Are you kidding me? Purchased today January 12, 2025 and best if sold by February 2024? I spend $300-400 weekly at this store because it is close to my house.

Needed a place to get coffee and sit and work. Bought a cheese danish which was excellent and an Americano. Nice relaxing place to sit and meet up with someone or to get work done. The trickling of water in the garden area by seating adds to the experience.

I haven't been to this Mariano's before, and in general, I'm a huge fan of the place. This review is more about their catering, and to sum it up, like the rating, "Meh, I've experienced better." A lot better. The catering here was rather in disarray. I called earlier for some good ol' fried chicken and was told it would be ready by the requested time of 615PM and to ask the peeps at the deli. I arrived at the Mariano's at 630PM and went to the deli counter. The person greeted me promptly and told me I had to go to the "other" deli counter. OK, cool... no problem. I got to the other deli counter, and was told I had to go to the BBQ counter, because it was fried chicken. OK... still, not that big of a deal. I got to the BBQ counter, and stood there. And stood there. And stood there. I guess the BBQ counter was in eyeshot of the dining area, where other Mariano's employees were eating their lunch/evening din-din because after 635PM, I hear on the intercom "Customer assistance needed in Todd's BBQ". Another Mariano's employee, on his lunch break, said someone was coming. I get it... you're on lunch. I'm not mad at cha. Waited.... waited... a manager with a store handheld walks by and pages for assistance again. 640PM now. Finally someone walks behind the counter and asks what I needed. I said some fried chicken yo. Dude apologizes, and I see him walk over to the "other" deli, and return in a couple of minutes with the boxes of fried chicken. Whole ordeal took close to 15-minutes. After that, everything was fine. Paid, left, and the fried chicken was delicious.

Is it true they are no longer offering smoothies. Fresh to order is the key. Bring them back please . Big part of my attraction to the store.

    HUGE gelato coffee bar.

This Mariano's is huge. Like... WHOA. Apparently it's the biggest location (so far). My husband and I were in the area and wanted to find some food before hitting the road but couldn't agree on anything. I remembered this shopping center/Mariano's opened recently and suggested grabbing something to eat from their hot/salad bar. (I used to work at another Mariano's a few years ago, so I have familiar and find memories of this awesome chain.) But wow, was not expecting this to be so big! Half of Mariano's was the regular grocery selection (we didn't wander over there but it looked like all the other Mariano's locations) and the other half was numerous food stations and bars for all your dine-in needs. I LOVED all the food stations --- the deli, the bakery, the glass-enclosed cheese area, the candy bar, oysters, sushi, pizza, BBQ, hot foods, salad bar, the huuuuge coffee/gelato bar, the wine bar, the raw vegan area, etc. That last one was awesome to find. There aren't too many groceries that have a focus on raw vegan foods. The wine bar amused me a bit. Who comes here to sit and sip on wine? There WAS someone sitting there, so I suppose some people do. And in the dining area, what seemed like a group of Japanese businessmen were enjoying their hot meals and drinks. Mariano's is generally a four or five-star grocery (in my opinion). However, this one lost a star because although the dining area was kind of awesome, it was a bit confusing and overwhelming. You could wander around and select things you wanted but then had to circle back to find the registers to pay for them. Also, the employees were not as friendly as I thought they should be. I didn't get the Mariano's 'experience.' Maybe things have changed in the past couple years. My husband and I grabbed our hot foods (along with a fresh juice and white chocolate truffle for me) and enjoyed our meals before hitting the road. I'm glad we were able to stop here and check it out. If we had more time, I would have lingered a bit longer at each station (and maybe spent more money). You probably could spend an entire afternoon in this place!

This my go to place in the area. The prices are reasonable and the food is great. Sucks that this location had to close.

After hitching a ride with my neighbor to try some seafood soup another neighbor of ours recommended I was blown away. The freshly prepared food is actually fresh and tastes really good. Like you can't make it better at home good. All the produce and meats look very fresh as well. I have deep regrets about not going here sooner. I don't get everything from here, but I do love their bakery and deli. I always like to see the different items they have, and I really like that they stock bakery items from local bakeries. I love that they have Do-rite donuts ($2.39 each) daily and that no matter what time I stop in, the donuts are always soft and fresh. They do usually have a few gluten-free on hand too. They also have items from their own bakery such as danishes, muffins, scones (from Hot Cakes Bakery in Northbrook) and croissants, etc. I get the croissants often and they are really good. The bagels are also another reason I stop in. I believe they are from 'Once Upon a Bagel' bagel shop. They are soft and fluffy and fresh daily for $1.25. They carry the standard flavors - Plain, Wheat, Egg, Everything, Cinnamon Raisin, Chocolate Chip, Sesame, Poppy, Pumpernickel, Corn Rye and Onion. They also have bialys which are also great. They have cheesecake slices from the Cheesecake Factory and various Palermo bakery cake slices and desserts. I've seen them stock things from other bakeries such as the Baking Institute, Carol's Cookies, Leonard's Bakery, Sweet Thing Bake Shop, Killer Brownie and others that I can't remember the name of. Their own bakery makes very good cakes too - we've gotten a lamb cake for Easter as well as other various cakes and coffee cakes and everything has been good. They have a very good deli selection with a lot of prepared foods. If you were hungry and wanted something quick, there are a lot of foods available you can grab. You can get soup, hot bar, sushi - which is some of the best grocery store sushi (they make it there), salads, sandwiches and lots of other miscellaneous foods. They also have some deli meats packaged so you don't have to wait in the deli line. They also have a really nice selection of precut fruits and vegetables for convenience. This review is already a lot longer than I intended, so I'll wrap it up here, but it's overall a great store in the area. The workers have always been friendly and I always find something that I don't see everywhere else which keeps me coming back to discover new things. And can't refuse the complimentary coffee on the way out!

However, I feel that the selection of items, freshness of produce, and general pricing isn't as good as what it once was. While the highest prices are still generally reasonable, the amount of middle priced to cheaper options seems to be smaller than other grocery stores nearby (even Jewel). While I enjoy going here for ready-to-eat items, I find myself going elsewhere for dry, canned, and other goods.

Although the self-checkout area had a different staff each time I went, the staff I encountered were all friendly and helpful. In the most recent trip, a staff named Marty even came up to me to say "Hello, how are you?" This gesture really set the tone for a happy checkout. Right after Thanksgiving, I saw a sign on sweet potatoes advertising 29 cents a pound with digital coupon and the Mariano's loyalty card, which was an excellent deal.  So, I called my husband to clip the digital coupon online with the home computer while I was getting some sweet potatoes.  However, my husband could not find the coupon on Mariano's website.  I saw a staff working in the produce department who looked like a manager, named Matthew, and told him about the situation.  He found that the deal had just expired even though the sign was still posted.  He still graciously honored the discounted price. At self-checkout, a staff named Meredith gladly honored the price as well without needing to verify it with Matthew.  Although I was only saving about $2, this kind of trust, friendliness, and flexibility were great customer service and made me happy. During the same visit, I noticed that Mariano's had replaced all of their shopping carts with brand new plastic ones.  These new shopping carts were clean and sturdy, and very smooth and easy to maneuver. I like that Mariano's really works on enhancing customers' shopping experience.   Kudos to the Northbrook management and staff for doing such a great job.
