1-Star Review for Hannah W. In late February, I had a haircut & partial highlight appointment with Hannah, after a haircut I was happy with from her. Given her prices on the website I had an expectation of ~ $325 with tip. With inspiration photos, I articulated my desires: blonde babylights and more subtle moneypiece, bangs, face-framing layers, a 2-3 inch trim & to avoid chunky highlights. Natural feeling. Despite my explicit instructions, Hannah advocated for a full highlight over my requested partial saying it would look disconnected otherwise & grow out bad. I explained my hair is sensitive to bleach, she pushed saying she's using a low volume/good bleach, and spun me in the chair to explain how it would look bad in the crown. I hesitantly agreed. After the bleaching phase, my hair was banana peel yellow and felt compromised. She assured me the toning would rectify it. After toning she applied a K18 keratin treatment, a choice made without my consent, likely because of the significant challenges she faced brushing through my dry dead strands. By the end, my hair was a far cry from my expectations, appearing a jarring orange/auburn and cut shorter than agreed upon. Seeing my lack of "omg I love it" when revealing it she offered a return visit for corrective toning--at no extra cost--it felt like a subtle acknowledgment of her mistake. Yet, the bill was a staggering $550, not including the tip. I paid the unexpected sum plus a tip. My scalp felt irritated and my neck was sore given her aggressive scrubbing and brushing despite me mentioning my head was feeling tender 2x during the wash phases and saying it felt too strong when styling. She's super chatty and not great at listening. That evening of the cut she texted, claiming her card reader malfunctioned. I don't check my texts/phone often, had spent 2 hours longer than expected in studio and simply didn't see it as I tried to hustle with everything else I had to get done before leaving in 36 hours for an international business trip. The following day she texted again but with personal attacks, suggesting I intentionally evaded payment and i was cruel because she had rent to pay. As a rebuttal, I stressed I'd already paid a hefty $550 plus tip for the worst hair service I've ever had in studio and needed a minute to check my CC bill on my end as I was just seeing her messages. Her curt response was to "SPEAK UP" if there are things you don't want/don't like and that she had already offered to do a corrective tone for free. I honestly was appalled, felt like I had communicated clearly and defended myself. I pointed out her uncalled for behaviour and that I didn't have time for another 30 minute drive there, a lengthy toning session and 30 minute drive back. That I literally had a rats nest upon waking up and it was brittle and extremely dry. She then tried to backtrack & apologize. I honestly was so busy preparing to leave for 3 weeks and working that day I just asked the fair amount owed given what I booked, asked for and what I got. She said $350 given the extra bowls, time and keratin that shouldn't have even been needed if she listened to me. After being gaslit, wanting it to be over and my sympathy given my 7 years living paycheck to paycheck in the service industry, I sent $390 The aftermath has been a costly, frustrating endeavor. I got 10vol and 3NB to tone it down the morning before I left for my business trip - I did this on my hair from temples & crown up for 20 minutes, leaving the lower layers of hair alone so they didn't have to go through more damage. I spent $300 at Sephora on K18 and other treatments so I could brush my hair without breaking it constantly. After the trip I cut 3 more inches because it was ratty and difficult to manage. Post-wedding season, I just chopped it to shoulder length. Regrettably, it'll take YEARS and THOUSANDS of dollars to restore my hair to its pre-Hannah state. In conclusion: Approach Hannah's color/highlight services with EXTREME CAUTION. Oh, and don't forget to SPEAK UP. read more

OH MAHHHH GAWD YOU GUYS! I'm basically a blue hair, mermaid vibe goddess after seeing Jess today!! I'm absolutely in love with my hair and I feel like my confidence I lost during Covid is back. No joke, picture Return of the Mack playing while you are reading this review. For starters, Jess totally worked with my crazy schedule and got me in on a Sunday since it's my only real day off. THANK YOU. I originally had a consultation with her for pink hair but changed my mind literally when I was already in the chair to do blue. I wasn't sure that she would have the Pinterest inspo colors on hand but SHE DID. #Bless I know that Pinterest photos are sometimes just wishful thinking but let me tell you she nailed the color I showed her. Like knocked it out of the park! The salon is in Downtown Manhattan and its so freakin cute down there. I parked and could see the beach from my parking spot. Gorgeous. Inside is such a vibe! Ridiculously clean which is so important during this scary germy time. (Ew covid.) Jess's vibe is so refreshing and I had the best time joking around with her even though I was probably talking too much. (Therapy is expensive, you understand. Haha) Since it was Sunday only one other stylist was there and he was a gem too! I think his name was Jay, either way LOVE HIM too! The music was upbeat and fun which really went along with my color dreams. Whatever products they use not only smell amazing but left my hair so soft and healthy even tho we bleached my hair first. Oh and they have cute little retail stuff, got the freaking cutest scrunchies and even a bling, bling face mask before I left. All in all, found my new hair guru. Totally will make the drive from Long Beach anytime. You guys are amazing! Thanks for putting a pep back in my step. Gonna take some more pics when I actually do my makeup! read more

I went to Jessica for color and trim. Actually, the "color" was waist-length highlights and she handled it perfectly. I know it's not always easy to deal with long hair and she did it beautifully and my hair came out fantastic! I am going back next week to get my hair "holiday" ready. I'd recommend her for any length of hair for color, styling, and frankly, as a hairstylist that cares about the condition of her client's hair. She kept mine tangle-free and wonderfully conditioned.
