A lot of places just have salmon in their sake rolls, so I enjoyed that it also had cucumber. It gave it a tiny crunch without distracting from the flavor. The mango cheesecake was really good. We got jieyi sushi delivered and oh my god it was SO delicious and I really wish I had more photos but we devoured the triple s roll and the California hand rolls so fast I didn't get a chance to snap a pic. Now, the miso, seaweed, and gyoza were okay, it's hard to mess those up. The sushi rolls however, particularly the rainbow roll, were terrible. There was no flavor to them, the textures of the fish were weird, and the rice wasn't right either. The takoyaki wasn't good at all, very mushy. This place is so underrated! We ended up coming here on Valentine's Day after almost every restaurant in the area was booked up. The ramen and sushi were both very good, the service was spectacular and made us feel really comfortable, and the prices are reasonable for the area (they also have a Groupon). I can't begin to describe how much Jieyi and its staff impressed me over the years and provided me a culinary home away from home for many a late worknight dinner alone. So I won't - I'll just tell you some musts. 1. Ocean Salad. One per pair minimum. It's so good, I've told them to raise the price because it's just too much sushi and salad goodness for what they charge. It's like an ex you dated for 3 months in 2018 but still have their Netflix password 3 years later. 2. Unagi + whatever fried rice (there are many options) - still have never seen this anywhere. Soooo good. It's like that mythical beast that is willing to have a threesome with you and your partner even though they are 15 years younger (than you) and know your partner is totally about to leave you. 3. Anything else that seems like too much food for just one. You know you don't always practice portion control you nocturnal drunken barnacle washing back ashore in low tide from a late night 2$ Tuesday failed solo mission. No one will shame you here for ordering multiple appetizers and dinners to go at 12:30am BUT only one set of chopsticks. Paul won't even remind you of it unless you ask, even though he totally remembers how wasted you were when you staggered in to pickup your food you like a drunken swine at an apple eating contest. 4. Paul. Can't (sadly) order him to go, but he's almost always around during the evenings if you dine in. Paul is the nicest human that's ever greeted, sat, ,suggested menu items, drank sake with, talked with (about exes, life, the world) took care of, chased a thief with, hear or tell a story from, have another sake drink with, etc. 5. The two front tables (if available) with their own cutout glass. It's like a little aquarium where you and your table guests get to be the fish, watch the world go by on Milwaukee Ave, and if you're like me - play footsie with whoever is next to you just because the table seems designed for it and it's a great distraction to take more than your fair share of Ocean Salad (see #1 for reminder of what that is). read more

I loved being able to use Yelp reservations to ensure seating for my family and I on a Saturday afternoon recently. They were driving in from the suburbs, and I wanted to make sure we didn't have to wait for a table anywhere, so reserving online came in handy. I'm not sure if the woman behind the counter wasn't having a great day or not, but she was a bit unfriendly throughout our lunch right up until a few minutes before we left. It *was* still gloomy and cold outside during this March afternoon, after all, and we're all human. Anyway, I was told that I could choose a spot to sit, so I picked one of the tables by the window. The two front tables are unique because you have to step into the seating area. I attached a photo for reference. I always like little unique touches, and this is definitely a memorable one for me. Once we were all present, we decided to start with fried octopus balls, which were probably my favorite appetizer I've had anywhere in a while. I loved them because I already am a seafood fan, plus wrapping octopus in bread is genius. We were also given cocktail and sake menus, so if you want to come here to drink, you're more than welcome to! Jieyi Sushi is an ideal sushi spot for a group where everyone has different tastes. My dad doesn't like sushi, but loves Pad Thai, so he was able to order a non-raw meal while my brother and I enjoyed the star of the show: the sushi, of course! I picked the Rock 'n' Roll, and my mom ordered a crunchy tuna roll for all of us to share. My brother got a California roll, which you can never go wrong with. The Rock 'n' Roll was a lot more fried than I was hoping for, but it was surely delicious still. If you're looking for a great spot to try some sushi but there are people in your group who may not like raw food, Jieyi is a good compromise. So this is my first time coming to the sushi joints, I read amazing reviews online so I had to check it out. What better way to actually get a feel for a restaurant then to have your birthday at it. We ordered the walnut shrimp 10/10, the spicy maki roll 10/10, the udon soup 10/10, and the shrimp spring roll 10/10. I love how they give you loads of tempura fried vegetables with your udon soup. The broth is delicious and perfect if you feel like you're getting sick. My favorite part about this order was the plateful portion that were give to us.
