As far as the daily specials- for $7.95, their butternut squash lasagna and portobello stir fry are healthy, delicious, and a decent price for the portion size. I am a new shopper to Jimbo's because I moved to the area. I have always been a Whole Foods/Trader Joe's/Henry's shopper, but now that I live next to Jimbo's, I'm finding that I go there more often as it's easier. It is very expensive...just like Whole Foods is. I do like some of the meats in the butcher section, but I still prefer to go to Whole Foods for my meats. I do LOVE the veggies and fruits that I get there...but again, expensive. I really really really LOVE Jimbo's granola. I'm a big granola eater and absolutely love their in-house made granola...no "flavors" like coconut, or cinnamon...just simple, yummy granola! I also really appreciate their "Wooden Nickel" program at check-out. All in all, I really love the place and living next to it works great. I wish it weren't so expensive, but I often offset my shopping there with going to Henry's/Sprouts and Trader Joe's. read more

Amazing variety of organic, natural foods.

I like this place, it has a lot of great stuff. However, like any other "organic" grocery store in San Diego, it is expensive!!! (Yes, say it with me - it is expensive to be healthy! Gosh nabbit!) I spent my first time here at the smoothie bar - which was really good. The only down fall was there was no line - at least none that I saw. The ordering system for the smoothie bar reminded me of Vapure. There was no line system and it was pretty much anyone who came in the store and not in somewhat of a line had first dibs. The smoothie bar by the way, follows the concept of juicing. You're basically paying someone to juice your fruits and veggies for you, and if you want added stuff (protein, fiber, fruit, vitamin C, etc...) they have that option for an extra cost. The smoothie itself was good. I will go back and possibly become a frequent buyer. read more

One of my favorite stores in the surrounding areas. I've been going here for about 5-6 years now. It's never too packed and the employees are usually helpful and cool. The deli has some of my favorite items that I pick up once or twice a month. And they always have my juices, teas or Smoothies I love. I recommend the "turkey sausage muffins(a healthy take on a drive thru breakfast sandwich)", "Mac & Cheese(with breadcrumbs on top!), pizza crusts, lasagna, panini's, delicious sandwiches( I recommend the grilled sourdough chicken or the Range Rover), smoothies and baked goods and while I'm not a vegan I love the vegan deserts. the only thing I wish was a tad bigger was the bar soaps selection. I love this place! My relatives live right near this shopping center and we go here to pick up sandwiches. I love their fresh selection. Today, I got the Cali wrap -- hummus, avocado, cheddar cheese, organic lettuce, organic tomato, organic cucumber, organic onion, sprouts, wrapped in a whole wheat lavash. Brought it with us to a Chargers football game. It was perfect. It's really huge and filling, and only six bucks or so. read more

I always end up spending more than I wanted to and usually eat half of what i purchased in the first night but the uber flavorful seasonal fruits and vegs are worth it. they have delicious premade meals and snacks and i go at least 2xweek for their healthful sandwiches. I HEART Jimbo's. I work a stone throws away and I eat here at least 3 or 4 times a week for lunch. The deli and hot foods is the bizz. The natural with bacon is the best. Their ultimate chocolate cake is the best chocolate cake I've ever had in my life. On Thursday's, their special is a healthy cheeseburger. For a healthy burger, it's pretty dang tasty. They even run out of burgers sometimes because there is such a demand for it. Sometimes they have fried chicken which is my favorite. Have it with a Grape Kombucha and you've got yourself a scrumptious meal. They have a huge selection of Kombucha. All the flavors. They also have samples littered throughout the store. Worth the drive, worth the price... hands down. I've been going to this place for breakfast and lunch for about a year now. The BEST soups you will find in San Diego... Blanco Chili? Turnkey Chili? Jimbos is the perfect place to drop in for lunch minus a few caveats. Their salad bar is awesome lots of choices! Even a few vegan dressings. You can make a sandwich, pick one up premised and they also have hot entrees. Service has always been exceptional, everyone is so friendly! Only problem is parking, the lot is always packed. And prices are a little high but expected, well worth it! read more

I've shopped at Jimbo's since Jimbo opened his first store in North Park some thirty years ago. I can't say I've ever had a bad experience. I like it better than Whole Foods. In general, the prices are slightly cheaper and I like many of the deli sandwiches here. read more

We're so glad Jimbo's is in our community. The selection is similar to Whole Foods but we much prefer shopping here as it is not as hectic and more convenient. Prices are definitely on the higher side so Sprouts is usually where we go for our weekly grocery trips. Jimbo's tends to have all of the hip new local specialty food items, including a wide range of high-end chocolates. Jimbo company policy is to give horrible service, and not even care, family of Jimbo's needs to step in, and take over because the people they have running their company is ruining their business, especially the location downtown San Diego in Horton Plaza that place just needs to close up, if you give all your customers bad service on a constant basis that won't want to come back and that's exactly what's happening in Horton Plaza and also if you tried to use their restroom there.... good luck .....because it doesn't lock, they will tell you that it locks but it doesn't and people will come in on you constantly whatever you do don't use the restroom there use the restroom at Macy's or one of the other locations don't use the restroom in Jimbo's unless you want somebody to walk in on you but it's so much worse than just the little bit that I've said here, the vitamin Department has horrible service, so does the smoothie bar but most of all the management the management there is the worst. I no longer live near a Jimbo's but I will literally go out of my way after work to head to the nearest one. Jimbo's Deli ... Amazing. First of all, their homemade herbal veganaisse is incredible. It's the regular veganaisse + garlic, dill, tarragon, etc. They make it in the back and I buy it in bulk at the counter. I could eat this shit plain, it's that good. I've tried a lot of their sandwiches and they really jam it packed full of veggies and the sandwiches are big so they're really a great price. I love their whole wheat lavash wraps. I'll customize my own sandwiches usually. Have not tried much of their hot food in the deli, but what I have had is very good. Only giving 3 stars since their produce section is pretty sad. It seems like most people don't buy their produce at Jimbo's as almost everything I was looking at was expiring shortly or expired. I don't know, maybe I came on an off day or maybe it's just the Caramel Mountain location. Salad mix was about to expire, potatoes were rotten, nearly all of the avocados had turned ... I could not find a single ripe avocado. They were almost all mushy. Every apple bag had bruised apples in them. Also the prices were very high, as expected in Jimbo's, but come on, as a heath food store, you should have ripe, fresh produce... I can't speak for the other locations, but this one's produce section was terrible... but the deli's are always phenomenal. :-) read more

Since we discovered that Trader Joe's is it's own 'organic' verifying agency (total hogwash) we stopped shopping there and spend loads of cash at this place every week. We find it to be worth it because of their commitment to truly edible, real food, GMO-free and gluten free options, and tons of great products we use as conscious consumers and eaters. We regularly buy hot meals from here too. The one unfortunate thing about this is that depending on who is serving it up, you may get just enough to wet your palette, or a substantial amount to satisfy you. There is one woman who works there that gives you about as much as it looks like she herself eats, which probably isn't much. Thank you to the staff members who are attentive to serve up man-size (or even human sized) portions. I'm also very thankful for all of the delicious desserts they sell here, many of which are ok options for those of us with food sensitivities or allergies. Smoothies are delicious, albeit a little overpriced for the sizes. It's also such a relief to find a lot of locally grown, totally organic, non gmo veggies....thanks for always doing a great job Jimbo's. read more

I used to work at this Jimbo's and I've also worked at Whole Foods. Jimbo's is far superior. In the Kitchen and Bakery they use organic whenever available. Whole Foods uses whatever is cheapest. 90% of what you eat in the WF prepared foods section including the salad bar is NOT organic. WF uses items with high fructose corn syrup in them YUCK! I don't care what those lame commercials tell you. That crap is nasty. They opposite is true at Jimbo's. I love how they very clearly separate the small amount of conventional produce from the Large selection of mainly local organic produce. It takes me 3 times longer to navigate my way through Henry's and WF's produce sections. I miss living in SD. Jimbo's is amazing. Also, previous reviewer said they didn't have a bulk section. This is incorrect. They have quite a large Bulk section located near the Produce section. Also there are tons of tables located outside and around the corner in addition to the ones inside for eating there. read more

This is the best place to shop for food in Escondido. I have a milk allergy and their Cashewghurt line is incredible. The Forager brand cashew milk selections taste so much better than any soy, goat, or coconut milk yoghurt options. Good selection of other dairy-free products, both fresh and refrigerated and frozen. Always have great deli meals as well. The employees are great, and I like to ask them for recommendations of popular or new products. We buy our big bulk items at Costco, but a lot of our daily food comes from Jimbos! read more

I am grateful that Jimbo's opened a store in 4s Ranch so that I don't have to go to the one in Del Mar which can be really busy. I like the fact that anything I buy in this store will not have anything 'bad' in it! I go here more than I care to admit because my girl thinks that I eat too many hamburgers and not enough vegetables. Because of this place, I also have drank more smoothies with weird combinations of even weirder ingredients as well as freshly made juices than I would actually admit to drinking. It's got a nice vibe to it and the organic fruit and vegetables are fantastic tasting. Sometimes the people working here are a bit short-tempered or disinterested and--oh--the prices are way higher than other stores around but heh--I figure sometimes you need to pay more for your health! read more

Hands down, this is my favorite grocery store to go to. It didn't used to be that way until I recently became a health nut and wanted all things gluten-free, organic and grass-fed. This is your one stop shop for everything healthy. I hate going to other groceries such as Whole Foods and Gelsens and find that half of their fruits and vegetables are non-organic! Sometimes, I would accidentally grab their non-organic stuff on the wrong side of the aisle and that would happen to me just too many times. It's so annoying. I love coming here and trust that everything is fresh and healthy without a second thought. I mainly come here for the grass-fed meat. The quality of the meat is incomparable to other stores. The rest of the stuff are pretty pricey though, so be a smart shopper and do your research on what are the best prices out there. However, whenever I am short on time for groceries, this is where I go. read more

I have been going to Jimbo's for quite sometime. The prices are of course more expensive than other grocery stores due to the organic selections that they have. The people that work there are also nice and helpful. However, I probably won't shop there again unless I really have to because of some personal experiences shopping at this store. I've had incidents where they charge twice on one of the items I purchased. Unfortunately, this happened to me twice. The first time, I realized it when I was in the car. So I went back to tell the cashier that she charged me twice on one of the items I purchased. Then, the manager checked everything in the shopping bag to make sure my statement was correct. After that, the manager refunded the money back. Weeks later, it happened again earlier today. This happened with another cashier. Unfortunately, I realized it when I'm already back at the house and already took out my groceries out the shopping bag! :( I would advice the manager to tell the employees to be careful when scanning the items. Although, I also should have paid more attention, these kind of incidents never happened to me anywhere else so I am really disappointed with Jimbo's. I also bought an expired item here and have to go back to the store to get a new one. So as much as I love Jimbo's, the incidents that happened has made up my mind to stop going there unless I really have to. read more

This is a terrific store.... part of a small local chain. I feel that I can trust anything in their store. Yes, prices are high.... however, my mother taught me to never scrimp on good healthy food. As a vegetarian (not vegan), my opinion is that Jimbo's is the very best restaurant in town for vegetarians. Their vegee burgers, vegee sandwiches, smoothies, hot case, vegetarians soups, and desserts [okay: their cookies are terrible, but their macaroons, ultimate chocolate cake, and coconut chocolate care are CRAZY good] are the best in town. I also think their produce section is the best in town, and yes, we are strictly organic. Also good: parking is good. This is increasingly rare at grocery stores, where you can circle for 10 minutes with sharp angles. I can park at Jimbos: thank you! Now the bad: I think the store is poorly managed. While the "deli" section is unparalleled in what they make, they are often totally slammed and understaffed. It's not unusual to find one person there most of the day, and maybe two at lunch: trying to make dozens of complicated smoothies and sandwiches. That makes no sense. Sometimes the wait can be 20 or 25 minutes: I feel sorry for them. It's not like this is unpredictable: it happens at lunch rush every day. In addition, they have a sign saying that you must order from the side counter, which is often completely unmanned, rather than the counter where they make the things and you are supposed to pick them up. I've stood at the order counter sometimes for 10 minutes before being helped. Remember, if I were paying Baron's prices or Trader Joe's prices, I'm happy to wait: but Jimbo's is as expensive as Whole Foods, but without the service. Bathrooms can be dirty. Napkin containers or water jug empty. And the staff can be pretty surly. I tried to joke with the cashier yesterday (who had a "manager" tag on) and I thought he was going to knife me: how dare we talk? We've been spending most of our income there for years: we miss the friendly staff from two years ago: the turnover has been to the non-talking types who look pretty unhappy. Again, kinda' strange for a place where I pay $125 for a couple of sandwiches, and one bag of milk and berries, even if they are delicious. read more
