    Breakfast is prepared!
    Richard P.

I jumped at the chance to enjoy a breakfast at Jim Dandy while I was on the road for my latest Tenderness Tour event. This Tipton, Indiana restaurant is part of the Indiana-based small chain of Jim Dandy restaurants that offer up simple meals at fair prices. Want fancy? That's not here. This looks and feels like a local restaurant. It's clearly a gathering space for locals and Jim Dandy has always been a chain more present in smaller Indiana towns and cities. It's a small chain now. At one point, it was a regular stop on my Tenderness Tour events - partly because they were always very generous about sponsoring meals for my wheelchair-based activism and partly because I simply knew I would meet locals there. Jim Dandy has a handful of accessible parking spots and a decent ramp. The layout is pretty wheelchair friendly. I was dining with my road crew for the day and the three of us sat at a 4-top. The mostly younger employees were super friendly and enthusiastic. Our server was amused when she asked us how we were and I innocently announced "Dandy!," a word I use often because I'm a nerd. I don't usually eat much on the road, but I was on my last day of the tour and I had a short day. So, I splurged a bit and ordered French toast and a side of has browns with my usual unsweetened iced tea. The unsweetened tea came in a generous glass - and this pleased me since I wanted to make sure I was hydrated for my day in the sun. The food? It was decidedly average, though one of my companions had a particularly satisfying meal. There's not a lot of fancy to these meals. It's simple but it met my needs. The French toast was very average, the hash browns a notch up. However, I enjoyed it and would easily order both again. It looks like they have a small breakfast buffet (due to changes in the pandemic's status, buffets do seem to be making a comeback). Jim Dandy started in 1964 in nearby Noblesville. I believe Tipton and Noblesville are the only two locations at this point, though it's always been a small chain. They used to offer curb service - until the 1980s - but responded to the pandemic by offering a "Curb to Go" option. When I go to smaller cities, I love places like Jim Dandy. It's a place to meet locals and to have an affordable, decent meal. Our server, whose name I never did get, was a delight and this was just a great way to kick off my final day on this particular tour event. I'd easily return when I'm in the area.

Busy place, likely locals and also visitors at the bear-by Horton French Market. The local farm market had closed, so I thought I'd try here. The parking lot was full and nearly all inside tables, filled. Havent had liver n onions in ages, and decided that with ham n bean soup and coleslaw sides. The sides were tasty, but not the liver; which was nearly tasteless, as was the crunchy bacon on top. The lady sitting next to me had chicken salad and said it was generously piled over cantaloupe and was 'excellent'. Next time..

I have to say that I love this place. There is so much to choose from and all of it is very good. There is a ton of parking that is very easy. It is set up very safe with social distancing. While the salad bar is not an option anymore due to Covid, The salads on the menu are amazing. Everyone here is like one big family. It's such a homey environment and the police I want to be. Definitely would recommend.

Sub-par buffet food. Nothing to write home about, and I would only return if there was nowhere else open.

If you just have to have something to eat it will do. Known for high prices and surly service. Family owned but they don't eat there

The best cole slaw in the world. I grew up with it and now I get some every time I come home. Good pork tenderloins too.

The Alley is literally a converted alley with artwork painted on the buildings, some tables and then some lights hanging above it, but this humble space creates a great little place for people to gather and create a sense of community.

The Alley is literally that: an alley next to the Subway & Pizza King that has multiple tables with bright red umbrellas for comfort. An arching metal gateway spans the entrance from Main Street. On the north wall, student artists (2018) contributed small murals that fill in where windows used to be found in the wall face. One of the pieces includes local muralist Tanner Fernung's character from the animated movie "Up!". On the south wall are larger murals. There are two historic composites of the downtown area done by a local photographer. There is also a pair of giant angel wings (again by Fernung) that are intended for "selfie" photos. However, Fernung is a big man (plays offensive lineman for Manchester University), so the wings and angelic crown are quite high and may require some trick photography to get the wings to line up with your body. The Alley adds a bright spot for locals and visitors to stop and enjoy the artwork and view of the courthouse. It also is a great way to support the local artistic talent in the community. The parking lot tailgating before dinner is half the experience. Where else can you sip a drink next to a pickup truck, make friends with complete strangers, and then walk inside to eat a meal that makes you question every life choice that led you to lesser restaurants? The food is absurdly good. The famous Perkinsville Pork deserves its own state holiday. Portions are generous, flavors are bold, and the menu somehow manages to feel both elevated and unapologetically Hoosier. Service was friendly, the atmosphere was chaotic in the best possible way. Everyone having a great time. Come hungry. Come early. Bring a folding chair for the parking lot. Leave wondering why every restaurant isn't this much fun. 10/10. I'd drive past three chain restaurants and a dozen sensible decisions to eat here again. Will be back soon.

I can definitely understand why people will tailgate just to get in for dinner. We started off with the meatballs, the pork loin, and the pierogies. The pork loin is a must get, and the other others were delicious as well. For my entrée, I got the pork loin as well because it was so good as an appetizer, and before that I started with the tomato soup, which was also excellent. Addison was our waiter and was extremely attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. We had a party of over 10 people and he handled it flawlessly. If you're in the mood for something out of the city in a little bit of a change of pace, I would highly recommend trying here.
