We had our Ford Ranger prepped for our move to the southern tip of the Baja peninsula. Zero problems. Everything functioned perfectly.

Had AAA tow my car here, because it was AAA certified. My car would not start, I told them that I had tried to jump it but that it still would not start. They told me they would look it over and let me know what the next step was. I received a call later explaining that it was "definitely a bad starter." After paying $480 for a new starter and labor cost, I drove my car home. The next morning my car failed to start and showed the same symptoms. Upon the shop taking another look, they noticed that it was actually my battery that was not functioning correctly (how would they not notice this previously??), and that I would need to replace it. Kindly enough they decided not to charge me for labor costs on the instal of a $175 battery that better last me 7 years as promised. All of that aside, they instructed me at the time of pick-up that my brakes were at 3% and that I needed to replace them IMMEDIATELY. I decided to take my car to Les Schwab. They inspected my brakes for free and informed me that both front and rear brakes were, in fact, fine. Go somewhere else. read more

After thinking my mechanic (Lee's Auto on Hwy 99) was trustworthy, they knocked off a lifter from valve one during a simple maintenance tune-up. NOTHING was wrong prior to dropping off, but after picking it up, a loud rattle came from my engine. At the time I had no idea what happened, I just knew they clearly did something wrong therefor I complained to them. They denied everything, leaving me to go elsewhere. Mechanic after mechanic said my engine had blown and I was SOL. This is where Dave from Jim Adams Auto come in. He did an unofficial evaluation and guessed it might be a simple lifter knocked off. Low & behold... It was! The cheap diagnostic fee went towards my bill (instead of adding it) and I was out in less than a day with a perfectly running car that if I had listened to all of the other mechanics, I would have junked. This man is an exceptionally honest and straightforward man who does things the old fashioned and honorable way. Repair failed after 1 year. They installed a distributor without any thermal compound underneath the ignition control module and it overheated causing intermittent failures. It was a nightmare to diagnose and cost me at least $600 on top of the $723 for the distributor. Car left me stranded and had to be towed 50 miles home. Dave blamed his parts supplier and refused to do anything for me. He kicked me out of his shop yelling and pointing his finger in my face. Bad business. read more

made appointment to check front suspension (inspection only) for 8:30 AM advised them it was a work vehicle and needed back as soon as possible. THIS WAS AN INSPECTION ONLY . didn't get called to pick up truck until AFTER 2:30 .How long to test drive, put on lift , determine needs idler arm and ball joints, write up estimate? Biggest problem though was size of estimate. $500 parts and labor for ONE idler arm ,which is mounted by two bolts on frame, one nut to remove on the steering end. Staggered by this estimate,Ii researched internet auto repair forums to confirm this was a reasonable cost for this repair. Staggered again to learn that professional AND shade tree mechanics consistently advise this repair can be done in from 30 minutes to an hour and a quarter depending on having the right tools My reference :(google= "chevy astro idler arm replace") The best quality idler arm on the internet sells for $70 The forums also all advised to NEVER replace only one idler arm, only as a pair. (so, conceivably I would be back within a few months for them to do the other side for another $500 bucks) Won't bother with details on the ball joint figures. read more

Dave traced down an electrical problem in our 2000 toyota. he was diligent, and did not replace parts needlessly. the culprit turned out to be a short in the glove box light fixture. he could have sold us a new alternator, but he kept running tests until he found the component that was drawing current when the ignition was turned off. i recommend this shop for tough troubleshooting or routine maintenance. we've used them for 15 yrs. read more

Received very poor service at Jim Adams Auto - brought in because car was hesitating when accelerating - not all the time - but noticeably hesitating - the girl at the front desk said she took car for a spin and didn't notice it hesitating, straightened floor mat (she thought because it was slightly bunched up may have been the problem) and charged me $72. i brought to another mechanic, they thought it might be fuel filter, did a diagnostic, nothing came up on that, took it for a ride, i asked for a tune up, i got that, an oil change, new air filter, all new wipers, topped off the fluids, washed my car inside and out. When i picked up the car the mechanic and i went for a drive to see if we'd notice it hesitating, still did nothing, but they did all that for $71 - less than i was charged at Jim Adams for STRAIGHTENING MY FLOOR MAT!!!! read more
