Simply Awful! Went there for dinner tonight. Wife and I had egg rolls, Sesame chicken, and Chicken with mixed vegetables and side of steamed rice. Let's start with what was good, and that would be the steamed rice. Although there was an extra charge for it. Egg rolls were very cold on the inside and full of grease. Yuk! Sesame chicken had lots of breading and was a bit tough. The sauce it was in tasted like it had vinegar in it, nasty! Chicken with mixed vegetables was ok, but lacked flavor. Chicken itself was ok, but the sauce was bland. $40 for this poor meal. We will never go back :(. read more

The only reason I gave it 4 star's is because, they forgot (to put in the takeout order) the sesame balls ordered, and I didn't realize it until I got home and went to eat. Tried JJ's "cigars" which are spring rolls (AKA lumpia in the Philippines) and they are very tasty. For lunch I tried the Chong Qing Noodle soup with tofu--it was very tasty and has a nice kick to it. Good fall/winter dish. The only issue I have with JJ's noodle dishes is they use spaghetti noodles. I love the place and the spaghetti noodles aren't a deal-breaker because the rest of the dish is great. I wish he would get some long-life or lo mein noodles for his dishes. read more

Blonde boiled beef and thinned no character no body brown watery sauce. No seasoning bland and boring. The cashier knew nothing about the menu and kept wiping his runny nose on his forearm while talking to me. This food was a 1 star for taste but the potion was reasonable so I gave a 2nd star for being edible. Save your money and time. No manager/ cook character only a complacent no care attitude. JJ is a gem--his daughter is a doctor who endured the pandemic at Ann Arbor where the worst off/death's door cases went. We have never ate at JJ wok before, but I had heard it was the best Asian food in Houghton. We were late after shopping in Houghton this week and I decided to order a meal from JJ's wok to bring home. Which was an hour drive. First visit impressions: the Rangoons and sesame balls were spectacular - wish I would've ordered three times as much! The sauce in my shrimp and broccoli was delicious, wanted to lick the plate :) Not impressed with the fried rice- I like mine fried and this was sticky and tasted burned like it was cooked in an overheated skillet. Not one to waste- I took it home and refried it with some chicken and doctored it up with liquid aminos... quite palatable. Probably won't order it again but definitely will be back. I have tried multiple different dishes and they are all consistently lacking in everything except oil. Every single time I have been to this small unassuming Asian food restaurant it is amazing. All of the food is made fresh right in front of you. The area where they prepare and cook the food is open so you can watch and it is so so fresh! Completely hooked on the chicken and mushrooms with crab rangoon. But I've also tried the Generals chicken, the sesame chicken, and the mixed veggies. Have never gone wrong yet. Wonderful food!!! Visited area last weekend. Need some Chinese food. Went there in person. Tried to order soup noodles, No. Tried to order fried cake, No. Tried to order other stuff, No. I have to order something I did not really want. Were asked to wait 30 minutes. After killing 30 minutes in the grocery store across street, we were told "it was messed up and wait another 30 minutes ". I went back and demanded them to do it right away as most restaurants do. The owner came back out of kitchen without mask and scolded me unamerican and then told me her daughter almost died of Covid, and he could close the door right now so I won't get my order plus blah blah. So I get money back and left. After getting back home and checked COVID-19 situations in that area. The cases are increasing daily sharply. The accumulated cases is little fewer than 700 with three deaths. It's exactly lke flu in his area. The owner was stressed out due to his personal experience. I hereby sincerely say sorry to the owner because I detonated his emotional meltdown. Please be considerate if you do want to order food there, and order in advance. But don't expect you get whatever you want and expect long time waiting, 30 minutes to 1 hour. read more
