The awning outside Jeunju shows they've been open since 1985 and it only took me 40 years to try. I was turned on to this place by a Korean co-worker that mentioned he comes here for the noodles - that it is an OG place. Say less. I'm there. Jeunju is easy to spot with its current hot pink exterior. I thought this was the original color, but it looks like it was recently painted this color. Wasn't hot pink trendy in the 80s? The interior is not particularly fancy - it is down to earth. It is very easy to over order here just from vast amount of banchan they bring out (I counted 8 dishes on our table). Just ordering one dish will do it haha. Despite this you will probably be tempted since they have many delicious dishes. (note: They will happily pack any food you order, but please don't ask to pack the banchan. It's tacky) I enjoyed the mandu with their silky soft wrapper and delicious filing (they could have been put together a little better, a couple weren't sealed fully). Their hand torn noodle with its light anchovy broth is money - the clam version is my go to. The pork back bone stew comes with large meaty chunks of its namesake. The stew is thickened with perilla leaf that goes great with the spice. I enjoyed the roasted pork belly with oysters - they oysters come shucked in a bowl. I would have preferred if they were kept colder. The pork belly is meant to be eaten Ssam style with the cabbage and lettuce provided. This dish could easily feed 4. If you want something smaller try the pork wrap set where the pork is served spicy style and comes with a side of tofu soybean stew. For me, an easy 5 stars for the longevity, the friendly servers, the homey classic Korean dishes served here - it's what I want to see continue to thrive in NYC.
I ordered delivery, and overall I really enjoyed the food. My only complaint was that the grilled beef tripe was a very small portion for the price. Also, despite its name, the spicy beef soup could have used a bit more heat. That said, the flavors were excellent across the board. I'd definitely stop by if I'm ever in the neighborhood.
My friend and I were trying to eat at a nearby Korean restaurant that was listed as 24/7. She works overnight shifts and we both wanted Korean food for breakfast. Turns out the other spots wasn't open 24 hours. Luckily for us we wandered to this spot. We were the only non Koreans at 8:30am on a Monday...which meant this was a legit spot. We were greeted promptly and told that they only had an abbreviated menu in the morning. The waitress recommended the spicy short rib soup. She was so friendly and made sure we were comfy. We happily ordered 2 since it was a chilly damp morning. Hot tea came out and a few minutes later, banchans and our bubbling soups came out. The soup was outstanding. It was so flavorful and the meat was so soft. It honestly hit the spot. I can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu. The best part was the entire meal was only $21 before tip!

I heard they were known for their knife cut noodles so will try that next time. I also got the bibimbap but it was very wet and not crispy so I wouldn't recommend this dish. The side dishes were good and the nice lady / owner asked if we needed refills. Loved their kimchi. Service was great and payment is same for card or cash.
soooo good! some of the best korean food i've had in nyc. loved their perilla stew, kalguksu, mandu, and bossam! service was efficient. we did not make reservations but were able to walk in on a friday.
So worth the trek! We got the seafood panjeon to share, along with some seafood udon. The banchan were quite good, and more than anything this just feels like a homey environment with cozy food that isn't trying to cater to various audiences.

You can tell it's a local favorite since it was a random Wednesday afternoon and was still decently packed with middle aged Korean folks. The aunties serving were super sweet. I had the seaweed and oyster soup and my friend had a tofu stew. Both were delicious.
Finally. I've found the holy grail of classic homestyle authentic Korean food in the area and I couldn't be happier. My stomach is basically smiling right now, what a satisfying dinner. Every single banchan dish was so good and fresh, not the overpriced mass produced stuff you find in Hmart but the food you'd find made by your mom or auntie at home. On top of all the deliciousness, the prices are very very fair. Really a hidden gem and I'm so happy we found it. Delivery edit: I want to add that I'm 90% sure they give different banchan for delivery, the quality when we order delivery of the banchan is significantly lower than what we got in the restaurant. Like we've ordered delivery probably 3x now and haven't gotten any fresh tofu banchan and they just seem like older stuff that's been sitting in a fridge rather than the fresh amazing things we got in the restaurant. Makes sense financially I suppose but keep that in mind if you order delivery.
Walking into the fridge in cold weather, I was craving soup. I decided to walk in and give it a try, and I am so happy I did. It's a neighborhood joint. People smile at you when you walk in. There are so many stew /soup/noodle soups to choose from. And they have pictures all over one side of the wall. The Gamjatang soup and Hae Mul Pa jeon were rich and delicious. The portion sizes are good. The service was very friendly. very reasonable price. This is my new fav for Korean stew and soup

What a lovely find! This is a small local restaurant with mainly locals visiting. The lady was extremely friendly and helpful. Whereas the food is not as flavorful as the other restaurants in the area, the food feels homey, healthier and warms the soul. I had a spicy beef soup and the beef was sooo tender! Also had the seafood pancake which had a good portion of seafood and was slightly crunchy. The banchan was also nice - with potatoes and a pork rib!

The portions are nice and big and it also comes with yummy banchan. We got the bossam, gamjatang, and seafood kalguksu. The bossam was so good - it comes with oyster and the oyster together with the pork belly in the ssam is exquisite. Definitely a favorite among the group. I also loved the flavor of the broth of the seafood kalguksu and how hearty it was. I definitely recommend this place. The lady who took our order and maybe was the owner was very kind and attentive and also appreciated how kind the service was.

Ratings: Dumpling soup 8/10 Big, juicy, soft skinned dumplings in light savory broth Grilled Mackerel + Soybean paste stew 7/10 Very crispy mackerel, some fish oil flavor, good portion size for the money. It comes with a sauce that really enhances the flavor of the fish and covers up the fish oil flavor. The soybean stew is a little spicy if you need some extra flavor. Spicy Beef soup 7/10 Decent portion size and good flavor and texture for the beef, but not a lot of beef. Korean style egg omelet 7/10 Eggs were light and airy with clean flavor but without seasoning and spices like the other dishes. Use sauce or eat with soup/stew to balance it out.
I came here and ended up having one of the best bowls of sujebi I've ever had, the broth alone deserves its own review. Rich, comforting, and incredibly clean-tasting without being heavy. The bossam was also a delicious. It was tender, flavorful, and perfect with the sauces and banchan, which were all fresh and well balanced. We also tried the octopus and pork with rice, which was super satisfying and packed with flavor. Honestly, everything we ordered worked really well together, but the sujebi and bossam completely stole the show. I would come back just for that sujebi, no hesitation. Small Mom and Pop restaurant located in the Murray Hill section of Queens. It probably seats around 30 people so it's not a very large restaurant. The food in the portions are pretty affordable and tasty. You can definitely see that it's more home cooking rather than the flashy Korean food that you see on Instagram. I enjoyed my pork with lettuce wrap as well as the appetizers. The mandu was excellent, so was the seafood pancake.. I had ordered it as a set menu and it came with a simple tofu stew. read more

10/10 always hits!! Especially on a cold winter day there's so many stews and soups and noodle dishes to choose from. The prices are also so VALUE and the service is always friendly. My bf always orders the gamjatang and I always get the gukbap!! Both are piping hot so be careful of the roof of your mouth and tongue. If you want it less spicy just ask! Too yummy to gatekeep!!! read more

Came on a cold day that was perfect for warm soup. I came at around 3:30pm, so there wasn't anyone inside, and some of the staff were eating lunch. People trickled in during my time there though. Banchan was good. My favorite was the tofu. It was firm and flavorful. You can ask for refills if you want more. Gamjatang was exactly what I needed as I felt a little under the weather. The slight spice cleared my sinuses. The hot soup warmed my insides. It was rich and savory, and I want to say fermented. The portion is also huge. There was a lot of pork. A lot of people were coming in for their gamjatang or samgyetang. A very satisfying, home-cooked meal. Murray Hill is quite a trek, but it's worth a try. read more

Food: very authentic korean food. Kalguksu was handmade and very chewy texture. The spicy pork jjim had a very country style authentic taste. Mixed with rice at the end with all the sauce was super yummy too! Seafood pajeon was pretty good too. Service: very attentive. Gave aprons for people who had white shirts on and always asked if we needed refill on banchan etc. Overall - would definitely come back and probably a regular in my rotation of korean restaurants. read more
3 things about this place: 1) Heard great things on Yelp and wanted to try this place out while I was visiting from Florida. This is a chain restaurant that is also located in New Jersey and wanted to see what the hype was all about. The lady who served me and my sister was really friendly and very outgoing. She kept asking how everything was and if we needed something else. Small restaurant but everything was excellent. 2) Seafood pancake, Hangover soup and Fish cake soup were ordered and they were both fantastic and felt like we were both eating in Korea. The side dishes were also great, especially the radish kimchi that went well with the soups. Great quality and great service. 3) This place is known for their knife cut noodles, where there are variety types you can choose from such as seafood, clams, vegetable broth, and even anchovy broth. If you're not into the noodles, other rice dishes and soups available and they were fantastic. Overall, I'm definitely coming back when I visit Flushing, NY and will be one of my go to spots while I'm here. I've ordered from Jeunju several times and it has never disappointed once. At this point, it's probably the place I order from the most, but I don't get tired of it because they have so many different dishes. They also give a lot of ban chan, which changes for every meal. Some of my favorite things to order from them include Soft Tofu Soup with Seafood, Pork Wrap Set, and LA Galbi & Soybean Paste Stew. I've also had their Grilled Mackerel and Grilled Hairtail Fish sets, and both come with Soybean Paste Stew. The portions at this place is great and I'm excited to order more from here. read more
What an amazing find! I was feeling under the weather and was looking for a place that has Korean chicken ginseng soup (Samgye-tang). I've never had it before but I know it has restorative and nourishing benefits. The soup is usually not seasoned while being cooked. It's served with salt and pepper on the side, so each person can season the broth to taste and use the remainder to dip the meats in. It was very healthy! My fiancé ordered the gamjatang. It's also our first time having it. And wow, it was phenomenal! Gamja-tang is a pork back-bone stew. It often contains potatoes, cellophane noodles, dried radish greens, perilla leaves, green onions, hot peppers and ground sesame seeds. The pork falls off the bone so easily. The stew was perfectly flavored! Very welcoming and friendly staff! Checks on us very often to see if there's anything else we need. Will definitely come back soon!! read more

Copying over from my Google review: Absolutely delicious, it feels like I'm visiting family during the holidays with how friendly the staff is. The tofu banchan was delicious, I've never had dubujorim with soondubu. I'd also want a jar of their radish kimchi if I could! I ordered the mukeunji with pork back bone and it was a pleasant surprise how big the portion was even though it was for one person! I'll definitely crave it when I want something with rice. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu! read more

Came here with a couple of other friends and was quite disappointed with the food we got, the flavor was lacking in all the dishes we tried. Starting with the seafood pancake, there were barely any pieces of seafood and the pancake was very doughy not crispy or crunchy. Their seafood noodles wasn't that flavorful too, a bit bland imo, if you're looking for better seafood noodles and pancakes try arirang on 163st. That place never disappoints. My friend tried the gamjatang and that was very thick and interesting, not what we expected. We also got the LA kalbi and soybean paste soup, kalbi was just average and skippable. Try something else if you're here. We all left kinda disappointed after the meal. Service was great and friendly staff, I just wished the food was better. read more

Hidden gem. I love the aunties here!!! Price is affordable for a hearty meal that reminds you of home. Hadnt eaten Korean food in a while, and this place really made me feel like home. There's something about non-super fancy Korean restaurants. It's like they have a brand. They're always going to be good, you're never going to make a bad choice. The atmosphere's always going to be friendly and light, and the people will for sure be courteous and attentive. The food here is terrific and never overcooked, which I feel like Korean chain restaurants tend to be. I'm not Korean but this invoked a homey feel in me of comfort food. read more

Definitely a hidden gem!!! Food is excellent and has that great homemade vibe. Went there for "bokil", one of the 3 days where Koreans eat super nutritious meals to survive the hot summer days. I loved how tasty everything was with that home cooked-mom-or-grandma-made-it taste. Definitely will be going back to eat through the whole menu!!!! read more

Underrated local Korean comfort food with plenty of Korean regular customers. Super cozy and family owned. They can help with recommendations with the owner knowing English. Food is comforting and tastes home cooked with love. Come for all the noodle soups and many specialty dishes. @ ban chan (9/10) - amazing selection of fresh kimchi, fish cake, peppers, bamboo shoots, squash, radish, etc. All spicy and refreshing accompaniments to the meal @ dumpling soup (10/10) - my favorite dish, and I usually dislike dumplings. They are fat and full of juicy savory filling, floating delicately in a mild soup. So comforting and filling @ noodles in soup (?/10) - my sister really enjoys the noodles in soup, I don't see what's so special but it's comforting and the noodles are freshly made. @ fried hairtail fish (6.5/10) - delicious fish, interesting unique menu item, great with rice, care for bones @ speciality eel dish (5/10) - little chunks of tiny eel, cooked in a spicy paste with vegetables, a bit burnt, strong muddy earthy flavor, not for everyone but I'm glad I got to try it tl;dr definitely more people have to come here, staff are super nice and helpful, food is comforting, super local spot read more
I got the tofu sujebi which was way spicier than I expected. Beware if you have gastritis or Gerd. I shuda asked for a mild version. The 1st taste immediately burned my stomach. 1 of the employees seemed to be scared of me since I was wearing green lipstick. I'm not an alien. It's just lipstick. Idk why Asians hate "unnatural" lipstick colors so much. If you can wear green clothes & green eyeshadow, why not lipstick? I don't understand why adults think green, purple, gray, blue & black lipstick is scary. read more
