I was greeted by an older gentleman with gray hair and he smelled of cigarettes. He was the person who conducted my experience. For the first 30 to 40 minutes, a man popped at me and jerked me around through the thin sheet and skin to skin with no oils or anything while I was on my belly. The poking and the prodding did not feel like a massage as my body just kept shaking back-and-forth every time he kept poking. I contemplated asking him to stop to wait for someone else because this was not a Massage at all. I already knew the ambience wasn't going to be great because of the fact that there are no doors just curtain so you can't really get very relaxed. I had requested the 90 minute combo massage which included hot stones. Maybe I should have asked clarifying questions because he did stack stones down my back, but he did not actually use them to massage any part of my body. Eventually, he did use some oils and the massage felt more like a traditional massage. I guess I just did not care for his technique and overall I was really disappointed with spending $80 to get poked and jerked around and leave with a headache from the motion sickness's and smell of cigarettes. Honestly, I didn't feel like I needed to leave a tip, but I still gave him a $10 bill because I know everyone is just out here trying to work. He looked at the bill I gave him unfolded it, he then shook his head in complete disappointment and just walked away. Maybe I should have gone with my first thought and not let it tip at all since he did not seem to appreciate what I had given him. Needless to say this is not a place I will be going back to.

I've been twice now: first with Blake and most recently with Leks, and both experiences were excellent. Even though their website emphasizes neck and shoulders, both therapists were very comfortable working on my lower body as well when I told them that I'm a runner who needs it all (and yes, they still addressed neck and shoulders thoroughly). Blake's session leaned more toward deep tissue, which was exactly what I needed at the time. It was intense, but not TOO intense. He even did some whole-body assisted stretches at the end which was a nice cherry on top. Leks took a different approach and didn't seem to want to hurt me with deep pressure, but these knots are hearty! Even though I told him he could use more pressure, his work felt more like gentler myofascial release. I did tell him that I have a race this weekend and don't want to be sore, so maybe that's why he took it a bit easier on me. Still, he targeted all of my trouble spots and I walked out feeling like a new woman. (I still need someone to dig into my right trap a bit more, but I have another voucher already purchased so I'll be back!) Both therapists clearly know what they're doing, listen well, and adapt their work to what your body actually needs in that moment. If it weren't so far from my Santa Monica home, I'd absolutely be a regular. But they're open late, so I can wait til traffic dies down on weekdays and then the drive isn't too bad. Highly recommend, especially if you're an active person who needs thoughtful, skilled bodywork rather than a cookie-cutter massage.

It's been a few years since I got my first massage from her but this time around I've been having chronic pain near the arches of my feet for almost 3 months from a lot standing at my former job and DJ sets. Kaoru listened to my concerns about these problems and assessed my feet before promptly getting to work, always making sure I could handle the pressure. It was a bit painful to break all the knots that I didn't even existed in the center of feet but I felt so much relief after despite being a bit sore after.
