We were greeted by an amazing woman from New York at the door with a joke! That was great! Our server Dawn was quick and pleasant so we decided to try their breakfast. I had the fried chicken special which consisted of a chicken breast split in half with a nice thin crunchy batter smothered in white gravy, 2 eggs I ordered over medium ( cooked perfectly ) grits that were not clumpy or runny like most places and lastly a biscuit. I will say The biscuit even advertised as homemade is not quite homemade as it's a biscuit mix, and was served cold. My partner had the 2 egg breakfast ( eggs scrambled ) bacon, hash browns that were actually potatoes cut up and French toast. The only down side to that breakfast is the sugar on the French toast was crunching between our teeth. Over all great southern style breakfast! I'm a disabled veteran that was refused service because of my service dog. I tried to show them the law on the DOJ website but they refused to look. I called the police to show them the law so they can explain it to them. The first officer diminished me and ordered me to leave which I refused to until a supervisor arrived. Once that happened they were informed that I have the right to bring my dog. I returned 2 days later and was allowed in to eat with my dog. Every one there still treated me horrible except for my waitress (Pam) who was nice. I ask to have the owner call me to discuss the situation and will see how that goes. They clearly were wrong and act like this was somehow my fault. I'm considering filings a lawsuit but if I do and receive compensation all proceeds will go to the VFF as I want nothing from them. I look through there reviews and found out this happens there very often. I glad I got law enforcement involved because they consistently do this to people with disabilities. read more

Great food! Awful awful awful set up. The advertised special said country fried steak with "waffle OR pancake OR 2 eggs, WITH potatoes or grits. Our server took our order and said "okay would you like waffle, pancake or 2 eggs?" My husband and I each said waffle.... the server then proceeded to ask us "okay great, and would we like POTATOES OR GRITS?" We assumed that the final option came with our meal, because it was advertised like that... Our server was amazing, the food tasted great... but the cashier that took our payment left an extremely bad taste. On our bill under each of our meals there was a +$3.50 charge. This place was posted as (1) $ on Yelp, and I think that is not true. We both got a normal breakfast special that was advertised, and my daughter got a $5 kids meal. This was my first time here and I have heard nothing but great things about it. I give it a four stars because the service was so great. The food I would give about 3-3.5. It's very diner like, it was served up quick, prices are pretty affordable and it's easy cooking. They had a ton of options on the menu which is always great. Our server was attentive, friendly and you could tell it was a real family like environment. I can't remember exactly the time that they are open but I remember it being a place that stays open super late. Which is always great in my book when you're looking for some good diner food! There were lots of photos all around from when the restaurant first opened and you can see just how far it has came, really shows that it's loved in this area and that's why it's been here so long. I must confess, I am a breakfast junkie. I love a good hearty meal in the morning. To that end, I'm always on the lookout for local breakfast joints. I had seen a sign for Jimbos for 6 months before being able to stop in for meal. If you are looking for an authentic southern style breakfast, this is the place. When I first visit a breakfast place, I always start my dining adventure there with a standard basic breakfast: Eggs, meat of some sort, grits, toast/biscuit and of course, the coffee. My thinking is that if they can't get that right, then why bother coming back much less write a review. PROS: The resturant was clean, wait staff is friendly and plentiful. There is plenty of seating and efficient air conditioning. The eggs were cooked to order perfectly, the grits were the right consistency and the bacon was crispy and tasty. All served on the same plate just like my grandma used to serve em. There is plenty of parking. TIP: If coming from Oleander, its best to enter via CVS to avoid the hassle of S. Carolina Road. Same thing when leaving. Exit through CVS because in my opinion, the intersection of Oleander and S. College Road is a tricky navigation. CONS: The only negative was the coffee. Personally, I prefer my coffee to be piping hot. The temperature of the coffee at Jimbos (even without creamer) is very "warm" but def not hot. Add one creamer and now you have luke warm coffee. By the time you need a 2nd cup, the coffee is cold. I got a 2nd cup and it was the same. Jimbos is still deserving of the 5 star rating in spite of the coffee thingy because coffee temp is my personal preference. Thats it. I will definitely go back. read more

These people asked if we had a real service dog, we told them yes, we had eaten here previously, they demanded paperwork which is illegal to do as federal registration is NOT required nor is a vest of ANY Kind. While my wife was getting our registration paperwork the "family" that runs the places started snickering at my son and speaking badly about us. I told my son to come with me and we would leave that we don't want to be here anymore. This is when the owner, you can check him out online, he is a real mean son of a gun. He said we don't want you here and then followed me out to berate me while I told him he was violating the law and being incredibly rude to a women with multiple conditions. yes, classic old timey diners still exist in north carolina. this is a classic 1950s kinda place. home cooking, fair prices, and southern waitresses. pam, our waitress, proves the south is still alive here in wilmington. this is a BREAKFAST house, but they have really good lunch specials. march 2024 you get a generous entree (we like the home cooked whole turkey), two sides and rolls for $12,95. service is warm, friendly, and excellent. this used to be a restaurant town, but not after the supposed pandemic, it's good to have a classic place like this to go to. read more

So this was my first time here and honestly it was hit and miss. We drove by and stopped in with no expectations. Let me start with the positives. Even though they were pretty busy we still got seated quickly and our waitress was very pleasant. The food however left some to be desired. I ordered the bacon filled waffle and cheese grits. The waffle was ok and had a couple nice straps of bacon in it but was kinda overpriced. The grits sadly were just not good. Jimbo's is your typical diner experience and customers should expect just that. The place feels like it's been around for years, and that's by no means a con. I can only comment on my two breakfast trips here so far, and both stops included your standard, no frills-style food. The operation runs smoothly, getting you seated, fed, and delivering the check during your meal in order to get as many customers in and out. Could be the reason why they keep it so frigid inside. This is probably my favorite breakfast place in ILM! It's such a cute diner with some of the nicest staff I've ever met! I have yet to go during the middle of the night, but lots of my friends say that nothing compares to a 3am Jimbo's visit. I love their French toast, bacon, and potatoes! They are all cooked perfectly and are so delicious! The coffee is served in the cutest little teacups with saucers. It reminds me of a place my grandparents used to talk about back when they first got married. I have been here 5 times, and I WILL be back! They re-cooked another omelet & brought it to the table (WOW-RAW EGGS AGAIN) so I sent it back again! They cooked another omelet & brought it out, the third one was a little better but still not done. Their hash browns are sliced boiled potatoes and grilled but ours was "COLD" and mushy. Bacon was way over cooked (Its was black) and the eggs were very small(looked like bird eggs). The only good thing was the coffee & the toast. If you are riding by here--keep on riding because this place is terrible!!! I don't understand the good reviews about this place.
