My first BBQ restaurant in Nashville, and I had the brisket with mac and cheese (and something else, I totally forgot)! How was the BBQ brisket, you asked? It was not my favorite :( It was terribly dry. I had to douse it in the BBQ sauce that was offered on the table. Mac and cheese wasn't as good either. This dish was 2 stars, but I gave another star because of the CHEESE BISCUITS. Wow, those are some sweet, savory, and fluffy goodness. Because they kept on bringing them in, I kept eating them more. The biscuits were the highlight of the meal. Service was nice and they also had an impressive bourbon and whiskey menu. Would I come here again? My wife and I went here for a rare lunch date. We were very pleased with lunch. The atmosphere is great and of course smells like a BBQ inside. Our waitress (originally from Michigan) was wonderful and very attentive. Although I did not drink any beer, I did notice that they had some local craft beers available which in itself will draw me back here. The craft beer selection is not huge but, the choices available were impressive and quite honestly surprised me. I had the the double decker beef brisket and pulled pork which was very tasty. Jim N Nick's is what you'd get if Disney opened a BBQ joint. Cliche' music playing in the background, employees dressed like they are working at Splash Mountain and pictures on the wall of traditional southern BBQ joints. Seriously? You put a picture of Archibald's from Tuscaloosa on the wall? The food is good, even really good but it comes up short in my book of an authentic southern bbq joint. It's just too darn safe, too darn corporate. The server was a fish out of water and had no idea what a chopped mixed sandwich was. They had to bring over a manager who knew what we wanted and assured us "there's a button on the computer to order that". Jim N Nick's is a popular chain that's a great place to take yankee friends but there really are better places out there. read more

We happened upon this place late in the evening after a stressful day of traveling. The atmosphere was nice & the staff was friendly. It's definitely very Southern. When you are seated and the waitress takes your drink order you are brought a small plate with about 6 (maybe more) warm, cheesy cornbread muffins. They were SO GOOD! I ordered the 1lb ribs with the potato salad and mac & cheese. The ribs come rubbed & have that smoky flavor. There is no sauce as it is in a bottle on the table. I got the plain BBQ sauce (the other was a habanero bbq sauce) which tasted just that way. To me, it almost tasted like ketchup. However, it worked with the ribs which were thick but not as meaty as I had hoped. The mac & cheese is AMAZING and definitely isn't from a box. I apso got the potato salad which I did not like. However, that's my problem & not theirs. I am from Ohio and we use just celery in our potato salad. Theirs has a relish taste to it which seems to be a southern thing. My husband had their baked beans which were also really good. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is up for some good homestyle cooking. read more

The most interesting dining experience in a long time, $85, platter of very good meat showed up at the table, with cold fries and cold mashed potatoes. This was before our appetizer and initial drink order arrived. Family style bowls of sides had no serving spoons, we had to ask for plates to eat on and 3/4 the way through the meal the 3 deviled egg app came to the table. I've had a couple of bad experiences here, mostly due to the service I received. I'm not sure they put enough emphasis on good service here! I love the food tho, so I contacted management and they gave me a gift card to give them another try. My latest time around I got the food to-go so I didn't have to deal with the service lol. I have to say, this is the way to go! The food was great and the timing was effecient, the girl running the to-go stuff wasn't the friendliest but I'm tired of complaining about their staff, I just expect it now. I really wanted to like this place. It is in a prime location; however the food needs a lot of work. I have been to this location twice and have been disappointed both times. The first time I went I had the Carolina pulled pork, which had very little flavor and seemed as if it were more than a day old. The second time I had the beef brisket, the meat itself was a little better quality than the pulled pork but the sauces they have to accompany it are not very good. The reason why I will never be going back to Jim N Nicks is because of the absolute garbage they served as a Bloody Mary. The taste was how I'd expect sewage water mixed with a healthy amount of ketchup to taste. I will not be going back. read more

I went through the drive through this go-around. It was not fast service. I spent about 20 minutes in line - only 2 cars ahead of me. Their presentation was beautiful for "fast food". The fries were delicious. The sandwich was good but the BBQ sauce was a little thin for me. A large soda, BBQ sandwich and hand cut fries for $9. Not too bad. So tried it again, this time on lunch with my wife. Got the rib tip appetizer before our meal possibly expecting it to be like famous Dave's. Was not the case. Looked like they took a rib and just chopped the heck out of it. Bone and meat and cartilage does not make a tasty starter. The BBQ here is amazing! I shared a whole chicken & it was full of flavor & nearly falling off of the bone! So tender, it will make you want to kiss the cook! I had potatoe salad & mac & cheese for sides & they both were wonderful right along with the cheese biscuits (which in my opinion are better than the famous cheddar bay biscuits from Red Lobster). It's reasonably priced (about $14 for a whole chicken). This place fulls up fast for dinner so get there early! Our waiter was attentive & friendly & the service was great. I ordered the two meat combo, their perfectly smoked baby back ribs and tender brisket. I also want to mention their delicious potato salad. I'm sure it's made with a horseradish mayo. A friend recommended this place while visiting the area for work so decided to go. As for the food it was ok. I wouldn't say it was the best BBQ I've ever had but certainly not bad. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and it was good but the fries were burnt and the baked beans were just ok. Must say though the banana pudding was amazing! This probably would have been a 3 star recommendation except for the fact our waiter was amazing! Very friendly and right on point! Ordered pulled chicken sandwich (heads up, their chicken isn't shredded it's just chunks-yuck) and I get home to a pink (not cooked thoroughly) chicken sandwich. Our family ate at Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q last night. Although it was a Friday evening, we were seated promptly and the server was prompt and friendly. My wife had the BBQ chicken (pulled) and I had a pulled pork plate with slaw and fries. Our food was delicious. Although our server was prompt to refill drinks, a side order of collard greens that I had requested never arrived. I fully expect that if I had mentioned that oversight, it would have been corrected, but we had plenty of food without it. The muffins served at the beginning of the meal were especially delicious. The noise levels were pleasant -- enabling meaningful conversation. I always appreciate that. Overall, it was a good value and worth visiting again in the future. read more

I stopped in to Jim N Nick's for a quick lunch. The service was friendly and prompt. I can best describe the restaurant as the Applebee's of BBQ. It feels like a chain restaurant in every way. The menu has some interesting choices, but I always go with pulled pork at a BBQ joint. The pork was good but not great. There were two BBQ sauces at the table, a sweet BBQ or very spicy Habanero. The sweet was tasty, but the Habanero was a bit much for my taste. My favorite part of the meal was definitely the cheddar biscuits... mouth watering perfection. I could have filled up on those alone. Once you get over the chain restaurant atmosphere, Jim N Nick's isn't a bad choice for BBQ. read more

Terrible. I used the drive thru because, you know, that's what people do when they're picking up food quickly. I literally waited over 20 minutes with one car in front of me. Did an oven go out? Did someone walk off the job? No! They made me, and everyone now behind me, wait so they could bake biscuits for the person in front of me. Hello? How about asking them kindly to pull forward to wait for their food that you know is going to take an excessive amount of time? SO FRUSTRATING and a complete waste of my time. Put our name on the waitlist and were told it'd be a 35-40 min wait... half the tables in the restaurant are empty! People are lined out the door. I asked if they were saving them for a large party and the hostesses said no and acted very busy and annoyed. Just a bad experience. Food quality and service quality and attitude of server. Ordered chicken tender salad with double chicken. Did not double but the server argued she saw them add it. Ha! How's that for service. The manager agreed it looked "on the lighter side" of double. No refill during the meal and took forever for a check. Very disappointing experience. In Nashville to meet up with my college roommate to take our minions to the zoo. After a long day of animal (and people) watching, we were ravenous. With 4 kids (10 & under) to appease, my friend suggested Jim 'n Nick's. The hubs was ecstatic. After 4 years of enduring Eastern Carolina BBQ (we are not fans), we were more than ready for some real 'cue. Ultimately, it fell short. We'll probably go back, but will definitely keep search for our Holy Grail of BBQ. Side note: our first BBQ was Billy Bob's in Pensacola ..which has been our standard against which all others are judged. + the facility was clean ..even the restrooms. + my BBQ plate was tasty; the meat was moist but the sauce was a bit thin. BBQ chips and fruit (watermelon) for my sides. Chips were tasty and better than the (up charge) onion rings. + the hubs went with the four meat platter and was mostly pleased. Hot links were charred/overly crisp on the outside. Ribs (up charge), brisket and pulled pork were all tender & tasty -and did not require a slathering of sauce to take them down. + the hubs LOVED the habanero BBQ sauce -big kick + big flavor. + dessert portions (chocolate pie, peanut butter pie) were reasonable; not obnoxiously large, and three bites more than I should have had. - our waitress was weak -especially for 8 people with easy orders (no special requests/dietary restrictions/etc). My water sat empty for the better part of my meal and was only refilled when she returned to bring us our check ...and she was a little annoyed when we opted to order dessert instead. - freezing. The temperature near our table had to be 65* ..we were uncomfortably cold and the kids wore raincoats (the only jackets we had stashed with us) inside. It was a pleasant 85* outside. do you want to build a ? - the pickle was a funky, day-glo green, super thin and maybe the size of a quarter. For me, this is disappointing. - one kid had shrimp (fried) and the batter was heavy. Another kid had the pork slider -decent portion. Another had chicken and cheese quesadilla which actually looked tasty. Last kid had grilled cheese -all reasonable portions (minus the shrimp) for kids. read more
