Had a late dinner with the girls; my first time at this location. Had a coupon in the car for BOGO on burgers. Woohoo! They honored my coupon. I was delighted that there would be no up charge to sub the burger patty for chicken. I went with the duke and the Santa Barbara with chicken. We got the Cajun fries and a beer. Pretty good deal. Surprisingly, they were running a special - a beer and a burger for $7. The other gals got that, with fries and mojo sauce. We sat outside. Employees brought our food out when it was ready. They didn't miss any items. We only had napkins on our table. No hot sauce. Is Altamonte the only location with a hot sauce bar? The Duke was excellent. Juicy burger topped with pulled pork- yum! The Santa Barbara was disappointing. The chicken is pounded thin yet it's still rubbery. I would've been happier with a piece of fried fish. The fries didn't stand a chance. We annihilated all the fries and their associated sauces. Service was great. They brought our food out to us on the patio and dropped off silverware and napkins. Does this location have a hot sauce bar like Altamonte? I didn't see one. The place shut down promptly at nine, with the music signaling their closure. We tossed our mess and thanked the staff. We stop here at least once a trip every time we're in Florida. This is where we discovered mango cart beer on draft and it is life-changing. I don't think we've gotten the same thing twice because everything we try is better than the last. From the boss sauce to the teriyaki chicken bowl it's all incredible and those chips chefs kiss!! we truly enjoy sitting outside, but the inside is so eclectically decorated. I came here with a group of 6 and a toddler. I didn't realize it was order at the counter and then sit. I usually love this concept but it took a hot minute for everyone to order. I honestly think they were just busy. I got one fish taco and one chicken taco. Both were delicious. The blackened fish was a tad spicer than I'd want and it seemed breaded which I wasn't expecting (next time the grilled!) The tortilla was skillet toasted and made a nice add of texture. I upgraded with queso and a drink. The queso was Yum! I even dipped my son's fries in it. The kids meal came with one of their huge cookies so I was happy to help my son with that. After our previous bad experience, the Jimmy Hulas team did all they could to rectify it. We were able to go again and try some dishes we haven't tried. Also, we noticed they have made some changes since the last time we were there. I did not know they had truffle parm fries, which are of course, my favorite. They were delicious! The dipping sauce that came with them had a little heat to it, I enjoyed it. I also tried the breakfast quesadilla and wow, that was super delicious. It is HUGE and stuffed with eggs, cheese, and meat and came with a side of guacamole. I definitely could have shared it because it was a ton of food! I took my leftovers home! They have made changes since we were last there. Like they have new champagne glasses with the Jimmy Hulas logo and served us with pitchers of mimosas on the table. They were definitely bottomless this time. I am very thankful that the Jimmy Hulas team went above and beyond and corrected this situation. (This is for the location in Melbourne FL, not Winter Park) Never been to Jimmy Hula's and thought it would be a fun experience. Won't be back. My husband's teriyaki beef turned out to be hamburger. Who has a beef teriyaki bowl that's not steak? My friend ordered a hamburger and fries. The fries were served first, like it was some sort of appetizer. We were confused as to this presentation. The hamburger was tiny, like you'd get at McDonald's. Not worth the money. My other friend had the Fire Roasted Avocado, and the avocado was the size of an egg. For $7.25! Definitely not worth the price. Only one kind of fish served in the entire menu, so not a lot of choice. All this was served with plastic utensils. Very underwhelming. Nice server; she tried her best. They did comp our meal after presenting us with the check, after we asked if they would discount the bill a bit since we were so unhappy. The restaurant was pretty empty at 6:00 on a Friday night: that should have been our clue to give Jimmy Hula's a miss. read more

1st off, the service and ambience here deserves 5 stars but let's be real, we go to restaurants for the food right? I went in with high expectations after being referred here by friends but left unimpressed. I ordered 2 fish tacos. The Voodoo with blackened fish and the Big Island with grilled fish. Neither taco was impressive. The salsa and toppings were good but the fish itself was so bland. I would have preferred corn tortillas but they used grilled flour tortillas which probably contributed to the blandness of the tacos. They renovated this spot. Renovation was much needed. The ambiance is much better. New TVs, benches, and the new look definitely made it a worthy visit. There is ample seating inside and outside. It's across from Starbucks and next to Panera. There is decent parking and it's located right next to bowling alley. The tacos were decent and portions were great. I ordered a pick up at the counter. This place amazes me every time. The first few times I tried the tacos and my favorites so far are Voodoo and the Kingston. Watch out for the Kingston, it's got a kick! Voodoo has been my usual order every single time. When I visited another time with a coworker, I thought it was so weird that she ordered Chicken Teriyaki bowl?!?! Seems so odd to order an asian rice bowl dish at a spot known for their tacos but boy was I wrong. I'm Asian and I know good chicken teriyaki and this bowl satisfies every time, the jasmine rice is a nice touch. BUT the last two times I ordered this, I think they mixed in the jerk sauce by accident or maybe they changed the sauce because it wasn't AS teriyaki-y like as it used to be. The first time it happened I thought it was by accident cause accidents happened but the second time it was the same so I guess the sauce got changed. Most recently, I don't know if this is on every menu but there was a special section for local favorites and I got the shrimp taco and I can't remember what they were called but it was PARTY in my mouth. The flavor of the sauce was so delicious, I was scraping the drippings with the tortilla haha. We landed here and it was a pleasant surprise. The way my buddy described it it sounded like it was going to be like any other Tex-mex chain. I got a Wipeout and Kingston with Mojo fries. I'm not a fan of mayo and the sauces on both were mayo based. They were both still really good. The tacos were decent sized. I probably wouldn't have been able to finish if I got 3 tacos. I added on the drink and mojo fries. The fries were really good. I couldn't quite put my finger on it but I think they use lemon pepper salt and probably a little garlic powder. I can't believe that it has taken me this long to review Jimmy Hula's. This is one of my favorite restaurants for hanging out and enjoying long conversations. The food is always spot on and the service is speedy. My only complaint is the bathrooms. The bathroom has been dirty every time that I've visited. On my last visit our table ordered many of our favorite tacos, fries, plantains and a hamburger. The Kingston was our favorite. It was made with jerk chicken, plantains,cotija, avocado and sauce. Had a disturbing incident at Jimmy Hula's Winter Park last weekend. I'm a regular been going there for years. I waited in line, a woman (glasses, blonde ponytail) was the (no name tag) cashier. I start to give my order and guy walks up. She stops and says "I'm going to wait on him". Stunned, I reply I was in line, she repeats "I'm waiting on him". I move down to the next cashier, I start to give my order and the first cashier *follows me to the next register* and says something to the cashier waiting on me. The second cashier says "she's waiting on you" and just walks off. I say to the first cashier that was really rude, I was in line before that guy (the guy did not wait in line at all). She shrugged and said "yeah". spoke to a manager later and he "apologized for her" , it might have meant something it it actually came from her. As a person of color, to have a white guy just walk up and get in front of you and to have the cashier follow you to another register was disturbing. read more

Approaching Jimmy Hula's, I began to be transported from the hustle and bustle of busy Winter Park to an oasis of peaceful relaxation. The tranquil island colors and large wrap around porch with outdoor seating immediately begins to evoke the islands. The journey completes indoors as the island theme continues with the signage, surf boards, and other tropical decor, providing a casual, relaxing and fun atmosphere. I headed to the counter to place my order. The staff was impatient at first, but became very nice and helpful when I explained this was my first visit to any Jimmy Hula's. With their help I decided on fish tacos, mojo fries, and ice tea. As I was headed to school, I had to forgo the array of tempting alcoholic beverages. I found a table, read a little bit, and visited with diners at neighboring tables. I always appreciate a restaurant where everyone is neighborly and nice. The staff delivered the food to my table. Unfortunately, that is the limit of table service. You must go to the counter to order more drinks or get refills. I was very impressed with the amount of ingredients packed into the taco initially. The tacos were stuffed. I was much less impressed when I discovered very little fish - just a few cubes along the crease at the bottom of the taco. The tacos were packed with mostly lettuce. Given the little bit fish, many bites contained just the other taco ingredients, an extreme disappointment. I enjoyed the generous helping of pineapple-mango salsa on the tacos. The salsa was delicious, tangy and sweet. However, the proportions were, again, not correct, and the generous salsa overpowered even the voodoo sauce from which I got no heat. The fries were a very pleasant surprise. I loved the flavors. I could taste black pepper and salt. I got hints of lime and some other spices my tastebuds couldn't identify. I'd go back and order the Baja bowl, which a friend of mine enjoyed. I would not order the fish tacos again. I would get the fries again. read more

I love the tacos and queso! I went last night Thursday and they had unlimited tacos for $13.99. Hands down the best tacos I've had in a long time. I ordered the steak tacos and also the blackened fish tacos. The only option is the tacos with creama, cojita, and salsa with any protein. Which happens to be my favorite one. Service was great!! Stopped in on the way home. My son ordered two of their 'Bangin' Beef' tacos. They were nice and plump, a bit messy, very filled. My son didn't so much like the Baja sauce. But that's him. Bacon, cheese, fried egg, tomato, ketchup, AND potato chips stuffed in. Seriously, everything I shouldn't eat. $8 was pretty much a steal.
