Jinya is great. My husband and I love the spicy chicken ramen (I add an egg) and it's been great every time we've had it. Our son gets the kids meal and it's hit or miss. The kids ramen is good and he like it but the chicken that comes with it is sometimes too hard, crunchy? Difficult for him to eat and seems off. The gyoza is good and the service has overall been good. Sometimes it's super loud and crowded and makes it hard to have a conversation. read more

A small and cozy spot situated on the corner of the Fashion Place Mall, Jinya replicates the models in its other locations, namely its dimly lit interior, friendly service staff, and of course, its delicious food. Jinya rounds out this experience with popular tunes - ranging from trance/techno, and modern hip-hop and pop songs from the radio. Now, back to the topic of food. You really can't go wrong with the ramen (obviously what they're known for - reference the name of the restaurant if you begin to doubt yourself), but another suggestion would be to target the rice bowls, appetizers, and appetizers. Wait, did I say that twice? Yeah, you should probably get the appetizers. Last word - space/wait. You can easily be waiting anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 hours plus. Why? It's cold, and ramen is hot. I've eaten here a few times, and enjoyed each visit. Recently their Sugar House location opened up and I like that one as well, as it has more room, but this location just seems to hold more charm. One of the things that comes with a smaller location, however, is more waiting. If you come at peak time, you should just probably expect to wait a little bit. If ever in the whole valley there was a place that I wished used Yelp Nowait, it's this spot. I would love to be able to put my name on the waitlist from the app and then get notifications about when to come in. But I digress... It's cozy and wonderful, filled with the scent of simmering ramen and warm kitchen dishes. I actually was surprised at how much I liked the non-ramen dishes. Don't overlook them, because even though they're not wildly experimental (gyoza, for example) they are done with real precision and care. On to the ramen. There are cheaper bowls around town to be had, for sure. But it's so steady here, that I just don't think you'll get a bad bowl. Go for the tonkotsu, of course, if you want the fatty rich version. I had a specialty dark garlic ramen (I think?) and liked it, too. And as others have mentioned, try it with the thick noodles and see if you like it. And when you eat all the noodles, get more. I think it's a dollar and they let you splash in a fresh batch. That's the way to do it. Overall, it's a great stop. It's a great off-hours stop for me, as I have a flexible schedule. I'm from California but come to Utah to snowboard at least once a year. I stay in Midvale because of the ski bus so Jinya is a spot I love to frequent when I'm in town. Last year my friends and I went two nights in a row during our weekend visit because we loved it so much! All the ramen options are amazing and the pork bun appetizer too. This season I wanted my boyfriend to experience Jinya but they were doing takeout and delivery only due to covid so we ordered it for delivery to our hotel. I was skeptical because ramen doesn't usually travel well but they had the ingredients separated from the broth to keep it fresh and it was just as good when it got to me! I was literally craving it when I got to town but didn't want to do delivery - so glad I did! Will be back again. read more

Just slurpin' up my ramen to some reggae beats. This former Starbucks was turned into a sleek and modern ramen bar and it is very tiny. It was packed at lunch on a Wednesday. Be prepared to be eating elbow to elbow with your fellow dining companions. There is community seating in long tables and bars. The decor is clean and modern. They have dishes, bowls and condiment jars with their name on them. If you are OCD, you will love how all of these items are perfectly stacked and arranged. Very pleasing. The service was top notch and the interior is slick.. I feel like I am in Vegas for some reason. I guess they have a Vegas location too so that would make sense. 1) Sauteed shisito peppers with bonito flakes: great appetizer and not to filling. 2) JINYA Tonkatsu Black Ramen (with a spinach topping): Creamy and garlicky broth was delicious. It came with a thinner ramen noodle and some slices of tonkatsu. The server recommended some spinach as a topping and I thought it was a great addition. 3) Spicy Umami Ramen: Ground pork in a gingery bright broth. Very tasty. Served with a thicker noodle. I've heard that the wait time for this place is very long, but I came Friday night around 6 pm and got seated practically immediately. Through out the night I can see the place start getting pack but it doesn't seem to be a two hour wait like in the beginning, I'm guessing the hype died down enough to have a decent wait time. This place isn't that big. I know a Starbucks used to be where it is. It shares the parking lot with fedex, so do be mindful where you park if fedex is still opened. When I first stepped into the place, the smell of ramen broth and garlic is all over. The menu isn't that large, but there are a lot of very delicious items on there. Do keep in mind that sometimes waitress might misunderstand what you want, so be careful when you're ordering that they do have what you want. I ordered "chicken wings", but instead gotten chicken pieces. When I was ordering I thought that the wings was 7 pieces, but she was asking me if I want 5 piece instead. I thought there was other options or she was helping me watch my weight. When it came it was only fried chicken meat. I'm not sure how they consider a piece of meat was, but I'm sure I got more than 5 piece of meat. It was still very delicious. I also ordered the jinya bun. It was very good, but the kewpie mayo kinda over powered everything. The meat on it was super tender. The bun was nice and it does soak up all the wonderful sauce from the meat. For the main course I had the premium tonkotsu white ramen. The broth was super thick and rich. The noodles they used was a thin egg noodle. I added mince pork(forgot the actual name) and bamboo (not on the menu but you can ask for it). Everything on my bowl was super delicious. My friend ordered the cha cha cha. It is a very strong garlic broth ramen. When I say strong, I mean it! Someone ordered it that was sitting 5-6 person away and I can smell the garlic. I had a taste of the broth, and you'll definitely need a mint or mouthwash after. One good part about this is that you do get a whole egg. The noodles they used is more of a thick one. This place is totally worth it. The wait time might be long at days, but you'll get really good food. Another plus is that there isn't much ramen places here in slc. read more

Another ramen spot where you'll wait 30+ minutes for a tiny table, and be rushed out the door in a very passive aggressive way before fully getting to enjoy your meal and the company that you've come to eat with. The ramen was great, very satisfying, and much appreciated on a cold winter night. That being said, I don't think it's SO AMAZING that I would gladly wait that long for a table, and for the food to be served (1 hour) to eat it again. The food. We got fried brussels sprouts, fried cauliflower, and a JINYA bun as starters. The fried veggies weren't served with any sauce. We got through half of them, saying "These are good, but they'd be better with sauce". Then our server brought the sauce tray over. It was a trio of gyoza sauce, a hot sauce, and something else (can't remember). I was disappointed that they have multiple fried appetizers on the menu without a special sauce for anything. The JINYA bun was really yummy, but I don't know if it was $5 yummy. You would need 3 to make a meal. For the main event, we tried the cilantro lime shrimp ramen (new), the JINYA Tonkotsu black, and the sprouting up ramen. All the ramens were great and I'd gladly get any of them again. Our server showed clear signs of fatigue and impatience. She came to the table 3 times to attempt to take our bowls away, while I was still not done eating. This was within 25 minutes of receiving our food. I might lean on the slow side with eating, but I'm not exceptionally slow. I'm probably closer to average. But the server made me feel like I was being rushed. She even took fresh place settings for our table and placed them on the 2-seater table next to us, just to make it extra clear that our table needed to be cleared ASAP to make way for the next guests who have waited way too long for a table. I thought this was a really passive aggressive move and not a good way to make people want to return. read more

Smaller place and always busy especially on those cold winter days and nights . They do have a creative and good ramen selection. I always like the abundance of toppings and being able to press my own garlic into the soup. You can go from simple ramens to fully involved with many toppings to your liking as you can always add additions. The pre created bowls already offer plenty of toppings on their own. One of my only draw backs is that I feel their soup is on the saltier side than some other ramen spots but nonetheless flavorful and satisfying. I do tend to go light on salt so that that with a grain of salt :) ha. Service has always been prompt and they really push through a lot of people for their size. Our server Ryan was 5 stars! Immediately greeted upon arrival in this quaint, small space. Always a good sign. Service was spot on. Not too attentive, but right there when you needed cutlery or dishes needed to be cleared. I got takoyaki. Enjoyed it very much. Wish there was more than one piece of octopus, but the batter was cooked just right for me. No doughy center. The toppings were a great compliment and for the price a good portion size. $8. I also ordered the Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen $12. Medium spicy. Added a side of bok choy for $1 extra. I was satisfied. Noodles were cooked al dente. Overall great experience. Will be back! I got the Yuzu Shio Delight because I wanted a lighter broth. The ramen noodles had a nice chewy bite. Went during dinner, so it was fairly busy/crowded. It took about 20 minutes to be seated, which isn't *too* long. I expect this to be the norm when it's chilly outside. read more

I have been craving ramen ever since I left CA and Utah seemed like it was in short supply. Luckily I found this place and I was delightfully surprised. I know that it is a chain restaurant but the flavor was phenomenal. During my first visit I ordered the tangy shrimp and cilantro ramen and added green onions, bok choy, and garlic chips. The shrimp was awesome! I thought that it would be grilled but when I got it I was surprised to see the it was tempura fried. It wasn't a problem however because it really added to the broth. I have since gone back again and ordered the spicy creamy vegan, a surprise since I'm not vegan, however it is so flavorful you would even realize it! We ordered the brussel sprout appetizer as well to start and the taste was great however the portion size seems small for how much you pay. Glad to have found such a good ramen place nearby! We will definitely be frequenting this place now that we know it exists! read more

I honestly love coming to Jinya on any occasion. I like to come here for lunch with friends. It's a great spot to hang out and catch up over some great ramen. We've even come here to sit out on the patio for dinner and it was such a great vibe. As of right now, I don't believe they are doing dine in, just take out? If they are, whoops. If we weren't in the middle of a pandemic, you should expect to be sitting next to strangers. My favorite thing to get here is the spicy tonkatsu with extra noodles, corn, and the onsen egg. The last time I came here, they stopped doing the onsen egg though, sad. The broth is very rich and creamy, which I enjoy. I also really like the thick noodles as well that comes with the tonkatsu. It has a good chewy texture to the bite. If you guys are looking to try some appetizers, I'm a big fan of the takoyaki too. read more

Ramen wasted!! I left so full and sweating from the heat of the extra heat I added to it. Which was my plan. I had the "sprouting up" which was basically spicy chicken. Added artichokes and they were amazing! My friend got an egg which I think I'm going to be doing for sure next time, make that 2!! The hot sauce on the table looked like sriracha and I was hoping it was something more, I was very pleased. Great flavor and brought the heat!! This place is a go-to for my wife and I. I'm not always in the mood for Ramen but it can often be a great comfort food. We've dined in before and our experience wasn't great. The dine in area is tiny and you always end up elbow to elbow with perfect strangers. However, even before the pandemic, we found that ordering takeout was the way to go at Jinya. They keep the broth separate from the other ingredients so it tastes fresh upon combining the two at home. I love JINYA so much, I don't even bother with any other local ramen places. I won't name any particular places but my husband brought me ramen last night from another restaurant nearby (that wasn't JINYA), and I couldn't look past the greasy Top Ramen style noodles or their non-runny egg. JINYA has very fresh, medium sized noodles, the most perfect runny egg, and a broth that are all equally comforting with such a great depth of flavor. Smaller restaurant with a fun atmosphere and decor, a casual/hipster kind of feel. The staff was all really friendly. We got there before 6:00 and were just ahead of a big crowd. Lots of different ramen options. We got a Jinya Bun for a starter, the bun was interesting but the filling was So good! If you eat all your noodles before your soup is fine (which you probably will) you can get more noddles for an extra cost. There is a kids menu. A couple long tables- but wouldn't be the best for a huge group. Definitely liked it and will go again read more
