I rarely shop at this Mariano's, but after my experience today, I am extremely disappointed. My sister and I went to the self-checkout and were completing two separate transactions. The employee initially asked if we were doing two transactions, which I had no issue with and understood. However, after I completed the first transaction, she questioned whether I had paid for my orange juice, even though it had already been included in my purchase. She then asked to see my receipt and snatched it out of my hand, which felt very disrespectful. What made the interaction even more upsetting was that she was only paying close attention to us the entire time. There were several other WHITE customers using self-checkout at the same time, and she did not ask to see any of their receipts or question whether they had paid for their items. My sister and I are both young-looking and have a brown appearance, and the clear difference in how we were treated compared to other customers made us feel racially profiled and singled out because of our age and appearance. I understand employees have a job to do and may need to verify purchases, but that should be done fairly and respectfully with all customers. This experience made us feel unwelcome, and I hope management takes this seriously and ensures customers are treated equally going forward. read more

Stopped in to the best pharmacy and staff on the planet. At pickup the pharmacist took the time to explain IN DETAIL what the scripts were for and how to properly use them. I had one of my favorite meals in the past 3 years here. Mariano's stores have a classy vibe. They exude an aura of quality. Their stores have an excellent ambiance. When I walk in, I notice the stores are well-organized with phenomenal displays. I value that Mariano's stores typically have a wide variety and selection. I have appreciated the ability to obtain prepared foods at Mariano's, including delicacies like sushi. I have found other great prepared foods at Mariano's that I enjoyed a lot, e.g,. succulent beef pot roast. It is fantastic that Mariano's have self checkout kiosks, which can help with convenience. There are also a significant number of Mariano's stores in Chicagoland. read more

I didn't post about my bad experience last time because I was giving them a chance to prove I was wrong. Two days ago I picked up my grocery order, and it will be the last time I shopped at the store, Park Ridge is seven more minutes down the street and they have intelligent workers. Mariano's charged me $2.99 for an expired milk which clearly had a label on it reduced to $1.35 well who the hell wants to buy expired milk? They gave me moldy old strawberries, my bread was smashed, the green pepper and onion in my bag were moldy and rotten. What is wrong with these people, in my world it's because they don't give a shit. I will give Mariano's credit as you can go on the app and instantly receive a refund, but it's not the point. read more

We had a miserable experience on Saturday, September 6. Multiple aisles were half empty as staff was moving items to change the aisle. As a result, signage was down, making it difficult to find your groceries. I can understand the need to change things. But on a busy Saturday? Why not make the changes on a Monday night. On a Saturday you could use the staff for other purposes. More on that to come.... After too much difficulty locating our items, we got in checkout line 4. We were the fourth in line. The cashier took 20 minutes to ring up shopper #1. I looked into changing register lanes, but each of the three had at least 8 customers in line. When I was finally next, the manager told me not to place my items on the conveyor yet. She then proceeded to remove the scanner/scale mechanism, play with it, and put it back. She looked at my cart with the fresh vegetables and told me to go to aisle 5. Aisle 5 was cluttered with half full shopping carts and disused cardboard display shelves. The manager walked to Aisle 5 as if to open the register. I waited, and she looked at me with a curious expression. I reminded her she told me to go to this one, aisle 5. She said, "No, go to aisle 3". There were now 10 angry customers in line at Aisle 3, and the manager wanted me to go to the end of the line after waiting all this time to be first in line at register 4. The store was dirty, cluttered, and disorganized. Many aisles had no overhead signage. There were only 3 cashiers open, but one had a broken scanner/scale mechanism. All on a busy Saturday. I remember when Mariano's first opened with impeccably clean stores and a full staff to service customers. It was my favorite grocery store for years. Then Kroger took over, and now we are witnessing the decline. I left my full cart in the floral area for one of their non-existent employees to put away. I wasted over an hour of my Saturday. I can overlook a lot. I cannot abide you wasting my time. No more Mariano's for me. I'm going back to the "JEWELS". read more

I just spent $20.15 for ribeye steak bone in, asked to have it cooked medium rare. When I got home less then ten minutes later I opened a well done steak. Called manager told her I was not happy. Said I would have to drive back and they would recook. Family was waiting for me to eat. I was not going to drive back and wait another twenty minutes for new steak. 08/23/20 - I love Mariano's. I feel like the quality of the stores are much better, cleaner and better stocked them their predecessor Dominicks. They also rank above Jewel which is usually very dated FYI - Mariano's has reopened their hot food & salad bar post Covid shutdown. They have limited hours from 10:30am - 1:30pm & 4pm - 7pm. The item selection has been pared down a little & they have a staff member monitoring the area to prevent morons from drinking soup w/serving ladle and putting it back in and scooping again w/the same scoop. ADDENDUM - The opening of the salad bars isn't at all Mariano's as I found out this morning w/my local Mariano so CALL IN ADVANCE IF YOU'RE GOING FOR THE SALAD IR HOT BAR I for one am ecstatic about having the salad bar reopened as I really missed this during the height of the Covid shutdown. This was one of my favorite grocery stores back in Chicago. I miss it so much now that I'm not in Illinois. I do try to shop there when I'm back in town. Very good and fresh products. Good prices and many on sale. The salad bar is the best. BBQ Pork Ribs or pizza are made at every store and are delicious. The service is not bad. Always a good shopping experience especially since it was 5 min drive from my house. read more

I have been going to this store for several years and always enjoyed shopping there until recently. The first turn off was when they switched their paper bags to no handles. They still offer paper bags but no handles and they tear by the time I get them in the house so they are pretty useless. I have found that the prices they show lots of times ring up differently at the check out. I have had to go to Customer Service several times for this. Today, as I was checking out I had 3 peppers that were listed as 3 for $5.00. The woman at the register took each one out of the plastic bag and rang it up. I asked if they were 3 for $5.00. Her response was that she had to ring them up separately as they were different colors. I asked her about 3 times if they rang up at 3 for $5.00 and she ignored me. The last time I asked she got a bit upset and said "everything is fine".. I was asking a simple question and I am the customer and have a right to know. There was no reason for her to respond the way she did as I was not disrespectful. My son knew I liked this store so much he would purchase a visa card for me at Christmas from them.. Mariano's always had a great selection of foods you typically find only in specialty stores. Their pricing is better than Whole Foods, but tends to be on the higher end. Compared to Jewel, they are miles ahead. This visit was for a COVID shot. After hours of trying to find a location with appointments, we were lucky enough to score a time at this location. Admittedly, I've never used a grocery store pharmacy. The pharmacist was nice and pleasant, and seemed very caring. Because of the way they scheduled appointments, we got right in without any wait. The other thing I particularly like about Mariano's, in general, is they have a great Vegan selection. While not a vegan, I can't have anything with Milk products. Their selection of vegan cheeses, butters, etc., is among the best in the area. read more

I have been coming here for about 3 years now and the employees make sure that everything is always neatly organized. Also, I have never come across a fruit or a vegetable that was expired. Their gelato ice cream tastes fresh and it's delicious. My go to flavors are Nutella, cookies and cream and strawberry. They also have great food, were you can carry out or eat there. When I go in Sunday's they have great specials in chicken. They do have to work on their bread, they leave out and ty to sell the stale pieces. Some of the wine is overpriced too were it's best to get it from another store. Also, their flowers are higher priced compared to jewel or other boutiques. They do have a juice/smoothies bar were they make them right in front of you using the freshest ingredients. Overall, Mariano's is a nice grocery store to go to. read more

The meal at Mariano's is fantastic! Very tasty and beautifully prepared, with a large selection to choose from. I enjoy the service here, and the chef is always so polite with the customers and constantly strives to provide the highest quality! This is a place that  I strongly suggest. I had such a nice dinner experience here, it's worth the price and definitely  a memorable dinner date for me. We went here to eat our dinner and I did not regret choosing this resto cause it gives good quality service to everyone. I am having second thoughts to be honest at first if we will go here cause we just saw this place online and we were just reading some reviews if it's really good. Where could you go to find everything you need in one place. Pricing may be higher than other places. Clean and well maintained environment. You can pick up cakes and desserts for the family and birthday parties or any special occasion at the last minutes. Dessert and food on the go variety are great. People should give the store a chance and rate this higher. Was there a bad one time experience that someone had? You need to concern about rating for the entire store and was one would experience on the first time visit. Some of the staff are rude with attitude. A few talk behind customers backs. A few are kind and helpful. The "starbucks" coffee area could use further training in customer service. Lately the store has decided to not have cashiers but to send you to the self checkouts. The last three times I was there, they had 1 or 2 cashiers with very long lines. Since I only had a few items the one time, I went to self checkout as there was only 1 cashier working!! I had to wait for a space since that was packed as well. When I finally did get to check-out, the lady had to come over to me 5 times for 13 items ! She was also running to all the other kiosks as well. Totally ridiculous!! Please get your cashiers back. It is much easier on the customer and it is nice to interact with a human-especially since it avoids all the problems at self check-out. read more

I have to change my tune since Kroger came in and now owns Mariano's selling dented cans on shelves, out of date items on the shelf. out of stock on many advertised items and more. I called immediately, spoke with a woman who said she would leave note for the manager about the error. advertised price $7.99 charge on receipt $14.41. I went to the store two days later, no one knows anything. the manager of the day eyeballs the receipt up and down three times. apparently he can't find the item on the receipt. you think it could it be one of the items I marked? the manager of the day is talking to a woman from the click list area (she stepped up when she saw no one at customer service) they are having a discussion about the situation. circumvent all the discussion. I love Mariano's! Love everything about it... I do have a couple of tiny complaints. 1. I've called on two different occasions (this location and Jefferson Park )both at 9pm to order some sushi before they close at 10pm. Lo and behold..I've been told that they're done and deep fryer had been turned off ! A full hour before they close ? I work late so I can't order any earlier. 2. Walking past the bakery one night and saw an employee throwing out all the baked goods (donuts, rolls etc..). They should at least arrange for some organization to pick up leftover food. Anyway..still love this place. I just hope that they do the closing prep around 9:30 or so and also donate your leftover baked goods to sone homeless shelter. read more

I have not been here in ages due to high prices. I thought I would splurge since I did not need much. I started out at the Deli. Ordered 1 coldcut, in the process of ordering another I saw something I did not feel comfortable with. Right next to the cold cuts on the top shelf. was a plastic container that they put salad in. It was catching drips of water that was dripping down from the case. I thought about not taking my meats that I got from that case. I couldn't make up my mind. I then went to look at the first cold cut I got which was farther away from the dripping water. Sure enough, to the left of it there was another plastic salad container that was catching dripping water from the case that the deli meats were in. I wasn't happy with that. I thought what happens when that water runs over when they're busy and they don't notice it. It would go on to the cold cuts. I left what I had in my basket and walked out. Chicken was out of stock and instead of calling to see if they could substitute with another brand of chicken they sent two bunches of asparagus. Who the F does that? Then when I asked for a refund I was told it would take 5-7 days for it to process. Stay as far away from this. store as you can. This was our first visit to a Mariano's and we were impressed. The one at Devon and Cumberland was not open today, so we came by here. Getting some Graeter's ice cream was the real driver for our visit though. It's big, clean, and efficient, and it was a pleasure to browse around. Prices are reasonable also (according to the wife who knows a lot better than I). I found they have a nice craft beer selection, and you can make your own six-pack here for $9. Make two, and I did, and you get a free Mariano's pint glass! read more

I honestly don't understand the hype about this store! I typically avoid shopping here but today I was in the neighborhood so I decided to give them another try. Disappointed ensued. Me (at empty meat counter) - Hi! Can I please have 2 pounds of cod. Employee - I don't work at this counter and for future reference you need to grab a number. Me (looks around) - No one else is here? Employee - You still need a number. Me (increasingly annoyed) - Fine.. where do I grab this number?!?! Employee - Oh never mind.. he will help you. (Annoyed employee points at a new annoyed face emerging from the back). UGH! ‍ God help me if I ever need to buy fish and forget to grab a number when clearly no one else is even shopping in the vicinity of the fish counter! Moving on.. Why is Mariano's one of the last grocery stores on the planet to grasp that consumers HATE the hassle of rewards cards. No, I don't want to stand in line at your understaffed service desk to sign up for a "rewards card" so that I can save .70 cents on eggs. How about just giving everyone the same price?? That would be an honest effort in the direction of pleasing people. But instead you make it difficult. Sigh. So today.. after being chastised by the "non fish counter worker" before being helped, digging through produce to find fresh peppers, and walking in circles around the oversized, confusing store to locate tortillas I retreated to the check out line. The woman in front of me nicely asked her cashier to put her chicken breasts in a plastic bag. The cashier looked at her confused while the bagger dropped the chicken on top of her dry goods sideways. The woman looked disgusted. No one cared. Finally my turn. I get reminded again that to save .70 cents on eggs I need to go stand in line at the service desk to become a rewards member. I take this moment to remember why I never like shopping here! I like this Mariano's because the staff is always very nice when I have a question, and they always make an effort to help. It seems very clean and they have a lot of Vegan options there which is awesome! During the pandemic they have spray and paper towels to clean your cart and they seem to be doing their due diligence. The parking lot is big enough and there is always parking. They also have the best roses! read more

I am so disappointed in my experience at Mariano's today and I blame it on management, not the staff. Unlike other stores, there was no control over capacity, they do not have any directional signs for flow of shoppers, and at the self-check out there is nothing on the floors to enforce social distancing. The store was easy too crowded and impossible to stay six feet from anyone - and half of the shoppers had their mask below their nose. The staff, however. All were wearing their mask properly. I did my usual grocery in the store. It was fine, there are a lot more people because it was weekend but I was able to shop freely without a hassle. Every selection are well kept, most of the departments has a nice selections. I was dead tired and was about to leave and then I remember I do not have food at home. I was thinking of going in drive thru but I remember that the store has prepared foods. There was a line but the staff in there was efficient. Food looks good and prices are reasonable. The food was delicious when I ate it at home and I am seriously think I prefer them over fast food. read more
