Skillet-Fried Chicken, Sweet potato casserole, fried okra

I'd give the food a 3.5 probably but the service was nice and we enjoyed ourselves overall, so a 4 it is! I'd had Barbara's in my Nashville-area bookmarks and so when we took a day trip up to Brentwood for my dad to take a wood working class, we decided to visit here! This restaurant is basically a small house in a more suburban part of town. Parking is kinda limited. Upon walking in, you'll be greeted by a pleasant host. Decorations are mostly signed memorabilia from famous folks who've visited. It was exciting to see something signed by my namesake, Baillie and the Boys! I thought they were a pretty small act since I'd never seen much about them anywhere (my parents just liked the name), but as soon as we were seated, I looked up and there it was! Glad my parents changed the spelling to something a bit more conventional, though. ;) There's a medium-sized cooler containing desserts and take home items like chicken salad and pimento cheese. The menu is written on a blackboard. Some things are constants but there are also specialties depending on the day. Our waitress was very pleasant and answered all our questions to our satisfaction. Every table is brought out a few yeast rolls to start their meal. This was maybe my favorite part! So soft, warm, and yeasty. My mom and I ordered a sweet tea to drink and enjoyed that, too. For entrees, I got the fried chicken with sweet potato casserole and fried okra. My dad got chicken fried steak, greens, and mashed potatoes. Lastly, my mom got the poppyseed chicken casserole with fried okra and I thiiiink mashed potatoes. Now usually at country cooking/meat and three type places, I tend to think the sides shine and the entrees/meats fall flat, but that was not the case here! Everyone's entrees were delicious. My mom's chicken poppyseed casserole in particular was good, so creamy and savory! My fried chicken was boneless, which I didn't expect but do prefer. It had a nice, fairly thin breading, nice crisp, juicy meat. Same for the chicken fried steak. Unfortunately, the sides were mostly kind of bleh. The best thing was the fried okra -- good breading, super hot -- though it needed some salt. The sweet potato casserole wasn't very sweet and was a little stringy. But the mashed potatoes were the least popular item; my parents both felt like they'd had better frozen mashed potatoes. Kind of surprising! It's certainly worth a visit, though I wouldn't rank it up there with my favorite meat and threes or anything. The desserts looked yummy but we were too full to try. Stop by if you get the chance!

I really wanted to try some southern cooking when in Tennessee! However, I was nervous to not feel great after because usually that sort of food is filled with oil and just not the greatest for you. However, dang I can say that was not the case with Barbara's! The food tasted amazing and wasn't greasy or anything of that sort. The fried chicken was the best I ever had. I really think their could throw their breading on anything and it would make it taste good. The fried okra was also another win for me. My husband got the county fried steak and again it was breaded and fried so it was tasty. You don't feel bad after eating this food cuz it is quality!

Food was 10/10, the chicken tenders were lightly breaded and crunchy, Mac and cheese was perfectly cooked, and green beans were traditional. The house was adorable and had so much charm!

Catfish that was mid. Mac & Cheese that was mid. Greens that were super mid.

This food is okay. Needs more seasoning. Service was good. Building smells alil old. Overall okay just clearly could improve recipes and ingredients.

So this is Barbara when I went to this restaurant back in 2014...

With a 4.77 aggregate rating across all user-driven platforms and nearly 1,700 reviews to date, Krustaceans is much better on paper than it is in reality, a very overrated restaurant! As the highest-rated seafood joint on the entirety of Highway 70 across the America, it simply did not live up to the hype as I passed through Nashville. Perhaps I should have ordered crab or shrimp or some other boiled seafood which seems to be more of their specialty. But the fish and chips caught my attention. Beware, these aren't the fish and chips you'll find in the UK or the Northeastern United States. Instead of a crisp, beer-battered exterior, this is more like a catfish breading. And it's not bad, but it's just very different than the name would imply. The batter is probably too salty, but the fish is very fresh! The Cajun fries are horribly mediocre. They're definitely just frozen fries from a local supermarket with an uninspiring spice mix. The employees didn't seem very welcoming either, which was kind of sad since I was excited to be there. It's not a bad meal at all, but the ratings are way higher than they should be! If you're haphazardly shelling out five-star reviews, you've probably never had real seafood on the coast and have only inflated the truth for online viewers. Don't expect too much out of Krustaceans, hope for a decent meal, and you won't be disappointed.

I was hesitant to order, by the name of it. I thought it may be too spicy, but it's not spicy at all. It has the best flavor, and I have to admit I order the salad sometimes just because I have such a craving for that yummy dressing. I've never had anything like it, anywhere else. The grilled cheese sandwich is different too. It's served on Challah bread with garlic butter. It has bacon, roasted tomatoes, sharp cheddar cheese, and avocado. I wouldn't normally order a grilled cheese at restaurants, but I look forward to eating this one! My friend ordered the garlic bread appetizer for us, which was good too. It was Sourdough bread with garlic, basil, and extra virgin olive oil. It was served with house-made marinara. The marinara made me wish I had more of it and some pasta to serve it on. We finished our meal off with crème brûlée. Yum! I've never ordered anything at this place, and it not be delicious.
