Been a year or so since last visit. First notice was no upgrade to restaurant. Actually should be classified as a high price dive bar. The place is kind of a dump. And oh boy, prices are way more expensive. Most steakhouses Dont even have chicken fried steak on the menu. But at Jims it went from $16 to $27. I got invited to go, not my pick. At $27 it was one of the cheaper options. The burger was $17, and fish sandwich was $19. And they come with nothing. To add fries they are $5 for off the truck frozen fries or $8 for "hand cut " fries. A baked potato is $10. Those prices may not be shocking at all fine dining restaurant, but Jims is just an overpriced dive bar. BTW, the chicken fried steak was huge. Impressive on the plate. I made sure to have the gravy on the side to not make the fry soggy. The fry was soggy and lukewarm warm in temp. Lack of seasoning and no crispness is best description. Side salad was something you would expect at a diner. Worst part of the iceberg lettuce. Highlight was the baked Idaho baked potato. Problem is they brought me cold to fozen butter in foil and very cold sour creme. I spent 10 minutes building the potato they could have spent a little time trying to wow me. What a gem, looks like 1985 inside but the service and the food is outstanding. Our waitress gave us the best service we have had in a long time without being annoying. Didn't have a steak, but everything we did have was great. Will definitely go back. If they would just put a dimmer on the lights in the dining room! read more

There was a wait and I was able to get drinks in the bar area... As we entered the restaurant -This place is just as I remember it growing up...1st class! Hailey - (I think was our server) The pace at which our server had in plan was superb! The mountain of onion rings came out as did our delicious salad! The drinks never got low and really I felt truly valued as a customer through the dinner. My entree (split amongst the table) of chicken strips and sirloin tips was more than we could handle however it was decadent. Very juicy and pretty at that. (The flavors were awesome - thanks kitchen staff!!!). Dessert was offered however we had no room. I was super pleased and am very anxious to return when in the area again! We love the chicken friend steak at Jim's Steak and Chop House. it is the best! The service is friendly and attentive. The salad was cold and crisp and the salad dressings are made in house. Yummy ranch dressing. I highly recommend eating here!! read more

The food was spectacular, prompt and courteous service. The waiter, Ethan, went above and beyond for us. His service was exceptional!!!

Terribly disappointed. First it took a long time to be waited on but I'm okay with that. But when a table of 8 who came in after you gets their food first, when it's only two of us, that's irritating. We got the food and the potatoes were cold. One sent them back and it took another 15 minutes to get replacement. My shrimp would have been great but the batter had no taste. I guess the forgot the seasonings. The bread is dry white bread. The salad was iceberg lettuce with some of the big hunks not cut up with one cherry tomato, 2 beet slices and one piece of a shredded carrot. Onion rings were pretty good. Never refilled out water glasses. Won't be going back there. (But the bartender was great!) read more

This restaurant has been under new management and a slight name change for about a year. It still is a staple stop when I visit Pitt. The interior still needs a little more updating but I come here for the food! We came early on a Friday and were seated immediately. Paige greeted us with a basket of Frontenac bakery bread/butter and took our drink order and you have to have their hot, tender yet crispy onion rings as an appetizer. Our cocktails of the Appletini & Red Royalty were really good & came quickly. I had the sirloin tips & he got the filet. Both entrees come with a salad with beets(!) & a sideof fries or baked potato. We each chose the baked potato with sour cream. They do offer other sides as well. His steak was cooked to perfection, tender and has a delicious aged steak flavor(yes I did have a few bites of his). My tips (don't let the title fool ya) of 14oz of tender chunks of sirloins were tender and tasty as well. We were there Saturday, November 2, 2024 and the service was mediocre, but the food was not worth the price. It didn't have seasoning on steak or salmon. The chicken fried steak was a large portion, but for $25/ plate- a little ridiculous. read more

Service was terrible , server was rude. We never got our salads that was supposed to come with our meal. There was no point after our food came. Never seen the server again until she brought the bill. She informed us that the meals were the same price whether we got or salads or not. TOP SIDE OF RUDE. Was informed that they had no manager for me to talk to. Food was good but I'm not paying $100 + for a meal for 4 to be treated in this manner. Used to be such a good place to eat. Portions are very generous! Onion rings are yummy. Steaks are great. A little dated with the decor. Staff was friendly. The food... yum! Worth the price and nice place to take kids. Not a bar scene. read more

First time at Jim's Steakhouse but knew it's been around for probably 50+ years. We had a great meal steaks were delicious everything was good. The waitress told us upfront that they had a large party and service would be a little slow, but with cocktails, appetizers and dinner we were still in and out and just barely over an hour. Ordered food with our family. An hour and a half later we had to ask for our food to go due to time having passed and having other plans following dinner. Owner and chef, Frank Caputo, then came into the dining room and yelled at our table, causing a scene. We left money on the table for the drinks we had received, then left the restaurant due to the unnecessary hostility. As we walked to our car, Frank followed us out then threatened to call the cops for dining and dashing when we never received any food to begin with. Terrible service, and terrible display of how to treat other human beings. I would not typically go out of my way to leave a review, but the horrible and unnecessary way the owner spoke to my mother and other family members was incredibly unwarranted. I hadn't been to Jim's in years and was terribly disappointed! I got the ribeye no flavor, very tough and overcooked. I told the waitress and she said sorry.. not you want a another one? Wasn't looking for a discount or anything but a 32$ steak should be melt in your mouth. The salad dressing tasted bottled too. Onion rings were excellent. read more

We decided to try this place again after giving it some time to hopefully improve...WRONG!!!!!! First off the entire building is DATED AND DISGUSTING!!!!! The air vents are blowing this disgusting black dust. Wallpaper, bathrooms, floors, and tables were just filthy! We then had to wait two and half hours for our food, the waitress didn't even check on us or notify us that they were running behind! When we did get the food it was semi warm, at best! And they still charged us the full bill. DO NOT GO HERE UNTIL THEY HAVE PROPER MANAGEMENT, STAFF, AND AN UPDATED BUILDING. A good restaurant, obviously not Jim's, will be up to date on interior design, clean and have kind, communicative staff! This place is beyond a disappointment. read more

My wife and I were really excited to try this place. As it looked really nice on the outside. We walked in it was kinda out dated looking which is okay. We got seated nice our server was so nice she did an amazing job but the food... I could have saved me money and made better food at home. The bread was cold and stale. We got our food and I got a ribeye. Half of my ribeye was all fat and it didn't have no seasoning it tasted like a pot roast. My wife's filet mignon was burnt. When she ordered a medium rare. Worst place to eat!!!! The food had NO Seasoning on it at all!!! The best thing was the fries. They at least had salt on them. They came out and asked my husband how he wanted his pork chop cooked. Seriously it is pork you cook it till it is done!!!! Please don't waste your time or money!!!! We spent 70.00 and threw the food away!!! Sad part is it was a birthday celebration. I have been to Jim's steakhouse in the past few years when visiting family. I worked with Jim and Leroy and his family back in the 70s. It helped me put myself through college. The food was excellent, the onion rings, and steak were just like I remember. I met briefly with the owner and was excited to hear my comments. I remember a family came to the back door where I was washing the dishes. My family came wanted to know if he could spare some food for his family. Jim said wait here a minute! He proceeded to cook the family something to eat and sat out there and ate with them for a bit. So having met with the new owner, I felt that Jim's steakhouse was in good hands.
