    Chocolate cake
    Fernando D.

I couldn't resist when I saw their cakes. All of it looked so delicious and I was especially craving chocolate. I ordered one slice of their chocolate cakes and enjoyed it. It was not overly sweet and had a good soft texture. It tasted fresh. They had a lot of pastries to choose from, but I only got dessert. Next time, I will try their pastries. Service was quick and efficient. Parking was limited especially on a weekend, but we were able to find parking. There was also a few seats where I enjoyed my slice of cake at. It is a cute small bakery and they also take card.

Vanilla cake in this was amazing. Wish there were more than 2 strawberries. The whipped cream did NOT taste artificial at all I could tell it was fresh and the cake and berry cut it nicely. Mochi was nice and thin. 10/10 would get it again.

I was already in the plaza and decided to stop by. They have a wide variety of breads, both sweet and savory, as well as desserts. I ended up getting the Earl Grey Bread, Black Sesame Bread, and the Creme Brulee. The Earl Grey flavor was pretty light in my opinion, but it was still good. The black sesame and creme brulee were definitely the standouts. The black sesame flavor was strong throughout, which I really liked, and the creme brulee had great texture and flavor. The staff was okay overall, though the woman checking us out was very nice. Pricing is also not bad. Parking was easy in the plaza lot. Definitely a spot I'd come back to if I'm in the area.

JJ Bakery is always such a treat! Have been coming here for years an and have a few absolute favorites here: the custard, the walnut bread, and especially the mango mochi. The mango mochi is really amazing... huge, soft, fresh, and perfectly sweet. One of the best I've ever had. Parking is usually super easy too. Most of the time, I can park right in front of the bakery, depending on the time of day. Huge convenience! Prices are great, the quality is consistent, and everything tastes fresh. Definitely one of my go-to bakeries. Highly recommend!

Sesame Bun and Almond Puff Pastry

JJ Bakery is a local Arcadia bakery, specializing in Asian bread, buns, lunar new year mooncakes, egg tarts and pies. Today, I went there to see if I could get a puff pastry filled with sugar custard. They ran out. No hot dog bun either. The chicken pies are sold in the morning and go fast. They also sell Chinese food, buns, beef stew, and rice burritos. Think convenient store meets bakery. Their cakes are not too sweet and pretty darn tasty.

    Supreme Salted Rice Ball

JJ Bakery is similar in concept to 85°C Bakery -- you grab the pastries you want as you walk through a line and pay at the counter. The only thing is that JJ Bakery is MILES better as the food is so much more delicious and satisfying. My husband and I got their Curry Beef Pie and their Supreme Salted Rice Ball (with Chinese sausage, egg, and pork sung) for a quick breakfast. There was an explosion of flavors in the curry pie, and the light, flaky crust just elevated the pastry to a whole new level. The rice ball was the perfect combination of tastes and textures, from the crispy pork sung to the sweet and savory sausage to the fluffy, sticky rice. I couldn't decide which pastry was better :) Just note that this place is more grab-and-go (we ate in our car). Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area!

I am always on the look out for a new bakery to try. I have passed by JJ Bakery in Arcadia many times. Finally; I decided to stop by. The parking lot is spacious, but shared with other businesses. The place was cleanThe service was fast and the staff was nice. By the time we went there which was approaching their closing time, they had run out of a few items. There were still plenty of options to choose from. I was pleased with the selection of items I chose. Next visit, I will try to stop by earlier to try even more pastries.

    Double sesame pastry. Soooo yummy!

This holiday season, some ladies will be excited to say "He went to Jared!" but I'm just as stoked to report that "He went to JJs!" The black + white sesame pastry is so darn good, and there's nothing like it that I've found in SD. Not too sweet, flaky and bursting with big sesame flavor. So thank you to my special someone for thinking of me during your LA trip and making my Christmas pastry dream come true!

Nice place. Cute cakes..so pretty. I would come here again if I am in the area. It has good drinks and lovely delicious cakes. I think this place overall has yummy goodies. Service is fine but I had a communication issue. Not sure if my English translates to their understanding.

    Black forest cake
    Selene S.

Bought their 8" Black Forest Cake for $32 for someone's birthday. It tasted great, not too sweet BUT the layers of chocolate sponge cake were just too thin! This is honestly like 70% cream than cake at this point (see my picture). We didn't buy this just to eat cream. And the layers of cake weren't even- the middle layer only went halfway. We're definitely not coming back to get this cake again. Not worth your money.

Super excited because the mini fruit tarts are going to look amazing on my newly purchased dessert tray! I was feeling a bit sleepy so I decided to fuel up & eat breakfast while I was there. I ordered a Vanilla Latte & a side order of 3 eggs + Sausage Links. If you're a big eater and want the additional potatoes and pancakes, I recommend paying a few dollars more and ordering the Breakfast platter. The Vanilla Latte came in a paper cup (a bit bummed out by not being able to take a more IG worthy picture of that), but it actually tasted really good! Same with the sausage links - it was probably one of the best tasting ones I've had for breakfast in a while. Aside from their wide selection of pastries and food options, their customer service was phenomenal. Every customer that walked through the door was greeted upon arrival and thanked on their way out. The restaurant was very clean and the cakes looked so beautiful behind the glass case. I had a pleasant experience today at Merengue Bakery & Cafe and can't wait to come back soon to try a slice of their chocolate cake!

It's fun here cuz you can get a little shopping cart and collect your breads. Kinda went crazy and got a bunch to try. The breads looked like they would be dry but weren't and were all really soft, pillowy, and fluffy. The Black Forest bread was topped with toasted almonds, had jiggly thick sweet custard, and a layer of semi sweet chocolate. The hades bread was the only kinda dry bread and was filled with bittersweet chocolate and had a thin sweet Oreo crust on the bottom like a cheesecake would. The pork floss bread had a swirl of sweet savory pork floss and was topped with nutty crunchy sesame seeds. The banana cream bread was filled with like this cheesecake tasting light cream and had some real bananas inside too. The garlic bread was really good, soft, and had a streak of yummy, savory, garlicy, cheesy goodness. They even had a cilantro pork floss cake?! Wasn't getting any cilantro flaves but the cake was nicely spongy, light, vanillay, and had a swirl of pork floss that actually worked with it. Their black sesame cake was also very spongy, jiggly, light, and airy with good black sesame flaves. They even let you try some free samples of bread which my grandma really enjoyed. Overall this place is pretty good. Black Forest $4.50 Hades $6 Pork floss $5 Banana cream $4.50 Garlic bread $4.50 Cilantro pork floss sponge $5 Black sesame sponge $3.75

I chose the red bean one thinking it was part of the deal since there weren't any signs indicating it was excluded. The worker told me I had to pick something else because the red bean ones don't count. I was really confused but did as she asked. I was just trying to say that the sign was misleading and she didn't know what to say. After that she didn't want to deal with me anymore and got her coworker to ring me up instead, who rolled her eyes at the original checker (or maybe at me, who knows) but took over. I thought ok maybe she thought I had a complaint or needed more help and this other worker is the appropriate person to escalate to, but this other worker didn't acknowledge what just happened and continued ringing me up. She plopped the pastries into each box without checking I wanted them split a certain way (I had 2 boxes). OK yeah I could've said something when I noticed and I didn't. She was kind of just willy nilly handling the pastries and boxes without being gentle. I was already upset but seeing that pushed me to give them 1 star. That kind of behavior is what my parents would've whooped me for because her attitude was clearly showing. It was 100% my fault for not paying better attention to the sign as the red bean ones were in fact not pictured, but the original checker's response was appalling to me. Not even as a consumer but as someone who works and oversees a team in customer service. And then the other girl just throwing the moon cakes (not actually throwing but I can't think of a better word) - I was so irked. Tbf it was hot asf inside so I can't blame them entirely for not having the patience to be friendlier. There's no AC inside the store. I'll never come to this location again.
