I came in to get a loose pave diamond on my engagement ring replaced as the one of the diamonds has fallen off. She replaced it with an inferior stone that's darker than the rest of the pave stones. I didn't notice it until I got home unfortunately. The other thing that rubbed me wrong was she unsolicited told me that my ring was too small for my hands and that I needed to size up. It felt like fat shaming and since I'm non-confrontational and trust experts I agreed. Now the ring spins on my finger and I regret listening to her. read more

Avoid this business at all cost!!!  DO NOT GO THERE FOR ANYTHING.  Jeremy and Karen Lien are the proprietors and that is not their real name.  They are also known as Jeremy and Karen Wong.   Our horror story began when we took a very expensive solid gold bracelet into Moraga Jewelers to fix the clasp, as well as a Krieger Chronograph watch for a new battery and cleaning.  Jeremy ruined the watch and the clasp repair on the bracelet was the most sloppy and amateurish we had ever seen.  When we brought this to his attention, Jeremy became very upset, promised to fix it, and asked us to come back later.   We went back many times and Jeremy always said come back later, he was not finished.  This went on for several months.  Finally, we demanded our jewelry be returned and he said HE COULD NOT FIND IT!!! We returned several more times, but it was always the same lies about not being able to find our property.  When he saw us coming in, he would also go behind the wall to avoid talking to us. We finally filed a complaint with the Moraga Police.  Jeremy told the Police he had never seen us before.  The Police took a report but were powerless to do anything in the face of Jeremy's lies. In late 2010 we filed a Small Claims action with the Contra Costa Superior Court.  This is a matter of public record - you can look up Case number WSC10-0963.  In two appearances before the Court, Jeremy and Karen Lien perjured themselves and they both lied under oath telling the Judge that they had never seen us before!  We had a receipt for the jewelry, and thank God, the Judge did not believe their lies and in April 2010 ruled in our favor for the full amount allowed in small claims, almost $7,000.   We tried unsuccessfully to collect on the judgment for over 7 months. Jeremy and Karen Lien did not answer our payment demands, and they failed to obey the Court's order to provide information about their assets.  We finally got them back into court for a debtor's examination in December 2011.    Here, the story gets even more bizarre.  In the same Court where Jeremy and Karen Lien lied under oath and told the Judge they had never seen us before, she magically produced the watch and the bracelet!!!   Imagine our shock and relief at finally getting our property back. Oh my gosh! I am in shock. I had a damaged and broken ring that needed to be repaired and a deep clean. I had never been here but I figured I should try it since it was close to me. I walked in there and was greeted so nicely and kind by Karen! I explained to her what I needed done and she said no problem. I came back a few days later amazed by how the ring looked. It looked brand new. Everything was now new and fixed that had used to be damaged and the cleaning of the ring was completely great. The price for it was totally reasonable as well. I was visiting my folks in Moraga and happened to be walking around the Rheem shopping plaza. I was with my mom, and we came across Moraga Cellular & Jeweler. She said that she comes by often to get her jewelry repaired and to change the batteries on both hers and my dads' watches. She also said that they have nice jewelry that she thought I might liked. We decided to go in. I immediately realized that I've been meaning to get my wedding ring examined. I recently banged it against a door and just never found the time to bring it in to my jeweler in Saratoga. So I figured this was the perfect opportunity to get my ring checked out. I was approached by a woman who introduced herself as Karen. I explained what had happened to my ring, and she called her husband over to talk to me. Jeremy was extremely nice and examined my ring for me. After about a minute or so, He told me that one of the prongs on my ring was chipped. It had practically fallen off. I was upset and asked if there was anything they could do. Jeremy said that he could replace it, and he didn't forsee any problems. I asked him how long it would take, and he said that he could get it done in the same day. I told him that I will shop around with my mom, and then come back. He agreed, and said that if there were any problems, he would give me a call back. Within 2 hours, I got a call back from Karen saying that my ring was ready for pick up. I went to the store, and saw my ring. Jeremy was nice enough to explain what he did, and what might have happened. He used a magnifier to explain this to me. He also cleaned it, so it was super sparkly as I placed it back on my finger. I'm very grateful for stopping by and more importantly to Moraga Cellular & Jeweler for fixing the prong on my diamond ring. It's scary to think that I might've lost my diamond. I bought earrings for my wife for $8,000 that appraised at $14,000+. The appraiser shook his head with amazement when I told him what they had cost me. I suspect a few disreputable jewelers have prompted friends to flame Moraga Jewelers. I also know about a scamming ring that operates in the area, switching out real jewelry for lab-created gems worth pennies. Then they claim they have been cheated; handed back the fake stuff instead of their real jewelry. I needed to get a watch repaired and found this place on Yelp. I was a little iffy on it because of some of the negative reviews but I figured a simple watch repair would be easy enough to complete and it was! Karen fixed my watch while I waited, overall a 10 minute errand. Definitely would recommend this place for watch repairs. They did also have a pretty good selection of jewelry. About 15 years ago, Jeremy reinforced the 6 prongs on my ring. Recently, I noticed that two of the prongs were gone probably because I wear my ring all the time. I struggled to get my ring off my finger because my knuckle had gotten so much bigger. I went in to see what could be done. I didn't want my ring to be enlarged just so it would fit over the knuckle because then my ring would roll around too loosely. Jeremy and Karen showed me their Cliq ring system. Now my ring has a new prong head and a hinge that lets me take off my ring easily. Thank you Jeremy for a beautiful job! read more

While bringing in my husband's watch for cleaning, Jeremy noticed that the setting for my diamond engagement ring was worn...and he took care to show me the worn prongs as well as the extreme thinness of the band. (I suppose that after fifty years the ring did need some work!) The upshot: Jeremy reset the diamond in a stronger setting (that included his melting and re-using the gold from the original ring, continuing its sentimental value) and he did a terrific job. It turned out that my husband's watch needed a bit more work--crystal replaced and band polished--so that it looks almost new despite many years of hard wear. I was unhappy with how my ring was inked the first time around and asked to do again properly with all the patterns along with the name. After several weeks with no call of completion, I finally stopped by. Unfortunately, they chose to nickel and dime me with added cost even upon my dissatisfaction with the end product and untimeliness of the service. I wish I had read the reviews before my last visit to Moraga Jewelry. I've stopped in here several times over the years for simple watch battery replacements and had no problems. This time was a little different. I brought in 3 watches (2 for battery replacement and 1 for cleaning). I asked how much these services would cost and was told "$11 for each battery and $15 for the cleaning. (Pause) No $12 for each battery." At this moment, I thought it a little strange that the business owner didn't know his standard rate for battery replacement, and briefly wondered if the price was actually based on who walks in the door. But I told him to proceed with 2 battery replacements and 1 cleaning, as the rates seemed fair enough. Then, while behind the wall doing the work, he told me that the gasket needed to be replaced on the 1 watch being cleaned. I asked how much this would cost and was told "not much", but not the exact price. When he emerged, I was presented with a receipt for $63 (and change)! And he informed me that he had changed and charged me for 2 gasket replacements, which added approx. $20 (+ tax) to my bill! (Note: Watch gaskets are extremely cheap at about $5 for a pack of 75 and easily replaced when the watch back is off for other service.) All and all, I didn't suffer too badly, but was left upset and terribly unimpressed. I am a supporter of small businesses, but believe in honest and transparent practices (i.e. when a customer asks how much something costs, you tell them; and you don't perform services and charge a customer without their permission). Therefore, I will not be returning to Moraga Jewelry and would recommend extreme caution if you use them. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!!!! HORRIBLE!!! Worst customer service. This place literally ROBBED me of my money. After assessing that my watch could be 100% percent fixed, i received my watch later that day after paying a huge sum of money to realize that they in fact had not fixed my watch at all...After charging me for a replaced strap, new molding, and new battery, they then went to re-diagnose the problem and realized the issue was actually mechanical and that the watch needed more service done to be fixed with the extra charge of $65.... WHAT??!?! so they essentially lied to me in order to receive twice the amount of money. After i proceeded to at least ask for a battery refund the man (also owner) refused any kind of refund or compensation or even APOLOGY for his mistake and mis-diagnosis. I then asked him the name of the owner, and he refused to give it to me. As I was asking him a question mid-sentence, he then walks away behind the wall and leaves the room in order to avoid further communication. Later I find out he is the owner and the most disrespectful, un-professional, rude person i've ever met in my life. I do not know how he expects to keep his business alive considering he does not know how to run one. Not only is the jewelry in the store hideously ugly and tacky in so many ways, his business methodology is completely fucked up and he needs to be shut down and put out of business. I think the one star reviews for this jeweler were written either by a competitor or someone confusing the store with another. Jeremy and Karen have done several repairs for me, all on old or antique jewelry, and they were prompt, honest, creative and very kind. They never promised something they couldn't deliver and always kept to their timelines. The prices they charge are extremely reasonable and I always feel safe entrusting our family heirlooms to them, which have more sentimental than monetary value sometimes. Jeremy also beautifully designed and crafted earrings out of antique Muni tokens which we found in my late father-in-laws belongings, and they are now the pride and joy of our two daughters. I think there was a store with that name on the other end of the Rheem shopping center near the theater. It is also confusing because Yelp has a photo of another couple next to the business name, so I had a hard time figuring out this was the correct business I wanted to review until I compared the address on yelp to the address on the Moraga Jewelers business card you handed me. read more

DO NOT USE THIS JEWELER!!!! I brought a DeBeers ring in to have shank molded back into shape. The ring came back to me completely RUINED! I brought it to DeBeers in SFO and in addition to them pointing out that there was 14k gold that was protruding from the ring. DeBeers told me that a diamond had been REPLACED WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE AND ANOTHER DIAMOND WAS CRACKED!!! I took this ring to another jeweler in the city and had to have the setting COMPLETELY REMADE AT A PRICE OF CLOSE TO $3K!!! Then when I filed a complaint with the credit card company, the jeweler COMPLETELY MISREPRESENTED WHAT HE DID! THE NEXT STEP IS SMALL CLAIMS COURT.
