Soooo good. We've been going to this place for years. This well lit one-stop shop place for food and other necessities deserves to be rated higher based on what they provide and compared to other airport food. The workers there are very kind. Their soft tofu stew is so good. It had pickles, kimchi, cauliflower, broccoli, snap peas, onion, and carrots in it. The soft tofu was fresh! I think the peas, onions, kimchi and pickles were fresh. But the cauliflower, broccoli, and carrots were frozen. To be fair, it's at an airport so I expect airport quality food. And this food was really good for what it was. The soft tofu stew was about $13 and came with a 12 oz. cup of rice. The rice was a bit on the soft side, but it was steamy and hot. The stew was very comforting and hearty. This meal will definitely satisfy your hunger. I wish there was a bit more soup in the bowl, but I noticed they switched containers, and some of the soup leaked in the bag. I noticed in previous comments, lots of people complained about the sushi. I haven't tried the sushi, but I notice they make the sushi fresh now, and you have to ask for it. So maybe it's better now. They also have instant ramen cups, lots of drink, snacks, and ice cream! This place is a one shop shop for all your needs. They have gum, over the counter meds, snacks, drinks, and hot foods. The only restaurant at JFK with edible sorta healthy food outside of security, in all the Terminals. (Unless you've resigned to eating your meal at Starbucks.). It's not amazing and is quite $$$ but at least it has real food and is not deep fried everything. I tried both bulgogi ($16) which comes with a side of kimchi, and kimbap ($8). Both definitely edible as long as you keep your expectations realistic. The sushi prices here are pretty outrageous ($20 for typical deli style nigiri + roll set), and lets face it - are you really comfortable eating airport sushi.. so I'd stick with the Korean items. They also sell Shin ramen noodles, if you're ok paying $$$ for it. (Obviously, if you can get inside security instead of being stuck outside, Shake Shack awaits...) read more

If this cafe were located anywhere else in NYC besides at an airport, I would probably only give it 2 stars. However, the food options at JFK are pretty mixed, with a few good options, but also a lot of not so good ones. Considering its competition, I think that Jikji Cafe deserves four stars. First of all, it's one of the few Asian restaurants at JFK (which is surprising, because there are quite a few flights over to Asia from here). Secondly, the prices are fairly reasonable for what you get (again, for an airport). Thirdly, the staff is friendly and your food will come out quickly. And, fourthly, they are located *outside* security (in the food court on the top level), which means anyone can eat here, no matter what terminal your flight is out of. Now, the food here is just so/so in taste (calling it Korean is being a bit generous), but it is fairly filling, and there are lots of options on the menu for various dietary restrictions (most of the food is dairy-free!). They also have fairly good coffee, and a lot of unique snacks. Again, do not expect the level of food you would find in Flushing or Manhattan (far from it), but do expect it to be one of the better options at all of JFK. read more

Food was inedible at best. Specifically asked for vegetarian option with NO wheat, rice or rice noodles only. She offered up their new "bibimbap" bowl. I clarified no meat and she said veggies only, I asked over rice and she'd said yes. Got the bowl and it had some rubber/plastic like fried egg on top and pieces of udon noodles throughout the bowl. What was made to look like an divey Asian spot in the airport is just one of JFK's many award losing masterpieces, a member of the mediocre club, and another lackluster airport eatery at its finest. Jikji might seem a little more Asian true compared to the average Panda Express in most food courts but even they be less disappointing than Jikji. From the outside Jikji looks tons more interesting than its fast food neighbors. They sell lots of prepackaged Korean sushi, or kimbap, as well as noodle soups and rice combos. It's nothing fancy, but certainly not anything to go gaga over either. The prices are just as outlandish as most patrons would come to expect at airports. Sadly some desperate individual is going to spend money here and it's not going to be pretty. I ended up buying a few rolls here once, each one cost me $7 and my grand total was $23 with tax. My work per diem at the time covered the cost, so the guilt associated with purchase was not there. The rolls were sad, dry and uninspiring, and a complete waste of money. I also went for a bowl of ramen during a later trip, it was as salty and as prepacked as I expected. The fact it was nearly $10 was just simply no bueno. Terminal 1 might have the decent (fast food laden) food court, but Jikji is not among its stellar choices. Yes, overpriced. Yes, located in the lovingly deemed "asshole of JFK" a.k.a Terminal One, but it is one of the few decent places pre-security you can't eat at that isn't fried and greasy. Plus, it is Korean FF? Hello, that is milestones compared to McDonald's and subpar Chinese food. The sushi and gimbap is pricey but decent for the airport environment. I would favor the gimbap because there is no fresh seafood. The variety of rolls are also a good option. The Korean dishes and soups are alright even though they are nuked in the wave. This place also sells beer and wine, as well as other little snacks as well as sandwiches. Overall? Convenient. I work at JFK way to much to avoid this place and I'm not a fan of the other joints. So I trusted a review from 1 year ago and that was my mistake. Things change and the bulgogi made me want to become vegetarian . The beef was dry, sauce would have salvaged it if not for all the pepper. I had to rub the beef off on the rice to get rid of chunks of black pepper that just overshadowed any bulgogi taste there was. It seemed that the bulgogi has been microwaved a few times before reaching my plate. It smelled not great and looked like beef jerky but tasted like black pepper. The staff was nice. read more

I did not have too much expectation on this restaurant. My flight was 1:25 am in the morning. By the time I finished check in, it was 11 pm. You know, the little ones that sell drinks, snacks, occasionally deli food, and sometimes a Latin dude on-the-side selling flowers? Well think of that when you buy from Jikji. I ordered a $7 smoothie. They didn't even wash the fruit. When I saw them use the strawberries right out of the original pack, I stopped them and told them I wanted the strawberries washed first. They lied to me saying they washed their fruits already while they were throwing away strawberries from that same pack to a garbage can. Think about it. Disgusting. read more

This is the most ripping off place in the entire ny state probably. It is even worse than the souvenir shops in the city. Ramen cost $10 here, which they simply put it in a plastic bowl and microwave (seriously fd up right) in front of you. If you buy the same ramen in Amazon, it costs less than $1. And a bottle of water here is $2.45. Even carts in the city costs $1. They are just taking advantages of travelers. My husband, being Korean with a Korean radar, is quick to direct me to the pre-security area upstairs in the food court of Terminal 1 at JFK. At first, we made the mistake of going through the TSA screening and then finding out there was no way upstairs post-security. We then went back out through a hallway back to the pre-screening area and went up the side escalators where only a McDonalds and Jikji Café was open at a late night hour. I spent an arm and a leg buying really cheap quality ramen and a drink. The employee behind the register was apathetic and non-Korean. She spoke to other people and another airport staff member in Spanish, which was strange to me since this is a Korean quick service restaurant. I'm pretty sure all they did was boil water for our ramen and earned $8-9 dollars for it. The employee barely paid any attention to us and can barely speak English. She tried to tell me in what I thought was in a not too nice way that credit cards were not accepted. I ended up paying twenty something dollars in cash, which I wanted to save up for my trip ahead. Loud Spanish music booms in the Korean establishment. There's nothing Korean about this place. This place is a total rip off, but it's seems to be a no better alternative than all the late night snacks, drinks, and sandwiches that are still open at night, post-screening. The worst part of it was that my husband insisted to go to McDonalds too so we can at least feel full. The food court chairs aren't new and most of the chairs have slits or ripped cushions, which sends my ripped cushion seat phobia on high alert. Disgusting place. Unfortunately I took the decision to stop at this place and eat something because the security line at JFK was too long. I thought, hell, I can wait here a while and grab a savoury bite. BIG MISTAKE. Bought a pre-packed spicy tuna roll, and I could immediately tell the food was old, the rise tasted dry and leathery, like dirt. It was hard to bite down on the roll. I told the woman at the counter that the 13 dollar sushi was uneatable and asked for a refund. She spoke very bad english so our conversation was not very fluid. Nonetheless, she seemed unimpressed, argued that the food was one day old, and refused to give me a refund. I ended up throwing the rolls to the trash. For the next 20 minutes I warned anybody that approached Jikji against eating there, as a sort of catharsis. NEVER GOING BACK. Airport food is always overpriced, and rarely good. It was a pleasure, therefore, to find something different.

I needed a spot for a late lunch post-arrival at JFK, and I needed it to be pre-security-checkpoint. I was told there was a food court at Terminal 4, but got there only to find it had been discontinued a few months earlier. That person told me to go to Terminal 1. All the signage at Terminal 1 said to go to the lower level. Really, that's a food court? I then found out about the "other" food court, just above the security checkpoint, accessible by escalator and two elevators (one broken at the time). (Really bad signage, JFK!) I almost tried Wok & Roll; thought the Bistro would probably be too expensive; and instead tried Jikji Cafe. Had the tempura udon, which came with something pickled on the side and some, I think, bonito flakes. Very happy with finding Jikji Cafe and the food, and I'd eat there again (although if I was post-security, I might spring (again) for Bobby Van's). read more
