Pineapple Cakes - Gift Box of 10 Pcs - $39.50 (taken November 2024)
    Carol W.

Stellar Taiwanese bakery specializing in Taiwanese Pineapple Cakes. I'm a long time supporter of this mom and pop shop. As reference, I bought 300pcs back in October 2022 as wedding favors and they were of course a huge hit!! I came back again to pick up Pasalubong (in Filipino culture, it's a gift or souvenir given to a friend or relative by a person who has returned from a trip or arrived for a visit) ahead of a trip to New Orleans and these are perfect! They are not ChiaTe (most famous brand in Taiwan and the brand I literally cart home boxes and boxes) but they are the absolute best stateside! They have two varieties, the one in the golden package shown or another in a pink package. The difference between the two is that the pink package has a more buttery taste while the golden package has a more tangy pineapple taste! Each are sold individually ($3-4 per price) or packaged in a box (as shown). They also have an assortment of baked breads and other Taiwanese specialities such as suncakes (taiyang bin) and wife cakes (lao po bing).

Pick 6 of your own Taiwanese mooncakes and they will neatly arrange it in a gift box for you!

This my go-to place for Taiwanese mooncakes and eats. Their mungbean style mooncakes are flakey on the outside with a savory/sweet inside. When you buy 6 pieces, they'll neatly arrange the mooncakes for you in a gift box and also a gift bag for easy gifting (or just eat it yourself at home, we won't judge!). Though the pastries are the stars of the show IMO, you can't go wrong with anything you eat there. Absolutely pop into IFT Bakery if you're in the area!

A Chinese style bakery specialized in traditional, authentic Taiwanese pastries (cakes). We got 3 of the most celebrated varieties namely, the pineapple cake, the sun cake and the Yen Yung cake (meat based). Each cake is individually wrapped. Ours came in a box of a dozen. You can mix and match the varieties. They all look good and appetizing. The best of the 3 is the pineapple cake which is flaky and the right amount of sweetness. The Yen Yung cake (with meat and salted egg yolk) is also flaky and tasty. The sun cake is also flaky but is a bit blend tasting and not as good as the other 2. A bit skimpy on the filling too! The cakes are a bit pricy but do not have the excessive sweetness of American pastries. Would try the pineapple cake again but not the sun cake!

Good small Asian bakery. Lots of Taiwanese style pastries to choose from, like pineapple cake and sun cake etc. They also carry some frozen food as well.

It's a great small asian bakery that's been here a while. Located in the San Gabriel market plaza, next to the water place. It's better to come here for your bread fix after shopping at the supermarket than buying it there. Just walk a little more for better quality breakfast/snack. It's a small place and they don't have that many selection, especially if you're looking for savory breads, but so far they're pretty good. Most small asian bakery don't have a lot of savory bread options anyway. They do open a little later than the other bakeries. Small bakery usually closes at 5 or 6pm but this place closes at 8pm, so you can still squeeze in after dinner!

Fresh bread could be seen as they were cutting and packaging it in front of my eyes. They have the THICK toast that is often used as dessert. My gf always gets their specialty item here, the flaky meat filled pork round pie. It is $6 each an its crazy but lots of people buy it as gifts. They have a assortment of frozen zhong (sticky rice tamales) and buns in the fridge. Really convenient.

Been coming here for a year, and this is my one-stop shop for bakery and goods. I really love the sun cakes, moon cakes, and pineapple breads. They even have a matcha egg custard bread, which is my go to. The matcha cream filling inside is really sweet and creamy!

I'm so in love with their mochis! Best Chinese style mochis in LA. I'm a big fan of fugetsu do's mochis, but these are even better!

The cheapest and simplest one is the Portuguese egg tart and the more fancy ones are either $1.75 or $2. I tried all of them: Portuguese egg tart, cheese tart, caramel croissant tart, tiramisu tart, berry tart, and coconut tart (my favorite). We also got the salted egg yolk croissant for only $1 which is a steal although I wish it was a tad bit sweeter to balance out the salt. It was a smooth process to go in and buy. They also have a variety of specialty desserts that are in the $8 price range if you want something more extravagant. I tried the King Panda which was filled with cream cheese mousse. There's both indoor and outdoor seating, but more of the latter. We went on a Saturday and it was pretty packed but we managed to snag a seat.

Out the of the 4 items, tiramisu stood out the most. It has a strong cacao flavor, not overly sweet and heavy. The caramel egg tart is just alright, it is flaky if you eat it warm or toast it again at home. The regular egg tart is 99 cents, it's not bad but definitely not amazing. I think you can't expect too much with that price. The osmanthus pear cheesecake was my least favorite. It is very sweet and heavy, the filling/syrup that they use is too overwhelming. The store was simple and you can smell the baked goods as you walked in to the store. The service was just average, the staff were not very welcoming. Parking could be a problem. Overall, I would give this place a 3.5/5, not a must go place. Their items are just average. If you are looking for something affordability over quality and taste then this is the place to go.

Price ranged from $2.75-$3.75 per bread. Small and cozy interior. Very warm for some reason but we didn't mind since it's winter. It was pretty quiet. I think folks tend to go to bakeries earlier in the day for more selection and fresher bread. They have a good mix of classic and interesting new breads like rose bread (not depicted), but a lot of them were sold out. We ate the bread the next day and it still tasted very fresh. My favorite was the matcha bread with yogurt filling. The taro bun had real bits of taro in the center. Wish there was a little more though. All the breads were good in flavor, not too salty and or sweet. They also have some deals when you buy a certain amount of certain items. Shared parking lot since it's situated in a plaza.
