What a lovely place to stop for a bite to eat. On the walls, you'll find canvas prints of the staff (family owned, I believe). What a wonderful touch!! Staff was over the top accommodating! It was me, my baby (7 months old) and my two friends. I ordered the two egg breakfast with sausage and home fries & toast. It was amazing! Sausage was tender. Only could eat one. Because I got a variety of food for this meal--I was hungry! I also ordered two buckwheat pancakes with chocolate chips. These were amazing! I hadn't had them for quite some time. Satisfied my craving for sure. Fluffy, cooked perfectly and drizzled with syrup! And only like $4... The ambiance is causal and comfortable and I love the diner like feel but it does in a way feel classy as well. It's perfect. CASH ONLY. I mention this first because I know a lot of you will only read the first three sentences before you start to skim. We were looking for a quick breakfast before our distillery tour. This place luckily was only a 5 minute drive. There was a bit of a wait, and there was hardly any standing room, so if you come on a weekend be prepared. The menu is your standard American fare. The do have specials on the board which are worth a gander. The food was very good, and came out very fast! The biscuits and milk gravy were amazing! The gravy was very flavorful and the sausage had just the right amount of seasoning. The price is great too!! Everything on the menu is under 10 bucks! My meal was only $6.25 and was very filling! This spot is my boyfriends favorite spot to go to if we want to sit down for breakfast. He loves their Biscuits and Gravy Special and sometimes cant stop talking about it once he's done eating it. I love bacon, so I usually order anything with bacon!! When I first moved out here, he took me and I was very hesitant to go. I originally didn't want to write this review because it was a lot of energy expended on negativity but here we are. If you don't have anything nice to say, people say not to say it, but this is productive for your benefit, so I think I can make an exception. The food was okay at best (the eggs Benedict, however, was made over-easy at the hour we went, which was a weird thing to experience at all - how hard is it to poach an egg at any time at a diner, let alone at 11:30am? This seemed like they just didn't feel like making them to meet expectations). My fiancée had an order of french bread French toast and seemingly just received the ends of the bread which was bizarre. However, the worst of this was that it wasn't clear at all that the establishment is cash-only. I only found out by the cashier when I went to pay. I didn't notice a sign in front and that proves an issue - what if we didn't have the funds available to us, even considering the ATM? Furthermore, the cashier seemed very dismissive of me looking to pay for our meal. She was busying herself by counting dollar bills when I approached the counter, and seemed perturbed that I wanted to pay, as necessary. Overall, mostly due to the lackluster meal I had, the cashier's lax service, and the cash-only nature of the restaurant, I don't recommend this one and won't be returning. read more

I'm originally from the northeast but live in South Carolina now. One of the things that I haven't been able to find is a good, inexpensive diner. I went with a coworker to Jim's on Main for breakfast because I was craving an egg and cheese sandwich on a hard roll... this was exactly what I needed. I did the Denver Wham with a side of home fries, my coworker got the 2x2x2 with scrambled eggs, sausage, and French toast. When offered hot sauce, they mentioned a homemade meat sauce so I got that - I ended up asking for the recipe so I can make it at home. I'll definitely be back to try other things! I wasn't sure if this was a good spot to grab breakfast at first, cause this greasy spoon seemed packed and hectic. But we got seated within 15 minutes, and I couldn't believe the selection and the prices on their menu. I ended up choosing the Mar omelet which had bacon, spinach, mushrooms and Swiss cheese (omelet was only $5.75 with toast but I added home fries for $1.10). My father got Cinnamon French toast (only $3.95). They kept on refilling our coffees too! So mission accomplished, fast breakfast under 45 minutes, a bill under $20 and full satisfied appetites! read more

I was feeling some deep, brooding shame about the fact that I was a Rochester native that had never been to Jim's. I was ALSO having an eggs benny craving that I couldn't (and wasn't really trying to) shake. I decided to remedy both of these issues and what ensued was magic beyond my brain's comprehension. I situated myself at the bar, a front row seat to the 10:00AM showing of "Heaping Mounds of Potatoes" which is honestly the only kind of show I want to see at 10:00AM on a Friday. I love that you can see your food being made right in front of you, and salivate as you sip on your coffee and wait for your order to come out. They also have booth seating, but you will miss out on the open kitchen views. The staff at Jim's is the bomb - diner quick while still making you feel at home. Coffee refills are nonstop and they will not judge you when you DOWN your entire plate of Eggs Benedict in 9 minutes flat. Because I did that. The waitress came over to ask how everything was going and I told her I was having an out of body experience and couldn't talk right now. You guys, the Hollandaise is just THAT GOOD. They use a thick english muffin underneath that is not at all phased by the mound of hollandaise or poached egg. I do not like my hash browns crispy at all so for me, these were flawless as well. I will absolutely be going back as soon as possible and maybe someday I will even order something else. But in the meantime, I will continue to write love letters (like this one) about the eggs benny at Jim's and stay loyal to the breakfast of my dreams. Jim's is back! North Winton's loss is East Main's gain. First time back since the last days of the old location and it was packed to the gills with a 20 minute wait. Anyone who patronized this restaurant in the Penguin/Jim's Too days will be quite impressed with the extensive work on the interior. As any former Jim's patron will tell you, the old site was pretty snug and intimate. The interior of Jim's On Main is a little bit nicer, with plenty of counter space for the folks who don't want to wait for a booth. It looks like pretty much all of the favorites are back on the menu. I enjoyed the classic "late-riser" whilst the Duchess delved into Eggs Florentine. She gave it a solid two thumbs up. Glad to have a version of Jim's back up & running! Hope this bodes well for the rest of 2016! read more

Went here on a snowy Rochester morning with our RIT kid. A little bit of a drive from campus but worth it. Friendliest staff ever. Went there for lunch. We were directed by the waitress to use the qr code at each table to obtain the menu. Afterwards the owner brought menus over. I ordered from the online menu. When I got the bill the charges were more than indicated on the menu. When I asked about it the owner said the website was out of date and that's why she brought the menus. She refused to honor the lower price and said her prices were the lowest around. I would think a little thing like honoring posted prices to keep your customers happy would be an easy yes. We were very lucky to get a booth immediately shortly before 9 on a Friday morning. Right after that, they started taking names! The service was fast and friendly and although the place was full we didn't feel rushed. There is a good variety for breakfast and I chose a special with eggs, meat, toast, and grits - - a bit of a change from potatoes. Hunkering for a classic diner for breakfast, I am very happy to have found this family owned business on Main with an extensive menu for any taste. It is cozy greasy spoon with friendly service, comfortable booths and decorated with pictures of what I assumed were family. A digital board at the back of the space announces daily specials (unfortunately I noticed it after I ate :/ but I really don't need another excuse to go back, do I?). We had lunch with a group of 10 people at Jim's on a Tuesday morning. Service was excellent, prices were good, and food was delivered quickly. Our party had a split of breakfast and diner items. The general feeling was that the food was good, but not out-of-this-world, but also nothing to avoid, although those that had the meatloaf said it had a bit of an odd tang to it. We asked if there was a specialty that the restaurant was known for, and the staff couldn't make a specific recommendation--you need to know what you do best so that out-of-town people can order what you do best! A recommendation for the coffee cake was later made, which was good...but we would classify it as more of a spice cake than a true coffee cake. When asking for breakfast potatoes well done they will notify the kitchen and you get whichever is more done... hash browns or homefries.
