Their coffee is fantastic. Sourced and roasted by JJ, it's the most flavourful espresso around. Iced Americano is my go-to. They have non-dairy options available to pour yourself. Oat, soy, etc. Unheard of in the coffee world where most places will charge you an extra $1 or more for non-dairy options. Cozy place with a large patio. Always busy, especially on weekends, but the staff are great and move things along quickly. Plenty of parking in the Park & Tilford center. read more

My mom and I needed a quick bite to eat before heading to an appointment in North Vancouver so we dropped by the Park & Tilford location of JJ Bean coffee shop. She had a Chive & Cheddar scone with a cup of English Breakfast tea while I had a Yoggu Coconut Yogurt Parfait with a Matcha Latte. It was a simple meal but we were both very impressed! The scone was large, flavorful and very moist inside.  Yoggu is a vegan yogurt. This was my first time trying it and I really enjoyed it. Combined with some Blueberry chia compote, and a housemade Pumpkin Seed & Flax Granola, it was perfect for me. This is my favourite coffee shop. The staff are awesome, the coffee is really good and the atmosphere is super. There's a nice fireplace and the music is really varied during the day. Sometimes it's a bit too loud to have a conversation, but there's outside tables when the weather is fine. It's also right beside the Park and Tilford Gardens, which is a bonus. We are regulars at this JJ's but I can never check in due to the new 'no wireless until after 5pm' rule. Our after noon coffee is never after 3pm. Reasons we love this JJ's over all others; 1- Outdoor deck area is like someone's back yard, the bonus is part of the seating area can be enclosed, and there's a heat lamp! 2- The view of the mountains in the distance is insanely beautiful. 3- Indoor seating is like being in a cozy ski lodge, equipped with a fireplace! 4- Always friendly, never any barista-tude. 5- Proximity to the lovely & relaxing P&T gardens to walk around, drink coffee and zone out. 6- Of course the coffee is yummy! Fitting with the North Vancouver location, this JJ Bean has an earthy environment. Grey and dark brown tones, with lots of natural light filling the space. With large open windows and lots of wood furniture, this is a great place to enjoy a coffee after a day's hike. In the summer, you can also sit on their large patio, with long wood tables. There's lots of couch seating as well as a fireplace which is the perfect cozy spot in the winter. As always, their lattes are always made right. I like my coffee. But I'm not a crazy snob about it. And I have to say, JJ Bean usually hits the spot for me. The prices are decent, the americano was solid and really the pooches outside made my day. I also noticed there was a weird "party room" near the back with several people who all had laptops...not sure what kind of party that was but i guess a decent option for study groups or dungeon and dragon afficionados?? I compare this place to Starbucks, I like both hot and cold coffees and I find of the ones I drink (Mocha, Vanilla latte) I prefer Starbucks hot and JJ's iced. JJ's stays true to coffee and doesn't branch out into things like other coffee joints do. Depending on who serves you the hot coffee they can taste burnt or even a bit bitter. The iced coffee for some reason doesn't. Their treats are hands down the best I have ever had at any coffee shop. They use a local bakery for some of their sweets which I like. (Buy local!) The peanutbutter bar is delicious and their scones are to die for. The muffins are tasty with jam and butter. This review is making me hungry. Parking is available without any trouble except on a busy movie night then you will have to park further away but still in the same lot. read more

My North Van husband loves everything about North Van... so we come here to quench his coffee thirst when we're in the area. So, when my husband lived on this side of the bridge, this was our place. I would race over the bridge after work, pick him up from school (he was a mature student, I am not a coug) and we would come here to have a coffee and talk about our day. Our attendance started to dwindle after our favourite barista moved to their downtown location and stopped almost all together being on the other side of the bridge and all. Even though our visits are rare now, some of the baristas still remember our order... they make the best americanos. We also like to sit by the fireplace... actually, I don't because the seats are too low and I would rather sit at a table, but my husband likes it. They also have the best butter tarts. The crust isn't sweet (is it a little salty or is it just me?) and has raisins, but I love them anyways. The gooey filling slowly making its way onto the plate after you bite into it. Yum! They also used to have an anniversairy sale (October?) where all their espresso drinks are on sale... do they still do that? It's nice to get a coffee here before shopping at the Save On or walking around the gardens. Especially at Christmas when they have to Christmas Light Festival. read more

Seems to be all sorts of weekend "earlier" risers, but definitely the majority is chatty well-dressed and active seniors. lol, gotta love 'em. This is our weekly gathering spot to trade the weeks news, drink good coffee and, in my case, fill up on their excellent paninis (sometimes with salad). Service is always friendly if a little uneven (which is why "sometimes with salad"). However, we keep going back week after week because the coffee is good, the atmosphere is lively and it just feels right for a coffeehouse. If only it were just slightly less popular or I could get VIP seating (which might be possible if I were, in fact, a VIP). read more

Great atmosphere with a gas fireplace that actually feels warm if you are sitting right next to it and looks cozy because real wood is stacked up beside it. Can't remember what the music is in there which is good thing because it doesn't dictate the vibe. Pet peeve: the light is pretty low which is standard in cafes these days because so many people are on their computers. If these places insist on having increasingly dim lighting it is only fair that they provide a few areas with better light for those of us who still like to read at the cafe (sign my petition . . .?) OK, now for the really good stuff . . .their double-baked almond croissants are as good as the ones at Thomas Haas and almost twice the size! Crispy outside, chewy inside, studded with oodles of well-toasted, thin-sliced almonds, textbook perfect with one of their luscious lattes. The coffee beans they use are really good quality with a taste profile more European than American. Nice round mugs too, much preferable to the heavy square mugs at Starbucks if you are serious about immersing yourself in the proustian moment. My friend raves about the Southwest Chicken Wrap and their big muffins are fluffy inside and correctly crusty outside. They make all their goodies there which is pretty impressive for a cafe. Service is friendly but definitely on the slow side for the coffee bar or to grill a wrap. No problem, worth the wait. This location as well as the one on Main also has a nice private room that seats around 8 people. It can be rented for $10 an hour (it is expected that everyone will order a beverage as well). I rented it once for a meeting and it worked really well; quiet with the door closed and very reasonably priced. Well damn North Van, this is a wicked JJ Bean. I am not telling you anything new here people, the place is rad. It feels like a fancy ski lodge, a spread in House and Home magazine (that's still a thing right?), and your own backyard (if you were that fancy) all in one. I almost wished I had homework to do so I could loiter longer. The service was great - super friendly, unlike some JJ experiences I have had. Probably the nicest and biggest JJ Bean's ever. And having that private room in the back, behind the counter, is really sweet. Glad some clients had invited me here a few times, and at $10 per hour, is dirt cheap. So much so, that you ought order their pastries too ;) Like their scones more than their muffins. Pretty quiet considering the wooden doors here block out much of the noise too. Just need to call ahead and book by phone. Free wifi. Used to come here a alot to study# great atmosphere and theres a "meeting room", you can go in and study there if no one books it. Coffee is okay but the croissant is to die for! I always get a tea and a croissant. It's very easy to find and there are tons of parking spaces! Also, the cafe itself is pretty spacious so there are lots of tables :) It can get a little loud in the cafe but it's a great place to hang out or study! read more

This is without a doubt my favourite coffee shop in North Van. The coffee here is stronger than at other JJ's, they can be inconsistent elsewhere. The service is always fast. There is lots of room to sit down and work on a laptop, with power along the back bar. You can rent a lounge space for meetings or use it to quietly work when its not booked. I've been in love with JJ Bean for years, but it has gotten so good I need to leave a review: - They recently decided to proactively increase their BC staff's wages to match the minimum wage increase of their staff in ON. I know this meant some small price increase, but I am beyond willing to support a business that recognizes their staff are worth it. - They cater to so many different dietary preferences. One of the best places in Vancouver to get a vegan breakfast or lunch. Since I come here often enough for one of the baristas to remember my drink, I might as well Yelp about it. Or maybe he just remembers my watch that he commented on last time. But yup - all the reviews are spot on. Staff is very relaxed and the coffee (Americanos for me) is consistent. The interior is probably my favourite out of all the cafes in Vancouver - my friend in the industry recognized the interior as being done by some famous designer/firm - but the name escapes me. All I know is that it reminds me a sauna - a really swanky sauna with comfortable chairs. There's also a nice, sizable outdoor patio that at the entrance of the park (hence the plaza name, Park & Tilford) so you can sit outside or stroll through the park. I like to imagine that I would defeat the 20 ninjas lying in wait as I cross the bridge in the Oriental Garden. There's tons of parking in the plaza as well. It's in pretty stark contrast to the two JJ Beans closer to my house which are fine but feel far less inviting. Pay parking is a pain on Commercial and I worry about break-ins at Powell - or maybe it's just acute PTSD because a junkie in a stolen car totalled my old car several years back in the area. Hence, I make the trip across the frequently congested 2nd Narrows bridge to come here. Yup, I'm part of the problem. Haven't dragged my laptop here before but I assume there's WiFi judging by the number of laptops here. Just wish it was open later (closes at 10PM everyday) - but if they did, I would practically be living here. read more

Best Americano ever! Star taken off - due to their pricing. Also last time I got a bit ticked off because the server only gave me half of my small Americano! That combined with recent HST = regular visits there will have to stop. But americano is sure tasty! I am not of fan their pastries though - too buttery and fatty. This is a great location - inside and outside seating of all sorts. They recently renovated their outside seating area and have a great fireplace which is on in the winter. Awesome place to read, study, talk, muse, meet friends or a date, pre or post movie coffee n something. They have a cabin like ambiance and private room in the back for hourly rent sometimes which is almost like a diamond shaped tree trunk with cool lighting. I love their coffee and baked goods - particularly their blueberry bran muffin, cheese and jalapeno muffin and almond croissant :) and lots of options for reading materials. One improvement could be to keep all areas clean and free of food/dishes and to wash those bathroom floors and keep them generally clean with some bleach...smelly the last two times I went there!!! The very last couple of times I noticed all the windows open and dishes everywhere (weekend) so naturally i had bugs attacking the plates and me!! I actually had two bugs hit my shirt and die (weird!)...lots of mess on the floor not swept up. We left in a hurry! read more

I was having a great cup of hot chocolate with a friend while studying when the barista rudely told us to move to one table. We both have large laptops and paper and our food and cups and still had limited space with the two small tables combined. There were still other tables available, yet she took the table away while we still had our things on it. We were left with our dishes on our laps. The table next to us was not filled for another twenty minutes. We decided to move to where there was room for our things not having everything on our laps and not being functional.
