I really like this place. Anytime I come home from a business trip, I always ask my husband to pick up a bowl of ramen from Jinya. It's kind of like a home remedy soup that helps soothe my jet-lag body before I can have a good night sleep. Then I would wake up feeling all happy and better from a long, tiring business trip! Jinya is not a place for you to sit and chat for two hours. It's a good place to get your ramen fix then leave in 30 mins or an hour. Highly recommend! read more

I tried a variety of things on the menu to include: -JINYA bun (pork belly) -Tonkotsu Black -Creamy Vegan Ramen -Sparkling Strawberry Lemonade My favorites include the JINYA bun and the creamy Vegan Ramen. You would think that being "vegan" it would take away from the rich experience of having ramen on a cold day, nope! I'd probably prefer the vegan ramen over the pork based broth. Give it a try if you haven't already. Service is quick, venue is a bit snug (but most good ramen places are), servers are all polite. Without a doubt, this is going to be my go to ramen place. This is probably my5th of 6th time here. You know how it's getting pretty sweaty in this hot weather? A bowl of ramen doesn't sound quite appetizing. However, Jinya has this new dish that is brothless, totally cool for the summer: Hiyashi Mazesoba. I tried it and it was delicious. Of course, hot ramen is still queen but this one seems more fitting for me... Good job Jinya! Another good thing to visit Jinya when it's hot outside is that the wait is totally much more bearable. Ordered the special spicy maze men only to arrive and find out the sauce wasn't available. Had to substitute with sesame sauce. That was disappointing. The icing on the cake was getting gyozas that were burnt on the bottom but completely raw in the middle. How did they manage to do that?! Didn't realize eating the first one. Thought it had a funny mushy texture. Went in for the second one. Bit it in half for inspection. It was completely raw. Gross! Raw pork isn't pleasant to eat and very unsafe! Hopefully food poisoning doesn't set in tonight. This isn't the first time I've received undercooked food from this place. Last time I ordered crispy chicken that was rare in the middle. I got take out ramen for my granddaughter, chicken ramen, wish I'd have gotten a pic before she started eating it but it had 2 teeny pieces of chicken about 2.5" long and no more than 1/8" thick for the whole bowl of ramen! SO DELICIOUS! I got the cilantro ramen and substituted the house-made wontons for the chicken and it was absolutely to die for. Great sake, they had several choices of flavored sake, mostly cold, some unfiltered, one hot - on an extensive drink menu. Options to build your own ramen, as well as small plates and desserts. I didn't get apps or a dessert because I was so full from the huge bowl of ramen. You can also get a noodle "refill", as well as a refill on any ingredients you want. We waited about 45 minutes, on a Saturday night this place was packed, but well worth the wait. Bar seating and communal seating at high tables. It was loud and crowded, the location is pretty small. Very affordable food prices, though the sake prices are higher per carafe than most of the ramen bowls. I thought it was great and I can't wait to come back! read more

Okay, JINYA...I see you with your ramen ;) It's been a while that I've been to a ramen place and this spot was good. I was happy with the ramen, JINYA bun and the service enough to make me want to come back for more. This is definitely the weather for it! This place was pretty busy for a Tuesday night and my group of 4 had a 20 minute wait. We ended up being seated at the bar, which was okay, but I wish this location was larger so that it would be able to incorporate large groups or even a few double dates comfortably. I had my chair kicked several times by the wait staff as they were hurrying to serve everyone around us. How cool are those purse holders under the bar though? Loved that. I got the Cha Cha Cha ramen bowl and a JINYA chicken bun. My ramen was packed with bean sprouts, green onions and garlic with a boiled egg and pork chashu and thick noodles to absorb all of that broth. It tasted good, it smelled good and it definitely did not disappoint my first visit to this ramen bar. My chicken bun was good, nothing I would drive over from WJ for, but definitely a nice welcoming to my ramen. I didn't get any other beverage other than water, but I did see some soda cans floating around. I'm not sure if that's what you get when you order soda. You can always order a refill of your noodles for only $1.50 and you know I did! ;) I got the second helping of noodles for my broth and then packed that sucker up to go since my eyes were bigger than my stomach at that point. read more

Wow wow wow!!!! I was very impressed with this establishment. The crispy fried chicken left me wanting for more and more. The Ponzo sauce was a perfect match. The pork gyoza was off the hook; succulent and so so good. I had the Jinya Tonkotsu Black, which had a pork broth, pork chatsu. Kikurage, green onion, seaweed, seasoned egg, garlic chips and oil, fried onion, spicy sauce and served with thin noodles. I added some extra hot sauce and boy oh boy it hit the spot. It has been mentioned in other reviews, this place is small and the majority of their seating is communal. For that reason alone I don't think I will dine-in there again unless it is way off hours and I know I can sit at one of the few tables. Not only is the seating communal it is at bar-height tables, with swiveling floor mounted chairs that are not pleasant to "mount." I sat on the edge of a communal table and you can't really enter the chair from the edge of the table because it is right up against the table leg, so I had to squeeze into the seat by brushing against the guy in the next seat. I like to be comfortable when I go out to eat and I was not comfortable at this Jinya, not at all. I enjoyed my soup, but not enough to endure going back. I got the Tonkotsu Spicy. I didn't make any alterations but did ask for it "hot". I would opt for a different meat next time. The Pork Chashu didn't have a texture I enjoyed. The soup wasn't anything close to what I would consider "hot" when it is described as "Spicy" right in the name and then I opt for the hottest version. They had what I believe was the same spicy paste they used when preparing it at the table so I added about half the jar to my soup and it was now approaching medium spiciness. The server was really fantastic. My wife couldn't find the dish she had ordered before on the menu and the server was able to tell her it had been discontinued but she suggest a similar dish with modifications to get it very close to that previous menu item. I'm not a fan of noodle soups to go, like Pho or Ramen or chinese noodle soups like One More Noodle House sell, so unfortunately it's unlikely that I order from Jinya again. read more

My son has been begging me to go to JINYA for months now. He has come with his friends before and loves it. So today we finally came. I got the JINYA Chicken Raman bowl. So did my son. My daughter got the Tokyo curry rice. We also started with some potstickers. Everything was really good. The cool thing about coming here is if you eat all your noodles and still have broth, you can order a refill of noodles that you dump back in your bowl. So there is no reason to leave hungry. You can also add all sorts of extras to your Raman. BUT it can really add up quick if you don't pay attention. The restaurant itself is really small so we had to wait a while to get a table. My favorite ramen is Shoyu (chicken and soy sauce broth) Ramen. While tonkotsu (pork broth), and other styles of ramen are also delicious, they don't give me the broth buzz that comes from a traditional bowl of Tokyo style ramen. That said, I just returned from Japan, having experienced the best shoyu ramen I've ever had, in Nara, of all places, and made it my mission to find a good shoyu ramen, in the SLC. Looking over Jinya's menu, I noticed that they had an 'Old Skool Ramen', but wasn't sure, so I called prior to visiting, and asked the host if he knew if the OSR was actually shoyu ramen. He couldn't answer my question. He was like 'shoyu'? Strike one. LOL. When I actually visited, I was hoping to enlist the aid of one of the chefs/servers, to answer my question. Once again I was met with confusion. Strike two. The chef actually showed me what the base was, and it looked like a shoyu base, so I went ahead and ordered it. Verdict: The flavor of the Old Skool Ramen was pretty good, and yes it is their version of Shoyu Ramen. Here's where it gets dicey - $11.50 for a regular sized bowl of ramen? It was pretty good, but not $11.50 good. I'll stick with Tosh's Ramen at $7.95 per bowl. In the end, service was prompt, and not in my face, all the time, which I prefer. And although the prices are outrageous, it's decent food. If you're OK with overpaying for ramen, this is a legitimate option. read more

I've been searching for a ramen restaurant similar to my favorite one in New York and this one is pretty close. I ordered the Jinya Bun along with Tonkatsu Spicy Ramen. My boyfriend ordered the Tonkatsu Blakc. The Jinya Bun is amazing, the bun is sweet and the meat is tendar is savory. Just what I love! However, my boyfriend didn't like the sweet bun so it might throw you off if you've never had it or not into it. The ramen comes in a large bowl and was heavy on the noodles, the broth was super creamy and spicy. I tried the Tonkatsu Black and I thought the broth was a bit thick but overall still tasty. The ramen consist of bean sprouts, a large portion of pork belly(YUM!) and kikurage. I didn't realize mine didn't come with an egg and was pretty bummed out but I'll be sure to add it next time. I'm huge on noodles and my boyfriend is more into the broth, it was nice to get extra noodles so that I could finish it all. I believe for extra it's about $1.50. The overall atmosphere is very chill and intimate. They have table/booth seating, the ramen bar, a high tables and outdoor seating. We sat at the high table and it's a bit snug/untimste to the person next to you. For me it was a little hard to get into the seat because I'm so short but that's more of a personal problem lol! We're passing through Salt Lake City and was craving ramen. I didn't feel like sitting in so I ordered takeout. I tried the premium tonkatsu ramen. It was amazing! I ate more of the broth than anything else. The flavor of the ramen was so tasty and the kikurage was a great addition to it because I never tried it with ramen before. It's usually a pleasant experience when I come here! I'm glad the second location opened, as the wait has been much more reasonable the last few times I've gone. On my most recent visit we ordered the vegan tacos, and they were honestly the best part of our meal. I highly recommend, but wish they were a little more reasonably priced for the amount you get (only two per order and they're tiny!). I usually get their spicy creamy vegan ramen, and although it's always good, this time something was off. The flavor was just wasn't as distinct, and it didn't blow me away like it normally does. I was also pretty sad that you can no longer add a poached egg to your ramen. Our server said he wasn't sure why it was taken away. I still really like this place, but feel there are other ramen restaurants that offer more to non-dairy vegetarians. read more

This was our first "real Ramen" experience and we were not disappointed! It's a pretty small restaurant and we went at lunch time on a Friday but our party of 3 was still seated immediately. Our waiter was very friendly, attentive, and helpful for us newbies. We asked what we should try and he went through the favorites and we chose from there. We ordered the Sprouting Up Ramen, the Spicy Chicken Ramen, and a Cilantro Shrimp Ramen. Everything was so delicious! The Spicy Chicken had the perfect heat, it had a nice kick but wasn't too spicy. The Sprouting Up had amazing broth, it was definitely my favorite broth. The shrimp in the cilantro Shrimp Ramen was crazy good. My only complaint is that the Cilantro Shrimp Ramen came with a HUGE handful of Cilantro on top. Cilantro being such a strong herb it was way too much. I took a lot of it off and then it was perfect. Each bowl is very filling and can easily be made into 2 meal. They even advertise that they will bring you more noodles if you want more! We will definitely be back soon to try more of their delicious sounding menu items! read more

I am loving all the new vegan options at Jinya! My wife and I really like ramen, and we've often gone to the Jinya chain because they have a couple of nice vegan choices. Well, it's been over a year since Jinya closed its doors to inside dining, but now that it's reopened it's better than ever, with three different vegan ramens and several side dishes to choose from. The ramen we chose was filling and flavorful, with more than enough food to fill a big appetite. We also had the seaweed salad (a favorite) and tried the new caramelized cauliflower. Service was friendly and attentive, and while the price was a little high, we were satisfied with our experience. read more
