First time to visit Sense of Thai , Bethesda . The Thai restaurant is just opening on first June. Kind of authentic Thai food. I and my family , party of four had dinner in this restaurant last night , we got the table by the window right the way . The interior restaurant is beautiful and elegance design. The bar is fancy with decorations. There were amazing peacock sculpture in the center of the bar and its beautiful tail in the center of the restaurant. We got a whole calamari and chicken satay for appetizers , so fantastic. Then the entree we got spicy Basil with chicken, lotus leaf rice , and Chiangmai noodles, they are kind of signature on the menu with fresh herbs,, perfect balance of sweet, spicy, sour, and savory. We order takeout from there occasionally. The food of course is delicious and the takeout is bagged very well in a strong bag. They are thoughtful and even put in utensils. Two of my family members do not like spicy food, so they are pretty good at making it just right. If you like the larb gai Thai hot - it is phenomenal, but you'll be sweating after the second bite. The only downside is there is usually a long line for the host podium and it can take a few minutes to pick up your food. The upside is that they are extremely busy, usually pretty packed, and I hope to stay in that spot for a long time to come. Sense of Thai is a chain Thai restaurant known for its high quality food and aesthetic ambiance. This location in Chantilly has plenty of free lot parking in the complex. I've been to the Sense of Thai in One Loudoun and definitely like this one better. The ambiance was beautiful inside - it's great for a work dinner, first date, or birthday celebration. There's also plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, conducive to big groups. The service was also nice, our server checked in on us the right amount and made sure we had utensils, water, etc. The food also was flavorful and presented well. The chicken spicy basil rice was seasoned perfectly, had a good ratio of meat to rice, and was balanced with the egg on top. The portions are also perfect for sharing. I've heard a lot of great things about Sense of Thai from friends and wanted to try it out. The interior is spacious and gorgeous, especially with the holiday decorations up. I had a reservation for Sunday at 1 pm and it didn't get packed until ~ 2 pm. For appetizers, we tried the spring rolls - they were hot, crispy and tasty (5/5). For drinks we had Thai ice tea (4/5) and two holiday drinks (one was good while the other one tasted like cough syrup). For the entrees, we had drunken noodles veg + tofu (4/5) spice level 3, green curry (5/5) spice level 3, and chicken lo mein with flat rice noodles (5/5) spice level 4. All three dishes weren't spicy enough and had to ask for the spice tray. For dessert we tried the lychee cheesecake (4/5). Our server was polite and professional. We were super excited about having somewhere little bit more close to us. To complement the festive season, the restaurant was beautifully decorated. Party of 8 went for dinner in December and the place was beautifully decorated. We ordered a few mocktails which were delicious. Yuzu lemonade and lychee Thai tea were the best! Hands down one of the prettiest restaurants I've been to in a while. Sense of Thai in Chantilly is beautiful and you can tell they really take pride in their decor. You should definitely check out their Christmas theme when it's up. Service was nice and the place is quite large with a fully stocked bar. Us two small gals ordered the pork belly appetizer, which was basically a mini entrée, and it was pretty good. The outer layer was crispy, the pork belly pieces were bite sized, and the sticky rice was starchy in a good way. I thought the sauce complemented the savory pork, although my friend thought the sauce was a little sus. We also ordered the drunken noodles to get a classic Thai dish, and it was good. My friend and I came here on a whim for her birthday. It is a beautiful restaurant! They have a good menu with a great variety of dishes, and service was absolutely terrific. Prices are a little higher than I expected but the food was worth it and the portions were good sized. Because I mentioned my friend's birthday, they made a big production of it. They brought out a lighted sign, a dessert with a sparkler in in, and sang and took pictures! It was so fun! We ordered a couple of appetizers, beverages, two main course dishes and desserts. Prices are on the higher end for Thai cuisine, but the quality and ambiance help balance it out. We visited on a Saturday, and it was very busy, so I'd recommend making a reservation if you plan to go during peak times. Service was a little slower than usual, and unfortunately, I did have an unusual experience with a small piece of metal in one of the dishes. When I brought it up to the staff afterward, the response was simply an apology, which was surprising given the seriousness of the situation. I was disappointed in this restaurant. The decor is wonderful. The service was great. The food was just OK. I had pineapple fried rice which is a dish that I have ordered a few times before at other Thai restaurants. This one did not measure up at all. There was only one small shrimp and three small pieces of chicken in it. Some onion, cashews, raisins, pineapple and egg but the taste was blah. It was supposed to have pork as well but I didn't see any. Certainly not worth what I paid for it. My husband got the Hang Over Lo Mein. The lo mein was strangely, in short pieces. This is the first time in 60 years of eating lo mein that we have been served short lo mein noodles. It tasted ok but the serving was small for a noodle dish. Always wanted to try this place and I heard this was their new location (another location in's Ashburn). I was told that they are sister restaurants with Tiki Thai - their decor is very simple. I must say though - if your tolerance of spicy is not strong, this place will be rough for you! It's not a bad or good thing, but just so you're aware. Usually Thai restaurants will ask for spice level but this place did not. Some of the foods that others in my group had were too spicy for them. My tolerance for spicy food is pretty good and even I thought they were pretty spicy. A lot of the dishes were super saucy and very salty. The waiter must've refilled my drink multiple times. There are several spots made for Instagram. My kids loved taking in all the photo moments. My partner and I enjoyed the great cocktail menu. My kids ordered milk, and their drinks, along with my partner's cocktail, came out with mini rubber ducks. It was a cute touch. There is a kids menu, but we ordered off the main menu. The menu is extensive with so many great options. We had 2 orders of the dumplings, Tom Yum Gai soup, chicken satay, roasted duck quesadilla, and the pad thai. The best food of all we ordered was the pad thai (fantastic!) and the chicken satay with the yummy peanut sauce. My kids devoured the dumplings, which i thought were okay. The duck quesadilla was not a big hit. My partner enjoyed it but the kids gave it a hard pass. I thought it was okay, but I wouldn't order it again. It was a little too sweet. Back to the cocktails, because they were fantastic. I got an old fashioned. And my partner got something that resembled more of a Pisco Sour. The restaurant is in a generic shopping plaza with a Giant grocery store. But this place makes it worth the stop. It's so stylish and the service is friendly and efficient. No complaints though My bartender/server was excellent. He made great suggestions and made my drinks perfect for me (especially after telling him that I didn't like my drinks too sweet). I originally wanted to go to Sense of Thai because I saw a lot of people post about the Miracle Holiday Pop Up, which features limited-time, festive cocktails in these cute, themed cups that are also available for purchase. I was a bit disappointed because there weren't any mocktail versions of the alcoholic cocktails or mocktail options to choose from because I don't drink alcohol. Regardless, the restaurant looked absolutely stunning. The restaurant normally looks very elegant and the holiday decor only enhanced the atmosphere. Sense of Thai is under the Pattana Restaurant Group and has overlapping menu items with the other restaurants under the restaurant group like Tiki Thai, Dok Khao, and Thai. Because I live near Tiki Thai, my husband and I tried to order items that are not on the Tiki Thai menu. Food and Drink Ordered: * worth trying - [Matcha Thai Tea*]: I like Thai tea and I like matcha so I loved the combination. No flavor overpowered the other. -[Love Yuzu*]: A little sweet but I think the tartness of the drink balances it out. - [Crab Rangoons]: I thought there was too much cream cheese in the filling. - [Lamb Massamun Curry*]: The curry is a little bit on the sweet side and the lamb wasn't that tender but the flavors were really good. I liked the addition of the curry egg fried rice. - [Seafood Volcano*]: With a name like Seafood Volcano, I was expecting more than stir-fried seafood with vegetables. But, overall, the dish was tasty. I love the flavor of Thai basil. My kids ordered the beef noodles which were kind of bland. The soft shell crab was great and my wife enjoyed her pad Thai.. My issue and I could be wrong was the automatic service fee for a party of 5. I take my family out a few times a month first time I received an auto fee for the 5 of us. Percentage was fine 20% is standard but to not tell someone it's already included is a bit disingenuous. So pay attention to your bill there. I'm so excited to have this new Thai restaurant in South Riding--it's a refreshing addition to the area! The space has a great modern vibe that's perfect for both family meals and business outings. I've been here twice now--once for a happy hour date and another time with family, where we got to sit outside and enjoy the amazing weather next to the fire posts. The food comes out quickly, and everything we've tried has been really good. I love that they put a creative spin on their appetizers--they take some liberties with the classics, making them fancy, fun, and unique. We've probably tried half the appetizer menu at this point, and while they're all tasty, we're starting to lean more toward the main courses moving forward. The drinks are also well thought out and a fun addition to the experience. This was an expensive order (over $70) to not get this right. And it's right on the ticket! Highly disappointed because I detest white meat! And I never mentioned chicken on the phone. I specifically asked the woman I spoke to of she thought the beef or pork would be best and she said beef! I told her I always get beef and would stick with that and thanked her. I'm not understanding how beef turned into chicken. I want my beef... Update: When the restaurant manager saw the review he called me immediately to discuss the issue. I was given two options. To come back to the restaurant that day for the dish I ordered (free of charge) or to receive a refund. Well, I really wanted the beef! It's my favorite dish and their food is really good. I told him I didn't live in the area, but would try to come back the following weekend. We ended up not going back to the area then, so I called back and told them that my plans had changed and that I would take the refund instead. The wait staff was also warm and welcoming they gave us time to look over the menu and gave us a lot of option to choose from as well. The food was delicious. Let's start with the appetizer the curry puff were absolutely amazing the sauce that you use to dip the puffs in should be bottle up and sold. Our meal ended up being 3 hours long because the service was so slow and it was odd because the other tables around us were being taken care of. She must of been overwhelmed. I sat at the bar to take in the view of the full beautiful surroundings. The bar tender service was great, I even received a few little drink making lessons. They do take reservations but on this day the restaurant was not accepting them. However, I noticed even with the crowd walking in, they were seated in a decent amount of time and were able to get drinks in hand before being seated.
