No idea if this whimsical name means anything in Korean. The place is tiny, barely enough room to squeeze in 2 nightstand-sized tables on each side of the door, with 2 stools at each. The window sill on each side of the door can double as benches but they are way too tall of the tables. Nevertheless, it's better than no table at all as this place is mainly for takeout's. We really appreciate the air conditioning and not having to eat on the street. Menu is simple -- rice bowls and kimbaps are the main offerings, plus a few sides such as fish cakes and banchan. For rice bowls there are 5 choices of protein: beef, pork, chicken, fried chicken, and fried tofu. "Chicken" is grilled chicken and "fried chicken" are the bite-size boneless chicken. We all picked small fried chicken rice bowls for $7. I am not sure the difference between $10 for large serving or $3 for extra chicken, but you do have these upgrade options. The spicy version simply adds drizzles of sweet chili sauce which I highly recommend. It's like something between General Tsao's and Orange chicken, but unlike Chinese dishes, the Korean spin comes with salad green which is both healthy and refreshing. Taste & serving size were both on point, and with the $7 price tag this is a steal. The same dish at a Korean food court such as Rice Boy would cost about $12. My friend was super interested in coming to this restaurant. As he's seen it on Instagram a bunch of times we walked over and it wasn't get busy so we went ahead and ordered. I went for the beef and he went for the fried chicken. I asked specifically was it bulgogi beef and the lady stated yes (it really is not). It's beef that's been cooked without seasoning. And then theres marinade poured on top of the food afterwards. My friend said his chicken bowl was okay, but nothing to write home about. The salad was fairly fresh. I happened to come across the listing and saw they were around the corner from my hotel. I'm Korean and kimbap is a comfort food when I can find it. I got a veggie roll and a spicy pork roll. The rice was warm and perfectly soft. The seaweed wrap had a nice bit of sesame seed/oil. The spicy pork had a light bite, but your mileage may vary. Store is very small- there's only 2 tables that would seat 6 people, so would definitely take out from here. Head up to the counter and place your order (the colorful chalkboard menu will be to your right). The staff were very efficient and I received my order within 5 minutes. I got the small Fried Chicken bowl ($7)- it's a lot of chicken for this price, and DELICIOUS chicken at that. The bowl was so stuffed that they had to Saran Wrap around it to keep it closed! This is a really hidden place for cheap and tasty Korean food! Their rice bowls are a crazy good deal. I think the chicken rice bowl is the most worth it, it's $10 for a large bowl and they REALLY fill the bowl up. I also tried a large beef rice bowl for $12, and it was delicious. Checked out the new sister restaurant of Tofu Tofu and I'm happy to report that it's great. The restaurant is small and only has two seats. And by seats, I really mean window sills with TV dinner tables. So you're really here to takeout. Ordered the friend chicken small bowl for $8 and the squid kimbap for $9. It took a bit longer than the 5 minutes they quoted me but the "small" bowl was filled to the top. So much so they couldn't close the lid and needed plastic wrap. You can't beat this got $16. I have walked by this place countless of times and finally decided to try it. The owners are super sweet and I believe they also own Tofu Tofu in Chinatown (which is a great place as well). The menu is concise and simple which I appreciate, and had options for everyone (ranging from different meats, tofu options, vegetable options, etc). lululala, a delicious new inexpensive Korean restaurant, just opened on Hester Street amongst many other Asian cheap eats that border the corner with the Chrystie Street park promenade. With their motto "Finding happiness in little bowls" they offer rice bowls with assorted proteins for a mere $6. Other options include kimbap, a rice roll. The manager was extremely friendly and attentive with my bulgogi (beef) bowl that included rice, greens, onions, fresh apple cubes, kimchi and my bulgogi. While there are no tables in this small shop, I was able to sit in the window ledge to enjoy my tasty meal. Looking forward to returning to try out lululala's other items!
