Belated Review but Jhigs is AMAZING. I cut my hair too short for comfort and needed to figure out a fancy hair do for a big corproate event. I also have no talent in putting on makeup. Jhigs made me look FABULOUS for $70. (I am so freaking embarassed but I thought I heard a much lower number and actually almost walked away without paying enough...) I would absolutely recommend for hair, lash, makeup. Pretty much if you need to look fab for a good price and really quick. This is the place to be! Definitely recommended. 4.5 stars! read more

I've been coming here ever since I moved back to California in 2002. My mom has been a customer since I was about a toddler, so she's loyal. The person who does our hair, her name is Marites, she knows what will compliment you best. My mom always love what is done to her hair, and I haven't really had any problems with my hair. If you show her a pictures she's really good about replicating it. Sometimes she can cut my hair shorter than I want, but as long as it isn't all butchered I am happy! Like the other review, this place is a Filipino Salon. You should be open minded upon entering. TFC is blasting in the background and they do speak in their native tongue. More than likely they are not talking about you! They can get busy though! So calling ahead will most likely help you out in the long run. The prices are pretty good, it's about $20 for a haircut, and I personally believe it's better than Great Clips because these people actually know how to cut, or aren't straight out of school. read more

I needed a very last minute, day-of, hair and makeup appointment for a photoshoot at 6pm. At 12 noon I was calling around, frazzled, and Jhig was the only one who could fit me in that afternoon. When I arrived, Jhig blew away my expectations and did soft, loose curls in rollers while working on my face. I wanted a very natural look since I was doing a photoshoot outside with my dog. She understood and gave my face very even coverage without looking cakey. For $80 plus tip I was so pleased with the service here and will come back! read more

My coworker recommended this place and to my dismay it failed miserably. I asked for layers in front and the stylist took my hair twisted it upwards and from the top she cut it for "layers". Worst, she was so distracted by the conversation around her to even pay attention to my hair; hence, as you can see in the picture it was poorly done. The middle is shorter than the rest and it has no structure or decent layers. I asked for front layers.. but she just cut the back unevenly for the "layers". She probably cut my hair in 5-10 mins and didn't even touch the back of my hair or cared enough to check her work. Sadly, I paid $25 plus $10 tip for this kind of haircut. I wish I saw the back before I paid her because this type of work doesn't even deserve to be paid. What a waste of time and money. read more

Look, I'll be honest. If you haven't experienced a Filipino salon, then this place may be a shock to your system. If you have, however, then read on. Entering Jhigs's Hair Studio will be like stepping into a time-and-space warp and finding yourself back in Quezon City, with the TV blasting Kris Aquino's report on showbiz news, the stylists and customers chattering back and forth in rapid-fire tagalog, and the statue of a crowned Jesus-child staring quietly at everything from a tall shelf. Yes, fellow Pinoys - you are home. That said, I will say that having had my hair & makeup done by several different make-up professionals, Jhigs is hands-down the best make-up I've had done. Maybe it's because I'm Filipino and she knows how to highlight the best in Filipino features. But I think her talent goes beyond color lines. For my dime, I'll always go to Jhigs when I've gotta pretty myself up! Their hair expertise is pretty good too - not the best I've had, but certainly on par with my better hair-do's. I'd say they're a solid B+ in that department. I think they tend to do better with special-occasion up-dos and older hair-styles (like my mom). But they do a decent job with younger cuts too. Price-wise, they are totally reasonable. A recent hair & makeup job cost me $70, and I added a tip on top of that. Not bad at all, considering that's what you would pay for make-up alone in most places. And I was THRILLED with the results! So - if you're not Pinoy, just keep in mind what I've said above. Jhigs & team did a great job for my wedding part in April 2014. Everything from the hair and makeup trial session to the pre-wedding hair and makeup was a pleasant experience. The team showed up exactly on time and set up fancy tables and mirrors with lights right in my hotel room. I literally used Jhigs for all my school dances all the way to my wedding day. I have specifically worked with Emme as my hair and makeup stylist. She uses airbrush makeup which makes your makeup flawless and is a perfectionist in creating beautiful updos. You can bring in a picture of what you want your hair to look like and she will make a master piece out of your hair! On my wedding day I had the whole Jhigs team set up in our hotel room. Not only did they do my bridal party's hair they accommodated all my aunties/family at the studio. We received so many compliments on our hair and makeup, our pictures turned out beautiful! She was very fair in pricing for just a trim (maybe $15) and it took less than 15 mins! She cut off the exact length I wanted & I told her I didn't want layers. She did everything I asked & didn't try to recommend other things, which I really appreciate :) It makes me crazy when you give clear cut instructions & end up leaving with a completely different haircut. Not to worry here! I was very relaxed and comfortable, will definitely be back. We even asked her to cut my boyfriend's hair & beard. Jhig was not there when I went there to do my bridal hair and makeup, another lady Marites did for me. She is very quick, less than 1.5hrs with my hair and makeup. They charged very reasonable around $80 in store , $150 on site for bride. I got lots of compliments, but I think there are still lots of pace to improve. One small part of my hair fell after 30mins outside, I think the clip was not tight enough. I suggest you bring your own foundation in case you want your own color and quality. We used them for my sister's wedding and then called them as soon as I got engaged. They do an amazing job and are affordable. They came to our hotel room for my bridal party, me and the moms and everyone was surprised at how low their price was! Plus they made us all look stunning! I don't wear much makeup and they do a great job of making you look beautiful in pictures but it doesn't feel like you have a mask on. Plus they use air brush which I love. They do exactly what you want for your hair style and even have great suggestions if you don't know what to do. There can be a bit of a language barrier, but as the reviews say, they are a mainly Filipino salon. My girls and I are all white/Latina and it didn't make any difference. I just picked up my mom from this place and she was in tears at how bad her haircut turned out. the layering is un even and mediocre at best.the worst part is that they did not listen to her. She had a specific style she wanted and communicated to the stylist, but she did not listen and ended up giving her something totally not what she wanted. My hair was beautiful both during the trial and and the actual day. She did exactly what I wanted. Her prices are the best I could find too. I haven't been to Jhig's in over 24 years. The place looked the same, and as I was greet by Mercy, it reminded me of true Filipino hospitality and great Customer Service. She cut, high-lighted, deep conditioned and styled my hair. It was such a warm feeling and glad she was able to take me last minute. For the price I paid, it would be much more at Ulta and other salons in general Carmel Mtn area. I would definitely come back. Just need to remember that they take cash or check. The following review is based solely on telephone contact with this business. First impressions are a big thing with me and this place failed miserably. I called them to ask about the price for makeup/updo and to schedule an appointment. That day was the 24th of he month, I needed the services on the 30th. The woman who answered the phone acted like all callers knew what they were calling about by the way this woman asked questions - who did we want? Huh? Did we want Jhigs?I didn't even know that Jhigs was a person's name, let alone a hair dresser's name! Thought it was just a fancy salon name. Anyway, I said yes, with Jhigs coz why not, he/she is the owner and so must be good to put her own name to it. So the woman asks the date and time and I gave those to her and she said the time was too early and before the salon's regular business hours so she would check with Jhigs and would call me back to let me know if that time was okay. I left her with my phone number and expected a callback the same day. She didn't call back that same day. Or the following day. Or the day after. So I gave up on this salon. Poor customer service-they don't deserve my business. Guess what! On the 29th, I got a voicemail message. From that woman at Jhigs. She said she wanted to confirm my appointment for tomorrow! What the??? What appointment? She never called me back to set it up and she had the nerve to call and confirm? Ignore!!! Like I said, first impressions are a big thing with me. The first time Emmi colored my hair, I wasn't out of there an hour before I had someone asking me where I had my hair done, no kidding! They treat us like we're family and my 8 year old like a princess when she's there. It's a fun, positive experience every time I go and each stylist there is talented! We had Jasmine come do our make up and hair. She did such a great job and she was fast. Even though she was fast we did not feel rushed. I wanted to do a trial run the month before but there was no available spots for the date I wanted. I took a risk and booked with the salon anyways. I am so glad I did because Jasmine made me look so beautiful. She was pleasant to work with and she communicated with me several times before the event.
