I went with JLM because if the numerous Yelp reviews. We needed a follow up inspection for asbestos in a home I am purchasing. The inspector,Dustin, was on time, and talked to us in a professional manner. He also was informative about suggestions for sampling and how the testing process works. He also gave us some information about laws surrounding asbestos testing and removal and also have us direction on where to gather more information. The report we received was detailed and included a description of the potential health risks, percentage of asbestos within the samples taken and even provided pictures. They also reported the linear footage of the areas that needed removal. The only negative was that they referred me to an asbestos removal company called Hi Tech. Maybe they have had good work from them in the past but their method was no where near the level of professionalism of JLM. I am giving JLM 5 stars for their work but would like to encourage them to re evaluate their relationship with Hi Tech. You want to refer people to companies that make you look good. I will most likely use JLM for post removal testing! read more

I was so happy with JLM, especially since I'd heard horror stories about mold testing before. JLM empowers you to make an informed decision on the best way to approach a mold situation in your home. Discovering mold anywhere in your home can be like falling down a rabbit hole; there's the mystery of the underlying source, the unknown extent of the problem and damage on the other side of the ceiling or wall, health concerns, and a dozen varied opinions of how it should be handled- even by licensed contractors. The best place to start is with inspection and testing by a certified and reputable environmental inspection company. Reputable is key. You may unknowingly stumble on conflicts of interest from companies that claim to do it all- inspection, testing, remediation, and even repair. Some mold inspection companies that you may think are "independent," are actually operating under the same ownership that also owns "separate" remediation, restoration, and repair companies using different company names. There are no laws or regulations governing these conflicts of interest, only best practices, so the burden of due diligence falls on the consumer. Before contacting JLM, I already had mold inspection and testing done by another inspection company. I had discovered the owner/technician at the other company hid the fact that he also owned the mold remediation/restoration company and the repair (construction) company that he "referred" me to and apparently directly provided estimates for. The result was an inspection that was anything but thorough, air quality and third party mold sample lab reports with only a basic interpretation of results, a mold inspection report that was only a half page long, and estimates on remediation and repairs were provided instead of an objective scope of work. A friend who used JLM a few months prior showed me her mold inspection report from JLM, and I felt taken seeing how thorough and detailed JLM's inspections and reports were in contrast to what I received from the other company! It became evident to see how a few bad apples can cast a shadow over the whole industry and fuel the cynicism and suspicions on the other end of the spectrum that mold remediation is one big, over-hyped racket. I called JLM to try to make sense of the mess that the first company left me with, and to perform the necessary lead and asbestos testing (which all mold remediation companies require for homes built before 1978) since I no longer could trust the first company. This is the second rabbit hole you may fall down when having mold abated in an older home- lead and asbestos. Steve and Jon at JLM answered all my questions in detail and explained best practices in context. JLM is honest, reputable, professional, and provides extremely detailed and thorough reports, and there is absolutely no conflicts of interest here.
