I wanted to love this place as I've had it bookmarked forever, but sadly, the food wasn't for me. Service was excellent, and the restaurant was pretty spacious. Parking wasn't bad either, there are lots and a garage nearby. However, the food itself fell flat for me. We ordered the crispy chicken happy hour special, which comes with a side salad. The chicken was on the dry side. Whenever I order Kaarage, it usually comes with a dipping sauce, but there was none here and that would've really helped out. The dressing on the side salad was way too acidic, making it hard to eat as well. In addition, we ordered the takoyaki as an appetizer. The takoyaki themselves were pretty solid, but the texture of the mayo was off. I'm not sure if they make their mayo in-house, but i noticed it was curdled. EDIT: after reading the restaurant's response, the texture I noticed was because it's an egg tartar sauce For the ramen, we ordered Jinya Tonkotsu Black and Creamy Veggie Ramen. Pricing is standard for DFW ramen restaurants, although *slightly* higher than some others (by like $1). The base ramen comes with a good variety of toppings! However, the ramen was just okay. The noodles are on the skinnier side, which I prefer thicker, chewier noodles. The pork chashu serving was small, and it tasted kind of old and wasn't that tender nor flavorful. The broth was just alright. I prefer soft-boiled, jammy ramen eggs, but the ajitama here was cooked longer than I would've liked. Ironically, I thought the veggie ramen was *much* better. The broth had better flavor, and they use different noodles than the tonkotsu, which were thicker (and exactly what I like!). Lastly, we had the matcha tiramisu for dessert. On a positive note, the matcha flavor was detectable. However, the tiramisu crème wasn't that fluffy, and there were noticeable amounts of undissolved sugar. read more

We ordered the black oil garlic tonkotsu and original tonkotsu ramen. The black oil garlic version taste was pretty good, however did not look like any black oil garlic tonkotsu ramen I've had anywhere else; usually there is a thin film of black oil floating on the top but this had none. Overall not perfect, but not bad. The original Tonkotsu ramen broth was insanely salty and did not taste like tonkotsu base, but rather a soy sauce base taken to the max. Three people tried and could not handle the saltiness. You would think that the broth would be lighter in color than the black oil version, yet it was MUCH darker. Lastly, the eggs in all ramens were over cooked but at least they gave a whole egg. Would I go back again? It's hard to say, but it's certainly not a place I would go out of the way to visit. read more

I usually go to the one in Victory Park. I liked this one bc parking was a lot easier. There are plenty shops around also. Every time I come here, it is for the spicy creamy vegan! Me and few friends needed a hangover lunch and JINYA hit the spot! JINYA Tonkotsu Black ramen looked like their classic specialty so most of us ordered that and it did not disappoint! The noodles were delightfully chewy and the broth had a rich and full flavor without being overly fatty; I finished every drop of the garlicky goodness. The pork chashu was tender and the egg had a jammy orange yolk. The Birria ramen sounded interesting but a bit gimmicky. They also have chicken ramen for those who cannot appreciate the deliciousness that pork offers. The interior was cozy and upscale for a ramen spot and they have an outdoor patio which is nearly as large as the inside. The service was respectable but not noteworthy. Cons: A little pricey but I guess that's par for the course in Preston Hollow. $23 for my bowl of ramen after tax & tip. We sat outside and the cilantro flew off our mini tacos before we got them. I thought it odd that they didn't just bring more cilantro, but still very tasty. We did sit outside, but I thought the service was still VERY slow considering it wasn't crowded. Our server was kind, knowledgeable and polite, but honestly didn't deserve the tip I left. There were several times we were looking around for her. I understand if other tables sat after us get their meals first, but a large party sat after us was already done eating before we got our meals and there were 3 of us. It took over 45 minutes for our food and I don't think it was the kitchen judging by other tables. When we were done eating, it was over 15 minutes before she came by. Our server went to a nearby table but didn't say she would be right back or check in with us or anything. I left cash with a generous tip because I didn't want to continue waiting for her to come back with change when we finally got the bill. I had the birria ramen, the flavor was on point and I appreciated that it did not come with cheese. Service was good but all the staff holla something in Japanese when any customer enters or exists. I opted for the shrimp wonton ramen. It came with a heavy fish smell but was pretty good! I added a dollop of the spicy sauce on the table and that really added depth to the flavor. We ordered the crunchy rice with spicy tuna and I enjoyed it, my husband said it wasn't spicy. We also got the pork gyoza with we thoroughly enjoyed. We also ordered the JINYA bun which we both really like also. The drinks weren't great. You may be better off ordering something simple like a jack and coke, the do have a full bar. I'm always on the hunt for a good bowl of Ramen. Jinya did not disappoint. The service was so awesome, environment was a vibe, and to food Is top notch. We ordered the Crispy Fried Chicken, Pork Gyoza and the Black Tonkotsu. The Crispy Fried Chicken was out of this world delicious. It came with a dipping sauce. The Pork Gyoza were so flavorful and juicy with a hint of lemongrass and ginger. The Black Tonkotsu had perfect seasoning. Rich, with a broth that has body to it, almost light a thin sauce. It was outstanding. The energy from the staff and the environment itself, makes this the perfect place to hang out and catchup with friends over a bowl of delicious Ramen and appetizers. Jinya is one of my favorite ramen spots. Even if it is a chain, I find that no matter where I go, it's so spot on and consistent that I enjoy it every time. I was pleasantly delighted to find out that they were able to make any alcoholic drink into a mocktail, which I greatly appreciated. It was delicious as well. It was a lychee based drink, and with the ginger beer (I think), it was a delicious, refreshing drink. We sat outside and our food came so fast! This is a solid spot for ramen! The food was def a great portion and good quality. I got the shrimp wonton ramen ($18.80) and it was good but I couldn't really taste the shrimp broth it said it had. We also got the matcha mochi ($5.50), it comes with 2 pieces and it was good. Very hard to mess up mochi. I think for the price point- this place may not be worth it but I think it's def worth trying once. I will say the seating is nice and clean but the service was slightly pushy. We had a great experience overall during our first time at JINYA, which happened to be on Valentine's Day. Ramen bowls for dinner run about $18 a bowl typically, but they were running a special for 2 bowls of ramen, 2 non-alcoholic drinks, and potstickers for $40, so we took advantage of that. A couple highlights: - the atmosphere was really beautiful (well decorated for a small square footage) & great outdoors seating as an option as well - while the night was busy, servers were prompt and friendly - ramen bowls were delicious (we got the classic tonkatsu bowl and the black tonkatsu bowl) - we opted for the impossible meat potstickers just to try it out (instead of pork) and I would 100% get them again A couple of things they could improve: - their lemonade is basically country time lemonade so i would pass on getting that again - we never got a refill on our other drinks throughout the night so we were a bit disappointed about that Overall, would definitely come back again and try out the other multitude of ramen bowl options they have on the menu. read more

This ramen bar is great. I've tried 3 different ramen combos on the menu (yuzu shio, shrimp wonton, chicken), and they've all been phenomenally realized. The apps (pork bun, seaweed salad, croquettes) have also been great, delicious all around. During the day, the tinted windows provide a fun view of the people shopping. The best ramen I've ever had. Mm mm mm. So full of flavor. I definitely recommend what I got because the dish is prepared w/fresh made noodles that have the perfect texture, tender meat, hearty broth and the most complementary toppings. The only modification I made was to have a hard boiled egg instead of soft. I do wish I would've known they put the dried seaweed in the bowl though, because it got soggy but it's ok. Next time I'll just be sure to ask that it's served on the side. Nonetheless, my server Veronica was exceptional as was the service. The inside is nicely decorated & provides a variety of different seating options (solo space at the bar, intimate couple seating, open floor for small groups or booth options as well). I also like that you can somewhat see the chefs preparing each meal behind the bar..in some way it makes you feel included in the process lol. The only warnings I have to give are that one - since this location is near Trader Joe's just know the parking around the area isn't the best & two, if you're sensitive to sound then brace yourself for when you and guests first walk in or leave as the staff do provide very enthusiastic greetings/farewells. I've been a loyal JINYA customer for years and regularly visit multiple locations, including Virginia, so this review is especially disappointing to write. During my visit to the Walnut Hill location, my to-go chicken order was initially not brought out at all. I didn't even want it anymore, but the other guests at the table encouraged me to still get it so we could eat it later. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a sad choice -- the chicken had hair on it. Between the delay, the lack of attention to the order, and the serious cleanliness issue, this experience fell far below the standard I expect from JINYA. Food safety is non-negotiable, and this incident completely ruined my confidence in this particular location. I will continue to visit other JINYA locations that have consistently delivered quality and care, but I will not be returning to the Walnut Hill location. read more

Yesterday marked my 34th birthday and I decided I wanted Jinya's as my celebration meal. Dara provided us with excellent service, we seated quickly, given the run down of the specials of the month, she handled our inquiries on some of the menu changes fluidly, and she helped in getting our 18mo olds food out in a timely manner...I mean it was quick!! For 12.99 it's literally the best kids meal that you could find anywhere!! Ramen, chicken, fruit, greens, and french fries!!! There's also ice cream, but sadly my son has a dairy allergy, but hey he was happy what more can I ask for!! I got the Spicy Umami Miso Ramen with a seasoned egg, bamboo, with a pork gyoza and salad combo. My wife got the Tonkatsu Black Ramen with the pork gyoza and salad combo as well. The ambience was nice, mood lighting with bay floor to ceiling windows, good music mashup. I went to get a quick lunch and decided on Jinya so I can eat the creamy vegan ramen. I walk in and someone in front of me is picking up a delivery order so I wait. The guy leaves and the host asks what order am I picking up. I said I would like to sit and eat lunch. Okay. Sit at the bar and gives me menu and asks if I have eaten here before. I say yes. I wait and wait and finally stood up and walked over to ask him if I can order. He says yes, in minute, as soon as he finishes something on the computer. I order the creamy vegan ramen and water. Pretty simple. The ramen comes with no spoon so I am for a spoon, then proceedd to tell me how to eat it. Excuse me? I can eat it however I want to. A few minutes later, he brings the water. I finish eating and wait for the bill but no one is around. No host, no servers, hardly any customers. I wait and wait an wait. 10 minutes later, I threw down a $20 bill and left. Thank God I had cash today otherwise I would have been late for my appointment only because I wanted to eat the creamy vegan ramen! Not sure if the staff is unaware that people pop into lunch on a schedule. Also, ramen is quick food, it is nit fine dining. I know, I grew up in Japan. Next time, do better please. This restaurant has a very nice atmosphere & great food. I would recommend giving this restaurant a try if you like Japanese Asian cuisine & Ramen NOODLES. My husband and I tried this restaurant the other night. He ordered the Vegan Bowl & I ordered the Chicken Bowl. To the Vegan Bowl he added dumplings. To my Chicken Bowl I added bok-choy & corn. I also added edamame beans to my bowl. Both dishes were very good. As for drinks I ordered a Japanese Old Fashion & he, Japanese beer. The drinks were also very good.
