, but the portions were plentiful and tasted delicious. We started with the cheese stick roulette, where they apparently prep a bunch of different cheeses for cheese sticks earlier in the week, and then just randomly grab six to deep fry when you order it. You have no idea what it is, they have no idea what it is. Pretty fun and delicious and we love cheese, so total win. We ended up cutting them in half just to check what they were before eating because the kids do not like anything remotely spicy and pepper jack is one of the cheeses, so we just had to verify it wasn't that so they could eat it and hubs and I ate those ones instead. I thought the tomato coulis it was served with was stellar, and the fruity jam was also amazing. I could not decide which one was better for dipping the cheesesticks in, and I ended up keeping both condiments when the cheesesticks were gone so I could dip my fries in them. A fantastic choice, they were both great with the fries. Which I might add, are AWESOME! They are scoopable fries. So... like a cross between potato skins and potato wedges. They were both crispy and soft and very unique and so worth the trip. They also use the cheese dip instead of just shredded cheese, so it stays creamy and gooey. All of the burgers sounded awesome and it took us a very long time to decide what we wanted (I had been looking at the menu days in advance to make sure I could decide) and we opted for the Southern Gentleman (pimento cheese, hot honey and fried chicken) and the PBJ and I can't decide which one I liked more. They were both completely different and completely delicious. If I had to make a recommendation... I'd say bring a friend, order one of each and split them like hubs and I did. Choices are for suckers. Kiddos opted for the cheese fries that he came for (which come with bacon, btw) and the kiddos cheeseburger meal, and they both loved them. The service was great too, even when this place was pretty darn crowded on a weekday lunch hour. Also, don't be fooled by the storefront driving by, this restaurant is waaaaaaaay bigger on the inside than it appears on the outside. There was plenty of seating. The music was a touch too loud, but they also had some yummy sounding specialty drinks, as well as a bunch of local beers. My kids have been asking to come back pretty much since we left the restaurant.

Upon arrival, it was quite busy but the location still had plenty of seating. When we were seated, we noticed it was only one waitress waiting tables too. She was able to get us our drinks and orders pretty quickly despite working solo. I was the adventurous one in our group and ordered the pb and j cheese burger. Upon initial bite, it really tasted like a really well constructed burger. It was a double patty burger with white cheese. You don't really taste the jam. As you're chewing, the peanut butter comes out and it really makes the bite more creamy and definitely tastes of peanut butter. Overall, I would recommend fat boys for sure. Everyone thought the food tasted great and the portions were big. Definitely worth the trip!
