very well organized by type of item and by time period. Great selection of 60's 70's and 80s. No vintage hats or gloves to be found the last time I was there. Great air conditioning and friendly staff. Dressing rooms are not the best but the pricing is great. Skip shoes altogether -not sized and many are tiny - shoe area is cramped and felt kind of dirty. Huge assortment of mens clothing as well as vintage bedding. Great selection of vintage slips. Make sure to bring coins to feed your meter. The inside is awesome, lots of cool stuff with reasonable prices. Very organized and clean, and lots of fitting rooms. I especially enjoyed that the women's dresses are sorted by period: 50s, 60s, etc. Its still a little overwhelming just because the place is so big... I would plan to spend a couple of hours so that you can find that perfect piece. I'm actually NOT a fan of the Sunday dollar sale at all... I got there 15 minutes after it started, and it looked like a riot was happening. People were throwing clothes everywhere, and lots of the clothes were being walked on or appeared damaged/dirty. Nothing was organized, and there wasn't even a blanket or plastic put down - the clothes were just sitting on the pavement. Oh, Jet Rag! The pretentiously stylish thrift shop that newbies want to venture into but hesitate before stepping through the threshold. For all the criticism I give this place when it comes to their unreasonably priced secondhand garb, they do it all in style and for that, I suppose you can charge whatever premium you want. It's all about style, isn't it? Why else do we Angelenos do what we do? Still, that is some gall you have for those price tags. There is a fine line between vintage and your mommy's hand-me-downs. We all know this to be true. I like this place overall. I have fond memories of their $1 piles on Sunday afternoons, where you comb through piles and piles of clothing under the LA sun and each piece is $1 regardless of what you find. It makes for some fun and purposeful treasure hunting, especially when you come upon a choice find. I hear the staff could use an attitude adjustment but what can you do. This extensive vintage shop in Hollywood has a huge selection of pretty well curated clothes and accessories spanning a wide range of genres and tastes. I come for the reasonably priced western shirts and t shirts. One critique: they sort they're t-shirts my color rather than size. I can scan visually for color; help me out and give me a section of shirts that will fit me. I can discern color without taking every shirt off the rack and looking at the tag. Prices are reasonable for staples and they have some nice signature pieces that go for what they're worth, which is to say quite a bit more. T-shirts are in the $10-20 range. I done mind paying a bit more fore hat you could get at Goodwill for a couple bucks. I'm not the kind to spent days browsing crap just to fine one gem. They have collected a nice assortment of gems for us. In, out, on my way. Don't miss the $1 sale in the parking lot on Sundays. Yeah, it's a lot of fishing through piles mercilessly laid right on the pavement in the parking lot, but there are some excellent bargains to be had. The staff has that slightly snooty record store vibe, but I kinda like that in this type of place. read more

I went there before a few years ago and vaguely remember being disappointed. I went back with higher expectations and was once again let down. But then again I went for the $1 sale at 4pm when I'm sure all the "good" stuff was gone. It was fun seeing my boyfriend try on $1 tacky blazers. We ventured inside and found a great scarf selection but no prices. I did find a black scarf for my halloween costume that I could have bought in downtown l.a. for $1. Instead I paid $6 for this used scarf. Whatever. I was too lazy to go anywhere else. The lady working seemed to have an attitude problem but I wasn't completely put-off. Oh well. I wouldn't mind going again but a lot earlier. read more

WOAH okay everyone who loves the $1 pile sale clearly hasn't been to one when its hot. That is one funky pile. Funky as in foul. Putrid. Rank. Smelly. Whatever it is, it is bad, like a really ripe, unwashed human. It is the pile of the proletariat. And, don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with the proletariat. But it all makes me wonder just where they got those clothes from and how many laundry cycles it would take for me to actually lay any of that stuff against my body...i might have to wash it all into oblivion, in which case even $1 isnt worth it. The stuff inside smells better, or maybe its just not in the sun, and they have a neat selection of accessories and various etcetera. Actually went here last March. Friends were having a Beatles themed wedding and encouraged everyone to dress like the swinging 60s. 1. $1 Sunday Sale- Brilliant! We got there a bit after lunch so the good stuff were gone -- and i didnt witness any sort of vintage-sale-savagery. I found a heavy yellow burlap dress with heavy silver zipper and pearl/sequin embellishments on the neckline. It was a L or XL but i figured for a $1 i might work something out. Also got a wild print NikNik shirt that husband refused to wear. It also stank of moth balls no amount of washing'd make it smell normal. 2. The $1 sale ended at 3 or 4 so after that we went into the store. 3. The place has 2 massive floors of everything from the 50s. The most striking selection would be the 60s and 70s clothes. They had skinny ties (which i got -- pricey tho, for something repro and NOT vintage) and suspenders and fedora hats you can get anywhere else for 50% cheaper at most. 4. Ended up buying a sweet little polyester light blue peasant dress with some embroidery at $18. BUT i kind of wish I bought something else a but more classic. Bah. No returns allowed in this store. All in all, I really enjoyed the organization of the whole store. They are organized by decade, color, style. Prices range from $18-25. The attendants are really cool; the Ramones looking dude (forgot his name) was super helpful when it came to choosing (and suggested altering) men's suits. I saw a powder blue suit and wish I could get it (i think it was$50?). They also have a whole range of women's accessories, jewery, stockings, shoes, bags, etc. I'd definitely come back. Im totally into freecycling, mixing and matching, penny-pinching and having a critical eye for classic fashion pieces. And people-watching some, err, cross-dressers. You can do all that here. It's great fun. PS. Funny thing is, for the wedding I didn't even wear anything I purchased in this store... decided to cut off a sleeves of an existing Lady Gaga-esque mini dress - slapped on belt, boots, beret. This is definitely one of the greatest vintage stores I have ever been to. They have a massive selection, small sizes, a huge variety, a 1$ bargain day on Sunday, and aren't too expensive compared to other vintage stores. You will definitely need more than an hour to dig through rack after rack. Friends and I ended up with around 15 items each to take into the dressing room. They also have a great selection of shoes, scarves, purses, jewelry, and vintage sunglasses. I haven't gone on a Sunday, but I've heard great things. Jet rag has a pretty good selection of vintage stuff, although a lot of it is on the cornball side. They have new accessories which are fun to browse, but I have never bought any. The $1 sale is not to be missed. Get there "early" and dig through some piles. You don't need to try it on, it's just a buck. Just drape it over your back and see if it touches your belt. Also, as an FYI for the fellas, you will end up picking up and eying some women's clothes in the pile. Don't freak out. The selection when walking in here was overwhelming at first, but really just digging into the racks was really the treasure. Found a lot of tops for less than $10 but really you can go for their one of a kind vintage steals like a Military-green Anorak and a plethora of gas masks reminiscent of Cold War time. Having just moved to Los Angeles from Brooklyn, I was sad to leave Beacon's Closet, my favorite vintage store, behind in the Empire State. I saw Jet Rag while driving down LaBrea, and as soon as I walked in I instantly fell in love. This place is huge and has an amazing selection of vintage dresses categorized by era/style. The prices are great, with most of the store falling below thirty or forty bucks. I bought a disco-style seventies purse for sixteen and a "sixties" dress (though I really think it was an eighties dress that some hormonal teenage girl made while drooling over P. Swayze in Dirty Dancing) for twenty-five. I have yet to hit up the $1 sale. Nobody I know is into digging through piles. read more

I have only visited this place once when I was over from Scotland, I thought it had a huge selection and something a little different from the other vintage shop's I'd been in that day. I disagree with a few people on it being over priced, I thought it was reasonable and cheaper than the other places I'd been. I'm just not a vintage store fan but my boyfriend is and he seemed to really liked this place! . I didn't like the staff taking my bag off me when we went in, it freaked me out a bit because my cash & cards etc were in it and the staff member was a little rude when I went back to collect my bag, that was my only issue with this place apart from that I would maybe visit again but it's not a must go place for me. The only slightly OK aspect about Jet Rag is their dollar sunday sales! I've gone once, sadly at about 2 pm which by then, the vultures had already hunted down the majority of good items LOL. But I still found a few nice shirts I guess. You have to get down on your knees and sort through piles of rags. I'm an avid thrifter, believe me. But the vibe of the dollar sale was too much even for me to handle. Inside the store though, not worth it. I came here thinking I could find deals inside the store too. How wrong I was! Literal crap that you could find at the mall. Isn't this stuff used? With the price tags some of the stuff has, you wouldn't think so! Nothing unique, cute, or worth the price tag they were trying to sell it for! They're definitely trying too hard to pass some stuff off as "vintage" naaah. I didn't buy it. There are definitely better thrift places in LA with waay better inventory and prices! Would not recommend the store itself. The dollar sale might be a fun experience though, for those of you who TRULY love the hunt of a potentially great find for a cheap price! read more

HEY JET RAG!! NOT EVERYONE STEALS!! Ladies and guys if your purse is more than 10 inches across (and yes they have a tape measure) Jet Rag will require you to check it at the front desk. The only suggestion from them was for me to put my purse in the car! Real smart in a city! So i had to walk around the store with my wallet keys and cell phone in my hand and pray I didn't put either down or I would have been in that store for the rest of my life looking for my stuff. Sucked! So maybe i would have forgotton about the aforementioned if the store was the sh*t but it was far from it. This store had surpassed the junky threshold and all the shoes were dusty and looked like they needed to go in the parking lot on Sunday for whatever thst $1 event that apparently happens. I visited the Beverly Hills Goodwill, Wasteland and Crossroads before this spot and purchased and was way more impressed with the stuff. Make this your LAST stop and don't bring a purse= skip it! read more

Over-glorified, Over-priced thrift store. There were some decent finds in the vintage dress section.... But anything I liked, I would've had to adjust or alter to my liking, and everything was just priced too high to justify doing so. I was also surprised at the shoe section. It's been years since I've had the time off to come for "dollar Sundays", but venturing back in today, I was reminded what fun vintaging in LA can be. I went in with purpose today as Jet Rag was the former home of my favorite grey cowboy boots, and it's time to find their replacement as I've nearly completely worn through the soles of these babies. Though today's trip wasn't a success, it wasn't from lack of options - the boutique has a bigger variety of boots than most specialty shoe stores. The staff was very nice a girl with tattoos and piercings asked me to check in my bag and I respect their policy of not having my bag and I asked if I could remove some things because I'm on travel and couldn't afford to lose my ID and plane ticket and camera which is a huge part of my career, I have really bad anxiety so small things that don't bother normal people make me crazy and I worry excessively. So the owner I'm assuming the old man with white hair was EXTREMELY RUDE and made a passive aggressive comment about me taking the things out my bag saying to the girl that checked them in that "I wouldn't trust you with my bags up here either" this review isn't a reflection of their store I liked the store itself but the owner or older gentlemen's behavior! During my visit also he was rude to an employee he reprimanded her in front of customers and called her stupid to another employee which is just awful and lack of respect for a life I'm so upset he talked to her that way over the hangers not facing a certain way. I'm all down for vintage clothing, but most of the stuff here I would wear to Rubix cubes parties or soirees that require fancy things like fur coats that you can afford to get wine (or Jager) stains on. Then again, a lot of the stuff IS slightly overpriced. However, I do admire the vast selection of stuff and color coordination. Well, I admit I haven't been to the $1 Sundays, but I'll work on that. i normally don't leave negative reviews but i really did not enjoy my experience in this store. right when i walked in, an employee asked for my purse and i gave it to him. i'm assuming this was an anti-shoplifting policy. even though it's a very nice purse and i have a sentimental attachment to it, i didn't have an issue with the employee's request until noticed that many other people in the store still had their purse!! if they must enforce this rule, i think it's important that they enforce it for everyone. when i asked for my purse back, the woman was very short with me. overall, not a good time. read more

Humungous selection of vintage clothes. Not all of them are great or even good. But give it a shot if your on melrose. Prices are pretty decent, and this place has huge potential, but every time I go here I leave empty handed.... And they have parking! All of 3 spaces in front....wow. The jacket selection is pretty damn nice though. And my fingers are crossed that the next time I come here I'll find something amazing. read more

Went yesterday for the Dollar Sunday... thankfully my friend and I went after 11 or so, so we didn't experience the mad grab for used threads. It really is a mixed bag, and you will have to poke around the piles, but if you're persistent you can find something of good quality - and you can't beat a dollar per piece! I found five articles of clothing myself, and am quite satisfied with my haul. read more

Come here on Sunday mornings for their $1 yard sale. Yes I said $1. Piles and piles of clothes are throw out in front of the store and every item is only $1. Get ready to dig! If you come later in the day after 11am it'll be less crowded with hipsters and such. Street parking is unfortunately not free on La Brea on Sundays. Make sure you fill up your meter. I'd say most of the stuff in the store is a little too expensive for my wallet, but everything is nicely organized and clean. read more

Me love Jet Rag BIG TIME. The store is HUGE. I could fit a dozen elephants in here with no problem. That's good and bad. Good because that means they have a big selection (probability wise, it's impossible not to find something good). Bad because that means you'll be there for an hour at least, wading through all their stuff. Their dress selection is great. But they never have anything in my size in dresses :( I got one of my favorite pieces of clothing here - a Harley jacket - for $17!! Jet Rag for Halloween is just about the best place I can find for affordable accessories or ideas for those of us who put off finding a costume until the last moment. I used to come here more when I was in my "thrift store clothes are cool!" phase of life, and I am not a regular visitor, but when I need cheap random stuff and I don't want to go on a citywide search, Jet Rag has always delivered. Their parking situation is quite obnoxious sometimes (I usually end up parallel parking at some meter on La Brea - which seems to cheer up the people driving behind me ... they're so happy they usually honk), and I don't really enjoy their $1 Sundays, but overall, I think Jet Rag is pretty solid. read more

Jet Rag is a vintage shop and conveniently located on Fairfax. Call me lucky: I never seem to have a problem with street parking. The shop is huge.. Everything is neatly organised by colour. It may not be the least expensive vintage shop in LA but they do have an interesting selection and I have found many nice pieces here. On Sunday they have the 1 dollar sales and have huge piles outside. You will see people jump in as soon as the place opens and some people truly manage to find little gems. Really good selection here but stuff is a bit overpriced and the staff is rude. My friend spent $250 here and yet the cashier wasn't friendly and didn't ask about our shopping experience. No matter the amount of money someone spends here they should be greeted with kindness and asked if they need help finding anything. The workers need a lesson on customer service. read more
