    Abalone Rice Porridge :]

Amazing rice porridge place. It's as traditional as it can get. The several times I've been there it has never really been busy (since most people usually do take out). For those who have never been here, when you walk in, there will usually be nobody there to seat you. So, just go to a table and sit yourself down. They'll realize that you're there and bring you menus. The price is a bit on the steeper side when it comes to rice porridge, but it is definitely worth the extra dollars. From the several types I've tasted, I would definitely go with the Abalone Rice Porridge. Abalone is somewhat of a prized possession (for Koreans) when it comes to seafood. So, it explains the $16.95 price tag on the dish. The tray comes out with a huge bowl, three s (side dishes) consisting of kimchi (spicy fermented cabbage)/pieces of marinated beef in soy sauce/ (pickled squid), a refreshing bowl of radish/pear soup, and a small bowl with extra rice porridge (the one you ordered). Since the side dishes are bit more flavorful and salty, it goes nicely with the rice porridge. The small bowl is usually used, since the big bowl takes longer to cool off. So, if you don't want to burn every inch of the insides of your mouth, the small bowl is there for you to take small portions from the big bowl. I promise it's useful. Also, there are no other food items that aren't rice porridges, so keep in mind that this restaurant only carries rice porridges on their menu. An added bonus is that there is a (Korean side dish) shop right next to the restaurant. So, once you're finished, you can visit that place to shop for a variety of different side dishes. They're all delicious for a very good price. I believe it's 30 percent off after 7 PM. But, they do sell out fast (especially the rice cakes). The only downside to the restaurant would be parking. But, when isn't that the downside to all the restaurants in the Flushing/Queens area? So, if you can overlook that, then this place is a go-to. Why? Well, I've never really liked rice porridge...and now I'm writing a review about a restaurant that only carries rice porridges. Yeap. Enjoy!

Thank the lawd almighty for this place when I had the flu! I went around ALL the spots near this area and no one had Juk. They all told me to come here and I'm glad I did. This place feels family run but the ambiance and quality of food is top notch. I asked for chicken and veggie Juk, which wasn't on their menu and they happily accommodated. They also priced it the same as one of their similar dishes, which also made me happy. I was able to eat twice off from only one serving of Juk. I'm so glad there is a spot that serves traditional Juk that reminds me of Umma's cooking. Prices may deter some folks away but you have to think about quality and the actual costs of the business! Is it worth it? Yes.

Not much to say about rice porridge. But if you like Korean porridge, this is the place to go in NYC.

There's 2 waitresses and one busser, but I felt only one of the waitress was pulling the weight, while the other (maybe she's the owner?) mostly chatted with one of the table customers. I felt bad for our waitress she was so busy with fulfilling takeouts + dine ins and the dishes require a lot of servicing table side. She couldn't catch 1 second of break :( Food wise, we got their 2 person combo of spicy pork gamja tang and spicy rice cake which came with the steamed egg. Everything was so good, egg was extra fluffy, rice cake was delicious and the meat came right off the bones. They take a good variety of side dishes. My partner wasn't a fan of the gamja tang but due to feeling it's a hassle to eat meat with bones, so those who fee sim may agree. We also asked for the fried rice after we finished the gamja tang, for 2 servings I think it was $4.75 or something. I really enjoyed it but I guess I like scorched rice, also something my partner doesn't enjoy so those we feel sim just note. Environment feels very old school, well worn. Feels cozy. It can get loud very quickly on a Saturday night as this place seems to be a hit for large parties. Since the wait staff is short handed, expect a bit of a wait for things. Don't come if you're in a rush.

It was featured in Parts…read moreUnknown Season 9, Episode 4 (Queens), where he dined here with chefs Josh Smookler and Cosme Aguilar. Geo Si Gi is highly known for their signature gamjatang (spicy pork bone soup). Ordered the Gamjatang & Grilled Mackerel Set - $52.95 (for 2) The gamjatang is perfectly spiced - bold and warming without overwhelming heat (and trust me, my spice tolerance is low!). Instead of the usual red kimchi, they load it with long strips of green napa cabbage, cut right before your eyes before serving. Some bean sprouts, watercress on top, with tender potatoes, chewy rice cakes, and massive pork bones that fall right off - so meaty and flavorful. Served with a side of sweet mustard sauce. Pure comfort on a cold day. The grilled mackerel was enormous and incredibly plump - way bigger than expected! As an oily fish, it's rich and satisfying, but we barely made it through a third. If you're a mackerel fan like me, it's a must-order. . Banchan were simple and homey: nothing flashy, just solid classics. Bonus: it comes with fluffy steamed egg (jjim) that rounds out the meal perfectly. I can eat an entire bowl of rice with just the steamed egg . This set was massive for two - we left with about 1/4 of the soup and 2/3 of the fish! Pro tip: Save some broth and ask them to make fried rice with it at the end. Game-changer. . Highly recommend for hearty, soul-warming Korean food in Flushing!

We were a group of 6 and came to Daori for some Korean BBQ. They're located on a residential street but next to several other stores and restaurant. We were surprised to see that they had TV's which was great since the World Cup final was playing. We are told the Iberico pork was the star here. We ordered several other dishes as well. The pork was indeed very good. My only comment was that the waitress seemed very stressed and frazzled. She was stressing about cooking the food and some of it was getting overcooked but also our banchan didn't get refilled because of it. Their English is also not great so there were times when we had a tough time communicating. I would say overall the food was good and we had a good time. It was also very reasonably priced. After tips, it was only $64 per person. We'll definitely come again.
