    Empty cup at register

If I can give it a zero I would.. I went there a couple of times, as I thought it was quieter and nicer I was very wrong each time going I ended up throwing food away due to expiration dates, when I brought it to the managers attention he could have cared less. So yesterday I went (my last time I will ever go) my daughter and I had to look at every expiration date, cream was expired in June, bread expired cans expired it was horrible but to add insult to injury in the bread isle was a bag on the floor with bread rolls in it, and all molded how long has it been sitting that an employee didn't see this, the shelves were not stocked, no one was around to help, and standing in line to check out was an empty Starbucks cup that was just sitting. Totally disgusted with this store

"Our butchers are happy to custom cut your order" is misleading. Should say for an extra charge. It's not free and they aren't happy.

This review is solely regarding the meat department. I've had great service in the past when I've bought eye of round to smoke for beef jerky. I've always had them slice it for me because they can do it in no time and get it cut more consistent than I can with a knife. Today, for the first time, I was told it would be an up charge to slice it. No where does it say there is an extra charge and it's not a very labor intensive process so I really don't get it. Their signage says they are happy to custom cut your order. That does not seem to be the case. To make it worse, I get the slices of meat back and it's not thin enough to do what I wanted. I'm stuck with $30 worth of junk that's going to be too thick to get the jerky I wanted and it can't be sliced again. Billy's customer service leaves a lot to be desired.

I picked a pork item to take home and try. When I got home and started to thaw it out, I noticed that the item I purchased had expired 1 1/2 months before the purchase date. This was a use by date, not a purchase by date, so it had no shelf life. I thought any establishment would be embarrassed to sell a product 1 1/2 months after the expiration date. Now here's the problem. The Glenview store is 40 minutes from me. I am much closer to the Mt. Prospect store and I was under the impression that the Wild Fork sign on both stores means that they would both back up product sold by the Wild Fork corporation. Well Mt. Prospect wouldn't help me in any way since I did not buy the item there. Don't give me the "franchise" excuse. If Wild Fork can't figure out how to stand behind their product, no matter which location, I have no reason to ever set foot in any of their stores again.

Although this location I find to be busier than many others, I can some times feel overwhelmed by the amount of folks that are in the store but the staff is so great about getting folks what they need to help ease the stress. The staff is also great at making recommendations for new menu items and classics. They have great premade salads, like the miso salmon and the lemon orzo that are often a staple in our rotation of lunches. Once I was done shopping, I had an interaction with a younger individual who looked like either an early college student or a high school student. He was pretty tall and dark-skinned, which I'm mentioning only to describe his physical appearance since I'm the same complexion as well, and I'm not saying that in a racist way. During the interaction, he saw that I didn't have a bag that was full but still proceeded to lay my items out instead of putting them in a bag. I had to tell him that I needed a bag, despite there literally being one right underneath him. He also didn't think to distribute the items between two bags and instead gave me one huge bag that was easily a good 20 pounds. After he finished putting everything into this big-ass bag, literally two seconds later he said, "Whenever you're ready to pay." I said, "Oh, okay, my bad," because I was just getting my form of payment together. Mind you, it had only been like two seconds since he finished scanning everything. I paid and said, "Thank you, have a good one," because I genuinely had no bad or negative intentions toward him. He proceeded to respond with "mhmmm." I'm aware that this neighborhood isn't necessarily the most inclusive, but when you're an African American person working in predominantly non-Black environments, I feel like it's important to treat everyone with respect, even if you may have some bias toward your own people. At the end of the day, these people will never accept you in the same way, so it's disappointing when someone who looks just like you contributes to that kind of experience. He was also the only worker who didn't really have customers coming up to him left and right, so maybe that interaction threw him off or something. And trust me, I understand what it feels like to experience discrimination. But it really is a terrifying and uncomfortable experience going into unfamiliar neighborhoods as a person of color just to run errands, especially when you're already unsure of the area, only to feel like the employees are giving you a hard time as well. What made it worse was that this was coming from an employee who looks just like me.

You can get better at a real restaurant for the same prices without the horrid racket of the grocery store. This place is legit louder than being in an Equinix server cage room!!! According to Eric, the store is now set to close on August 8, moving up from the original closing date of August 22. That's just a month away! He mentioned that Kroger is swapping the closing date of this location with the one in Buffalo Grove. Eric assured me that he'll still have a job with the company, but his current commute is just one minute, and now, he doesn't yet know where he'll be reassigned. Even before hearing that the store would be closing two weeks earlier than expected, I was already feeling nostalgic. I've shopped at this Mariano's for over 10 years. It's huge, clean, and rarely overcrowded--maybe that's part of what hurt it from a business perspective. I've taken a few photos to help remember it, and I know I'll miss this place a lot.

The inside is clean, with some nicer displays and dining areas that I don't always see at Mariano's locations. The prices are fairly competitive, with plenty of items on sale though some require fairly large quantities before the sale price is triggered. Though the store is enormous, products aren't grouped too tightly so there is plenty of space to navigate around the store (though, I would prefer a bit more aisle spacing as some areas seem to have a good amount of unused space). This also means that the selection is large, but not as enormous as if they used less space for making attractive displays and instead packed products more tightly on the aisles. Checkout is fairly quick, with a good number of self checkout kiosks available to use.
