I liked the clam chowder, but the salad seemed to be straight out of an iceberg mix from the Walmart next door. I think that's where they got the corn/carrot/green bean veggies too--from the frozen isle. My mashed potatoes had to be dehydrated flakes-- definitely not from real potatoes. My salmon was good though. My husband got the Beef-Eater sandwich. He said it was good at first, but then tasted too salty and greasy and he said the mushrooms could have been sautéed more. Cute place! Really a diner feel. My husband and I went for a brunch since ski traffic didn't seem worth it. And we were pleasantly surprised in this strip mall for such a diner cozy feeling. I ordered the Chile Verde breakfast burrito and my husband got a sandwich. The portion was pretty big for the cost. Service was a little slow but everyone was so friendly. If grandma opened a restaurant, this would be it....well, she wouldn't name it Jim's, so maybe it's grandpa's place. Either way, it's an old fashioned, slower pace vibe kind of place where you can get meatloaf or chicken fried steak and be happy about it. Service is friendly and attentive. The food is ok, although nothing that pushes the envelope or boasts creativity. It's comfort food, just the basics that you have grown to love. Portion sizes are decent and the ranch dressing is wonderful. That's a make or break item for me. Prices are reasonable and the menu has plenty of options to give everyone something they will love. Five stars for a coffee shop! This is not a fancy place and despite having lots of seating, it felt more like a local cafe than one of those large chains like Denny's. The coffee was decent and with attentive service, ever-flowing. I had a few hours to kill while my car was being serviced and not once did anyone make me feel like I was taking up space and should leave. I had the 9.99 breakfast special which came with two eggs, two slices of bacon, a huge portion of hash browns and two huge pancakes. It's hopping' at Jim's. Get in early in you want a spot for Sunday brunch! The service was fast - seems like someone is always in view, busily helping. Our server was stellar, noticed a tattoo on my son's arm and asked about shared interests. We had a great chat! French toast was great for me. Scrambled eggs were nicely done, and the bacon was a treat. I'm easy to please, but the food is just right. It's exactly the kind of food and service you need when you just need to sit down and visit. Prices are reasonable and there aren't any surprises. Thanks, everyone, for taking great care of us. Then the salads came on top of the soup (wrong salad dressing) then the food came before we even finished the soup. My husband's was ok I guess he ate it. Mine was so undercooked it was next to raw. I wanted to like this spot. Breakfast is really hard to get wrong. But man, this visit was pretty rough for me. I got a waffle, and I don't know what batter they use, but they need a swift switch. It was not good; there's no other way to say it. My server felt really bad, and gave us a discount on the whole bill. I will say to its credit, the place was clean and nicely decorated. We were seated in a booth, which is my favorite with a toddler. And our server was really great. He was friendly and pleasant, and very attentive. For the price we paid on this breakfast, we will not be returning. But our server was a gem, so I hope he has sought out opportunities at a higher ticket place. read more

Jim's is a great place to eat for a good, inexpensive meal. They give you a lot of food for a good price. I had the chicken fried steak, and it was perfectly cooked with crispy edges and delicious gravy. The veggies were bland, but the onion rings were delicious. They have wonderful chicken noodle soup and a crispy salad. The service is okay. While the service is good and fast, I am sad to say that I am not a fan of our server's personality. She was sarcastic to my mom, and I felt the need to defend my mom from the server's sarcasm. Because of this incident, I would go here for the food but request someone different. I had the pleasure of returning to Jim's - Sandy on Tuesday with my wife for a late brunch after a quick doctor's appointment. In typical fashion, the food, service, and overall experience were outstanding. On this trip I enjoyed Jim's Breakfast with toast and coffee, and my wife had her go-to French Toast Combo with sausage and bacon. The food was brought out piping hot...and promptly by RaeLynn, and we both enjoyed our meals immensely. RaeLynn did a great job as she always does when she waits on us, and the food was perfect. Wish I could give Jim's 6 stars as this new venue has turned out great for us, for special occasions, and for when family comes to visit. As it turns out a few days later I took my wife out to a late lunch after her doctor's appointment, but she wanted to try something else...so we ended up at Denny's just off Fort Union in Midvale (7000 S.) Was in town and my Momma bear wanted to come here for breakfast and my first time dining at Jim's family restaurant. Seen them all over Utah but never was brave enough to go inside. LOL We had an impatient server that wanted us to order after just handing the menus over to us. (I thought I was so antsy and compared to her I seemed tame.) The food came out rather quickly and something was off about the flavors, not sure if they used margarine or soybean oil on my eggs, hash browns, and English muffin. I had the country breakfast scramble this morning, with a mocha. Mocha was cold. Eggs were a notch above Denny's level, hash browns and english muffin were fine, ham was adequate. Service was perfect. Staff was courteous, prompt and polite. Price was reasonable. This place is darling! It's clean and was decorated so cute for Easter. It has a traditional diner feel to it. We came for breakfast and the place was still hopping at 10 am. It took a while to be seated, but once we were in our booth the waitress was quick to get our orders. The food came out quick, and was piping hot. The portion sizes are HUGE!!! I ordered the Avocado mushroom omelette. It came with a generous portion of hash browns and 2 gigantic pancakes. I barely made a dent and will have breakfast for at least the next two to three days. My kids and husband enjoyed their food as well. Our waitress Rae was darling and very attentive. As for the taste of the food, it was good, but nothing amazing. Came here on a Wednesday morning around 8 am. Was promptly greeted and seated by the host. The waitress, Betty, was cheerful and attentive. She was also that way with all of her other tables. Had the chicken fried steak and eggs. The chicken fried steak and crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The eggs and hash browns were done well. The pancakes were a little cakey. I went into Jim's Family Diner with my child to eat. The older aged male host with grey hair took us to our table. He made me feel extremely uncomfortable. The entire time we were there he kept staring at us. I couldn't figure out why a host would keep staring out me and my son. My son has autism and he noticed it also. He kept saying he wanted to leave because, "that man keeps staring at me. Can we please leave mommy?" It was so creepy. I've been going to Jim's Family Restaurant's for decades because me, my family, and friends love their food and prior to this... their service. We've gone to several different locations including this one since the early 2000's. I would give Jim's a minus 's if I could. I will NEVER go there again! Patrons BEWARE! Not only did they have a huge selection, what we ordered was so delicious! I got the chicken fettuccine broccoli Alfredo. oh my goodness everything about it was delicious! Pasta was perfectly cooked, the broccoli was perfectly cooked, and the Alfredo was delicious! It was just a little bit dry so I asked for an extra side of Alfredo and that was perfect! We stopped here for breakfast before heading over to the Wheeler farmers market. The menu had a wide variety of all day food options, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The food was good, everything cooked and served properly. The only downside was our server. Unfortunately, she had a cold demeanor and we felt rushed to make a decision on the menu. Worst spaghetti I have ever eaten. Way too much horrible spices in the meal. Even canned spaghetti from the grocery store is better.

Let's put this in perspective. I'm talking about breakfast, and I'm comparing Jim's family restaurant to Denny's, Village Inn, IHOP, etc. That being said, we were not looking for James Beard foundation awards or Michelin stars, we were looking for good old fashion country cooking - done right. A clear winner in the "greasy spoon" category of dining. Cooked to perfection, I had the ham, two scrambled eggs and hashbrowns with a side of pancakes. All of that was $6.69 - that's a killer deal! Cholesterol-heavy and full of flavor, Jim's is a winner. One shouldn't eat like that every day, but I'm looking forward to my next visit. A few key points for out-of-town visitors in search of comfort food ... Jim's is conveniently located off the interstate exit. There's plenty of free parking. The food was mediocre, but the service was good. The salad was swimming in dressing! The produce was fresh, I just wish I could've tasted some of the lettuce under all that dressing. The burger on the menu said nothing about sauce, so when it came I added fry sauce to the burger. Then I picked it up and learned that under the meat it was smothered in Mayo. The bottom bun was very soggy, making it hard to eat and very messy. The fries were good. The kids meals were large and well priced. Lots of options too. read more

Jim's in Sandy at Quarry Bend is an exceptional restaurant. Yeah sometimes it's better than others but it is always good. They actually care about your experience and we have often met the owner walking around and asking if everything was okay. We have never had a bad meal and every one is super friendly. Wow! It's like going back to pre-pandemic service levels. Walked in and the decor was cute (gearing up for Halloween) and we were greeted by someone right away even though it was busy. The server Julie was just the best. She gave recommendations, was quick with drinks, and gave my kids a quarter to use at the dispenser. Went to Jim's for breakfast and everything was going fine. We were sat promptly even though it was quite busy. Our waitress was friendly enough and very attentive. The food was brought out quickly and it all looked good. Then my daughter had a hair in her whip cream. No big deal stuff happens my daughter is blond so there's a chance it may have been hers, unlikely considering she spotted it two seconds after receiving her plate and pointed it out before taking a single bite. Then my wife(NOT BLONDE) had a hair in her food as well! Needless to say my appetite was taken away with my wife's plate. Then the manager came to our table... He said he was sorry and then told us there aren't any employees with blond hair that worked(while a waitress was taking an order behind him with a head full of highlights) there. Seemingly accusing us of putting hair in our food or something. He did take the two dishes off our bill so I guess the bare minimum is where they set the bar. Nothing to see or experience here except pretense and disappointment. It was not busy when I visited, yet it took 15 minutes for the passive aggressive waitress to take my order. Then it took another 15 minutes for my order to reach me. It was mediocre at best and was a bit gross, but I choked it down. Then it took another 10 minutes after I had finished for the waitress to realize that I was done to give me the bill and asked me for feedback. I give her honesty and she immediately made a crass comment discounting and disregarding my experience. This is indicative of how things operate here. Wow! I am so happy I stopped here for lunch before returning to LA. The staff were so nice and friendly, but the food! I had the hot beef open faced sandwich.
