First time trying a Mediterranean restaurant and WOW. This place is a little hole in the wall restaurant right near DU but don't let it fool you, it's delicious. Extensive menu and great service. Its was pretty busy in there and we were in and seated within 2 minutes. I had a few questions about the menu that my more experienced party could not answer and the waiter did a great job at explaining. The food came out quick too.We all got a mix of food from Gyros, Kabobs, and Shawarma. We all loved it. We also ordered the Baklava and got two free. For 4 people with entrees, deserts, and drinks it was reasonably priced. Parking around DU can be a nightmare but they have their own parking lot and even with the place being busy, there were spots. My one suggestion is to not let the look fool you, this place was delicious! read more

Waitstaff were great. Food was average. A bit flavorless. After reading the reviews I was prepared to be blown away but wasn't. Atmosphere is college level cleanliness and a bit sticky all around. Late night lovelyness! We called uber eats at 1am and they put a huge spread together for us and delivered the goods by 2 am to our hotel. The hummus was creamy and divine as usual but the dolmas are pure heaven. The salads, buttery rice and kabob gyro plates are more than filling. The four of us feasted for about $20 a head including tip. The owner called me personally to make sure the driver was coming to pick up our order He was sweet and said he threw in some extra baklava for the birthday boy! This place is forever! Really nice little place that is affordable and has vegan options. However taste is not always the best. The pita bread was far from great but their hummus is amazing. Faoul was ok. Grape leaves were delicious. Lentil soup was very delicious. My chicken shawarma sandwich was not that tasty, I personally didn't like the flavors that much but it had lots of chicken at least which was good. For only $3 you had several baklava pieces. I last lived in Denver almost 15 years ago, and this place was one of my top fives for delicious food at a good price at almost all hours of the day and night. Happy to see they are still around! It's small, it's run down, but the folks are nice and the food still rocks. A few cozy tables inside and patio seating outside, which I fully enjoyed on a spring day. My favorite tabbouleh, ever, and I've lived all over the country - it's mostly greens with just the right amount of creamy/chewy cracked wheat, onion, tomato, and a religious amount of lemon juice. I came here to get a late night snack as they are one of the few restaurants that were open. I got the hummus and while the price is a little bit more it really is a lot better than store bought hummus. The texture is softer and creamier and the flavor is very well balanced. You can taste the lemon and garlic but neither is overwhelming as in some store bought hummus. I definitely need to come back some time for dinner. I see that they have a lot of mixed reviews with many complaining that their meats are dry. If I had to guess, I suspect it may be because some of the reviewers are coming in at off-peak hours where some of the meats may not have been recently cooked? Perhaps they were sitting under heat lamps? I really don't know but it may be one of the occasional trade-offs of dining at a place that is open super late, long after most other restaurants have closed. Regardless, it definitely looks to be worth checking out, just based on the amount of customers I saw going in. They had a lot of yummy looking desserts in the front display case too. read more

Not sure what all the fuss is about. Certainly smells nice upon walking inside, and the dusty drapes hanging from the ceiling made it seem like a street vendor and not a restaurant. Very cramped inside. Tiny tables too. My daughter and I wanted to try their Turkish coffee and were sorely disappointed. It was served in paper Dixie cups and was stale as well as NOT hot. Our food came out and it looked tasty, but didn't seem freshly prepared and tasted like warmed up leftovers. The naan wasn't freshly made either and tasted like the packaged ones available at Costco. We were given a slice of baklava which was stale and had rotten nuts. We spit it out and informed our server who argued with us saying it was freshly made. No apology or compensation was given. I do not recommend this place and will not return. read more

We LOVE The Jerusalem Restaurant! We were greeted right away with smiling faces behind the counter. Our server, Jordan was very attentive and was efficient even when we ordered additional items! The hummus? GOLD. We had to take our dessert and Arabic coffee to go since we were STUFFED, but we snuck a taste in the car and it was delicious! I would love to give this 5 stars but the accommodation factor takes away from that. Everything else, spot on. The food was amazing, not usually a fan of lamb but they seasoned it to perfection. All the meats were tender and juicy, the rice was simple but so savory. Service was good considering it was completely packed on a cold Saturday with the already small waiting area completely occupied with people waiting on tables, this proved to be quite challenging for customers and staff. Desserts were also quite sumptuous. Absolutely no issues with the food, service or staff but if you intend on dining in be prepared to wait a bit (normal for most restaurants) really close seating accommodation, too crowded for my liking. Calling ahead might make sense if you live close by but not practical if you don't, place fills up in minutes! Will definitely revisit but probably on a weekday! read more

As if 2020 was not already a disappointing year for a lot of people, I had the most disappointing meal of the year from Jerusalems. I had been a patron of this restaurant from 2004 to 2017, took a break, and ordered food from here because they man I am dating had nostalgia about it. We called in the order (Sheesh Kifta $13.95 and the Combination "Super Dish" $14.95) for pick up. When we got to the front of the line to ask for our order the host/order taker could not find the order. She found it on the last page of the POS system. We waited 20 min to receive our food. Once we got back to my place to eat we were appalled. My order barely had any salad and the Kifta was pink in the middle. His order was the worst out of the two. The chicken was dry plus there was only one piece, the Kifta was pink in the middle, there was one piece of overcooked steak, the gyro meat was dry, there was one pitiful stuffed grape leaf inside the Baba Ghanouj, the tabbouleh was submerged in the Baba Ghanouj, and his fatouch was underneath the dry gyro meat. Three cold pita's were still in the original bag they came in. The only saving grace was the fallafel that was not fantastic but was crunchy and well seasoned. We both looked at each other with utter disappointment. The food was completely overpriced for it's low quality. the two meals were nearly thirty dollars tax and tip Years ago the food would have been less than twenty bucks and decent, . This is my husband's go to restaurant whenever he wants lamb shank. We have been coming here for 10 plus years, mostly at night when everywhere is closed. Today, we did pick up around 10:30 after coming back from Grand Lake. We ordered lamb shank and kallayeh. Both came with a very generous portion of saffron rice and a side of tabouleh and lettuce salad. It came with 2 pita breads per entree. It does say on their menu it does not come with hummus, so if you like to dip your pita bread in hummus just order a side for around $5. The food is tasty as usual. My husband finished his lamb shank before I could get a picture. Please order ahead of time for the lamb shank because they only make a limited amount on a daily basis. My kallayeh is a sirloin tip in a tomato curry sautéed with onions, bell peppers, tomatoes, and spices. The meat is not particularly tender. It is on a tougher side but I don't mind it since I like the flavor of the dish. Give it a try if you like spicy curry flavor food. In the past, I've tried their kabobs, kifta, and gyros but found it bland and dry. So whenever, we come here I order kallayeh. For kifta, kabob or falafel, I like to grab them from Gyro Town on Colorado blvd. read more

There is a reason why the top rankings stopped after 2015. I went into the restaurant for carryout and watched the server warm up food in the microwave before bringing it out. He put the pita bread and stuffed grape leaves in the microwave. I understand the constraints of limited kitchen space but microwave cooking is unacceptable for a restaurant that prides itself on serving authentic Mediterranean food in Denver! I ordered the falafel sandwich to go. It was a huge disappointment since I had amazing falafels from a street cart and from a restaurant. This didn't measure up to any of my expectations. It's a staple in the cuisine and how can you mess it up? First of all the falafels were cold and it didn't come with the any tomatoes as listed. The pita bread was stale and dried up. If I wanted a cold falafel sandwich, I couldn't have gone to Trader Joe's and get it. The flavors were missing too! The baklava was greasy and you can taste the oil it's fried in - definitely not fresh or appetizing! All in all, a very disappointing experience. Super cute little place. Looks kinda run down from what I could see. One of the doors was just blowing open in the wind the whole time I was eating. It was a little messy in there too. When people were done with plates and cups, the cups were put on the floor for some reason and the plates were put in a plastic box on the floor by the stairs. I thought that kind of seemed untidy. I'm sure the staff were mostly college students since it's by DU. It didn't seem like they knew what they were doing, there was a lot of going to the back to ask their manager questions, but they were very polite the whole time and we got everything we needed. The food was really good and really fast. I don't think I'd take a date here if I wanted to impress them, but I'd come here again by myself because the food was nice and quick and yummy. read more

I've lived in the DU neighborhood since Jerusalem opened (~1978). For 30 years they were our go to mideastern restaurant for large portions, great flavors, reasonable pricing and proximity. Did take out last night and found the food to be lesser than it was. We typically order a meat combo platter and a vegetarian combo platter for 3-4 people. We got very little meat, runny hummus, salad consisting of only lettuce and some dry baklava for $42. Price wasn't terrible but food was pretty uninteresting. They also have a take out process where they tell you 15-20 minutes over the phone but don't put your order in to the kitchen until you have arrived for pick up and paid for the food forcing you to wait another 15-20 minutes at the front of the restaurant while the food is prepared. I will probably try the other mideastern restaurants in the neighborhood before going back to Jerusalem. read more

We ordered from Ubereats and we were very happy with our food! Everything was fresh with good size portions. The tatziki and baba ganouj were especially tasty- far better than I've tasted at other Greek style restaurants in the Denver area. The salad was super fresh and the rice had good flavor. We ordered the meat platter to share and the chicken was disappointingly dry. The side order of fries was lacking in salt. Besides those two small things our order was spectacular. We will definitely be ordering from here again (and skipping the French fries). read more

I have been coming here for maybe 30 or more years. I had hands down the worst service ever today. I ordered the food from the restaurant's website. Spent $46. I went to pick it up and am told it's already been picked up by some door dash driver. Okay well mistakes happen so just remake my order. The guy at the counter said no. I am not going to be responsible for this mistake. He said he would have to pay for the meal if they remade it. I am pretty sure that's illegal and makes me wonder about Jerusalem's labor practices. I said well okay then reimburse me. He refused saying he will not be responsible for this error. He gave me the phone # for his supervisor. I have left her a message. Stopped in here on the weekend. Was able to get a table and food served quickly. Ordered chicken shawarma and chicken gyro plate. Food was sub par to say the least. Gyro meat was dry and lacked flavor. Rice seemed reheated and hummus, meh. Had to ask for pita bread that was supposed to be included with the meal. The tabbouleh was full of water which took away from the flavor. The only good thing o can say about the experience was the baklava for dessert which has recently been made and the lentil soup. I'm not sure why this place had good reviews because I didn't see or feel any of this.
