Best moving service we've dealt with in over 30 years of frequent moves (at least 12). They moved our goods across country, including a baby grand piano and numerous antiques. All furniture was wrapped and was delivered with care. Movers were polite and Professional and took their time placing pieces where we wanted them. We've dealt with some really irresponsible companies throughout our careers so it was a real pleasure dealing with these guys. I haven't heard much good about moving companies. Recently I had to move 700 +miles from my previous address. JK Movers was the only company that my son who is in real estate would let me use. Everyone at JK Movers was very professional, there were a few glitches but that's understandable. The long and short of it, JK Movers are on the most part an honest and professional bunch of people. I would not hesitate to use them again. They were on time at the beginning and at delivery to my new place. There was no threats to keep my possessions until I paid more money. They wrapped everything in stretch wrap, my furniture was not recognizable. I have never seen anything like it. read more

I am compelled to write because I see the stars here and I had a pack of delicate AMAZING ninjas for my move. If I tell you the size my little computer apartments totaled it was about 9 TONNES of stuff! That's the size of an orca. I am and forever will be a chachka lover. I've been collecting things since I was 12. When I found out I was moving to the west coast (from the east)- one of my moments of freaks was the move & all my chachkis. I had three superheroes with me who packaged every little trinket in the most incredible way that when I u packed everything at home NOT A SINGLE THING WAS BROKEN. Like it was spider man, Superman and Batman working non stop packaging not only my chachkis but everything I've accumulated in NY for 20 yrs - it was Marvel and DC powers combined. I couldn't recommend this trio anymore. I should have taken pictures of how the art was packaged. All the frames. Wine glasses. Mason jars!? Because you know I had a canning phase. I think the team leader was Edgar. Him and his two pals are rockstars!!!!!! Also- they have hidden strength powers and the patience of heaven. They had to pack two apartments (yes because my chachka overflowed to a second home) and I am telling you- they are gold Olympians for how they handled the packing and loading the trucks in two days. Everything arrived as I was told 8 days!? And the unpacking I handled myself. The crew who delivered was also mighty strong. Again. NOTHING broke. The packing team also numbered every box or item. Wrapped and labeled as required. I had a phenomenal experience. So much that when I realized nothing broke- it put me as such ease for future moving choices (I hope not to move but you never know!?) As other reviews indicate, this company has changed a lot over time. It started as a family owned business that grew very fast and gained fame by moving ex-Presidents. Some of the growth seems to have come at the cost of sacrificing quality. When we contacted them for a quote, the process of setting up a virtual inventory survey and the app used for that were great. However, once it came time to setup a date and finalize an agreement, it became difficult to contact our rep. We would leave voicemails and there were no responses for days. Eventually we decided that we could not take the risk of them being not contactable on moving day and signed up with another mover. read more

We just did a move of our cluttered 4 bedroom house from Pittsburgh to the midwest and they did an excellent job! Communication from Jonathan was clear and we found the quote to be very reasonable. I don't feel like they were very forthcoming explaining the logistics of the move (time of packing/unloading etc) but I also didn't ask on the intake call so that's partially on me. Once I called them the week of the move I got all my questions answered. They arrived on time the day before the move to do the packing. My only complaint is they could've been more organized with the packing. They just threw random things into boxes which didn't jive well with the neurotic tendencies. All in all though the team was great. Very punctual. They packed our stuff on a Monday, left on a Tuesday and our things arrived by Friday. All of our belongings were accounted for but an old bookcase did get damaged in the process. Unloading was very quick and efficient. Our final invoice was actually slightly cheaper than the quoted amount which was great! Would use JK moving again. read more

JK/our sales person David, was recommended to us via our hairdresser for our move from Virginia to Florida. The quote was done via video chat and everything was recorded. In the end, the quoted weight was just 20 pounds less than the "actual": a little hard to believe. David was good, but that good?? We ended up packing much of our "stuff" and the wardrobe boxes, and they professionally packed the kitchen, mirrors, pictures, furniture, glass tabletops etc. We packed ourselves a lot to save money. The quote was missing all the picture/mirror boxes, but the overall cost charged was less than quoted. The packers were great. They had to bring a smaller truck up our driveway to load, and reload at their facility (expected, double handling, extra cost). They were not able to load all our stuff on to one truck so complete delivery was delayed. Our driver Al Bowman was great (in all ways) in sorting out what was to be delivered four days later by others. All the crews were thoughtful and professional. We are not sure if we have everything yet but we do have 2 boxes that do not belong to us. This worries us at the moment. We have almost no damage and overall this was a good move so far. So, yes, we would recommend. read more

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. RUINED ALL MY FURNITURE for a cross-country move from CA to VA. 2 days before move date, the driver said he couldn't fit his truck in alley way so JK added another $2,500 (when Sales Person stated a truck could easily fit there) after providing multiple videos. Day of arrival for packing and move - JK OUTSOURCED the MOVERS - to an old man, his wife - his personal truck. They come from Tennessee - BEWARE - they SMOKE and don't give any respect or care. They took over 5 hours, for what should taken 4 hour to pack. JK never calls back, they just keep sending new increased invoices to pay. They also kept pushing us off to over 5 different points of contact. Tried contacting CEO - Chuck Kuhn -with ZERO response. He went to my highschool...so much for history. Today they arrive -ALL FURNITURE DAMAGED, ripped, black marks everywhere on my white couches and bed frame....... and the most important box that has all the bolts to bed, feet to couches and chairs and wheels is MISSING!!!! Paid over $11K for this HORRIBLE move and they WONT CALL BACK to even attempt to repair or make good. Reporting to Better Business Bureau, 7 News on Your Side, and securing Lawyer now to take action. Part 1: 4 Stars JK is actually packing my apt as I type this & they seem efficient, professional, and cautious in handling my worldly goods. They guy who did our estimate came across as someone I could trust with my Le Creuset enabled pots and All-Clad, my most precious item. And he was super flexible with some of the quirks regarding our move. And the movers arrived EARLY! Like, yes. The major fail so far is my oversight in buying amenities for the movers. It's only polite, I think, that they guys doing the heavy lifting have access to Gatorade, at least. My bad, y'all. This will be my second long distance move with JK. They were pretty good last time and appear to be on track to exceed expectations again. Part 2: 2ish Stars 85% of my stuff arrived on time (at the end of the delivery window) and in good condition. I only say 85% because a beloved floor lamp is still missing, a few furniture pieces arrived damaged, and I ended up with a few things that were not mine. We had a terrible experience with another long distance moving company 5/1-5/2/22. The company tried to charge an additional $10,500 (well over double) as they said the move was underestimated by 50% and due to having more than 7 steps to go to the 2nd floor and basement (even though they knew we had 9'ceilings). We threw those movers out and lost $2,400. We then scrambled to find movers. From the first conversation with JK moving, they were extremely professional. They have you take videos of each of your rooms to provide an estimate. Due to our prior experience, we asked them to increase the estimate. They assured us that we would pay by actual weight. They raised the estimate by 3,000 lbs. They were even able to start the move on 5/6 just 2 days from when we called them! When they arrived, right on time, they were extremely friendly and professional. They inventoried our items, protected our home and started prepping our items. We explained our worries due to our previous experience. They made us feel extremely comfortable and made us feel comfortable having our entire home get loaded up to go to Florida. Our items were delivered within the delivery window we were given, with another fantastic crew. Again, they protected our home, took great care with our items and were professional in every way. Our furniture such as our beds and dining table were put together. The company reached out at the start of the delivery to ensure their team arrived on time and everything was going well. While our items were getting unloaded, the recycling truck arrived, and the crew even brought our neighbors cans to the recycling truck since the moving truck was in front of them. The actual price was almost exactly what we were initially quoted, which was fantastic! If you are searching for movers, don't look any further, call JK Moving today! We wish we found them first. Went onto the website to request a quote... in my experience, quotes are emailed and then maybe there's a follow up phone call if there are questions. My experience with this company is that I never received a quote and instead have been receiving numerous phone calls from an automated machine every day this week. When a real person called I told them to stop calling me and they are STILL spamming me with automated calls. It should not be this difficult to receive basic information when asking for a basic hourly service that doesn't require any travel off the property. Wound up going with a moving company that was easier to get pricing from. read more

I wish that I had looked at the yelp reviews before hired JK Moving. After hiring them for eight moves, there will not be a ninth move with JK Moving. My move with them last month was a disaster, and after eleven days, I am still waiting for Tim's return call that was so forcefully and authoritatively promised. Originally, I picked JK because it was started by a guy from my high school. Not knowing anything about movers except a bunch of horror stories, I figured at least I had a personal connection to this guy, and the five moves with JK were well done. Unfortunately, the last three moves leave a lot to be desired and leave me wishing Yelp had a zero star option. The last three moving experiences with JK had lots of problems in common. So, I assume that problems are what is to be expected from this company now. For example, I talked with multiple people multiple times (4-5) before each move, but each time I talked to someone, I had to correct details that were given each call but either omitted from being noted or were noted incorrectly. Key among these details that seemed to be too much for them to take down in-spite of me repeating them several times, we details like: "yes, I will need help with packing" and "I live in and/or am moving to a building the has timed elevator and loading dock reservations" - in other words I am asking you for when you can commit to when you will arrive and telling you there is a limited amount of time to get things on or off the truck. Well, that essential information escaped them each telephone conversation, as well as on move day. I understand that something getting damaged in a move is almost impossible to avoid. However, if you call me in the middle of move day, I tell you there are problems, and you promise that someone will call me the next day to follow up; I expect a call the next day and not no follow up call from you ever. Finally, if you exceed the amount of your estimate by almost double, that is a big problem. Especially, when you promise to get back to me and YOU PROMISE a specific time by which you will contact me. In short, save yourself the grief. Do not hire JK Moving! You need a five star moving company. Not a one, two, or three star company. Plus, you do not need any thousand dollar plus surprises on the price. read more

Their communication was spot on, and while JK is a little more expensive than some of the other estimates that we got for the move, they were well worth it. Everything arrived on time and in tact. I did not hesitate to call JK moving because of a past positive experience. However, my recent move did not fare so well. Note to the wise: JK moving expects that all damages be reported within ten days. I am not sure who can completely unpack or order their home in ten days post a large move. I had furniture damaged, broken collectibles, furniture and boxes left in the garage without being appropriately placed in their destinations, and heavy boxes placed on top of fragile boxes. I am a perfectionist in the care of my things. All boxes were marked with a destination number, all fragile boxes were marked on every side with arrows pointing up, and a courtesy "heavy" was appropriately marked. Destination signs were also placed in the house. I asked JK moving to extend a discount to which they replied that I had ten days to report the damage so no discount or accommodation to repair my items was offered. I am not sure how a move can be unpacked and ordered in ten days! Given I had a history with using JK Moving, a GoodWill gesture would have restored my faith. Buyer beware, make sure you get those boxes unpacked, damage reported in ten days, or JK moving based on my experience, will just look the other way. I should have called Two Guys and a Truck. I guess you can use JK Moving if you expect that nothing will go wrong. Not bitter, just honest. read more

My family and I moved from California to Texas, first the driver said he didn't have enough room for our stuff so we had to leave a lot of things behind. They also broke things and never told us until we got to Texas. Second they arrived at our home before we arrived (had family there ) they argued about taking things upstairs to leaving things in the garage. Their driver said he wasn't felling good so he stayed in the truck, so Supervision. He left the people to unload the truck who came in in brand new cars BMW ,MERCEDES and did not speak much english. Third, we got home and stated to unpack the next day. We were missing a lot of things. We called the office to tell them and they said what number on the check list. We said what check list??? We were missing the drawers to our big jewelry box. Had all of my expensive jewelry and sentimental value jewelry in it. We called them with everything they asked for and they denied us on all of the missing and broken items. We talked to them again and was told they would take it to the supervisor but never heard back from them. We paid a lot of money to them but they did not earn any of it. read more

My small family and I had a good experience for our move from Washington DC to Houston in 2016. The packing team was efficient and everything got delivered on time but some small decorative items broke. We appreciated that the quote (although more expensive than others), was straight forward and that we didn't end up paying extra (vs. some of our co-worker who used a different service for the same interstate move and had to pay over 1,000 extra). They were quick and efficient yet careful with our things, and very kind. We received our items to our new place in Virginia on the first day of our delivery window. We just had our delivery yesterday, and our results were similar to Roger's. I should have known that the push to have me sign off on the delivery before it even started was a sign of things to come. Hint: do not sign anything until after the delivery! My mother, who recently had a knee surgery, hired these people to move her furniture from Virginia to Georgia in order to be close to me for family reasons. The day of the delivery started off well. The movers arrived on time, and they were pleasant. About half way in, suddenly an issue arose: the truck weight was more than what they estimated. Since I was not authorized to pay for more, we were told that they would have to stop the delivery until they received payment. Our furniture was literally held hostage for more money in an act that felt more like extortion than a legitimate business activity. Frankly, it caused me to question the veracity of the business, and I still wonder what algorithms are used to figure the totals up, especially since another delivery was on the truck along with ours. They also used differently colored stickers so keeping track of the inventory was nigh on impossible. This honestly was a security nightmare, especially because they even refused to lock the doors with numbered seals. At any point during the delivery, items could have been removed from the truck. If it were me, I would have insisted that security be a priority, but since other family members chose this company, I had to accept it. Again, I can not reiterate this enough: dont sign anything until you receive delivery in full! Im still infuriated that they strong armed more money out of my mother, who put her faith in these people being legitimate! Shame on them! **Edited to respond to the owner: I am not interested in a form letter response to this issue. Your company was unprofessional when it came to this delivery, and people need to be forewarned about the aggressively bellicose tactics your company is using. If you care about your company, you will work to change the ethic of your workers. That change needs to be a top down approach, starting with you! JK moving was recommended by Veterans United who I was using to to purchase our home in Missouri. We were moving from Oregon to Missouri and I took pictures of the heavy item for JK. Then I was told that New World would be the company doing the loading and transport to Missouri. I received a video call from them where we identified the items we would be shipping. In both cases I was quoted the min of 5K pounds but was told that the actual weight would be calculated once the truck was loaded. They gave me a range of dates that the truck would be arriving in Missouri and I told them I could not be there in that amount if time as we were pulling a 30' travel trailer and needed more time. They gave me a quote for storage of $4,000 which brought the total to a little over $13,000.00 All along the trip I keep calling and emailing Irisa looking for the final bill so I could pay it but keep being told "we are waiting on the weights from the driver." The day before the shipment was to be delivered, I received a call from Irisa informing me that the cost was DOUBLE and I had to pay over $26,000 or my shipment would not be delivered. I asked why so much and was told the weight came in at over 10,000# double what was estimated!!! She said they had called for a re-weight after the truck was unloaded. I had no choice but to pony up and additional $13,000 which I had not budgeted for When the new weight came in it was just over 8,000# and she said they would arrange a refund of the difference. When I asked why there was such a difference she told me that the truck that made the pick up send the incorrect weight sheet to them........how does this happen? I would have insisted that the drive do another weight if the slip showed double what was quoted!!!! I feel that they "low balled" the quote to get the job. If you use them, ask a lot of questions and be aware that you are going to have to pay a lot more before the truck delivers your shipment.......very disappointing to say the least read more

I knew JK movers from thirty years ago when they were a small family business, when I first moved to Northern Virginia and since then they got very big, moving out of state in late February this year I used them for my move, believing they were good professional outfit. I spoke with Brandi who was very friendly and gave me a quote that was in my budget. I sent all my photos of items to be moved as requested and after adding a couple pieces more she reassured me that it would be a minimal amount more and not to worry. When the movers came they were Professional and laid down floor coverings but they forgot some moving boxes and charged me extra to go back and get them. They also reevaluated my items and charged me $1,500 more after making a call to their office. I had no other option to accept since my move was that day. The day they arrived to my new townhouse to move my stuff in with brand new white carpets, they had no floor coverings to lay down on my new carpet and made excuses for why they didn't have to wear booties either, so they of course did invariably dirty my new carpets! When I unpacked I saw they had packed fine China with the heaviest pot in the kitchen and therefore broke my china. I had several items broken. I also ended being charged 50% more for my move because of the weight ,which they don't tell you till all your stuff is moved out. I put in a claim for the damages to my carpet and broken items. They refused my claim and didn't pay me for any of the damages to my property. I don't recommend anyone using this moving company. They don't care about their customers nor their reputation. read more

We received quotes from three different companies for our move from MD to NM as we'd heard horror stories about movers, particularly across country. The one that stood out to us was JK Moving Services. Glad we made that choice. Phil P. came to us to do an efficient, detailed, in-person assessment, and explained every step, then John M. called and let us know the estimate, and exactly how to reach him or anyone we needed before, during and after the move. John M. checked in every step of the way. We immediately received a call from the person actually driving our belongings across the country, Ben G. What a pleasure! This man was really on top of every physical aspect of our move, (including an extra stop, a narrow street with no parking, and other logistical issues),arrived early and ready to go, and with a terrific crew. Ben and Rick and three other gentlemen, all of whom worked their tails off from 7:30 AM until 4:30 PM, as pleasant, and willing to help as anyone would want. We drove our own cars out and, as promised on the exact date, Ben G. appeared, also early and ready to go, with another great local crew, Phil, and two other gentlemen. They also worked from 7:30AM until 2:30 PM, after which, and after a very long day, Ben G. Stayed to help us unpack the entire kitchen. A true professional from start to finish. We have used JK moving twice. This week a team came to pack our house and move our belongings to storage at the JK warehouse. The estimator, over estimated the cost of the project by several thousand dollars.  We were never asked about crates for valuable objects, we needed 3 crates for oil paintings. The estimator ordered 9 crates, we were charged for 6 crates we never used. When I spoke with the moving coordinator, I was informed that was my problem. The moving coordinator wasn't able to gave us the incorrect price after packing. Twenty four hours after the pack and move was complete the moving coordinator called twice to say we were undercharged and need to pay more. read more

We selected JK Moving for our move after one of our friends used them for their recent move. We arranged to pack on our own and have JK Moving load everything in one day, and signed the contract with JK Moving. Since we were moving across states and were on a tight timeline because we were closing on a house, we made plans and booked lodging to drive up the same day after the loading had been completed. On the scheduled loading day, the truck that pulled up to our house was not a JK Moving truck, but a truck from International Van Lines. In my surprise, I asked the truck driver if he was here from JK Moving, and he said that the name didn't ring a bell. This left me wondering if another moving company decided to send a truck to our house without confirmation, and so I quickly called JK Moving to see if I could clear up the confusion. JK Moving confirmed that they had subcontracted to International Van Lines and tried to assure me that our move was in good hands. This was not a welcome surprise in the midst of a stressful move, and I would have expected the project coordinator to let me know if they were planning on subcontracting movers. At the very least, I would have expected to be told which moving company to expect to show up at my door! I returned to talk to the lead mover, and he mentioned that they would be loading the truck over a period of two days, which was different from the one day I had arranged with JK Moving. I responded by saying that our arrangement with JK Moving was that the loading would happen in one day, and the lead mover showed me his paperwork saying that the loading would take place over two days. His paperwork also showed that the movers would do the packing even though it was explicitly stated in the contract with JK Moving that we would do the packing. The lead mover seemed to be surprised and mentioned that even though we had already packed, loading in one day would not be possible because they did not have enough people to load. This was another very unwelcome surprise since we had already planned our travel and lodging based on the plan we agreed upon with JK Moving, which was apparently not communicated to this new moving company that showed up at our doorstep. We had no real choice but to change our travel plans and make some last-minute re-bookings as we were frustratedly trying to make sense of the situation. I communicated the situation to the JK Moving project coordinator, who asked me if the new arrangement would be ok. I responded saying that the situation was absolutely not ok and that we had to change many of our plans. It seems like my response fell on deaf ears because there was no acknowledgement of the changes we made to make things work out. At this point, we felt stuck and discouraged; the moving company was already moving our belongings onto their truck and JK Moving was not taking accountability for the situation. What could we do since we were on a tight timeline? We had no choice but to go along with the new plan because no one else seemed to budge or care. The loading was completed over two days, and we breathed a sigh of relief as the truck drove off since we hoped that to be the end of our JK Moving woes. The unloading process went a bit smoother, though our original moving coordinator seemed to change because I was contacted by another person out of the blue about the unloading scheduling. The whole coordination process behind the scenes felt extremely haphazard. On top of that, we're still discovering things that were broken as we continue unpacking. In the end, it seems like no one suffered repercussions but us. JK Moving received their money, and International Van Lines probably received their dues. Meanwhile, our move was delayed, some of our items were damaged (including a scratch on our upright piano), and no one followed up with us on the chaotic change of plans that left us scrambling to reschedule logistics around our move. We're left with no choice but to strongly recommend against using JK Moving for moving needs. If you are considering JK Moving, I'd recommend explicitly ask about subcontracting, concrete moving dates, and possibly negotiating compensation for any uncommunicated change of plans on their side. However, I think that these points are so fundamental that if you have to discuss these terms, you may as well look for another moving company. read more

I entrusted JKMoving to move my personal belongs over a thousand miles. I entrusted them to pack my items with care. They gave the illusion that they in fact were handling my belongs with care but were not. I entrusted JKMoving to deliver all my belongs. They did not. Not only did they break/bust up/lose some of my belongs, but they also tried to hide the fact. There were items that "disappeared" cannot be searched for and/or located until a claim has been submitted. When and why have they "disappeared"? The claim is being submitted, but after two months the items are gone forever. JKMoving has yet to assist me in locating them and does not want to assist me. These items were irreplaceable. Value hard to determine, gone forever. Thanks to JKMoving' s irresponsible personnel and lack of professionalism in their customer care department, just a loss for words on how they treated me, a paying customer. Never again. read more

From the initial call to the post move call and email, JK Moving Services was professional, knowledgeable, responsive and friendly. Using an online app and the camera on my phone, they were able to inventory the items that I wanted to move and estimated the weight. They charge based on weight. The moving crew was fast, protected my old home and new home and went above & beyond to make the move smooth. They were flexible and were able to meet all of my needs. I recently decided to make a long move up the east coast to RI from FL. After making several inquiries I found that JK Moving services had very good reviews regarding the care they took in transporting peoples things. I decided that would be best for my situation, as I have many electronics and art that needed to be handled carefully. We made a quote by doing an online walkthrough of my home where they got an idea of what I had and how much it may weigh. Their prices are determined by their forecasted weight of your things. My original quote was close to 14k but after loading my things on the truck and checking them at the weigh station I was informed that the forecasted weight was higher than the actual weight I had which ended up dropping my expected price by about $1500. They do include everything they think you may need in the process. Including a shuttle service if your neighborhood has tight roads. They needed to transfer on the day of delivery to a smaller Uhaul which I heard is where things tend to get broken. Roberto and his crew took great care of all my things and everything arrived in one piece. Moves are stressful and you don't want to be stressed out more by a bad moving company. JK Moving made my moving experience quick, easy, and at a substantially better rate than other long distance movers. I can't thank them enough for making this such a great experience. THEY STOLE OUR ELECTRONICS! I don't know what kind of team they hire but half our electronics, some of which contained priceless memories, were blatantly STOLEN. It is absolutely unacceptable what they've done. Communication is also very awful with this company. Companies need to stop contracting them out for relocation and you should definitely NEVER move with them individually as your things will be stolen from under your nose and I doubt they will be responsive about it. read more
