Driving I-40 on a Friday afternoon and noticed coolant gage issue. Found Advance Auto on the nearest exit (Kodak) and they did diagnostic and found thermostat needed replacing. They sent us over to Jim's with thermostat in hand and at 4:30 they said give us a few minutes and we will work you in. They fixed us right up and we are back on the road an hour later! I am a resident of Kodak and needed work done on my 2006 F-150. Was having torque converter shudder and needed it replaced. I frequent the convenience center in Kodak and couldn't help but notice a huge sign advertising Jim's Automotive. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called Jim and he stated that he did that type of work (I've always supported local small business) so I booked the job with him.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Now please understand that I am ASE CERTIFIED Technician with 40yrs experience. I booked this job with Jim as I am new to the area and do not have a lift available to me to do this job. The work was done on 5-1-26 On 5-26-26 my truck suddenly began to shake at high speeds and shudder at low speeds. This is text book tell tail sign of a torque converter pump fins falling apart. Upon speaking with (what I would imagine) be Jim's service writer it was confirmed to me that they used a remanufactured torque converter. These used parts have a 30% failure rate. From 2017 thru 2022 I was the Mgr of A Oreilly Auto Parts store 5227 in Miami Florida and never recommended any reman part to a professional shop due to their failure rate, this being a starter, alternator, a/c compressor and least off all a torque converter. The difference in price is minimal but the quality is monumental. Shame on me for not seeing any ASE signage and not following what I preach. Only allow fellow ASE Certified technicians work on my vehicles. Jim gave me a total BS story that what I was feeling was a misfire from the motor. He stated the the torque converter showed no sign of failure and would not be honoring the warranty. This is typical shade tree mechanic excuse. Was on a business trip in TN and ended up having a wheel bearing go bad while on interstate. Jim and Wendell saved our bacon today. On the way back from an overnight near Nashville, and the AC compressor decided to burn up, taking the alternator's serpentine belt with it. Four adults in the car, all NEEDING to work in Maryland on Monday. This was 9:00am Sunday morning. No one is going to be open. We're screwed, right? Nope! By God's grace, Jim told us to bring the car in. Jim, Wendell, and his team even drove to the closest auto parts store to get all parts. They fixed it all in less than 3 hours and got us back on the road. Their cost was better than reasonable. Just as we were leaving from getting gas and grabbing lunch. We heard a pop in the tire. We had to turn around and go into the shell gas station to see what happened. The front tire got a bolt punctured into it. Ouch! I googled a near by place that could repair tires and Jim's Automotive came up 6 minutes from my location. My my car spun a bearing while driving down the interstate. Had it towed to this place to see what the issue was. They said they would have an estimate for me by Monday but it took until Friday for them to call me back. Told me that they had replaced the starter WITHOUT CALLING ME AND ASKING IF I WANTED THEM TO REPLACE IT and then told me the engine needed to be replaced. THIS CAR HAD A WORKING STARTER ALREADY. Replaced a part that did not need to be replaced, and charged me 400$. The day after, I went back to speak to the owner for a refund and he tried to intimidate and assault me. Cops were called. Nothing done about the situation. Taking the matter to civil court. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE. THEY ARE CROOKS. read more

My car battery died on me 3-4's since February. I finally had enough. So, I went to advance Auto parts to get my battery checked. They said battery was good. Maybe it was the alternator. I immediately purchased the alternator. I called Cates automotive body work, they recommended Jim's Automotive for under the hood work. I called Jim's. Very friendly over the phone. I was encouraged to come in ASAP and I could get a professional to check my battery and see if it was in fact the alternator. Inexpensive labor quote. Turns out it was the battery. Jim's Automotive was a life saver this past Sunday (Palm Sunday!) for my niece, Emily. Emily, age 21, was driving from Texas to W.Virginia on her first long road trip, and by herself. She stopped overnight in Kodak TN when she noticed smoke coming from under the hood of her car. Emily called AAA roadside assistance and they recommended she go to Jim's for service. Jim drove 45-min to pick up a new radiator and fan for Emily, and then installed it for her -- all before lunch on Sunday morning. It got Emily back on the road and safely to WV that night. Jim was very friendly, reassuring, professional and efficient. It put Emily's entire extended family at ease that she was in good hands with Jim's shop. It was truly a miracle. I would give no stars if I could... I picked up my vehicle yesterday after it was "fixed". Now my dash lights are on. I called to see if they could figure out what went wrong and was told that it couldn't have been anything they did and that we were trying to get something for nothing. On a long trip and ended up almost stranded with a dead alternator, made it to this garage based on the recommendation from the advance auto parts. It looks so sketchy but Jim is nice and honest. Absolutely love this place. They have gone out of their way to help me with so many issues that I've had with multiple cars of mine, from a 2001 Ford windstar minivan ;to a 2013 dart. They can provide things like ,Oil changes, engine issues, spare tires, fixing axles, tire rods, brakes , you name it they can do, and for a good price too.
