I picked a pork item to take home and try. When I got home and started to thaw it out, I noticed that the item I purchased had expired 1 1/2 months before the purchase date. This was a use by date, not a purchase by date, so it had no shelf life. I thought any establishment would be embarrassed to sell a product 1 1/2 months after the expiration date. Now here's the problem. The Glenview store is 40 minutes from me. I am much closer to the Mt. Prospect store and I was under the impression that the Wild Fork sign on both stores means that they would both back up product sold by the Wild Fork corporation. Well Mt. Prospect wouldn't help me in any way since I did not buy the item there. Don't give me the "franchise" excuse. If Wild Fork can't figure out how to stand behind their product, no matter which location, I have no reason to ever set foot in any of their stores again.

They have great premade salads, like the miso salmon and the lemon orzo that are often a staple in our rotation of lunches. Once I was done shopping, I had an interaction with a younger individual who looked like either an early college student or a high school student. He was pretty tall and dark-skinned, which I'm mentioning only to describe his physical appearance since I'm the same complexion as well, and I'm not saying that in a racist way. During the interaction, he saw that I didn't have a bag that was full but still proceeded to lay my items out instead of putting them in a bag. I had to tell him that I needed a bag, despite there literally being one right underneath him. He also didn't think to distribute the items between two bags and instead gave me one huge bag that was easily a good 20 pounds. After he finished putting everything into this big-ass bag, literally two seconds later he said, "Whenever you're ready to pay." I said, "Oh, okay, my bad," because I was just getting my form of payment together. Mind you, it had only been like two seconds since he finished scanning everything. I paid and said, "Thank you, have a good one," because I genuinely had no bad or negative intentions toward him. He proceeded to respond with "mhmmm." I'm aware that this neighborhood isn't necessarily the most inclusive, but when you're an African American person working in predominantly non-Black environments, I feel like it's important to treat everyone with respect, even if you may have some bias toward your own people. At the end of the day, these people will never accept you in the same way, so it's disappointing when someone who looks just like you contributes to that kind of experience. He was also the only worker who didn't really have customers coming up to him left and right, so maybe that interaction threw him off or something. And trust me, I understand what it feels like to experience discrimination. But it really is a terrifying and uncomfortable experience going into unfamiliar neighborhoods as a person of color just to run errands, especially when you're already unsure of the area, only to feel like the employees are giving you a hard time as well. What made it worse was that this was coming from an employee who looks just like me.

He mentioned that Kroger is swapping the closing date of this location with the one in Buffalo Grove. Eric assured me that he'll still have a job with the company, but his current commute is just one minute, and now, he doesn't yet know where he'll be reassigned. Even before hearing that the store would be closing two weeks earlier than expected, I was already feeling nostalgic. I've shopped at this Mariano's for over 10 years. It's huge, clean, and rarely overcrowded--maybe that's part of what hurt it from a business perspective. I've taken a few photos to help remember it, and I know I'll miss this place a lot.

The inside is clean, with some nicer displays and dining areas that I don't always see at Mariano's locations. The prices are fairly competitive, with plenty of items on sale though some require fairly large quantities before the sale price is triggered. Though the store is enormous, products aren't grouped too tightly so there is plenty of space to navigate around the store (though, I would prefer a bit more aisle spacing as some areas seem to have a good amount of unused space). This also means that the selection is large, but not as enormous as if they used less space for making attractive displays and instead packed products more tightly on the aisles. Checkout is fairly quick, with a good number of self checkout kiosks available to use.

Just curious if anyone has ever told "upper" management and corporate that Jewel-Osco is short staffed often at nearly every store because you have chosen to pay as little as possible with no reward based on merit. You act like pimps pushing people to their brink. Truly disconnected management and CEO's who make decisions based on ego instead of using critical thinking and logic. Staff is not interested in providing over the top customer service when you provide your employees with unlivable wages, no set schedules, ridiculous expectations. Enjoy your short staffed stress. I only went in for soup and popsicles and I came out with three bags. I love it! So many good products and I really restrained myself. Super nice and friendly staff.

I have gotten cannolis, brownies, cookies, etc. and everything has been eaten with positive reviews. I get whatever is on sale so it has "forced" me to try different items! Also, the focaccia bread is welcome into the rotation of dinner sides. Overall, I find the staff to be friendly enough and quick to jump to make sure the checkout line keeps moving. There were two cashiers/lanes open. That was it. There were at least 15 people in each line. They don't have self checkout, which is annoying because I much prefer that (especially since I'm only ever buying like 2 loaves of bread and that's it). Most people in line had huge carts full of groceries. At least they don't bag groceries so that cuts down on some of the time it takes to get customers through the checkout, but only 2 lanes open on a Saturday afternoon is bonkers. Why do they have like 8 checkout lanes if they aren't going to staff them when the store is packed? Also, the stock today and the last time I was there wasn't great. I didn't see any employees in the aisles stocking today so I don't know if they only had 2 people working entirely or if they just ran out of stuff or what. It's really luck of the draw when you come here.

It's the biggest Aldi I have seen anyway. The parking is also plentiful as it is at the end of a big strip mall and located next to a quiet Kohl's. Besides coffee, I've personally started paying more attention to Aldi's wine offerings as I recently saw from a reliable source (YouTube lol) that besides other good values, they have exceptionally good wine selections and values.
