I've been here a few times and the food here is alright. The portions are very generous, the prices are reasonable and they have a variety of dishes. One of the best things is that they offer combo plates. On my last visit I ordered the half jjajangmyeon and half spicy seafood noodle soup combo. The jjajangmyeon was light on the veggies and meat and heavy on the onions but in general this dish tasted okay. The noodles were bouncy. The spicy seafood noodle soup was okay but I found the seafood to be a bit on the fishy side. Otherwise the dish tasted fine and was not overwhelmingly spicy (I asked for less spicy). After ordering, it took 5 to 10 minutes for the food to be prepared. They provide you with a device that alerts you when your food is ready to be picked up. The restaurant is located in a food court with restaurants spread out on three floors with seating on each. The place can get pretty crowded during peak times. I've never been here when it wasn't at least half filled with diners. This spot is good when you want comforting Korean noodles, soups or fried meat at a reasonable price in a casual setting. read more

To my surprise the flavor is great! At first I thought it's another food stand how good can it be? But I was so surprised about the seafood noodle. The soups is fresh and seasoning is just about right not to mention the fresh seafood. They added loads of fresh shrimp, squid and mussel! Overall it's great for value. Super recommend! read more

Jin Jja Roo (JJR) is located in the Food Gallery 32 on 32nd Koreatown, Midtown - NYC. This place had one of the shorter lines... I still visited the booth since I was craving some quick to-go of the Korean BBQ bibimbap. The sign of the blown up picture of the dish was too appealing. Overall, it was not too bad but not the best. The rice bowl was hot and had all the right ingredients of delicious beef, veggies, soft fluffy rice, and an egg to top it off. There were two things I was not too pleased with - 1) the soup that came with it lacked any flavor at it. It is one of those staple Korean red soup bases. However, this was lacked flavor and tasted like hot water. 2) the price was a bit steep especially when I am at Koreatown and can find alternatives that are either cheaper, better quality, or both. JJR does serve great food but definitely has some tough competition against them in NYC. It would win market share in Minnesota though! read more

They are located inside the K-Town food court. When you enter, they are in the back right corner. I ordered #24, which is the Korean black bean pork noodles & pineapple chicken combo. Overall, the entire dish was bland. The noodles seemed a bit overcooked and the black bean sauce was bland. The pineapple chicken was tender, but the breading was soft and again, it was bland. Even the miso soup was quite bland. I would maybe recommend this dish if you don't like very salty foods, but I wouldn't consider myself someone who likes their food that salty. Jin-Ja-Roo, which should sound more like "chinch-roo" when you say it, is a stall in the amazingly wonderful Food Gallery 32 Food Court located on Koreatown Street (32nd Street) in midtown Manhattan. I love coming to Food Gallery 32 for lunch between my market appointments. It is only a couple blocks to walk there, and the service is cheap, fast, and casual. The entire experience is just like the food courts I have visited in South Korea. I like coming to Jin-cha-roo, because they have great Korean-Chinese food in a smaller, sampler portion size for cheap. I like to get the split bowl of JaJangMyun (black bean sauce noodles) and Gangpunggi (spicy fries chicken). The words are split to call this dish Gan ppong ja! It comes with a soup and a side of dan-moo-ji (sweet yellow color daikon), kimchi, and odeng broth. Eating jajangmyun is never elegant looking, so I try to hide somewhere in a corner. There are very few restaurants in the area that will serve a split bowl dish like this for under $10. This is the fastest, since it is counter service you don't have to deal with all of the usual dine-in restaurant drama. read more

Not the best place in the food court, but the portion sizes are good. Ordered the rice with tofu/kimchi and miso soup and it was a little disappointing. The miso soup was laden with MSG and salt and the tofu/kimchi was a little too salty. The first couple of bites were okay and then it became overwhelming. The food did come fairly quickly though, there was lots of it, and it wasn't too expensive. Even for Korean fast food standards, Jin Jja Roo is mediocre. Jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) never fails me. This is my go to spot for years. My cravings for jjajangmyeon is always satisfied here. This place has inspired me to learn how to make it at home. No matter how well my dish comes out, it doesn't size up to the ones made here. It's sweet, it's savory and it hits the spot. It has onions, pork and an assortment of other vegetables if I can remember. One bowl is good enough for one person. I typically eat a lot, this will get you to satisfied full. Not too full but not hungry after. Only con here is seating. On a Friday night, it's going to be tough. There's about 3 floors of seatings, but the space is shared among other restaurants as well. Weekends are usually about the same with foot traffic. The jjajangmyeon is at a pretty affordable price at about $6-7 last time I checked. This was pre-covid. I wish I had a picture to show off but I usually gobble it up before I can reach for my phone. Highly recommend, just be prepared to hunt for seats if you're going in the evening. Also try not to wear white clothing, when you eat the noodles, you're bound to slurp and it's going to stain your nice clothes. Or at least cover up your clothes with a napkin. Enjoy! read more

My approximately 60th time to FG32 whose whole-court review I've updated separate, so I focus on this booth #6 here. Since its opening, #6 and neighbor #7 Seoul Garden (not to be confused with the same named restaurant east on W 32nd St) have been my personal favorites. I can't resist it after 60+x over 5+yrs. Specifically for this vendor, they always have such great value with a slowly evolving menu which mixes Cantonese and Korean cuisines. I ordered the ramen rice cake spicy. Nice light ramen with mildly spicy soup was perfect for this chilly day. Two sides of yellow pickled turnip and light kimchee were nice touches. Another nice hearty meal at a very affordable price. Service is quick, 4mins' wait, with a smile and graciousness. No card minimum in sight unlike so many other vendors, though thoughtfulness suggests they'd prefer one. read more

I've really only had the black bean noodle and spicy seafood noodle (got it through the two dishes option #21), but it was very satisfying and definitely a place I would go back to. The black bean noodles were definitely the star, and considering that you can get a big bowl of these alone for 6.99 or 7.99, I'm pretty impressed. I wouldn't get the seafood noodles again, as those were frankly quite mediocre in taste (the broth also tasted almost identical to that at another vendor, which makes me think it's probably from a powder). The 9.99 price mainly gets you the variety of two dishes, but of course I think the single dishes will be much better value as they are quite a bit cheaper and per the cashier not all that different in terms of volume of food. I didn't know what i wanted from Gallery 32. I was sold as soon as I saw the split bowls at Jin Jja Roo. Ja jang myeung and seafood noodle soup? At the same time? Why not?! Both were equally delicious. A fair amount of sauce and seafood. I was itching for cold noodles but maybe the next time. So, I would like to take this time to personally thank, Robert Sietsema. Who wrote the beckoning Village Voice article, "5 Best Things To Eat at Food Gallery 32", which brought me here. Dear Mr.Sietsema, Thank you, for bringing these soft tasty noodles into my life. If it wasn't for you, I never would have ordered, Jja Jang Myun. I would have never discovered the simplistic joy of: smoky sauce, onions, eggplant and pork ,with warm creamy noodles. I also would never have looked it up to find out about the rich history of this dish. It's a national dish of Korea. This place used to advertise msg free cheap Korean noodles and rice etc. But this pandemic took a toll on it and my beloved seafood noodle no longer taste the same. The shrimps are all frost burn with bitter taste. Same with the clams. The fresh squids is replace with dry ones. Atleast the noodle and cucumber is fresh but that is about it... Hope it will do better after it finish serving its frozen stock. But I won't be returning anymore since there are other places nearby that serve better ingredients with the same price. read more

Jjajangmyun + Jjampong = Jjamjiamyon! Why settle for one when you can get both? One of my favorite Korean dishes served on a special bowl that holds Jjajangmyun on one side and Jjampong on the other. 1. Jjajangmyun (black bean sauce over noodles) the sauce, love it, the noodles, tender. Later I realized it was missing shreds of cucumber garnish that adds a bit of crunch. 2. Jjampong (spicy seafood noodle soup) soup, not as tasty or has as many ingredients compared to Shanghai Mong across the street. I would stay at Jin Jja Roo for the Jjamjiamyon and prices are slightly cheaper. read more

I really come to Jin Jja Roo for the same dish because the other ones just are meh. I love the tang soo jja which is jjajjangmyeon (Korean black bean noodles) paired with tang soo yook (sweet and sour fried pork). It is the perfect lunch combo although I have had it for dinner too. The portion is massive and they separate every time as well as pair a bowl of soup for you to enjoy with this. I can never finish it and will always share, but even then is a struggle. I like the fact that the meal is super cheap and that is why I continue to get it here. Probably one of the better places to have this dish in Ktown. The other items on their menu are pretty much a fast food version. I was not a fan of the ramen that I got previously because it really was a bag of ramen topped with seafood so I felt a little cheated. Set in a food court-like building, Jin Jja Roo is a quick and convenient way to grab some food (especially if you're in a rush). However, the food wasn't any cheaper than other restaurants within the KTown area and underwhelming in quality and quantity. Decisions decisions..I was undecided with the stall (w/ fried cutlets) or Jin jja roo.. I decided to go with jin jja roo and tried number 7. I got the spicy stir fried seafood noodle. The total price w/ tax came out to $9.79. I've posted up a pic for #7 to show the portion size. It was delicious. I'm a huge fan of spicy food and for this dish it was a level 7 for spiciness. So for those that can't handle spicy should reconsider. The spicy sauce was delicious not only with noodle but also with rice. The dish was composed of two mussels,peeled shrimps, squid, onions, fish cake, noodle- that looked like Lo mein. For price and portion and taste it is a 4.5. I don't want to add another .5 because I'm cheap and wished the price was lower. I would definitely recommend this dish! read more

This place has a good variety of tiny restaurants, and it's located inside the trendy looking Cafeteria 32. What I ordered was tasty and inexpensive, and the service was very friendly. Unfortunately my stomach was horribly bloated and was in extreme pain for a day following the meal, and that is an indicator of something wrong... Note: This entire cafeteria was shut down by the health department for around 1-2 weeks recently. Probably should have avoided a visit. read more

Order at the cashiers by the front entrance, take a buzzer and wait. Expect to wait about 15-20 minutes during the lunch rush. As you wait you can peruse the each vendor and satiate your eyes on the LCD screens that display the menu and show photos of the different dishes being offered. After you get your food, there are two levels of seating, shared with the several other Korean vendors located in the food gallery. There are free water dispenses on each floor offering both hot and cold water. I ordered Jjam Ppong ($6.99 + tax = $7.61), noodles served with seafood and vegetables in spicy sauce, and took it to go. The broth was stored in a plastic container, and the noodles were in a large aluminum tray. It can be a bit messy pouring the broth into the aluminum tray, so I'd recommend eating this dish at the gallery rather than taking it to go. The noodles were served al dente and were fairly bland when tasting it alone, but once you pour the spicy seafood broth in, wait a couple minutes, and the noodles will do a great job absorbing the flavors of the broth. The broth has a nice spiciness from the Korean chili flakes/paste with a very subtle sourness. Included in the broth are green veggies (similar to baby bok choy), onions, carrots, cloud ear fungus, canned mushrooms, scallion, 1 mussel, ~10 pieces of squid/octopus, and 3 baby shrimp with tail still intact. The seafood was fresh and not overcooked, the octopus and shrimp still maintained a firmness to it with a slight crunch. The mussel was a bit of a disappointment, as I found it to be a little sandy/gritty. Also included was a small container of what I believe to be their Jja Jang myun sauce, a black bean sauce, which I found to be a bit salty. Another container included 4 pieces of yellow pickled turnip, and yet another container included 3-4 pieces of their kimchi which only had a subtle note of sourness signifying it wasn't fermented long enough. The Jjam Ppong is not a takeout meal as pouring the broth into the aluminum tray can be bothersome and messy. Overall, the Jjam Ppong was tasty but the seafood was scarce making me wish I just got the Jja Jang Myun. read more

Im writing this review as im actually eating. Their tabgsooyook came out as not done or completedly cook i feel. I smelled uncook pork from tangsooyook and as jja jang myun came out also the same way as tang aoo yook They were rushing and i got my food within 5 mins after i ordered suring lunch hour. That explains everything Will not come back. Im afraid ill get a stomache later today. Horrible food read more

We did not have a good experience here. The dishes left the distinctive aftertaste of MSG. I'm not sure what else to say other than that we eat much healthier when we prepare our own meals. I think their food used to be better quality many years ago. read more

So the other day I went to this food court for the first time and was overwhelmed by all the decisions. But, hidden behind the stair case was Jin Jja Roo. The service was really friendly and I ended up getting Mapa Tofu. Its this delicious dish with tofu and vegetables with rice. They told me i had an option to get vegetarian and i did. It was so good and the price was under $10 (most places have pretty high prices). I am definitely coming back here soon and trying the other dishes. read more
