Today is Friday and I no nfind myself in Sunny Seaside California!!! I'm am on a work assignment. I'm hungry for Lunch after sitting in Traffic for 3 hours . So I look at my Trusty Yelp Application . And I find Jim's Chinese Restaurant!!!! I read the reviews which are good!!!! So I rolled there and even parked in front, I grabbed a table and a Waitress brought me a glass of water and a Menu! I ordered a Dinner Special- Mongolian Beef and Chow Mein!! The Cook brought my Food to me Piping Hot!!!! She also brought me a Bonus!!!! A Second Plate with Sesame Chicken Samples and 3 Sesame Buns for Dessert!!!! The food was tasty and well prepared and Seasoned!!! Old school good!!!! Service was Friendly and Cheerful!!! Jim's is a Hole in the Wall, But don't let that fool you!!! Food is great!!!! They even give you a Fortune Cookie with your Bill!!! I like that!!!! That's awesome and old school!!!! Highlight of the restaurant is service. Thats it. I ordered sweet sour chicken Mongolian beef and honey shrimp. Chicken sauce tasted like cheap store bought and the batter was hard and it came out at room temperature like it was precooked. The Mongolian beef was way too salty. And the fried rice lacks the fire wok flavor. The shrimp were good! Creamy and tasty. I really had high hopes because of the reviews but the taste was so subpar to other Chinese food in the Bay Area. 3 star for the friendly owner. Disappointed about the food. read more

This place is super good. The wonton soup is amazing! I don't think my meal came with soup but I asked for some and they gave me a cup. The lady (who I assume is Helen the owner) was super sweet and helpful. She was on it. She even game me a spring roll and fried wonton with some sweet and sour. I got the shrimp with vegetable in a white sauce and fried rice. The cook definitely uses a wok, you can taste the char flavor, that's my favorite. This place did not disappoint. We ate at Jim's Chinese Restaurant this evening. Seating is limited and we managed to beat the dinner rush. We enjoyed Jim's Chow Mien, Salt and Pepper Squid, Mongolian Beef and Shu Mai (sp). Everything was delicious. We received a complimentary appetizer which was equally delicious. Each dish had its own flavor profile and the seasonings were flavorful without being overbearing. Portions are plentiful and we easily have enough leftover for another meal if not a second meal. This restaurant is quaint, humble and thriving. Awards are on the wall dating back 15 or more years ago and I can understand why the restaurant has been recognized throughout the years. They is absolutely the best experience in town! The food is all made from scratch and in a small family type kitchen setting. The staff is fantastic. Great people and a family staff. The owner is always out talking to people while cooking. If you don't know what you want to eat they will help you decide. The inside is a cozy place that makes you feel like you're eating with family and friends. The portions are the biggest I have ever seen and priced reasonably especially for the area. You can also order out with a reasonable wait time and even less if you call ahead. I really recommend to visit and dine in for the experience. This place is next level Chinese food!!! The owner/head chef cares about the dishes she puts out just as much as her customers! For an authentic experience, skip the Americanized dishes (haven't tried, I'm sure they're great too) and get the beef stew clay pot which she brews everyday for 4 hours ahead of time! The century egg rice porridge is also amazing, and the snow pea sprouts are delicious as well. But at the end of it all, come here for the real fruit milk tea boba cuz HOLY crap it's Additionally, you might find yourself with some on the house apps if she's in a good mood (and she often is)! The staff was immediately friendly and welcoming! They're extremely nice! We ordered egg roll appetizers and so before they brought that out they brought out a "gift". It was some fried wontons with some filling omg it was SOOOO good!! They didn't have to do that it was so sweet. I ordered beef and broccoli with half chicken friend rice and half chow mein. We wanna give a big shout-out to Jim's Chinese Restaurant for the tasty, affordable, convenient, and delicious Chinese takeout we've had over the years. It's a true local favorite, hole-in-the-wall, ma'n'pop treasure that is a lil hard to spot but absolutely worth it. Take-out is best since seating is limited, btw. Jim's offers a wide variety of dishes that range from somewhat Americanized to authentic Chinese. If you order the orange chicken here, don't expect it to be like Panda Express. It's delicious in its own nonbreaded right, though. ;-) Our favorites include the fish in black bean sauce, shrimp with string beans, combination fried rice, and many more. We love that they try to throw in some extras when they can and make us feel spoiled. Everything is tasty... not the healthiest but, absolutely satisfying. I wanted to like this place because the staff was so nice, but it just wasn't good. I got the lemon chicken with fried rice and chow mein. Total gem of a hole in the wall. My mom's friend had taken my parents here years ago but my brother recently took my mom and said the food was quite good! Considering this restaurant cooks for a diverse and non-Chinese crowd, they have many more traditional and less Americanized offerings. The owners of this place and their workers were hustling! There were only 3 tables in the place and two were full of customers. When i showed up to get my takeout orders, two other take out customers were ahead of me. Who knew this place existed? Obviously locals in the know do and it is appropriately loved and kept busy. As someone mentioned in another review, this place is not a fancy place for ambiance but the kind of place you just come for solid Chinese food. They also give their customers mini sesame balls filled with red bean paste or goodies on the house. I'm not sure if this is if you order over a certain dollar amount? Jim's Chinese Restaurant is an authentic hole in the wall mom-pop shop that serves up an extensive menu that has been modified to perfectly fit the tastebuds of the general demographic here. As far as I can remember, I honestly never thought much of their food despite their menu having won previous awards and honors with the Chinese Restaurant Foundation. I did, however, still visit often for their lunch specials right before heading into work; trying quite a bit of their menu. I would have written them off as just American Chinese food (especially when having observed the dishes being ordered or picked up) if it wasn't for one dish that changed my dining experience there: sautéed snow pea leaves with garlic. I cannot remember a single spot selling American Chinese food that had this on their menu unless they intend to cater to anyone who knows the cuisine. It is rarely ordered outside the Chinese circle as it often costs more than most entrees (note: snow pea leaves on average cost $10-11 per pound at grocery stores with 80-90% yield before cooking). That said, it sort of sparked my need to test out many of their other entrees outside the specials. As for the food, I'll maintain it at a solid 4 stars. One aspect that stood out over all my visits before COVID was the tendency for their dishes to be under seasoned/salted (especially in terms of Chinese cuisine). It had even been borderline bland at times. However, like some of the places I've known to shift gears after COVID, my last visits landed on some seriously spot-on flavors - like REALLY good. Now what makes this a true 5 star spot in my book besides a personal bias to good mom-pop shops is the lady owner Helen who runs the front, expedites, and also jumps in the kitchen whenever she gets a chance. She's extremely friendly and is very personal with all the customers - often going over and beyond to ensure customers are satisfied with their meals. Should it be of any surprise then that true to Chinese culture she would often bring out random appetizers on the house for you to try? Nah. She's that epically awesome! My boyfriend loves this place, so we thought we'd order some pickup since I'd never tried it. Only took about 25 minutes and it was soooo good. He ordered the mongolian beef and when I tell you it was the most flavorful I've had in a long time I'm not kidding. The egg rolls were delicious as well, perfectly crispy. I wish I'd gotten her name, but as I was paying a woman popped out from the kitchen and gives me a complimentary box full of cheese rangoons and two sesame balls! So sweet! There was so much food from the 5 dishes. They also gave us extra spring rolls and another appetizer! The mandarin chicken was amazing! They also made sure to give extra sauce for the chicken. Congratulations Seaside For having such a wonderful place to get Chinese food. The customer service was outstanding. I was only a visitor in this town and never stepped inside this establishment before but felt like I was family when I was greeted. The owner/cook came out to make sure we were ok because the lady at the front was taking phone calls. Everyone was busy but took the time to make sure all of our take out items were accurate and packed properly. They even gave us an extra plate of appetizers on the house!! While speaking to another customer I was told this is common to get the appetizer plate on the house. wow!!! Food portions were very generous and the fried rice was very good.
