This spot may be held near and dear by some folks who get nostalgic from the memories of eating here as a kid (50s diner vibe) but as someone who didn't grow up in Colorado, i can give you an honest review. Firstly, this place is swarming with a certain political party. It's almost as if they have a facebook group where they post meetups here to eat burgers together. I won't get political in a food review but it's definitely off putting to say the least. Second, while cheap ($10) for a meal -- it's also just not good. Unfortunately i hadn't met a burger i didn't enjoy in my 30 odd years of eating them but this one takes the cake. The burger its self is a smash styled patty but it's so thin i could cut myself on the edges. The bun it's served on is also very large and completely drowns out any flavor other than the bread itself. The toppings on the sandwich leave a lot to be desired as well. My burger had 3 small tomato slices on it (2 of them were ends where the vine sits) and 2 onion rings so thick you'd probably be better off frying them. All in all, growing up in the northeast i'm no stranger to diners but this one is just not good. I'm sure they'll coast on local nostalgia for a long while but i won't be surfing on that wave anytime soon. read more

Very poor service this time around. The food was awful. You get more meat on a happy meal burger than you did on a six inch single. I have another complaint that come with toothpicks. I took the toothpick out, opened up the package and started to eat the burger, and another toothpick was inside the burger. I could have had a bad situation here and I am definitely not happy about it. I really doubt I will eat there again because of the food and because of the toothpick. read more

You can't go wrong with Jim's Burger Haven for a great burger! It's a fun local neighborhood vibe. I love the thin crispy burgers! The menu isn't huge but has good variety. I didn't love the fries but the onion rings.... Oh the onion rings were so good! The service was fast and everyone was friendly. They aren't open late (maybe 8pm) so check before you go. It's sad to write this follow-up review for Jim's which has been one of my favorites for decades. The current saga started when Aspen Bakery went under. We hung it there 6 inchers on 4 inch buns, some other buns, then todaya buns. A six inch bun better described as flavorless firm if not stale, brown paper bag is the favor if we pin it down. Yes a far cry from the soft yet never soggy, smooth and fresh Aspen Bakery buns. The meat seems never frozen flavorfull and fresh. The fries were cooked to perfection and yes the burger was piping hot. All things considered unless I can bring my homemade buns, the only ones better than Aspen buns this was our last visit to Jim's in Thornton. There is the flawed idea that the Westminster location has decent buns, so I guess it's goodbye Jim's. Thank you for the good bun years. read more

I love their food; the reason for the one star review is due to the fact that I had to stand at the order window for minutes or more waiting for someone to even acknowledge the fact that I was standing there. In the mean time the WHOLE KITCHEN STAFF was standing there talking about personal life. Finally one of them yelled out for the order taker to come to the window instead of someone else that was RIGHT there could have stepped up to do it. Bad business. Bad burger. I grew up in Thornton and Jim's was always a go-to place for burgers. Today I was in Thornton and went through the drive through and ordered a 6" double cheeseburger meal and two separate 6" cheeseburgers (singles). I got two separate bags---one with fries and onion rings---and the other with two separate burgers. I pulled into a parking spot to wolf my double cheeseburger. After a few bites I realized that it was a single and not a double. I checked the other two burgers thinking they might have gotten mixed up. Nope. Normally I would just let it slide but since I was in the parking lot, I decided to go in and see if I could get the double that I ordered. To wrap up this novel, they refused to make good on my order. I have to say that the few bites I took out of the sandwich said it all. The meat patty is paper thin and the burger is extremely dry. The folks at the counter aren't mentally with it and the food isn't what it used to be---especially for the price. If you go to Jim's you will be disappointed. read more

Burgers are great BUT BEWARE if you order online it says to check the everything box, I did check the everything box but nothing came on the burgers... There was a guy in from of me that had the same issue with his burger having nothing even though he checked the everything box. I guess you have to leave all of the auto check boxes checked AND check the everything box. We stopped here on our way from thrifting on Washington. This was a convenient location and we chose to dine in. My daughter had a grilled ham and cheese, fries and a lemonade. I went with a double patty 4" burger w cheese and added bacon and jalapeños + fries and drink. We came in around 1:30 and we were able to order right away. Staff was friendly and we paid about $20 for our meals. I really enjoyed my burger; the bun was really fresh and soft and I liked the old school smash burger. It was served hot and hit the spot. Good food and okay service, but the actual environment is not a safe space for LGBTQ+ or people of color. My family and I have had multiple bad experiences here. Once where a family was photographing us and ostracizing us just for eating here. Zero stars if I could. This happened at Jim's Burger Haven (Washington & 88th) around 7:45 PM. I walked in with my husband and kids and was immediately told that everything had to be to-go, even though there were still people sitting in the lobby eating. We were rushed the entire time. After we were pushed out, I realized I wasn't given a fork. When I tried to go back inside to grab one, the staff locked the door and told me to walk around the building to the drive-through window to get it. They were standing inside watching me through the window while this happened. It was humiliating, unnecessary, and completely unprofessional. The way we were rushed out and treated ruined our night. If you don't want customers inside, close the lobby properly and be honest about it. I will never come back to this location. read more

From the shakes to the malts to the burgers to the dogs folks. Service was great as I didn't wait long , the lady at the register was very sweet and gave me a few suggestions . This is definitely it and I'm sad I went here after seeing several of them around . After having lived in Thornton the majority of my life, I had never been here before. I'm a little sad that I had never stopped in! Food came out quick and was fresh. It tastes good and I can really imagine how McDonald's and other burger places would have tasted back in the day. Things here are fresh and tasty. Service is good too, it's younger teens working in there, or people just out of high school, but very friendly and courteous! It looks like a place right out of the 40s and 50s and it plays the music to match! I wish it was a bit quieter because I couldn't hear the people I was eating lunch with, but still a great place. I've wanted to try this place for years, but live on the opposite side of town. Worked out today. Got the single 6" with American, small fries, and a chocolate shake. The burger is huge ... seeming. When they call it a smash burger, they're not kidding. It's very very thin. So if I come back, I'll get the 4" double. The meat to bread/veg ratio is just off with the single. Also there's some bitter aftertaste with the burger and I couldn't locate the source. Maybe it's the mustard which comes standard, or maybe it's in the bun? Not terrible, just odd. Burger had nice crispy edges, and tasted very fresh. Again, it's just very thin to hold up against a very large bun. Fries were just ok. Better than standard fast food fries, but really over salted. I'd ask for less salt next time, if that's even an option. Shake is good. Could use a little more chocolate for my taste, but well above average. Prices are more than reasonable. Whole meal was $12. I paid that much for just a small shake not as good as this one last year. Oldies music came on during my meal, and it was on the loud side. The silence was preferable. So I'd def try again. Addressing other review issues: I was the first customer in the door and the place was spotless. Staff were friendly enough, if a little brusque. Bathroom was perfectly clean, no odors. The bathroom smells so bad that I gagged when I went in to wash my hands. If the bathroom is that filthy, imagine what the kitchen is like... The hamburger my son ordered was according to him, "so-so with too much mustard on it." The onion rings were lukewarm and small. The fish sandwich was decent. Crispy and tasty. The whole place is dirty. It was almost empty, but almost every table was dirty. Too much trash on the floor everywhere. It just looks like nobody cleans much. Not good for a restaurant. For starters, I fell out of my truck when my foot hit the ice in the parking lot and my teenager had to help me up because I couldn't get up myself. It would have been nice to put some salt or sand or something because the entire parking lot was a sheet of ice. The food was meh. They advertised some kind of spicy cheese curds but didn't have any. Excellent burger and onion rings. I didn't have one of the shakes or malts, but they looked fantastic. You feel like you've been transported through a time tunnel to the late 1950s when you enter. Classic black and red booths, 50s oldies music on the stereo, pictures of Elvis, The Beatles, and classic cars on the walls. Unfortunately I left with complete disappointment :( The dining tables were filthy from previous customers which can be normal, but it was mid-day/afternoon and not busy at all. Classic Burger Stand kind of place, fast food quality burger without supporting a big corporation. Jim's Burger Haven has that old school feel to them, probably because they've been open for 60 years! They have a simple menu consisting of burgers, fries, shakes, among a few other items. I got the 8-inch burger and that thing was MASSIVE. It was also pretty tasty, just didn't hit the perfect mark like some other old school joints I've been to, but that's not to say this place isn't worth checking out!
