The office I was working in was on the same block as Pastaria Deli & Wine, so a less than five-minute walk from the office, so no driving or need to hail an Uber was awesome. Inside there are wine bottles all over the walls and it just has this cozy, Italian café/deli vibe. Depending on when you get there, the line to the cash register can snake out the door, but it moves pretty fast. There's a surprising number of tables inside and since the weather was nice, there were several tables out in front. Each day, we had the same cashier, Carly (I believe that's her name). Carly was incredibly bubbly, cute, fun! Once we placed our order, we received a metal tag with a number on it and found a table. I didn't order any sort of specialty drink; I took advantage of the free water located near the back of the restaurant. The time from when we placed our order to getting our lunch was pretty quick, even when the place was packed for lunch. So for the three days I was in St. Louis, I ordered these three sandwiches: 1. Il Capo Italiano: Lemon ricotta, mortadella, soppressata, mozzarella, giardiniera, salted potato chips (Miss Vickie's most likely), arugula, red wine vinegar, & extra virgin olive oil on a 6.5" Union Loafers Hoagie - A jam-packed sandwich! The lemon ricotta was amazing and the crunch from the salted potato chips was excellent. Beware that this sandwich is heavy on the oils, so be prepared to "wear" this sandwich the rest of the day unless you brought your toothbrush. haha This sandwich was plenty thick, the slices of mozzarella really helped to make this sandwich thick and filling. 2. Volpi Heritage Prosciutto: Volpi Heritage prosciutto, butter, lemon olive oil, & house-made giardiniera on a 6.5" Union Loafers Hoagie - The lemon olive oil was a very pleasant flavor, not too strong. Of the three sandwiches I ordered, this was the smallest in terms of fillings but it was still plenty filling for lunch with a bag of Miss Vicky's Spicy Dill Pickle chips! 3. Chicken Bacon Ranch: Thin sliced chicken breast, bacon, smoked cheddar cheese, tomato, arugula, banana peppers, & jalapeno-ricotta ranch on a 6.5" Union Loafers Hoagie - The sliced chicken breast was piled on thick and the bacon was a welcome addition. There was plenty arugula and banana peppers inside but the jalapeno-ricotta ranch elevated this! Creamy with a slight spicy kick to it. I didn't have one bad meal here and for the quality and quantity, I felt the prices were pretty reasonable, especially in the year 2026. Pastaria Deli & Wine is an awesome lunch spot! The friendly staff, cool, authentic Italian-vibes, fast service, and the quality food, it comes together here! The pastrami was was exceptionally nuanced, and this place will def be our go to from now on.

Good news / bad news…read more The good: Ordered a Rachael (pastrami ruben) on rye to go. It was huge and very tasty. The meat was mostly small pieces (instead of slices), which was a little disappointing, but it tasted great and would highly recommend it. The bad: The rye bread soaked up sandwich juices and was very soggy. Couldn't pick it up at all and ended up eating it with a fork. Will be back, but only to eat in.

From what I can tell Salume operates the small deli at the back of the store from about 10am-2pm each day Parker's is open. They have special meats and cheeses that are turned into fantastic sandwiches that rival the best you can get in the St Louis area. Their Italian sausage is a favorite of mine and I almost always have some in the freezer. I like all their sandwiches but over the summer they were doing a BLT that has no peer. Besides the bacon from their butcher shop they also used thick slices of heirloom tomatoes that were ripe and full of flavor. That extra touch with tomatoes you normally have to grow on your own did it for me.

The first came with a pack of mixed bagels and a giant (GIANT) tub of dill schmear. The second order came with a small tub of salmon salad, a medium tub of split pea soup, and a pack of mixed bagels. We were generally happy with both orders: Bagels: love that these taste so robust and fresh, even though we know these were excess product and potentially day-old. I also appreciate that their bagels with onion/garlic are not A) overpowering or B) burnt, both common issues we have found at other bagel shops. Schmear: Well made, but few flavors available. They have plain, onion, dill, tzatziki, and strawberry from memory. They may have one or two more that we are forgetting. Salmon salad: delicious and absolutely would pick up again! Split pea soup: Our one true miss. This was watery and the flavors were weak. Would not order or ask for in a bag again. The shop/restaurant itself is so cute and a great spot to grab lunch with friends. We're so excited to come back with friends when they visit and we have more time for a sit-down meal. The major downside here is parking! The spiedini was equally good, if not better than what they serve at Charlie Gitto's. It was packed full of flavor, had a nice char on the outside and seasoned to perfection, just how I like it. I ended up sticking with the sandwich and decided to browse the store while my sandwich was being made. I love how they have everything you need and at relatively good prices. I was surprised at how much alcohol they had- it seemed like they had more of that than the groceries! It wasn't long until my sandwich was ready and I decided to grab a chocolate chip cookie because you know I couldn't leave without getting something sweet.
