Family of four came during Happy Hour to eat a dinner. We ended up spending $90.86 pre tip for food. When we entered the place it was dead inside. No other customers at 6pm in a super busy district (first red flag). We ordered 3 ramens cause it's expensive as hell in here $20 a bowl. We ordered some Happy Hour items to try and save a bit but still ended up over paying. Food came and the regular 2010 ramen was super peppery. We asked if that was normal and got told "I don't know" and she checked with her manager. She came back and said "there's a lot of toppings on the 2010." This ramen bar is pretty good. It was a little difficult so find because is located Ballston Quarter but, if you park on the 2nd floor, it's a straight shot. The atmosphere is really fun and the service was great! Everybody was super friendly and I really appreciated the manager stopping but our table to check in on our experience. They have a variety of selections and I was really impressed that they had special attention to dietary restrictions. The drinks were ok. I had the spicy margarita, which could've had a bit more tequila, but it def had enough spice to it, which I loved! My sister and I ordered the wontons and creamy shrimp share. The creamy shrimp is the best thing on the menu! It's so good! My sis and I almost fought over the last one, def try this appetizer! My ramen overall was pretty good. The tonkotsu was salty (with spinach added for some reason) and the shrimp wonton broth was flavorless. I added bok choy, mushrooms and an egg to mine. The egg tasted very strong of soy sauce (usually they don't taste that strong) and the bok choy was flavorless. The mushrooms weren't even woodear mushrooms.. I think they were baby bellas?? Highly recommend. Then we had the Flying Harvest ramen bowl and the Tonkotsu ramen. The flying harvest was good and had great flavor for a vegetarian broth. The tonkotsu was also tasty and the egg was good. However, the tonkotsu Chashu was very fatty and while the broth was good, I have definitely had better in NoVa. Overall, this was a nice casual dinner and worth returning. For the food, we each got the starter combo (two side salads, one serving of pork gyoza, and one with the crispy chicken), based on our server's recommendation. The starters were quite good and flavorful, including the salads, which you generally expect to be just a filler. For the main course, we ordered the Tonkotsu Spicy and Tonkotsu Black. Our server explained that the tonkotsu is the restaurant's specialty because the kitchen takes great care to create the broth over 20 hours. The quality is very evident. This is nothing like the standard 30 cent pack of ramen from the grocery store. You really get the benefit of slow cooking the bones and various meats. I believe both dishes we ordered are served with pork belly. Regarding spice levels, I opted for the "spicy" level. I think that sits in the middle where you can crank up one more level to "hot" or down to "mild." For me, I enjoy spicy foods. The "spicy" middle level was a good amount of heat to complement and enhance the flavors, but if your stomach can't handle a lot of spice, then you should definitely go down. For me, I think if I had ordered the "hot" I would have missed out on the other flavors. We ordered the two starter combos because we thought we would be hungry after the meal. However, we were both full, and we are big eaters. Therefore, a ramen dish without any starters may be enough for you, if you are an average eater. Finally, I want to give a shout out to the Passion Fruit Gose (pronounced goz-uh [I did not know this until I looked it up at home]) draft. If you can handle a more pronounced sour tasting beer, this is a great pairing with the Tonkotsu. I think it made this great ramen dish even better. Service was friendly and genuinely tried to be helpful by letting me sample a beer and patiently helping us navigate the menu. I think he was a little rushed and drinks/water were not refilled as they should, even for a lower price point restaurant, but this is an ongoing problem due to staff shortages in the industry now. To summarize we had two starter combos, two ramen dishes, one beer, and one soft drink. The total price for tax and 20% tip was $78. For a filling, interesting, sit-down meal in Ballston quarter, I think this is a good bargain (especially since it is so close to our home) considering, price, quality, and service. read more

Our servers, Tony and Jacob, provided great recommendations, answered all our questions, and were very friendly! We tried a variety of small dishes, our favorites were the Jinya Bun, the Crispy Chicken, the Pork Gyoza, and the Salmon Tacos! The ramen was rich and flavorful as was the Tokyo Curry rice bowl! Our favorite drink was the We Make a Nice Pear! They have a full bar so I ordered a New York Sour which was amazing! The food is so unique and delicious. Definitely my favorite ramen place around. The spicy umami miso ramen is heaven in the mouth and the crispy chicken rivals any fried chicken joint. The service is fantastic. Both the Vince, our server, and Marisol the hostess were superb. They were cheerful and prompt and greeted us with bright smiles. While asking about the special, we were told that it was going on from Monday-Friday from the host. When we sat at the bar, we were told that it is no longer going on and the sign needs to be taken down. We went to eat elsewhere and while walking past, the sign was STILL there 40 minutes later. The sign has been there for over 1 week since the last time we passed the restaurant. It's sad that either the bartender is lying or the manager needs to lie to get customers in.
