a sale sign on a shelf in a store

If there was a lower rating than 1, they would definitely earn that. I went in for a couple of items. The problems started with the rude cashier, Estella, who basically just wanted to scan my items and get rid of us to move on to the next customer maybe? I mentioned that the coffee was ringing up $3.00 more and I couldn't get their digital code to work. Estella basically said, "oh well" the price is $9.99 then. When I questioned how I could get it to work, she took off one of the two coffee's from my bill and told me to go to customer service. Okay. Well, Anthony at Customer Service looked at me like I had 3 eyes. He told me it was my phone that wasn't working and his worked fine. Great, but I can't get it to work. He just stared at me. I said, how about you use your phone then. No response (just staring). He scanned it with his phone and said, it worked fine and came up for him and then continued to just stare at me. In the meantime another customer waiting for customer service scanned my coffee and the wrong brand came up. Hello Anthony, learn your products. I finally asked for a manager. Marie (the manager was even more rude than Anthony and Estella) which I didn't think could be possible. She went to the coffee isle, came back, and said, "I will honor the price" but it is wrong". I said, how is it wrong. Marie wouldn't respond. I had a picture of their sign and she stomped off saying it was wrong and she would fix it. We figured out later, what Marie was rudely trying to say without words is that the store screwed up and marked down Maxwell House versus Folgers. Marie handed us off to Jackie B, who rudely stated. You owe us $4.08. She was just as rude. So after wasting about 30 minutes of our time, trying to get the price quoted on their coffee and dealing with 4 very rude, disrespectful employees, I finally got my coffee. This is the first negative review I have written. If you want to be treated with respect and friendliness, STAY AWAY FROM THIS LOCATION. I will be sending a letter to their corporate office, with a courtesy copy to their store. Unbelievable!

It is a decent store overall. It serves it's purpose which is to supply the immediate neighborhood with groceries in a pinch. The prices are higher than Marianos down the street, but Jewel has turned into basically a convenience store with a pharmacy. The fried chicken is crap. They allow it to sit out for hours and still sell it. If you don't get it fresh out of the fryer, you're likely getting chicken jerky because it's been sitting there so long that it has hardened and lost all moisture under the heat lamps. The deli meat selection is good. The cheese selection is decent. The fresh fruit selection is seriously lacking. If you want to pay more for your groceries or want chicken jerky from what should be moist fried chicken, shop here. Otherwise drive down the street to Mariano's.

This place isn't the greatest. The parking lot sucks. The variety is good. The aisles are small and the people are pushy.

They rather stand around and say self-checkout is open. People know about self-checkout, clearly guest will rather go through the regular check out. Those males they have over there in the deli have ruined the quality of the hot or cooked items over there. I've heard a customer request the $1 item and they said there wasn't any more they'd have to cook them, THEN turned and said they wouldn't have time. They stand back there moving so slow it's unbelievable. The one guy with the real thick glasses has a real nasty attitude. Every time a woman asks for something he's speaking under his breath about them. I hear because I stand a wait for another guy to come available because I never want to deal with him and he speaks negatively of the customers because they have request. Personally, I decided to just go to other locations or other stores, if I want something from the deli. The store is clean, but it be so crowded.

A line for grocery store fried chicken? Absolute cinema. People have been recommending I get into fried chicken reviews, and I've resisted as I really don't want to get fat, but this was the perfect storm to start a grocery store fried chicken review journey. I got to the front in the line and felt like a fish out of water. I sheepishly asked the employees, Darius R and Damariea J, what the move was as it was my first time getting fried chicken from here. I thought they'd be annoyed, but they were so helpful and welcoming. "Today is actually wing bucket Friday! A whole bucket is normally $17.99 but today it's $9.99. I can give you some of everything so you can try, but the spicy wings are my favorite." Hell yeah. Darius was the MAN. I took my tissi and wing bucket to the UIC campus for consumption. The tissi was a brick and landed at a 6/10, which currently ranks it 71st out of 94 grocery store birds I've tried, but the fried chicken was INSANE. Darius wasn't lying, the spicy wings were next level. The best grocery store chicken I've ever had. Boomin the Publix fried chicken. Shoutout to the Darius' and Damariea's of the world. Good people. As always, I am looking for new fantastic restaurants, and stores to try out, and share with: family, friends, and on Yelp. As you walk in it seems like a common corner store, groceries in the front, meat towards the rear. When I walked to the back I had a pretty good hunch this would be a great one. The fresh smell, it was very clean, and the amazing eye catching signage. You could feel like you just walked into in a sweet little store in Mexico. When they handed me the food I ordered I knew was on the right track. When I took my first bites I smiled, and knew, I needed to share this place. I was intrigued by the Pozole Verde sign out front. I had never had it before, so I placed my order for that and zero regrets. It comes out in a quart container with a plastic wrapped foam tray with: chopped onions, cilantro, radish, shredded cabbage, and mexican oregano. I added mostly everything but went easy on the oregano. The chunks of chicken were tender and not overcooked. The hominy and vegetables were just right as well. They have this to a science and it has to be near perfect. Now to the tacos: As you often see in neighborhood grocery stores the chorizo was hanging in back above the meat counter, so a house made chorizo taco was a given. The Al Pastor was reccomend by the one of the butchers, and I had a steak taco to round it, and myself, out. All I can say is that like the pozole everything was superb. Even the salsas.. I wish I knew of this place when I worked and lived in the area. I would definitely have known everyone there by name. I still smile thinking of it, and next time I'm in that hood, I will be there. I look forward to trying out a few more menu items, and picking up some of the fresh meat. So maybe don't slap Grandma... but you should at least pick her up and take her out to lunch here. Enjoy! #AlfieEats
