I love Jill's! Stopped in today for lunch with a friend. Easy to get a table and they have both indoor or outdoor dining options. However, it was still busy even mid day on a Thursday. Their service is excellent. I opted for the chopped salad with chicken and my friend ordered the ahi tuna salad. Both were so good and came with a slice of bread. The server was doing his best but absolutely worst quality steak I've gotten. The meat was white it looked like a pork chop rather than a filet. I told management and she completely disregarded what I said and was trying to take more stuff off the bill. We don't want free food we want quality food and to be heard when our steak comes out rancid. Absolutely terrible management the woman was unwilling to see what I saw. Y'all...wedge salads are dying. They're on the brink of extinction. It used to be every diner in town had one and now you have to search high and low...go to the ends of the Earth just to find one. Well fret not, Ninjas...cause they have wedge salad here! And the wedge salad is hearty. Big chunks of roughly chopped eggs, onions, lots of crispy bacon pieces, diced tomatoes, huge chunks of blue cheese. I was in heaven. Crispy Parmesan tater tots. Great service. Lots of space. Clean bathrooms. Not too crowded. A wonderful bar near the entrance. I'm coming back with a date. Keep your trendy spots. Jill's is a comfortable and comforting classic with wedge salad. My sister came into town & we were brain storming where to go for dinner. I could not believe she has never been to Jills!!! She was born and raised in Santa Barbara! Stumbled in on Saturday just before the Farmer's Market to grab a quick breakfast bite and stayed longer than intended due to the exceptional courtesy and friendliness of Karch and Tony! They went out of our way to make us feel at home and their hospitality is incomparable. Right away we were greeted warmly and treated like family in an already inviting atmosphere. We went to Jill's Place for dinner with family earlier this month. We needed a place we could go with no reservation and a toddler in a stroller, and a friend recommended Jill's just days after Memorial Day, when we'd feasted on Shalhoob steaks. It was a great choice. We were able to walk in and take over a comfortable booth. The space was casual and relaxed, and service was excellent. Even our kid had a good time. I got a Firestone IPA and a 1/3 pound ground beef burger--a very hearty, satisfying dinner. The burger was solid, with a nice, flavorful patty on a brioche bun. I added grilled jalapeño and kind of tackily brought my own avocado--not because I was trying to save the buck fifty, but because my baby was supposed to eat it but decided he'd rather have fries instead. To his credit, the fries were tasty, and he looked very cute eating them. We also both enjoyed a side of mashed potatoes. I tried my husband's baby back ribs, and these were decent, if not my favorite. They were super meaty, which was good, but with more of a pork chop than a tender barbecue texture. Next time, I might go for one of the steaks, but I liked my burger and beer. What I love about Jill's place is it just feels so darn local. The food is solid; the service is genuine and the atmosphere is fun. When we were there, Jill was enjoying dinner with a friend while keeping an eye on the place. All main entrees come with house made split pea soup, salad, bread and potato choice. I did not know think that I like split pea soup but it was delicious. I had the lamb and it was cooked just right. My husband had the dry rubbed ribs and enjoyed them. Our friend had the arugula and steak with chimichurra salad. It was quite a good size and everything was really fresh. If you do not eat meat, this may not be the best choice for you. I think there was one vegetarian option and a couple of fresh fish choices. Next time, I want to try the fried chicken. Everything that a neighborhood restaurant / bar should be!!! I've been going to Santa Barbra from Los Angeles for 30 plus years and decided to Yelp and try a new restaurant. So on the way back from Chumash Indian Casino my wife and I found this little gem. It was decorated with beautiful little lights and some fantastic photos. It was warm, charming and inviting. All the staff and patrons seemed down to earth and really chill. Our waitress was fantastic!!! We enjoyed a great meal and will definitely come back whenever in town. The bar was really cool and had an ol fashioned kinda of vibe. The parking was ok as we found a spot not too far away. The one thing I tried and did not like was the rice, it was very bland and had little flavor. The filet was as good as any steakhouse and was cooked perfectly! The veggies and mashed potatoes were great as well. Our split pea soup and salad was soooooo delicious and the warm bread that came out was equally as good! Our drinks were good and our carrot cake and bananas foster was the perfect way to end the evening. I just love it when I find a random place with a friendly staff and totally awesome food! Definitely fulfilled our cravings for steak tonight. I was especially blown away by the service as they were extremely attentive. One of the guys, stunned by how quickly we finished the soup, said "Oh my you guys look hungry, let me hurry and get the bread!" and dashed to the kitchen and came back with toasty fresh garlic bread in a heartbeat. Hahahah that made such a great impression on us! My boyfriend ordered the New York strip steak entree which comes with soup, salad, and another choice of side (he picked mashed potatoes). I ordered the steak bites and garlic fries. Side note, they definitely cook on the more rare-er side. He ordered his steak medium and it came out more medium rare - but still delicious he said. I ordered rare and as you can see in the picture, it looks like the cow was going to moo back at me. I didn't mind this so it was still so delicious, flavorful, and filling! The steak bites was actually an appetizer but it was sufficient as a stand-alone meal for me. It came with a creamy sauce which I'll know now to ask for an extra one next time - super yummy! It was our first time here and we were pretty worried about parking but there was plenty of street parking available. We felt safe eating at this restaurant as the tables were sufficiently spaced apart and the heat lamps kept us warm. If you are craving a steak, this is the go-to. We are thrilled we landed on this spot for our last supper in Santa Barbara during hubby's birthday trip. He was craving a steak and all Yelp signs pointed here. The food was excellent, they had safe COVID-dining options, and service by Taryn was two-thumbs up! Pay the extra fee for spaghetti as a side dish to your steak and you'll thank me later. (I won't be able to eat steak without it now!) Parking can be tricky along the street as you're competing with other spots in the area but it's well worth the few trips around the block. They accept reservations - which was a plus - and their menu is quite extensive. We will definitely return the next time we are in SB! read more

1st time eating here & it was Christmas Eve. Perhaps that played into the terrible experience we had. We're vacationing in SB & wanted a good steak, a wedge salad & some delicious brussel sprouts & drinks. This is not the place for any of these. Steak was OK, but I expected more. The rest of it, terrible. Brussel sprouts were dry & raw. We couldn't even cut them with a knife. Lots of pepper & that was about it in the way of seasoning. Wedge salad arrived chopped. Came with egg on it & bacon tasted like it was from the bottle. 45 yrs of drinking gin & tonics & I've never had one like this. It tasted like they'd not cleaned their soda hose for months. We had reservations, but the hostess (owner) had a different name & honestly was pretty aggressive. She took us to a table in the hallway that had no chairs or silverware so they had to get them. The last waitress that served us was nice. The earlier one was nice but messed up our wedge order. 1st she brought 1 & then had to bring a second which was subpar to the 1st. I only wish I'd taken pictures & sent it back like I did the drink. I don't know if it was because it was Christmas Eve or personal, but in any case, we won't be returning. read more

What a disappointment. The food was awful. My husband ordered filled mignon medium rare. It arrived raw, the outside was not even browned. I ordered Sea Bass, that was also not browned or nicely seasoned. It looked and tasted like they dropped 2 pieces of fish in boiling water and plonked it on the plate with boiled spinach that had not been drained. The fish and spinach came swimming in water. Then to top it all, it was so salty that I could not eat it. The salad dressing was the cheapest bottled dressing. The rice was like the instant boxed rice. I was passing through Santa Barbara on Memorial Day weekend and stumbled upon this amazing restaurant. Not only was the food delicious and the location was perfect with ample parking, but the staff was phenomenal! The staff was so sweet, they continuously checked in on me and always had a smile on their faces. I brought my little dog Hamilton and they brought her water and kept making sure she didn't need anything it was beyond kind. The food was delicious and their cocktails were made to perfection. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. I'd suggest making a reservation ahead of time just to make sure you have your ideal seating arrangement. I also noticed a lot of high schoolers celebrating their prom at the restaurant. The restaurant made the prom parties tables look very cute for the special night. They definitely put notable effort into making their guest feel special and enjoy themselves. I admired this extra special touch. 10/10 experience. read more

On a recent trek up to Santa Barbara, my friend and I hit Jill's up craving some steaks! Jill's was on point! It was very reasonably priced and the quality of the steak was excellent! Each entre comes w/ soup, salad, and 2 sides. So, really a bargain compared to some big name steakhouses. That said, it is a very casual establishment. Fitting to the overall SB vibe. Given that this is owned by one of the best meat purveyors in the area, it's not surprising! This is no frills eating and drinking and worth every cent! Yelp is broken!! It can't be possible that I have never Yelped Jill's place before... they lost my review?? Probably not, most likely it is my faux pas my most egregious accidental yelp omission. So here goes: The reason I'm so shocked is that Jill's is my go to. "Where can we get a good steak?" "Jill's". "Who has the best happy hour?" "Jill's". And now "Where is the best breakfast deal in town?" "Jill's!!" I'm here at least a few times a month. I love the Happy Hour 4:30-6:30 M-F. I often get the Martini, I order mine with gin and it goes so well if they are playing Sinatra music. The sliders are great but I enjoy the steak bites. Chicken on a stick is pretty good too and it comes with potatoes and gravy. I really do love the breakfast too, have ordered it for office breakfasts on occasion. It's called Jill's Place because it really is Jill's Place. Jill Shalhoob is the owner and she stems from Santa Barbara's most prominent meat supplier. $14 for a cheeseburger I expect something pretty special. While the patty was cooked as I requested there was no flavor to the meat. It was a sad, gray patty on a too big of a bun. Also you'd think a side of fries would come with that or maybe a small, simple salad...but no. My side of onion rings / fries was so sad...three onion rings and about twelve half fries.
