I really wanted to like their Ramen but it wasn't for me. Overpriced for it's-ok food. I had a tonkotsu Ramen with thin noodle. Soup was thin and had no flavor of pork/vegetables. For me tonkotsu Ramen should have rich flavor and depth of ingredients but not theirs. Also the noodle itself was soft like $1 instant Ramen. I tried the rice bowl too but it wasn't great for the price too. The inside of the restaurant is really nice. They have loud (in a good way) music and more like bar vibe. Spur of the moment date night dinner spot. It was a Saturday night and we were surprised to be able to get a booth right away. Service was great and food even better. i hate to put this review to 1 star but it is so well deserved. I love the food and the staff is extremely nice. However, it's a huge problem when you are advertising promotions and not honoring them. This is essentially overcharging the customer. The owner (several months ago) told me to email and he would fix the problems with the points on the app. I emailed twice, and no reply. I went to the restaurant, and the managers showed motivation to fix it but nothing ever got done. I sent records of payments, and was recently informed that their IT actually had the nerve to request itemized receipts (all they needed to do was to subtract out tax and solve the problem). I dont have the itemized receipts and if they really want them--they could simply look all this information up in their own IT system. if they ever fix this issue and honor their promotions, instead of asking me for receipts and wasting my time, i will change the review. read more

I've given this place multiple tries and each time it's disappointing. The service at this location is much better than at Mosaic District. The servers were friendlier but the bartender is who's topped this review to 3 stars. Poke salmon mini tacos - thought this would be mini cubed pieces (like the picture) but instead the salmon came out minced with a single piece of jalapeño and cilantro. It was a bit fishy so hard to finish. Spicy tuna mini tacos - I'm a lover of tuna tartare, poke tuna, tuna shashimi, basically anything raw tuna but i couldn't get down with these tacos. They were NOT fresh. I would not recommend any of these tacos. Takayoki - these little balls were nice and saucy although it could have cooked a little longer. The middle was still a little mushy and doughy. Red Garnet - the noodles and pork chashu were cooked to the right tenderness that it melted in your mouth. I would rate it a little higher if the broth wasn't so salty I couldn't finish my ramen. Another note is the prices are pretty steep for a bowl of ramen. And don't even think about the toppings! $1.50 for green onions. Something so staple to a dish...you can probably buy two whole bunches of green onions for the same price of the teaspoon they're charging. Warning: this is not a real Ramen place. I went to the Reston Virginia location today, which is new sort of. A year and a half ago I reviewed the Merrifield location. Also was not stellar. The problem with this place is that it is a giant lumbering corporate slug with 40 locations. It's the Fridays or maybe Chili's of Ramen. I ordered Pork Tonkotsu Ramen "hot" which is supposed to be hottest. Not exactly but that's not the interesting thing. When the ramen comes its pork belly, Korean style really, not Tonkotsu which is of course Japanese. At all. So I was starved and would have eaten a shoe frankly so I plowed ahead. I went for the pork belly and it was icy cold. Then my old nemesis, the whole boiled egg raised its' ugly head (trauma from Merrifield a year and a half ago). Don't know if you've ever tried to eat a whole boiled egg, not half, half is easy, when it's wet and slippery and with disposable chopsticks it's a challenge to eating. It too was cold. As I sat at the bar eating I mentioned both to the bartender, didn't want any compensation, just a note for them. He called over a manager who did the ritualistic dance and I repeated myself and wanted to keep eating because my shoes were becoming more tempting. He brought over more pork belly that presumably was warmer than ice cold and an egg cut in half. We had previously had a much too long conversation about a whole egg without utensils to cut it, is difficult and cutting it in half is manageable and a lot less aggravating. BTW the halved egg was about 40F degrees. No thanks. It was here that I realised I should have shut up about all of it. Corporate reared its' ugly head. In the course of asking him if he or the staff had tried to actually eat a whole boiled very slippery egg with provided chopsticks he basically said no and said this whole thing is decided at "Corporate". That's when all the puzzle pieces fell into place. Some suit was making rules for the staffs at 40 locations and if he/she declares that a whole egg was the way to go the local management would let the place burn rather than contradict said suit. Now the conversation and my previous visit made perfect sense. Some clown with too much say, failed greatness by settling for their own ignorance and stifling creativity at the field level. You could see it in the manager's eyes. Ramen is nearly the soul of Japan. The broth is its heart. The noodles cannot be overstated as to their relationship to the broth and that heart. The rest is what defines the chef and the place of business typically in Japan. The good places in the US know this. Jinya does not. This Ramen is soulless as a result of nothing more than greed and arrogance. Locally go to Marumen in Fairfax. They know exactly what they are doing. On the upside every bartender and server was really polite and genuinely nice. Also they had a good selection of local beer. I am certain Jinya will thrive because my old adage is "suburbanites will eat anything". read more

A question for modern restaurants: What good is moving to automation if the people have to step in to do the job anyway? When you pay this much (not counting tip), you pay for the experience, not just the noodles. Good thing my server (Max) was able to serve despite the system's best efforts. The atmosphere is interesting, and their HUMAN servers (mine was Max) are excellent. The food tastes very good (if expensive for a bowl of Ramen). Too bad they're being edged out by a TERRIBLE automated ordering system and menu which nearly ruins the whole experience. I'll elaborate: It's VERY glitchy, it's not user friendly, it doesn't have all the items from the menu (and in fact has many outdated items). Let me be specific: For starters, it has TWO digital menus (no physical ones!) only one of which (the white one in the picture) can be used to order, and it's incomplete: The Jinya items were outdated (seriously, the House specialties), my drink was not included on the menu - it was a Coca Cola. (Picture enclosed) It took me 20 minutes to realize the system did not send my order through... WHILE IT INDICATED it was sent. When I tried to correct it, it would not let me pay or order put it through, saying it was already sent (picture!) Thankfully, Max came to the rescue and got my drink immediately and put my order in (that's how I knew what was outdated - the employees knew!) This whole menu system also demands your phone number and a new log in (privacy advocates need not order!) To be fair: Management seemed very attentive and interested in my experience. So to recap: Automated system: 25 minutes of nothing Humans: Around 10 minutes and I got everything. So I repeat from above: What good is moving to replace your people if they have to step in to do the job anyway? read more

Came to RTC to have lunch and decided to try Jinya as it's cold. After entering the restaurant, you will encounter the host to your right to be seated. After being seated we were checked on by our server promptly. Th server was nice and went through the menu. I decided to order the salmon avocado for appetizer and the spicy chicken ramen as entree. The salmon avocado was fresh and flavorful. The ramen had a good tangy taste to it and the noodles were al-dente. We didn't order any desserts as I was too full to eat anything but will try the mochas next time. Highly recommended to try Jinya if you haven't yet! read more

Nice place! Stopped by after work on a weeknight with co-workers. There is a bar and plenty of bar seating. Looks like a good place to gather. In addition, they feature outdoor patio seating and happy hour. Our server, Maria, was attentive and she was happy to orient us to the menu, including the cocktails, mocktails, and food. We each tried a different ramen. I tried the Tonkotsu Spicy Ramen, which I enjoyed. You can choose the level of spice. Maria recommended the addition of a seasoned egg, which was delicious. There are plenty of optional toppings you can select. If you live or work locally, you can place an order for pickup. I was a little surprised that at 3:00 pm when I walked inside that there would be a 15 minute wait for a table for four adults. There were certainly empty tables from what I can see. Maybe they're limiting how many people can eat inside? I don't know. But we ended up eating outside when our friends arrived and brought along their dog. We were the only people outside on a slightly chilly November afternoon. There is plenty of outside seating but no heat lamps. As a starter, I tried the takoyaki octopus ball and I loved all the flavors. It's a fried ball with a small bit of octopus inside sitting on a bed of Kewpie mayonnaise and okonomiyaki sauce. I actually have tried many of the Kewpie salad dressings and really like the brand. My main course was the tonkotsu black ramen bowl with the kale noodle substitute. I thought the texture of the kale noodle was very much like regular noodles. I couldn't tell the difference except for its light green color. When I had asked the server about it afterwards, he said it was made with 40% kale and rest was wheat flour. I was a little disappointed to hear that. When I got home to do a little more research, I couldn't find additional information on Jinya's website in their nutritional information page. They list the nutritional information for all the food served but the kale noodles. I think Jinya should indicate that the kale noodles does contain gluten for anyone looking for gf. I was not looking for gf but looking for low carb. I do believe it is lower in carbs than regular noodles but would like to know more about its exact content. I really enjoyed the broth. It's the broth that makes a good bowl of ramen and it was perfect for the weather. I wish my egg was sliced in half because it wasn't very glamorous of me to bite into it but then we're also supposed slurp our soup so I guess who cares. The chashu was a little different than the Chinese char siu that I was expecting. The meat was very soft and thin. This was the perfect amount. Service: Excellent! Service was fast and friendly. I've been here twice, once for dine in and once to pick up takeout. The ramen dishes are very good but the service was pretty bad both times. Super slow service when dining in. Also, their crispy rice appetizer is not good at all. Super chewy and extremely oily. When we did takeout, the order was not ready at the promised time. All in all I believe we waited a solid 25 minutes after the promised time and it wasn't busy at all. The ramen portions are really good. Months after our first initial visit, my husband and I went back to Jinya. You can tell they've really fine tuned their food, service, and operations since their opening. It had a great Saturday date night vibe, and the service was phenomenal. I liked their takoyaki last time, so we got that again and it was very tasty - great flavor, and a good start to the evening. I ordered the spicy tonkatsu (3 spice levels offered: mild, spicy, or hot) - I got the "hot" and it was a really good heat for this spicy lover. My husband had the tonkotsu black, which was our favorite for the night. The broth was a perfect balance of flavor without being too salty. Loved their seasoned egg, a MUST have add-on if your ramen doesn't come with it. We had an excellent experience the second time around and were thoroughly impressed at the improvements they've made. Came to Jinya for the second time tonight. Ordered the pork gyoza and Chicken Chashu Bowl. Both were delicious! The gyoza was perfectly cooked with tasty seasoning inside and within the sauce. The chicken bowl was massive. I ordered the regular size and feel like it was easily a big enough portion for three meals. On top of good food, I feel that Jinya's staff has excellent service and will go above and beyond to ensure you have a great experience. Definitely recommend! read more

My original post stands corrected. The general manager reached out to us (rare nowadays) and asked we pay then a second visit. We decided to come back after our first experience and were treated with the utmost professionalism and respect. We were greeted from the beginning and seated promptly. The shift manager came, greeted us and made sure we were taken care of . Most importantly, our server Max was fantastic! He went above and beyond to give us the best recommendations on the menu, on top of that his friendly presence made the experience so much better! This is one the best ramen bar I have ever seen. The ambiance is so beautiful esp the flower ceiling. The staff is very friendly and the food is delicious! OMG I didn't know Jinya opened in RTC!! Jinya in Mosaic was on my list to try, but since this location is so close to home, I wanted to give it a go. What a treat on a cold night! I was here on a Wednesday with one of my girl friends, and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The ambiance was overall dark with "spotlights" over the tables, chic and modern. Not a good selfie light for ladies cuz it casts shadow under the eyes (yes, I tried to take a selfie ha!), but excellent for foodie pics! Takoyaki was one of the best I've had in this area! The batter was just enough gooey inside with a huge chunk of octopus in it. I also never had it with egg tartar, but wow, this was delicious! It's a must try. I ordered the Tonkotsu Spicy ramen, with the spicy level of HOT. I always order the tonkotsu everywhere else, so I can honestly say the soup was super good. Other places, I would have to ask for the spicy sauce to actually taste the spicyness, but for this one, it was perfect! It was the type of spicy that warms you from the core of your tummy =) One thing though.. the chashu - meat - it was a good size but too much fat. I could only eat 1 piece because the texture did not sit well with me. My pescatarian friend ordered the Spicy Creamy Vegan ramen... But I did not try it. It looked very creamy haha but by looking at the presentation, I think I could enjoy it. I liked all the ingredient in there! As a dessert, we shared matcha mochi - you can never go wrong with mochi!! We actually ordered couple cocktails, old fashion and mine... I can't remember the name. First time having cocktails with ramen... And I was totally surprised how well they paired! My purplish cocktail was so refreshing!! (It was the last one on the cocktail menu) Overall, Jinya experience was excellent, I will definitely be back on one of these cold nights again! This new JINYA location is gorgeous! It's really spacious and thoughtfully decorated - love the big barseat-style tables and the mural on one of the back walls. There's a big bar in the middle of this location, so I can see this being a hopping place for happy hour (once we get back to being able to ave hopping happy hours, that is!) I was already a big fan of the Mosaic location so I knew that I would be happy with my food. It travels really well the way they package it to take home! You just heat up your soup separately and then pour it into the toppings. They do bottled up versions of their cocktails now, too, and the Lychee-tini is both gorgeous and soooooo good.
